The Good: The Cat and Bones dynamic is super sexy. They're very close, but at the same time, they're starting all over again after having been apart for so long. They're still learning about each other and what has transpired in their time apart. Some decent revelations here, mostly unexpected. The mystery didn't feel like a traditional mystery in that we were searching for answers as much as we were seeing how the characters were dealing with the problem. We were waiting to see how everything turned out for them.
The Bad: I had to keep reminding myself that this wasn't the first book in the series and that I had actually read the previous book. While Cat was a familiar character, her situation was much different that the previous book. The world building has been established, but there was a huge amount of government job specific building that really made it feel like we were starting over. Normally, that would be fine, but being only the second book in the series, I would have wanted to get more character centric progress as opposed to having to rework a lot of what we had experienced in the first book.

caution! spoilers ahead!
in my opinion, compared to the first book in Cat's advendures, this one was less fast-paced. less bloody.
make no mistake! i love Cat and Bones.
here, we got to see more how Cat is the "act first think latter" kind of person. although being a tough, ass kicking, utterly awesome heroine that quality of her gets her in a lot of trouble. luckily, we got Bones to the rescue.
yet, seriousely, sometimes it's annoying. being so blind with the want for revenge that you dig your own grave ain't good. at. all.
also, the way she's so dense at times- you're half a vampire! for god's sake! do you really believe you'd get old like a normal human being? and die in a normal age for human? (well, being killed is always a possibility, of course. specifically when you look for trouble).
and that "i am your uncle?" thing, why couldn't she realize it without Bones writing it down to her, feeding her with the expelnation. without even the bit suspecting!
oh, well, i guess we need to know that we need bones- after all, a woman as strong as Cat won't do with a man who isn't better then she. otherwise, she'll get bored.
as for the whole episode dedicated to sex, thank you Frost! we needed a bit of hot action after Cat played in hot and cold. but there were a few things that caught me completely by suprise. also, such hot steamy sex, sometimes, is better in little doses. though, that scene is surley unforggetable- the biting, so sexy.
the book has it faults, but it's so addictive that i like it. thank you Frost for creating Bones, and for creating Cat. and for making me laugh so hard!
what are you waiting for? hurry! go read it! ;)

After leaving Bones behind to keep him safe, Cat has made a career out of hunting bad vampires with the special branch of the FBI. She's in charge and has helped to create the tight security facility they work out of.
Starting over without Bones has been very hard for her but Cats focused all her hurt/anger on her victims.
She's met friends along the way, including the men under her command, and Denise. Denise knows the real Cat so it's refreshing for her to not have to hid anymore and having a feminine friend.
There's been more gruesome murders and dismemberments back in Ohio that sends Cat right back to her old hometown. Quite literally, it's been calling to Cat.
When Denise has a quickie wedding, Cat finds herself walking down the aisle with a familiar face standing before her....
It's taken Bones almost 5 years, but he's finally found Cat and isn't letting her go, no matter what he has to do to keep her.
Bones' sire Ian is still in the picture and wanting to keep Cat for himself. It becomes vampire politics to see who gets to keep her.
I really enjoyed book 2 of the Night Huntress series. Cat and Bones are entertaining as ever and both sexier than ever. They have some seriously intense sex that makes you secretly wish vampire weren't only real, but these special vampires with their special powers.
Cat is such a funny and sassy woman. No doubt she would be a damn funny person to meet if she were real.
I do have some issues regarding the way she talks to her mom. Though I can totally understand, being that I can't believe some of the things that comes out of her mom's mouth either. But sometimes I just felt like it was too much. Instead of saying something like 'enough, Mom' she chooses 'stuff it, Mom'. But, again, her Mom is very mean about stuff she says too

Half-vampire Cat Crawfield is now a Special Agent working for a secret and unique government task force to rid the world of the undead/vampires! *** When I finished the first book in the Night Huntress series HALFWAY TO THE GRAVE, I was quite upset that Cat had left Bones high and dry after having more or less been blackmailed to do so so. Although after reading the summary of Book 2 - ONE FOOT IN THE GRAVE - and that Bones would be back again, I was absolutely thrilled. Now because I listened to this book as an audio, and because Tavia Gilbert did his voice-over so perfectly the first time. I knew I would get just as much pleasure from another book performed by Tavia if for no other reason, than to just hear Bones’ wonderful accent and extremely humorous witticisms which left a big smile on my face practically throughout the entire book.
Just as in the first book the combination of Cat’s cockiness (as well as her inner musings) coupled with Bones’ smart aleck comments and witticisms which were at times, just plain laugh-out-loud funny along with Tavia’s performance one is able to experience the best of both writing and delivery! Naturally, the author’s storyline and plotting were superb with nods to folks that were introduced in the first book and brought back, and of course meeting all the new characters adding to the enjoyment of meeting new and endearing characters while hoping we get to see them again in future books.
Not all fun, there are some serious escapades - where Bones saves Cat from getting her head blown off and other wonderful examples of high action and fighting as well as some very hot and sensual episodes that will leave the reader/listener both in thrall and smiling with enjoyment. In other words - there is so much to enjoy in ONE FOOT IN THE GRAVE that one must read to fully appreciate!
Bottom line: Author Frost has found a niche here with her Night Huntress series that should appeal to a broad multitude of fans. I was impressed with her first book; doubly impressed with this book; and can’t wait to continue with this fun and impressive series.

Great addition to the series! I love Cat and Bones and since book #1 left off without a happy ending I was anxious to continue the story and see their story continue. This story certainly lives up to my hopes. :D
Cat is a half vampire and hasn't had an easy life. She's currently working for a Government run organization that hunts killer vamps and protects humans from them. She likes her work but is sad because when she was blackmailed in to this job 4 years before, she was forced to split company with the love of her life, Bones. She hasn't been able to move on and just lives for her work.
Bones is a 200+ years old vampire and in love with Cat. When she disappeared 4 years before he knew that someone had taken advantage and used her weakness of her mother to get to her. He's been searching for Cat for all these years and is determined to find her. Just when he's finally getting close he gets an unexpected windfall that leads him to her in the form of a friend's wedding.
Bones and Cat split up at the end of the last story but both haven't been able to get over each other. In the years since they split, neither has been able to move on to other people. Cat hass determined that it couldn't work with Bones even if she wasn't trapped in her job because she thinks that Bones would decide she has to turn vampire and Cat doesn't want to do that. I think she uses this as a reason to convince herself not to go looking for Bones because she still longs for him. Cat has made a friend in her new life named Denise. Denise does convince Cat to finally go out on a date with a nice man named Noah. Cat tried dating Noah but knows she'll have to split up with him because it just isn't working for her and she can't convince herself to give Noah more than a kiss. When Denise ends up getting married it brings about a couple of coincidences that bring Bones and Cat together. When Cat sees Bones she's freaked, not sure why he's back in her life and wondering if he still wants her or is pissed at her. There's also been trouble with vamps trying to kill her because of bounties on her head so she also worries that Bones might be planning to take her out for the money.
Bones quickly disabuses her of the notions that he intends her harm and tells her that he's there to keep her safe from a couple things that are a risk for her. One is that whoever had a price on her head still does and so there's more killers looking for Cat's head. Also, Ian, Bone's vampire sire, is out to capture Cat. Cat had a run in with Ian previously and unfortunately, when finding out he was Bone's sire, let him go for the life she owed Bones. Ian wasn't happy to escape with his life and since Cat's a rare half-vampire, Ian wants her to "belong" to him for bragging rights and is trying to find her for that reason. Bones has decided to protect Cat and also uses some slightly underhanded methods to discover if Cat still loves him. There's some drama as Cat has to discover the truth about a few things and figure out what to do about Bones. She decides to risk her job and try dating Bones again. They try to start back up slowly but end up in a show down with her mother (who still hates the undead with a passion) the very first evening they decide to restart their relationship. That actually goes relatively well but when her work finds out who she's dating things aren't quite so easy. Their slow start gives way relatively soon and things get hot and heavy between Bones and Cat as they rebuild their relationship and getting even deeper with each other. All the while, they have to deal with her job, hit men, jealous exes, Ian and numerous other issues. There's quite a bit going on but I liked the way the end came out. Things get pretty much settled in the end and Cat and Bones are securely together. It ends in a very nice start to Cat and Bones' HEA.
I love this book and seeing Cat and Bones get back together and work things out. They're such a great couple and I love their chemistry and interactions. I so wish I had a Bones of my own and Cat's a great heroine even if she does make some mistakes. Once again, Frost did a great job with the story lines, making the romance and action story lines good balances for each other and making it all work well together. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series. I'd highly recommend this book. 2 thumbs up! :D
* note - I listened to the audiobook of this and Tavia Gilbert did a great job on the narration.

I don't know about you but I was totally pissed that Cat left Bones at the end of the first book. Cat felt she was protecting Bones by leaving. Now she is kicking ass for the government while leading a team of men who keep the paranormal population in line.
The book takes place four years after Cat left Bones and sold her soul to the U.S. government. While she loves what she does, she just can't get Bones out of her head, and her heart. She even tries dating a veterinarian, which was pitiful to watch. I mean Cat had more balls than this guy.
Bones and Cat reunite at a wedding for both of their human friends. While she has missed him terribly, she forces herself to tell him to get lost, for his own safety. Bones isn't going anywhere and he could give a rat's ass about some piddly human special forces team trying to kill him.
Bones has never stopped searching for Cat and as they spend more time together, Cat realizes how much she loved and missed him and refuses to give him up a second time. Their passion is off the charts in this book. Please pay particular attention to Chapter 32. If you are a fan of the series, you know exactly what I'm talkin' about!
The secondary characters are equally awesome. We are introduced to the captains of Cat's team: Tate, Juan, Dave and Cooper. We also get to meet the vampire who sired Bones as well as his grandsire, a powerful Egyptian vampire. There is also a former lover of Bones' that tries to win his attentions. She is a total bitch but not to worry, Bones only has eyes for Cat.
This book is so exciting! So many things happen and it's hard to keep my lips shut but I'm afraid I've already revealed too much! Read the book! You'll love it!

It's been four years since the events of Halfway to the Grave. Cat, has honed the skills Bones has taught her, working for a secret government agency as the head of a unit that hunts down troublesome undead. Her half-vampire heritage offers an invaluable benefit to the cause. But you don't do what Cat does without making a few enemies. She's now a target as someone has put a hit out on her. Her only hope is Bones, the vampire she left behind. Though he's "dead" he's the only one on this earth to make her feel alive, and those feelings come rushing back. But can she keep them at bay? Not if he has his way.
I am always a little concerned about ships when the characters get together off the bat because I feel they become stale. Even with the insta-love between these two, I thought the first book was exciting and fresh. But this one felt like more of the same. I liked Bones in book 1, but there wasn't a lot of evolution here, so he came off as Gary-Stuish. And Cat, his Mary Sue. Unlike the first go 'round, I didn't find the number of times one was jealous, insecure, or baiting vamps for slaughter to be nearly as amusing. And then Bones practically always had the answers to the problems so I just didn't find him as intriguing and to be honest, his dialogue started to irritate me a bit with the "blokes", "luvs", "sods" etc. He's over 200 so I wish he would have acquired vocabulary with more variety by now.
There was a fair bit of action and definitely some laughs, but Jeaniene Frost doesn't include enough follow through after the build up. I feel like there's this massive world with characters waiting to be explored, but we get less than I want to see in a read. I'm really big on supporting characters, yet I didn't find myself attached to anyone here. Everything just kept working out a little too easily, so nothing was perilous, gripping, or gritty. I felt like it was basically all centered around when these two could get back to shagging.
And speaking of which, of course I can't complete a review without my opinion on chapter 32. It's pretty much the only thing I was asked about or told about, even during Book 1. To be honest, it wasn't much to write home about for me. It wasn't bad (none of her scenes are) but the hype surrounding it made my expectations too high, so an underwhelming result was inevitable. Don't get me wrong, I certainly have my short list favorites in literature, but this is just not one of them. Sorry! *ducks from flying tomatoes*
Overall, it certainly wasn't a bad read, but it just wasn't as good as I was hoping it'd be. After the first book I thought it would practically inhale this one, reading it in no time, but that just wasn't the case. There's still Book 3 which I do plan to read, but that will be the final determinant of whether or not I plan to keep going with this series. Though I like to come to my own conclusions, I've heard that the earlier books are better so I don't know how well that bodes for the rest.

This second book takes place 4 years later. Cat is now the team leader of her special forces group who take down the undead. She has turned cynical and sour over the years but she will do anything for her team. After all these years she still misses Bones and cannot seem to forget about him. However after a turn of events Cat is reunited with Bones and it doesn't take long for their relationship to rekindle. But Cat seems to have a price on her head and Bones is ready to do anything in order to keep Cat safe, which includes joining her team.
The first part of the book is about Cat and her new life. You see how much she has changed but no matter what she still holds onto the past. She is respected by her team of men and she would do anything to make sure they are safe. Then comes Bones who after years of searching for Cat, has finally found her and no matter what refuses to let her go again. So since Cat is so dead set on staying with her men since, let's face it, without her half vampire strength and speed, they would be dead without her, Bone decides to join the special forces group. Once Bones is on board, he and Cat pick up where they left off. There of course are a couple of bumps along the way, like someone putting a bounty on Cat's head, Bones' ex-lovers popping up and a little problem with Cat's vampire father making an appearance.
This one sets the stage for Cat and Bones to work with the team and create a stronger vampire fighting unit. I really enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more of Cat and Bones' story.

I still love the the main characters Cat & Bones and also Cat's team and boss, but I didn't like how two secondary characters, Denise and Randy, suddenly disappeared from the plot after half of the book, and then Randy randomly reappears for a brief second in the second half. What? Why?
Furthermore, I think the plot is too tame. There are of course awesome action-packed scenes but the overall focus of the book is on the romance which is fine but not great in my opinion.
Hopefully, book three is better in those aspects.

I was already in love with this series and Bones after reading Halfway to the Grave. The second book in the Night Huntress line-up did not disappoint. In fact, I think it topped the first one in some ways. This novel has all of the same elements that made the first one awesome only this one is loaded with even more vampire goodness.
Cat and Bones are back with a vengeance in this second installment. After four years apart they're reunited and quickly realize that their feelings for each other are stronger than ever. I was happy that the reunion occurred sooner rather than later. It would have saddened me if I'd had to read half of the book before Bones made an appearance. I would have stuck it out but am relieved that I didn't have to. There are so many terrific lines in this novel that I thought about compiling a list of my favorite quotes. Maybe I'll work on that if I read this book a second time. I don't typically re-read novels but I might make an exception for this series. It's that good!
Miss Crawfield is now a full-blown special agent and she commands her own team. Meet Tate, Juan and Cooper. At first I was hoping that Cat would quit her job and team up with Bones again but later found that these men were a great addition to the story. They're pretty badass for humans but in the world of vampires they're chopped liver. Out of the three, Tate is my favorite. He hates the undead more than anything in the world and constantly has to bend his morals to do his job. He refuses to back down from a fight or a challenge and as a result finds himself walking a very thin line between the living and the dead. I think his sarcastic sense of humor is the only thing that gets him through the day at times.
There are quite a few jaw dropping moments in this book where Bones demonstrates how truly powerful he really is. Made me happy that he's on Cat's side otherwise she'd be in big trouble. Hopefully she doesn't get on his bad side as this series progresses. Despite all of her skills and training I don't think she'd stand a chance against her lover. Bones' sense of humour made me laugh out loud at times. Namely the panties revelation that he made to Cat. If she were a real person, the look on her face during this conversation would have been priceless!
It would be near impossible to write an accurate review of this novel without dedicating at least a paragraph to talk about the sex. What I want to know is where can I get me my very own vampire orgasm machine!? When I finally arrived at Chapter 32 I had pretty high expectations. Regardless of what they were, this chapter blew them out of the water. Unfortunately for me, I read it before work one morning. What a long day that was! I'm now a believer in that it may very well be one of the hottest encounters ever written! Am I exaggerating? You'll have to read this book to find out! No cheating and skipping ahead like I considered doing. The story and the build-up made it all the more enjoyable.
Last but not least, the ending of this book was jam packed with surprises. All of the pieces finally came together and the results left me in awe. Jeaniene Frost is a master storyteller! New tidbits are also introduced to leave the reader wanting more. I'm left wondering what Frost is going to throw at me in At Grave's End. I don't know if she can top this book but I'm definitely going to give her the chance to try. One Foot in the Grave is la crème de la crème of vampire fiction. Oh so good!

*Beware of possible Spoilers*
It's been over four years since Cat left Bones, in what she thought was the only way to keep him safe. She still misses him every day, but knows that things between the two of them would never have worked; at least that's what she tries to tell herself anyway.
She lives for her work killing the bad vampires and tries to fool herself into pretending she's happy. And, it somewhat works until she's in her friend, Denise's, wedding and Bones is a groomsman. All her old feelings come rushing back and old jealousies as well when the bridesmaid he's paired with is all over him. She tries to pretend it doesn't bother her and to ignore the situation. But Bones will not be ignored. He corners her and makes sure that she sees reason.
Eventually, he talks her into giving their relationship another try, but with her stipulation of taking things slow, although she can't force herself to stay celibate with him for long (who can blame her?). They have to face-off with Cat's mom and her boss and co-workers to make them all accept that Bones is in her life, but Cat realizes that she has never been happier now that he's back and their relationship is worth standing up for.
"You called her Kitten? And she let you? She put me in a coma for three days when I called her that! My balls never recovered from her smashing then into my spine!"
"And well she should have," Bones agreed. "She's my Kitten, and no one else's"
Over the years, Bones has been offered several contracts on Cat, which he accepted and then killed the people placing the hit. But there is a new one out there that he can't figure out who is behind, not to mention his own sire, Ian, now wants to own Cat. Bones will do whatever it takes to keep his `kitten' safe, even if it means letting himself be captured by the men that are trained to kill his species.
Jeaniene Frost sucks you right in again in this book, the sequel to Halfway to the Grave. Even the beginning before Bones comes back is interesting enough to keep you reading, but once that sexy vampire makes his appearance, you just don't want to put the book down!
Bones is his usual confident, cocky, sexy self, but with a different hair color. I loved reading his love for Cat and was just surprised it took him over four years to find her, no matter what Don did. I absolutely loved Bones and Cat's mom squaring off after Cat and Bones decided to give their relationship another try.
"You know what your problem is, Justina? You're in desperate need of a good shag."
I downed a gulp of gin to cover the laugh that forced its way out. God, if I'd thought that once, I'd thought it a thousand times!
She let out an outraged huff. Bones ignored it.
"Not that I'm offering you one myself, mind. My days as a whore ended back in the seventeen hundreds."
His little jabs are always humorous and of course I LOVED him standing up for Cat and not letting her mom trash talk her.
"I thought you'd gotten over your whoring when you left him, Catherine, but it seems you only postponed it."
Bones' face turned to stone, and he answered her even before I could snap out an indignant response.
"Don't you ever speak to her that way again." There was pure warning in the whip of his words. "You can call me any name you like and more, but I will not stand by while you slander her out of your own ignorance."
And then of course there is always chapter 32, the hot sex to make vampire Annette jealous as her punishment for fighting with Cat. Fangs and lube anybody? I never thought that would be such a tempting combination before.
"Now I am short on some props, and there isn't nearly enough time in one night to run through all the ways I've fantasized about taking you, but I promise you this..." His voice deepened, "You'll be scandalized in the morning when you can think again."
For the most part I really did love this book, but I could have done without the whole ghoul stuff at the end of the book and my overall rating of this book suffered because of it. To me it kind of ruined the climactic scene with Bones, Cat, & Ian facing off. I would much rather the book have ended there or with a nice romantic ending between Bones and Cat and saved the ghoul stuff for the next book. Either way, I love this series and can't wait to read more!

Read through the first part of this book so fast and you will too. I was just dying to have Bones back and for them to see each other again… after 4 years! Damn. And what a build up. Cat is now leading her own team of military style vampire hunters. I love how she finally has people who can be there for her, respect her, and take down vampires while caring about her well being. The relationship between her and her guys are so sweet!
And then there’s Bones! Can this series get any more awesome? Cat doesn’t just run to him… No, the girl makes him work for it! It was the right mix of sexual tension, flirting, and romance. (OMG, when he licked every curve of that gin bottle with Cat’s blood, thought I would expire on the spot.) Bones knows what he wants and he shows to Cat time and time again that he is the one who can protect her and will do anything he can to have a life with her.
There were a ton of fun things to read about and events happening that will keep you on turning the page (meeting Annette and her interaction with Cat – can you say cat fight-, how Cat & Bones come up with a plan to stop Ian from chasing after Cat, the side story with Cat’s dad, Max, & Don and the ending with Dave is really cool!)
This is a must read before you die!

I think Jeannine has added pretty good character development for Cat. I like the direction she went in. She adds more independence for Cat and has her growing up. She is now a sort of supernatural federal agent, but her personal life is practically non-existent until her old flame comes back into the picture. Following his reappearance it's non stop action, which is good because they're still kind of boring people. It very much reminds me of the Anita Blake series. Cat and Anita have very similar personalities. But Crispins aka Bones feels freshly original.

**Warning: Contains some spoilers**
What I liked about this book? The fact I've been struggling for weeks to really get into a story and this one suckered me right in from the off. I'm not even mad about the fact that we had to wait so long for Bones' reappearance.
Yes, that does sound as though I quite liked Bones in this one. Because whilst he grated on me a little in the first book (mostly his chipper British accent), he was toned down enough in this book for him to not get on my nerves and I ended up quite liking him.
So onto what bugged me about the book:
- I felt as though the beginning was rushed. The whole deal with Noah felt like a fake setup to add something extra (that didn't seem particularly needed) to the endgame-especially the way the beginning of their relationship (their entire relationship, in fact) was skimmed over to get through the story faster. I think it would have worked better for the plot if Noah had just been left out of it all together rather than trying to force that thread in. It just didn't quite work as smoothly as it needed to for me. I mean, even the well placed cat was barely mentioned again after the event.
- I'd have preferred it if Cat hadn't whined about every bit of jealousy she felt over Bones in front of her colleagues. It was a somewhat belittling. I'd have expected better of her.
- I wasn't too keen on the whole ghoul idea for wrapping the book up. It seemed to have no relevance in this story, apart from the fact this is where Dave dies. Is his ghoulness going to be relevant later in the series? Just seems as though it was stuck in the wrong place when I can't see the relevance of it here. Maybe he could have been opened up at the beginning of the next book instead. That would have made a decent opener.
- I wasn't keen on the time transitions (or timeline jumping, if you prefer). Time passed with little showing of what had occurred during the time. I think maybe they could have been handled a bit better. I don't know if this might have been because so much time had passed between the first book and this, and then it felt as though the beginning was being rushed as much as possible to get the reader to the juice. In that case, should the author question if the story was started in the right place? I dunno.
- Tate. I'm sorry, I just didn't find his later actions in the book very believable. He declares his feelings for Cat, but then sleeps with a vampire, a species he HATES, as though in a petty attempt to get back at her or make himself feel better. It just didn't gel for me. And seemed to serve no particular purpose to the book.
Sounds like quite a few cons, I know. However, the fact I really enjoyed this bookdespite those should tell you a lot.
That is all ... I think. )

Four years ago, Cat abandoned her lover Bones, as well as her former life to join a secret branch of the U.S. government that was formed to hunt vampires. She did it thinking it was the only way she'd be able to save Bones from the men that were threatening her.
Now, however, she's facing Bones' sire Ian, as well as a contract on her life, when Bones suddenly reappears in her life. She is overjoyed to see him, but she knows it still won't work. Or will it?
In the second book to the Night Huntress series, we get a lot more Cat and Bones action, more fighting, and some awesome new characters, in Don, Juan, Tate, Denise, and Annette. We also get to see more into the vampire world with glimpses of Ian, Spade, and Mencheres.
I love this book, and honestly, I think it's my favorite of the whole series. It's the only copy I have of the series that's literally falling apart with how many times I've read this.
This book is where we really get to see how Cat and Bones feel about each other, and heh, there's one certain scene where it's really obvious. If you don't know what I'm talking about, pick up the book. You won't regret it, if just for that scene. ;)
We also get to meet what will become some key characters in later books. Don is the head of the governmental operation that Cat is the main "fighter" for. Tate is one of the men who follows her, who also happens to be in love with her, and Juan is another one of the followers, who is obsessed with women (this is not an overstatement. He's really that obsessed). Annette is one of the first vampires Bones ever changed, and Denise is Cat's best friend.
This book picks up in an interesting spot, because when I picked up the book, I thought it would pick up immediately after the last book ended, but it doesn't; it picks up four years later. Which in truth, is a very good thing, since it develops the characters, as well as the scenes more.
All in all, as I said, this is my favorite book of the series. If you haven't read the series, pick up the first book, and be prepared for the magnificent sequel.

I loved this book and Bones was perfect the entire time. The first book was a lot of explanatins from the past and I got bored, but this time was action from the first second and it made things more interesting to me. Cat is more sure of herself, and I think it’s because she needed to grow a little and get some distance from her mother. This new adventure is set four years after the end in Halfway to the Grave, so Cat had some time to adjust in her new vampire hunter life, plus she’s living alone and trying a new relationship. Her life is not perfect, because there’s no Bones, but I liked to see her grow and learn to live on herself.
Cat is now working for the government and I was scared when they first appeared, but now I just hate her boss, especially after discovering all those things he kept from her. Bones demonstrate a lot of sentiment in this book and the end was such a surprise for me. I barely kept from crying. I think Cat and Bones make a cute couple, but needs to learn a little more about vampire rules before making another mistake soon.
A good surprise for me in this book was Cat’s group, her men are loyal and fierce, plus we can really see they adore her, some of them more than that. But Bones made things perfect for me. Can’t wait to start the next book.

Okay, so I am now seriously loving this series. I finished book one yesterday and now I've finished book 2 today in half a day...So yeah, loving it! I can't wait to read book 3. This series is pure entertainment to me. So far, I definitely recommend the series :)
This was a pretty awesome sequel in the Night Huntress series. I didn't know how things would go considering what happened at the end on book 1, but things were pretty good. Cat and Bones are two awesome characters that I love. Especially Bones! That guy continuously has me cracking up throughout the book. Cat too with her sarcasm. That girl is feisty! I almost died when she told her Mom she'd let Bones bite her if she ruin Denise's wedding. That Mom of hers is something else!
The side characters are pretty interesting as well. Juan, Tate, Don and them. Denise, the friend though, I didn't see what was the point in her role. She didn't really do much as a character, but provide the wedding scene. That's about it. Maybe she'll have more of a role in the upcoming books. I don't know though.
Of course the romance in this book was once again scorching. But I like how, so far in the series, the books haven't been filled with just sexual scenes. I mean they're there, but it's not overwhelming like how it is in some books and I like that. And the book was action packed like the last and it was surely a page turner since I finished this in half a day. I couldn't put it down. I am just too intrigued with the characters and humor.
Can't wait to start book 3 to get another glimpse of Bones :) And I'm also looking forward to all the drama and excited from the other characters as well lol

One Foot in the Grave bk. 2 picks up right were Halfway to the Grave bk.1 ends on a cliffhanger. Cat has left Bones and its 5 years later. I must admit I didn't like the first half of the book. Cat is always fighting and killing vampire and she best them all but she is only half Vampire. That didn't make sense to me. I really don't like the way Cat is written. Their is nothing romantic or feminine about her. She is very Macho for a female even a military officer. Bones I love he and the others in the story is what makes this book a 5 star book The last half of the story more than makes up for the first half. We get to see a return of a character we fall in love with in bk1 and that just tipped the book to 5 stars for me. I also, came to believe that Cat loved Bones by the end of the book. Those two also have some very hot sexy love scenes. WOW,HOT HOT HOT!!! I really enjoyed reading One Foot in the Grave and I know you will too. Just read bk.1 first Halfway to the Grave or it won't make a lot of sense!

The second book in the Night Huntress series, One Foot in the Grave, proved to be just as exciting and amazing as the first book! When I started this book I really wasn't sure what would be in store for Cat because the ending of the previous book took such a drastic and unexpected turn, but I was definitely pleasantly surprised. But what is not surprising is that Jeaniene Frost has once again delivered a well-written, addictive, witty, raw and action-packed novel!
In this installment of the series, it's been four years since Cat has seen Bones--having disappeared from his life in order to protect him and her mother. She's now working for a covert branch of government and her job is to take down certain vampires that pose a threat to society. With her own team of soldiers/agents to command, Cat is doing what she loves: delivering justice to the bad guys. She's the "Red Reaper" and she is fierce. But someone has a contract out on her life, and they won't stop until she's dead.
I was eagerly anticipating Cat's reunion with Bones, and when he made his appearance I was pretty darn excited! Their fiery connection was still very present and Bones' determination to not let her go again was strong. As usual, these two make a fantastic team and they worked together effortlessly to track down clues leading to the person that wanted Cat dead. As usual, Bones is very protective of her and proves to her once again that he's the only one for her. Cat's realization about her happiness and love for Bones was very satisfying, especially because she overcame her resentful mother's influence on the matter. But if there were ever two characters that were meant for eachother, it's these two; and I didn't think that their romantic scenes together could any more intense and seductive, but oh boy, was I wrong!
The secondary characters in this book are definitely worth mentioning as well. Some of the vampires that are introduced, whether they were friends or foe, were pretty interesting. I'm eager to learn more about a few of them in particular. I also enjoyed the fact that Cat has several friends in this book, which is something she didn't have before. She has Bones, obviously, but it was nice that she had such camaraderie with the men she worked with, and it doesn't hurt that they're a humorous bunch! Oh, and I'm so glad to have gotten more of Rodney the ghoul! I don't know what it is about him, but I like him a lot.
There is a truckload of stuff going on in this book, to say the least. Setting aside the romantic happenings and struggles that Cat goes through, she also has to contend with some shocking revelations involving her family, as well as some interesting information about the code and laws of vampires. All of this actually ties in with the conclusion of this novel, which was pretty eventful and awe-inspiring! So naturally, I'm pretty excited to delve into the next book and continue on this journey with Cat, Bones, and her awesome friends.

Move over Mommy Dearest, Justina Crawfield may have just stolen your title as the worst mom in the history of the world. Because of her, and her undying hatred for vampires, her daughter Cat has spent the past four years without the love her life. At the end of Halfway to the Grave, a military organization came to Cat and asked her to join their special unit, designed to fight vampires. That, or they would kill her vampire-lover, Bones. Cat would have just run off with Bones, but she knew Justina would never accept him and she would become a target for all of Cat's enemies. So Cat accepted the job and disappeared, leaving Bones with only a goodbye note.
In the past four years, Cat has used her skills as a half-vampire to train a team. And they're as close as family. But now, a new threat is on the scene. He wants Cat dead.. and only Bones can keep her safe. Of course, when they come together again, all the old magic is there, but with years of longing fueling their desires. They make an explosive couple. The sex is even more amazing this time around... My Goodness, Jeaniene Frost, you could make a reader blush.
What's different about the first book in the series, is that now we are fleshing out some great secondary characters which become pivotal to the series: humans like Denise, Tate, Juan, & Don; our ghoul Rodney is back; and we've got vamps like Charles, Annette, & Ian. And let's not forget Cat's parents. Yes, parents with an "s." You already know what I think of Justina; but dad Max is even worse. It's really a wonder that Cat turned out as well as she did.
This was a great book. Most Paranormal Romances have a new couple with each edition, but Cat & Bones are strong enough to keep me glued to the page for as many books as Frost can churn out. This is a fabulous, fun, easy read --and a series I would recommend without reservation. 5 stars.

I was anxious to start this book due to the cliff-hanging and sad ending (in my opinion) of the first book. I began the NH series in London and only brought the first book with me as I wasn't sure I would have time to read or like it as I was just finishing up the Midnight Breed series novels by Lara Adrian. Boy was I pissed at myself for not bringing the second one along. I finished the first book a few days into my two-week trip and had to substitute this second book for the other PNR book I brought along...Dark Hunter #1 by Sherrilyn Kenyon, and let me say this, it was a poor, poor substitute and time filler. Of course I read it and finished it, but I was upset I couldn't have the next three NH series to read until I got back this Saturday, October 30. On Halloween Day I went out to buy the last two of the NH series so I could have them at my disposal when I finished the second one. And on Sunday, that is what I did. I finished the second book of the series and finished the third and fourth two days later. Three books in three days, I guess you could say I enjoy Frost's series.
Anyway, to my review. This second book picks up again with Cat Crawfield, half-vampire, half-human hybrid who is now a Special Agent for the FBI's paranormal division. We learn many exciting new things in this book, get introduced and acclimated with new characters such as Tate, Dave, Cooper, and the re-appearance of supernaturals from Bones' past and present.
This story does not disappoint and was a great follow-up to the first NH novel. I was upset by Cat and Bones' break-up in the first book and was extremely excited to see that remedied in this novel. Call me a sucker, but I enjoy a happy ending. Although the relationship is not easy, nor does it get any easier throughout the series, Cat and Bones are ever strong, fierce, and deeply in love, and that is the reason I believe this series works so well and has so many fans.
This book tells the story (or expands on it) how Bones is connected with Ian and Spade. Frost includes again how the three "men" are connected and there is the introduction of Mencheres, a prominent figure of the vampire community and in the next novels of the NH series.
Again, I enjoyed how kick-ass and fast-paced Frost's writing is. Just when things seem to be dying down, and as much as I'd like to see Bones and Cat get some down-time, the story picks up with another phone call or door knock that has trouble on the other end. If you enjoyed the first of the series, you will enjoy the second. Hook, line, and sink...or bite, whichever you prefer.

This book is sooo freaking amazing!! Why? Why did I wait so long to read this after the first one? There're no words to describe the awesomeness that is this book, but I will try, because that's why I'm writing this!
The book picks up several years after the first one. Cat is now working for the government in the secret department fighting the evil undead. She's no longer that young college girl going out on nights trying to kill a vampire, but now she's this kick-ass agent that leads her own team to kill or capture her targets.
I loved Cat in this one. She's super no-nonsense and knows exactly what she's doing. She's also grown up a lot since the first book. Whereas in the previous one she's lonely and figuring things out, in this one we really saw the connections she's formed with her team members, whom I also loved as well. Seeing Cat hunting vampires and using the things Bones had taught was just so much fun! However, there were some parts that are super grisly which I'd just rather forget about.
When Bones comes back to her life, Cat has to decide if she will try their relationship again or just run away for a second time. I'd forgotten how much I loved Bones. He's a super-hot vampire that can throw cars around and rides a Ducati. And British accents? *drools* Need I say more? And I finally got a chance to read the famous Chapter 32!! I'm going to go read it again after writing this review! Oh man, lucky Cat! I would never get out of bed if Bones was mine!
This book was just full of fast-paced action and laugh out loud humor, not to mention some shocking twists and turns that I never would've expected. Every time I thought I came to a stop point something else happens to make me keep going. Anyway, I cannot rave enough about this book! Just go read it now!

Cat's back. But now it's Special Agent Cat Crawford...
It's been four years since Cat left the love of her life, Bones, sneaking away in the hopes of protecting both his life, and her mother's. Screw her own happiness. It could never work out with Bones anyway, and she'll never be happy without him. So as long as they can't be together, she'll keep him safe. She's now working for a secret department of Homeland Security, dealing with the undead like only she can.
A job Cat's working takes an unexpected twist, and when Bones shows up at her best friend's wedding, well... will she be able to control her attraction to him? Pfft, you know the answer: hell to the no.
Cat has grown a lot in the last four years. She's now a foul-mouthed, gin-swilling, "raging bitch". By her own admission. And boy, is she bitter. She's living for her job: killing the undead. Without Bones, she doesn't really have much joy in her life. Cat drove me nuts in the first Night Huntress book, Halfway to the Grave. She was immature and prejudiced, and while I understood this (and it was an important part of the story), I really appreciate that she's grown into the character she was clearly intended to be. Seeing Cat adjust her outlook on the future of a relationship between her and Bones is very sweet, and watching her finally stand up to her vindictive bitch of a mother is worth gold.
The pace in this book is rocketing--it's non-stop action. Whether it's Cat and Bones flirting, or Cat and Bones kicking ass, Frost keeps it moving along like a freight train. This installment has more action, more excitement, and more *ahem* EVERYTHING than the last.
We also far more vivid worldbuilding than the previous installment. Where as Halfway to the Grave seemed to be lacking some depth (to me), OFITG has a far richer backdrop. Secondary characters are now more than a backup cast, they're rich and multi-faceted. Cat has friends, colleagues, and the added dimension these add to the story and world are invaluable. As much as I don't necessarily like him, Cat's relationship with Tate is interesting, and important, I think, in grounding her.
As with Halfway to the Grave, the book's really a vehicle for the sizzling interaction and relationship between our two heroes. It has some of the hottest scenes in it I've ever read (or seen on TV), and actually had me blushing (chapter 32--you'll know what I mean). What I love about these books though, is that there's a plot, and it's this that drives the books. Yes, it's to develop Cat and Bones' relationship, but this is never at the expense of great storytelling.
All the issues I had with Halfway to the Grave are gone in One Foot in the Grave. Cat's grown up, Bones doesn't push her around as much, and we have our couple on much more equal footing. There are so many laugh at loud parts of this book (Bones vs. Tate, and Bones vs. Justina). The Night Huntress series have filled a Buffy-shaped hole in my heart, and this installment is infinitely better than the last. If you enjoyed Halfway to the Grave, you'll LOVE One Foot in the Grave. Read it. Now.

After serious issues with the ending in the first book, I am happy to say that the author has redeemed herself with this book. I was not happy with the way Cat left in the final chapters of the book before this one, and I was hesitant on reading the rest of the series because of it. I didn't want to get my hopes up again in this book and then the author pull the rug out from under me at the end. Good thing she didn't or I might have screamed!
In this book, we flash forward four years into the future. Cat has been working for Don at the FBI group that is not well known. She is basically doing the same thing she did with Bones, but she is now working with humans as her back up. When Bones shows back up in her life, everything starts to go crazy in Cat's life. She is hurt, elated, scared and angry all at the same time. The feelings are the same with Bones who feels that Cat deserted him instead of trusting him.
With kick ass fight scenes, witty writing and additional shockers to add to the story, this book surpassed my excitement from the last book. The characters have grown and in turn have made relationships more concrete and lasting. Friendships are developed, family is exposed and love scenes that will keep you flushed and hot all night long! (Go Chapter 32! RAWR!)
After reading One Foot in the Grave, it is safe to say I am officially hooked on this series. I am intrigued and in love with the characters that captured my interest from book one and in this one! I still have my favorites, and I still have my least appealing characters, but overall I am sucked into the world of fantasy and romance that this author writes so well!

One Foot in the Grave picks up four years after the events of Halfway to the Grave. Cat Crawfield, half vampire, half human, has been working for an elite government unit, leading her own team and doing her part to eliminate as many rogue vampires as she can. She now has a reputation among the vampire world. She hasn't seen or had any contact with Bones, the vampire bounty hunter she worked with and fell in love with in the first book. And then unexpectedly she suddenly finds herself in the same room with him.
I raved about the first book here, and I loved this one just as much. Cat, still sassy and sarcastic, has grown and matured, having settled into her new life and her job and being genuinely fond of her co-workers. Seeing Bones again brings up all sorts of emotions, feelings she never got over. But she isn't sure if he feels the same or if he hates her now, or maybe he moved on with his (undead) life and never even thought about her.
Now her life has been targeted, and in between dealing with trying to stay alive and find out who has put out the hit on her, she also has to figure out just where she and Bones stand with each other. And since she needs his help, there is no avoiding the issue. Or eventually the sex, and there is one very hot session that takes Cat somewhere she thought she'd never go.
As in the first book, the writing and dialogue is fresh and snappy and amusing. I don't have much else to say, except I loved this book and I can't wait to get the next one in the series.
Oh wait, I do have one more thought: Bones. Ahh, Bones. * sigh * Bones is the hottest, sexiest...words fail me. I love him. I do.

Gah... This was just all kinds of ways good, the question here is why did I leave the delicious and uber sexy Bones sitting on my TBR shelf for so long? I mean I already knew this was going to be great, I figured Cat was going to kick some major butt and I'd heard all kinds of rumours about the infamous chapter 32, So why the wait?? I just don't have an answer. Anyways I loved this second part in the Night Huntress series.
So where to begin? How about awesome, exciting, erotic, hilarious, bloody, sigh-worthy, movie-worthy, clever, romantic, thrilling, passionate, vengeful, intense, emotional, surprising, freakin fantastic and ultimately addictive. One Foot In The Grave gave me everything I could possibly want in a paranormal romance and then some.
Half Vampire Cat Crawfield is now working for an underground section of the government. She and her team help rid the world of those bad rogue Vampires. You know the ones that use humans as hors d'oeuvres. When we begin Cat hasn't seen her beloved Bones in 4 years although she's still using everything he taught her, still quick with a dagger and still slaying readers with witty one-liners.
One of the great parts of this book is the anticipation the reader feels waiting and wondering when and just how they're going to get back together. And I will admit I was surprised at seeing this softer broken side of Cat that still pined for Bones (who wouldn't) Ultimately their reunion is everything you'd hope for; violent, romantic, hilarious and very sexy. (It also left me craving a Gin) Bones is once more unwavering in his love for Cat, luscious to listen to and retains his title as my ultimate literary boyfriend.
With Bones back in her life Cat now has some explaining to do. Like why is he still alive? There are more pressing issues to deal with though and with her team "merely" human the only one able to protect her from the master Vampire who's targeted her for assassination is Bones. All Cat's got to do is train and keep her team alive, deal with that pesky hit man, do full contact Pilates with Bone's ex and kill her father. All without losing Bones again in the process.
So as you've guessed I loved this and although I'm not one for the tough action heroines Cat in a brawl with the bodies piling up is just too awesome and that last battle with the 7ft Grendel is something else. My only complaint here would have to be Cat's mother and her continued arguments with Bones which both annoyed and bored me. However we're given a bunch of fabulous new secondary characters to drool over, who I hope to continue getting to know as the series continues. In particular the newly transformed Dave (although I adored the entire team) and a couple of charming new Vamps. And I promise I won't keep Bones on the shelf for another year. Cheers

Cheers

This book opened with a big surprise for me. It has been four years since the events in the last book! Cat is fulfilling her promise and training her Scooby squad to kill vampires. Cat gets along alright with her teammates, but she's just marking time living in limbo. Her life hasn't been complete since she left Bones.
The beginning was pretty slow for me. I had no real interest in the life she had carved out for herself. I was actually really surprised that she became friends with them. You were forced into this position but you're okay with that now and are fine with being best buddies? What? I can understand making the best of a bad situation, but come on!
So, the beginning slowly covers new details of Cat's life. One of her teammates, Tate, wants her bad and admits it when he's sloppy drunk. Her friend is getting married and Cat's in the wedding party. Cat finally decides it's time to start dating again. They weren't badly written scenes, but they weren't what I was waiting for, so they seemed tedious. But finally Bones came back in the picture and everything seemed right in the world again.
Bones was great in this book. I liked him in the first book, [book:Halfway to the Grave|1421990], but I didn't love him. He was entertaining, but something was lacking. With this book he really won me over. He was so upfront and determined to risk anything to stay with Cat. I loved that he was brutally honest about his sex life while after she left him. I love a man who favors honestly over sparing someone's feelings.
I like Bones with Cat, but I also worry he's getting the short end of the stick. He has been the one who has had to constantly bend to stay with Cat. It's always him taking that extra step to make sure they're still doing well together. I wish she showed half as much commitment to him. He was willing to end a friendship that seemed to mean a lot to him just because that person tried to plant doubts in Cat's mind about her relationship with Bones. He won't let anything get between them, at least on his end.
Once again Cat is a less than sympathetic character to me. She spends more time irritating me than making me root for her. I wish she would just get over herself. She creates drama about everything. I totally get that she's intimidated by the legions Bones has slept with in the past. It's understandable, but the man is how old? He hasn't been a monk the whole time. I loved that Bones wouldn't let her just ignore it and have it fester. He wanted to talk it out and make sure she knew there was no other woman for him now. Which led to an extremely sexy scene. Bones really is carrying their relationship.
We get to meet a lot of other intriguing vampires this time around. I still have a soft spot for Spade, but I am interested in Mencheres now too.
The action in this one seems to have stepped up from the last book. It was exciting and fun, even if Cat did continue to make stupid decisions at times. The big reveal about Justina's history made me have an "ah hah!" moment. I definitely wouldn't put it past her. I'm so excited about the next book that it could only be topped by the news of Tate's much deserved death. Die Tate, die!

She gave him up to save his life.
He swore he'd find her.
She really should have known. Bones always keeps his promises.
It's been four years since Cat left Bones to protect him. She's working with a covert government agency, doing what Bones taught her to do best. Kill. When she's not on duty, she's trying to live a normal life. Her best friend is getting married, she's dating a vet, and she still misses Bones so much she aches with it.
Coming face to face with him at the wedding is a shock, finding out there's a bounty on her head and he intends to track whomever is responsible and kill them ugly isn't. Cat isn't sure what to feel, though, when he tells her he's not letting her get away from him again.
This second installment of the Night Huntress series reminds me of the fourth season of BtVS. I know, I know, I can't stop making the BtVS connections. I'm sorry! Still, you gotta admit, the group Cat works for reads an awful lot like the Initiative, including the vamps in the holding cells and the military-esque tactical teams. Sure, Noah's no Riley Finn (thank hell), and no one shoves a chip into Bones' skull, but the similarities continue.
And again, this reread pointed out some issues I didn't notice the first time around. The whole secret agency thing popped up too abruptly at the end of the last book, and in this one, I was never comfortable with it. Cat is supposed to have this camaraderie with her team, but maybe because of the four year gap in story timeline those relationships felt very manufactured to me. Cat's got a new BFF we've never met, Denise, and she's marrying a guy we don't know, then there's the lovesick Tate (yeah, there's a surprise), the horndog Juan, and the reticent Cooper. They all just sort of popped up, weren't really fleshed out, just moved into position as serious secondary characters. It didn't work for me.
It wasn't until Bones was back in the picture that this story started to gel for me at all, but when he was, it was lovely. Cat's matured as a character (thankfully), and there was some genuinely refreshing moments of honesty between Cat and Bones that reminded me just how much I prefer romances where characters have the stones to be open and communicative with each other. I love them as a couple, I really do.
The external conflict in the storyline is more personal in this one, with Cat's father stirring up trouble and Bones' sire working his own agenda. Despite the fact that I don't like the secret agency bull, I liked those threads very much. There were several nice plot twists and a few real shockers. Oh, and of course, Cat's mother - dependable as ever as the bigoted be-otch from hell. That woman is crazy, I swear.
I'd forgotten this is the book where we first meet Mencheres, a favorite character of mine...though perhaps not as favored as Vlad, who shows up in the next book, I think, and Spade is back in a small cameo roll here. Love him. And I have to say, one of my favorite scenes of the whole series is in this book. I tittered and snickered just as hard this time around when Cat and Annette have there not-so-little fracas.
QUOTE:
"I am going to knock the slut out of you, Annette," I gritted between clenched teeth, "And that should take some doing, you uppity English tramp!"
I can't begin to express with suitable emphasis just how much fun I had with that scene.
Like the first reread, my enthusiasm for this book was slightly dimmed from the first go. I didn't like it at all pre-Bones, and after he was back, I still had some issues with Cat and with the story. And the surprise development at the end was a combination of frustration at Cat's stupidity and pleasure at the outcome. All in all, Cat is annoying me a lot more on the rereads than she did originally, though I liked her more in this book than in the previous one. And of course, there's Bones...back with Cat and looking, acting, and being fiiiiiiiine. Yum.

Despite the fact that its been a year and many books since Halfway to the Grave, I found One Foot in the Grave easy to pick up and get into. It takes place four years after the first book ends. Cat and her team of human helpers track a master vampire and Cat discovers that this vampire has connections to her former lover, Bones. Cat still loves Bones, but believes that they can never be together for a variety of reasons. Still, her loyalty to him presents a conflict because her job is essentially to wipe out as many vampires as possible.
The world building in these books is so simple, and I mean that in the best way possible. The vampires are presented in a way that's familiar to fans of urban fantasy--they're old and slick and slightly amoral, they have select powers as well as weaknesses, and there's a hierarchical system of government. That's it. Nobody has incomprehensible, complicated powers. They don't have wings. There are ghouls and ghosts, and a hint of a few other things. But no long list of creatures. No glossary or list of vocab words to learn. For me, this is quite refreshing.
Though she's lost most of the naivety she showed in the first book, Cat is still a highly conflicted character. Her duel nature and abilities make her lonely. She doesn't go through a dramatic development in this book, but rather makes a few adjustments to her worldview. Mainly this involves her deciding whether to attempt to manage a relationship with Bones, and how to manage her team of human hunters. I didn't mind the very linear and simplistic character arc, because I felt that the big development had already taken place in the first book.
I'm a fan of Bones. He's intriguing and sexy, and has a lot of interesting history to delve into. I was happy to see him front and center in this story. And oh my, the relationship between Cat and Bones gets STEAMY. I liked the secondary characters as well: Tate, Juan, etc. It made me smile to see Cat acting as their leader. The friendships were oddly heartwarming. I'm hoping to see each of them fleshed out more later in the series.
The plot doesn't flow very smoothly. At times it seems like a series of loosely related events, some of which connect and make sense in the end and some of which were pretty unnecessary. There's a subplot where Cat dates a human named Noah that pretty much goes nowhere. She doesn't feel much for him beyond not hating his company, and their interactions are weak and limited. He could have been removed from the story entirely without any real effect. I thought this was a wasted opportunity, since actively dating a human guy might have showed an entirely different "human" side of Cat. There were a few other half baked little subplots that I think may or may not be addressed in future books. The bottom line is, the story lacked somewhat when it comes to focus.
I think if your in the mood for a vampire story, the Night Huntress series is a pretty good bet. Interesting characters, lots of action, and plenty of romance. 3.5 stars.

This is the second book in the Night Huntress series by Frost, the sixth book (One Grave at a Time: A Night Huntress Novel) is due out Sept 2011. This book was just as good, if not better than, the first book in this series. Cat and Bones are fantastic together and it is wonderful to see Cat as a power in her own right. I listened to this book on audio book and the audio book is really well done. In fact this is one of those books I would recommend listening too; the narrator gets Bones' voice spot on and does an excellent job with Cat too.
This book starts 4 years after the first book ended. Cat is working for a special vampire hunting division of the FBI. She has her own team of human vampire hunters under her command. Cat is known only by the nickname the Red Reaper in vampire circles. Now someone has found out her identity and is out to kill her. Who will help her figure out who is out to get her? Well after all these long years of separation Bones may be just the vampire Cat needs to hunt down the person trying to assassinate her.
Cat and Bones were awesome together in the first book, but they are about ten times more awesome in this book. The reunion of Cat and Bones was absolutely outstanding and just took my breath away. Both of them are funny, sincere, and absolutely engrossing as characters. It was fun to see Cat hold her own in fights and to watch her finally admit how much she cares about Bones. Bones is absolutely everything you could want in a male lead and them some; he is funny, sincere, witty and just absolutely wonderful.
Cat finally has some friends in this book and it was great to see her hanging out with her girlfriend and joking around with her FBI team. It was nice to see she had a great support group and that her whole life wasn't hinged on her relationship with Bones. Cat seems to be finally gaining some balance in her life and her relationship with Bones is so loving that it is fun and heartwarming to read about. There are also a couple very steamy scenes between Cat and Bones that are exceedingly well written, very creative, and very...well...steamy.
It's not all about Cat and Bones though; we meet some great new characters. The plot is well done and I love how parts of the story from the first book are tied into this book as well. The action scenes are really well done and there are plenty of them. Things are set up nicely for the next book,At Grave's End, and I can't wait to read that one too.
Overall a absolutely stellar addition to this series. Cat and Bones make this series fabulous; the are so funny, witty, caring, and just fantastic as a couple. Not only are there wonderful, creative steam scenes between them throughout; they honestly seem to really care about each other. In addition to that the book is very well written, has an excellent and engaging plot, spectacular action scenes, and wonderful new characters. Really there isn't anything here that I don't like. Fans of the Anita Blake series, who have been turned off by the turn the later books in the series have taken, should definitely check out this Night Huntress series. I absolutely adore this series.

I love that Cat Crawfield works for the government with a "Special Forces" team, instead of the usual rogue behavior that I read in many Urban Fantasy series. It's interesting that it takes Bones this long to find Cat, and by a seeming coincidence at that. It occurred to me while reading that if Bones really was as good at what he does as he says he is, then he would have found her within the first year easily.
Skipping ahead to the best part about this series, in my personal opinion, is the sexual chemistry between Cat and Bones. I confess, my curiosity about chapter 32 of this book, after reading a book review that made vague hints about it, is what propelled me to start this series. I actually read that chapter first once I got my hands on this book to satisfy my curiosity, and words can not describe how hot this chapter is! So often, I find that sex scenes in novels abuse cliches or do not use the details adequately for my personal tastes, but this chapter throws conventional decorum out the window without disgusting me or making me too uncomfortable to read. Plus, the more fantastical aspects of the two characters made for some unique and handy details that Jeaniene Frost used quite well to create such heat between Cat and Bones. Yes, I read that chapter several more times before I turned the book back into the library.
Cat Crawfield has really grown into a character of strength and determination from the first book, Halfway to the Grave (Night Huntress, Book 1). She knows how to use her abilities to their maximum potential and her self-confidence is strong enough to stand up to even her mother. No longer is she like a pupil to Bones' instruction, but an equal to him in every way that matters. Bones is just as cocky and alluring as he ever was - I wouldn't change a thing about him. It is obvious that he has more than a few secrets up his sleeve, but I don't mind the wait.
I find it intriguing how Cat can alter perceptions and prejudices of the people around her as easily as she does, as is shown with the men on her team. This shows just how much potential she carries to change her world on a larger scale. I can't wait to pick up the next book in the series, At Grave's End (Night Huntress, Book 3).

Jeaniene Frost is one of those rare authors that can do everything. Her characters are real and engaging. Her stories are action-packed with great world-building and suspense. And her character dialogue is some of the wittiest and most laugh-out-loud funny of any I've encountered.
All of these gold standards come together seamlessly once again in One Foot in the Grave, the second in Frost's addictive Night Huntress series. The story picks up four years after the end of Halfway to the Grave. Half-breed vampire hunter Cat Crawfield has left her rogue hunter days behind her in favor of a gig leading a black ops team of FBI agents tracking supernatural threats for the government. Unfortunately, Cat also left behind her Master Vampire boyfriend Bones -- and still can't seem to get over him. Her partner Tate is more than willing to be her partner in other ways, and nice-guy vet, Noah, even promises hope for a normal future.
A normal future becomes a pipe dream for Cat once again, however, when she attracts the attention of a very powerful -- and dangerous -- vampire, as well as legions of paranormal hit men trying to track down the Red Reaper -- Cat's former identity. But when she unexpectedly crosses paths with Bones again, her old life and her new intertwine in surprising new ways.
I love the Night Huntress books -- it's honestly hard not to gush. This book lost none of the steam built in the debut novel, and Cat's new vocation and friends bring new life to the story. The key characters continue to be the showstoppers, though. Bones, in particular, is one of the most drool-worthy characters in fiction. As a former fan "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," I wonder if Ms. Frost had Spike in mind when she conceived the delectable Bones. On every page, he's devilishly funny and as spicy as Tabasco.
To sum it up, it's imperative to have the next book in the series on hand when you finish One Foot in the Grave. Trust me, you won't want to wait for what's waiting At Grave's End.

SYNOPSIS:
Cat Crawfield has been Special Agent Catrina Arthur for four years now. Four long years since she left her beloved Bones to ensure his safety. This Special Agent is a secret weapon the Department of Homeland Security uses to fight vampires. Who better than someone who is half vampire, half human and all feisty fighting machine? That description fits Cat perfectly. No matter how much she misses Bones her job of catching and killing vampires who prey on humans is what keeps her going until she can find the vampire who fathered her. Once she finds him, she's going to kill him.
OPINION:
Cat has done her job so well over the last four years that she has earned the title among vampires as the Red Reaper. Once she starts hunting them, they wind up dead. Even though I enjoyed this second book in the Night Huntress series I thought that it lost some of it's focus. Either that or the plot wasn't quite strong enough to take it all the way through 357 pages. It isn't any kind of spoiler to say that Cat and Bones meet again after the four year interval and the writing of that meeting is absolutely first rate. I think both of these characters are incredibly strong and Jeaniene Frost has continued to strengthen them throughout both books. Now Cat and Bones are working together again but this book is primarily about having them resolve the problems standing in the way of their relationship. How interesting to see a male character as strong as Bones is being honest, gentle and sensitive to Cat's feelings of insecurity regarding his past and her own feelings of inadequacy. I think it is exceedingly funny for me to wade through all the blood and guts and still think of this book as a romance. A lovely, funny, heartwarming coming together for two people who just absolutely belong together.
RECOMMENDATION:
I still highly recommend this book simply because I find so many of the characters to be so engaging. I really like them, problems and all. I hope that the third installment in this series will have a more interesting plot. I don't consider all of the family questions answered in this book to be "plot". For me, that was filling in background and laying the groundwork for the future. This author has an amazing talent for writing and I'm looking forward to reading At Grave's End (Night Huntress, Book 3) very soon and have already placed my pre-order for Destined for an Early Grave (Night Huntress, Book 4) which will be released at the end of July 2009. Believe me, if you enjoy your urban fantasy with more of a fantasy twist than most authors give you, this series will be right up your alley.

I love this series. I was a little thrown by the premise of this installment taking place so long after the first. Four years is a long time and I was worried that it would hinder the romantic progression of Bones coming back into Cat's life. Really, I should have feared not.
Bones is almost instantly back in Cat's life. Not back in her bed from the get-go, but back as a fellow vampire fighter and trainer. Though, the love doesn't follow far behind.
I loved getting to know Cat's team. The men are rough and tough and it was interesting to see them at a point where Cat had a new member. It showed the testaments she needed to make to gain trust from the men, but also assured the reader that she was accepted as their leader as well as a friend. Watching the final team member slowly integrate and trust Cat was almost like watching a relationship develop...Gave you the new relationship feeling that was missing from Cat and Bones. Mostly because Cat and Bones aren't new.
Nope, Cat and Bones come to this book with previous expectations. High Expectations. And this book does deliver. The relationship is strong and still growing. Frost allows her characters to grow without changing who they are at their base. The repartee between the two is still strong as is the heat of their love. A little jealousy is thrown in (on both sides) to add a little spice.
Readers who enjoyed the first book will find the same Cat and Bones, just a little older, and a little stronger. Like fine wine they're only getting better with age.

One Foot in the Grave brings us Part II of Cat & Bones. It packs a hard punch and leaves you craving more. I LOVELOVED this book. Great read- I would recommend it to ANY paranormal fan. I also absolutely love the covers of every book in this series! This is the second installment of the Night Huntress Series. Now, for the goods:
The flow of this book and its plot is so smooth- the dialogue is witty and made me giggle. Frost packed this baby full of action and yummy love scenes. (Caution: These scenes are HOT! haha) There is one love scene that was very unique and EXTRA spicy- haven't read a love scene quite like this before. Yay for new ideas!! I love Jeaniene Frost.
Something else that struck me as peculiar- Frost began this story FOUR YEARS after the ending to "Halfway to the Grave." That is also pretty unique in itself. I can't decide if I like that we lost 4 years of Cat & Bones being delicious or not. Either way- I love 'fresh' ideas, and I don't read many paranormal romance novels that do this. During this 4 year time lapse, Cat has spent all her time as a federal agent, training her own speciailized team of vampire killers. Is anyone else glad they didn't have to read about Cat training a bunch of men? The guys on Cat's team are great and hilarious- a wonderful addition. I hope they're a big part of the series. Now. Bones. Bones. Bones. I love anything and everything about this gorgeous man. Hopefully Cat persuades me more in the third installment that she is better for Bones than I am ;o)
Now...Training and maintaining a special ops group is not all Cat has done in the past 4 years. She has spent her personal time pining and trying to adjust to a life without Bones. She has failed- she still constantly has him at the back of her mind. Finally, she is trying to conquer her feelings for Bones when she begins dating Noah- a vet. While attending her best friend's quickie wedding, she runs into one of the biggest surprises ever. An unexpected guest. She reunites with her old buddy when things heat up almost immediately. (MMMMmmm...) Not to bring the mood down (hehe), but there are then several sudden attempts on Cat's life at this point... And she is forced to trust her boss, her friends, her crew and even Bones once again. Is trust as easy as it sounds? She seems to think so- However those that surround her don't. During the search for the person (or thing?) that put $$$ on Cat's head, facts begin to pile up about her heritage that she hadn't known. Uh oh.
The only thing that I missed in this book was that Cat seemed more innocent and naive in the first book. But, that just means we have had some awesome character development and Cat is growing up and seeing the world for what it is. I don't think there were quite as many funny one liners in this book, but the book still made me laugh here and there. Like I said about the first in this series- I will never trade this book in for another- it is a keeper on my bookshelf. I can't wait to read more!!

I have been hearing about Cat and Bones from practically everyone for practically forever. So when I finally decided to pick up the first book and read it...whoa! I realize now what everyone is talking about!
The second book in the Night Huntress series was just as action packed, fun filled, and hot and steamy as the first. I was a bit worried at first having Cat without Bones, but I figured he would not be able to stay away for long - although four years! What was he thinking? That was definitely long enough. I love that Cat is kickass and does not take crap from anyone. She sees what needs to be done and goes for it. She does not question herself or second guess her decisions. Many times you have heroines hemming and hawing over their decisions for chapter after chapter - boring! Cat is a go-get-em type of girl. I love how Bones just takes charge of everything. He walks into a room and commands it. The tension and chemistry between her and Bones is awesome and adds that little (or a lot) extra oomph to the story. Interesting ending to this one. I am getting ready to start the next in the series to see what happens!

One Foot in the Grave by Jeaniene Frost is the second in the night huntress series. I don't often read one book after another in a series, but for this one, I made an exception. I hated the way the last one ended. So, I HAD to start this one to make up for it.
This book starts 4 years later. Cat has made a new life for herself fighting vampires and leading a group of men she trained. They are very good at their job but something is missing in her life. After "serendipitously" meeting Bones's maker and letting him go, her life starts to change, but is it for the better? Bones also makes an appearance not long after she decides to date others. She meets him in all places at a friend's wedding. Things don't go smoothly, but yet their love finds a way and they plan together to keep everyone safe, especially Cat.
So, with a "missing" father who still rules a part of her life and a very "interested" master vampire who Bones knows well wrecking havoc on their lives, they must find a way of mixing Cat's new life with their rekindled romance. The twists and turns keep for a fast and interesting read. Lots of action as well as the epiphanies within the mystery keep the book moving. This book is a must for those who love action with a smidgen of romance within. Great second book to this series. Of course, I recommend it.

"One Foot in The Grave" takes place four years after Cat leaves Bones to start a new life working for a government group that goes after vampires. Being half-vampire and half human, Cat wasn't given much of a choice but to join the group, but has found that she enjoys it and cares for the men that work for her. Vampire hunting is dangerous business and with a team that only sees vampires in terms of black and white, Cat knows that even thinking about Bones, her vampire ex-lover would be a recipe for disaster. But Cat does think of Bones daily and wonders if he still loves her. Now Cat has somehow caught the eye of a Master Vampire who wants her to add to his collection of oddities, and whats more odd than being the only vampire/human out there? To add to matters, the vampire happens to be Bone's sire. Bones and Cat happen to meet up again and realize there is still love there. Now she must be willing to let the 'cat' out of the bag to her collegues and her mother and Bones must be willing to turn against his sire and friend to protect Cat. Wow! This book was amazing! I have to say that Bones and Cat (for all their faults) are among the brightest, most exciting paranormal couples out there! Despite some slow dragging at the beginning, and a few momemets where I felt lost (perhaps forgetting some detail in the first book), this book was a solid four star, maybe four and a half stars. The entire last third of the book was breath taking and had the most fun ending that I've read in a long time. The last intriguing chapter was just icing on the cake. The diaglouge was always entertaing...Cat says some pretty off the wall things. Bones is just 'vampire' enough to keep him from being some sappy romance hero. There is a sex scene that was completely different from anything I have ever read before (and that is saying a LOT). It was the most original sex scene I have read since Anita had her semi-beastiality scene! Thank goodness this didn't have that gross out factor. Basically, this book rocked and the series completely stands out from anything around it. If the book could have had the momentum it had at the end, at the beginning as well, this would have been a five star book. Jeanine Frost is certainly a stand out in her field.

I was going to re-read this book until I read that book 3 is a little disappointing if you are still on a high from this one. So I am going to go straight to the next one. But man...did I want to flip back to certain chapters!
I wasn't feeling book 1 and couldn't stand how innocent and dumb (IMHO) Cat was but the character eventually grew on me. By the end I couldn't wait to read this one and the inevitable reunion between Cat and Bones. I did really like this book although it wasn't perfect. I felt as if Bones is slowly becoming a doormat and existing simple to protect Cat. At least in Book 1, he had a mission. The ending seemed slapped together for me but I am willing to give it the benefit of the doubt since the saga between Cat and her Father continues.
The sex scenes were some of the best I have read, although I missed some the emotional connection between Cat and Bones that occurred in the previous chapter. Okay...I'll admit it...perhaps this book is getting 3 stars because I was completely hot and bothered over one sex scene in particular. I still wish the story flowed better, focused on the love, gave Bones more of a purpose and made Cat just a tad bit less annoying. I'm hanging in there and holding out hope for more depth and character development.

This is the second in the Night Huntress story and once I started it I couldn't put it down.
Four years after leaving Bones, Cat is working for an elite branch of the government hunting down vampires. She has grown into a powerful woman, who doesn't take crap from anyone. She is using the skills that Bones taught her to capture or kill vampires. The department that she works for uses the information that she gathers to learn more about this race. I love how well these characters have developed since the first book. When Bones walks back into her life, Cat realizes that she can't live without him and everything else is secondary.
How will her team take the news that she has a vampire lover? Not as well as you would think. :) Throw in an assassin that is hunting down Cat and a jealous team member and Cat has her hands full.
I never thought I would be able to get into Urban Fantasy and I will be the first one to admit that I was wrong. Check out these books and dive into a world full of passion with two characters that explode from the page!

I read this on audio. I am stressed and lazy so this going to be a spewing of things that are rattling around in my head rather than another rehashing of the plot. The same narrator reads this novel who read the 1st one and manages to make Bones sound like a cartoon character. It has grown on me and I like it ;) I also liked the humor, the chemistry, and many of the new characters with the exception of the bland Noah and the team member secretly crushing on Cat (his name has already escaped me). I didn't like the fact that four years had passed (that threw me for a bit), I was annoyed again that Cat still puts up with crap from her mom who I hate with an intensity normally reserved for people who hate dogs and that rude guy who was crushing on Cat and accusing her of terrible things. She should've stabbed him with a stake and put him out of his misery early on. The non-vanilla love scenes that caused such a stir was a bit boring to me. Seriously, I don't know what that says about me. That also goes for most of the rest of the overblown sex. Maybe I'm just burned out but it just seemed so over-the-top "ooooh, ahhhh, bite me again, harder, never stop" blah, blah, blah . . . I started to tune it out. Still, a Cat and Bones book is still leagues above a lot of the other PNR stuff out there.

This second addition to the Night Huntress Series has proven even stronger and more intriguing than its predecessor and will leave fans of the first book well satisfied.
The storyline for OFITG actually begins a few years after the events of the previous novel Halfway to the Grave (Night Huntress, Book 1). Our half vamp heroine, Catherine Crawfield, has been working for the government culling troublesome vamps. When an assassination goes wrong and she finds a price on her head she is forced back into association with her former mentor and lover, the very delightful vampire Bones.
The romantic element in this book is, quite frankly, red hot. Frost doesn't tease the reader with a waffling heroine who suffers with a "should she, shouldn't she" dilemma for half a dozen novels. The feelings between Bones and Cat are very much mutual and it offers a refreshing change from other books in this genre that depend on unresolved sexual tension to fuel plot. In OFITG, the action element is strong enough on its own that that isn't necessary and all the tension we need comes from our villains as well as interactions with an ever increasing number of complex secondary characters.
This isn't to say the book is perfect. Cat's character at times comes across as a bit juvenile for someone in her mid to late 20s who has been slaying vampires for the past several years and slang terms such as "hurl" and "duh" don't help with this image. Also the first half of the novel feels a bit rushed and it's easy to feel disoriented within the timeline. This along with a lack of detail on occasion (Cat acquires a kitten early in the novel that conspicuously lacks a name) leave the reader feeling like Frost's editor had her limited to x number of pages and she had to cut out some of the depth.
Overall this was a great read that very skillfully blended romance and urban fantasy. Frost continues her trend of writing books that have very satisfying endings while keeping you interested in future books.

After the bloodbath involving some evil governor and truly wicked vampires, Catherine Crawfield bade goodbye to her human life. Coerced by the government to join the special unit that hunts down all things paranormal, Special Agent Crawfield continues her work ridding the world of the undead. And as she continues to leave slain vampires in her wake, she has become the fabled Red Reaper - the vampire bogeyman. Now someone wants to stop her at all cost and there is a hefty price on her head. All of a sudden, the night huntress has become the hunted. What's a girl to do when she knows that her only hope could be the very person (er...vampire) that she left behind?
Yes, dear readers, old feelings will be reignited and new dangers will be thrown in Cat's path. I knew this and expected this. After all, the ending of Halfway to the Grave deliciously suggested this. Indeed, as I finished reading the first book, I was eager to see what happens to Cat after she became a Special Agent and what her reunion would Bones be like. Consequently, I devoured this book in two sittings because I simply had to find out. I will not go through the details for fear of spoiling the whole plot for other readers, but I can assure you that I was delighted by this second installment although not quite as rapt as I was with the first one. I guess my biggest gripe was that we didn't really get to see the early stages of Cat's life as an Agent and the lack of development with the secondary characters, but heck I had such fun reading this book that I can overlook this!
Jeaniene Frost provides a fantastic spin on the vampires and ghouls that she creates in her own world of make-believe. ONE FOOT IN THE GRAVE is quick-paced and filled with witticism. Frost injects some romance and sex that is written well-enough to avoid being categorised as smut. The ending hints at further conflict that our heroine will face in the future. And the reader waits to see what Frost has in store for our fabulous half-breed.

Cat Crawfield seems rather invincible. She's a half-vampire, half-human woman who works as a vampire slayer for the government. Four years have passed since the events in the previous book ('Halfway to the Grave') and she has been trying to move her life on after leaving her vampire lover, Crispin Randall, known as Bones although the cause of this name isn't explained in this book. However when Cat discovers that someone is trying to assassinate her she finds herself teaming up with Bones again to try to find out who's trying to kill her. Cat now has her own team of humans who help her in her vampire slaying and she has to overcome their prejudices against the undead as well as her own negative feelings towards Bones's former lovers.
There's plenty of action in this book - Cat's an invincible (almost) fighter although the fights have more realism than some as people do actually get injured. She's a lively and interesting character too although she does tend to leap into situations without properly reflecting on them some of the time. Cat's vampire-hating mother has a brief appearance in this book which is amusing but it's mostly about vampire politics, fights and Cat and Bones's relationship, as well as Cat's thirst for vengeance against her father.
Some of the dialogue for Bones felt a little awkward - he used English slang but sometimes it didn't quite sound authentic to these English ears. He was also slightly nebulous as a character - I didn't feel I really got to know him in the same way that I learned about the other characters. This issue was perhaps addressed in the previous book in the series, which I haven't read, but it didn't really detract from this story too much.
However I loved this book, felt it was well-paced and interesting with some good characters and with well-thought-out vampire lore underpinning the events. It has inspired me to pick up the first in the series and I will certainly look forward to the next offering from this author.

How amazing that book is? I'm at lost for words to explain how much I loved the second installment in the Night Huntress series.
Cat is powerful, sexy, resourceful and full of surprises. She is now a Federal agent killing and capturing vamps for the greater good. Working with a crew of very unique men, Cat is dully doing her job trying not to think of her one true love, Bones.
I'd like to take a moment to mention that I love Tate, Juan, Dave and Cooper, Cat's co-worker because they are all different, funny and they would do anything for their beloved Cat. They would give their lives for her, and so would she.
Bones is as sexy as ever, smoldering hot isn't a strong enough word, I just love the guy to the bones (pun intended).
We were also introduced to Denise and Randy in that book. Denise is Cat's best friend and Randy her new husband, they weren't major characters, but I'm hoping we'll discover more about them in the future books!
There were so many treason and lies revealed in this book, it was insane. There is a lot more to the whole story than you think at first, and it's stunning to see all the events unfold that way.
Jeaniene is truly a genius, I loves the characters, love the story, I can't have enough of Jeaniene's writing!
I have the next two books in the series, and I am trying to hold back a bit to make the pleasure last, I don't want to rush through the whole series, but geez it's gonna be hard lol

One Foot in the Grave is the second book in the Night Huntress series and I loved this so much! I think because we knew these characters, that jumping into this world was so easy. I also love that this was set years after the first book, so Cat had matured and found some inner confidence. The world created here is awesome and I can’t wait to read the next book in this series and find out what else is in store for Cat and Bones.

Being a one time fan of the Anita Blake series, I was more then excited to come across another series that I thoroughly enjoy.
I absolutely love Cat and Bones and the relationship between them. After taking on a new life and working under Don, Cat trains her own unit of soldiers in her quest of ridding the undead.
I got a little giddy when Bones was the man that showed up to her friends weddings, it was one of the most amusing scenes in the book - the attraction between them and the jealousy that Cat rides every time she meets one of Bones old flames are all rather amusing.
More of the past comes hunting both Bones and Cat within these series and you can watch them come to life and grow with excellent character development that doesn't skip a beat. I grow more and more attached to these characters, and the ending over all in this book has me hoping to get my hands on the third one to continue this fascinating journey.

This second book in the series gives us a more mature Cat Crawfield working for a special unit of the government that kills human-murdering vampires. Cat is the commander of her specialized team and is operating under a secret identity and hasn't seen Bones in four years.
Cat is so much more likable in this story. She's matured because of the choices she made to protect Bones and her mother and commands a team. She's more thoughtful in her decision making but still the fearless woman we love.
I loved this story, which has Cat reconnecting with Bones and continuing her search for her father. We still have the exciting scenes with Cat in action and the romance with Bones is off the charts (beware of Chapter 32). The tension between her and her team because of her relationship adds additional spice. The story is well-written with a seamless flow from one chapter to the next. I hated to see it end so I'm on to the next in the series.
This is a must read!

"One Foot In The Grave" is a sexy, wild ride on the Cat and Bones train. It starts a bit slower, compared to "Halfway To The Grave", but maybe that is just my desperation for Bones to return. Jeaniene Frost's teasing writing style draws you right into the story. As usual, she does not disappoint. She knows exactly what we want more of - Cat, Bones, romantic scenes, vampire vanquishing, kickass fight scenes, sass, and spunk.
The characters are deeper in this book. Emotions and relationships are more calculated. Cat and Bones have more between them than unsatiated lust. Cat seems to have grown to be more independent and surer of herself, but this has not at all affected her thoughts and feeling for Bones. Bones has more tricks up his sleeve and secrets to reveal. A huge revelation about Cat's father is unveiled. And there are two twists at the ending that literally left me with me with my jaw hanging.
I like that other undead characters continue to have a spotlight. Rodney, the ghoul, returns to help save the day. I like that the ghouls aren't minions, rather just different from the vampires. I also appreciate that Jeaniene Frost didn't go for the obvious and use weres.
Although the addition of the government team and Cat's new-to-us best friends help the storyline and the increase the possibilities for future sequels, I am not terribly fond of the new `Scooby Gang'. I have a secret desire for Cat and Bones to work alone with no outside influences or distractions, in an us-against-the-world sort of thing. The new characters may have a place in the book but have yet to find a place in my heart.
Conclusion:
There is no disenchantment or let down in the second book of the Night Hunter series. Emotions run high, excitement abounds, and sensuality oozes from the pages. "One Foot In The Grave" leaves me with the familiar desire to immediately pick up the next sequel.

I have to say upon first opening this book my favorit feature for about 30 mins was just being able to look at Bones. Ah! Probably one of my all-time favorite heroes. Very jealous of Cat. The only tiny little thing that annoys me about her would have to be how little she trusts Bones-after he fully commits himself and his life to her over and over again, not to mention his major sexiness!-but I got over that through the course of the novel. Also Cat's new career, and relationships with her colleagues are throughouly explored, closed and changed; never a dull moment. Yes, the sex is still explicit, but it fits nicely.
Obviously, from above, you know that Bones returns, but Cat has truly grown up now. Yes there is still some kinks-world's largest understatement-to be worked out with her mom, but the book never slows.
Jeaniene Frost has once again created a romantic and action thriller worth buying with only 1 chapter read in Hastings, like myself. I cannot wait for At Grave's End to come out; and don't let the title worry you, there are at least 2 more books after that. Cat and Bones won't be gone anytime soon!

My thoughts on this book are pretty much the same as my thoughts on the first book of this series--except that a touch of the originality was gone because I've met all these characters and situations before. This was a very entertaining book. I liked the characters and the fighting, and the romance was hot. For more details, please see my review of Halfway to the Grave.
One more thing before I end this short review: There was a moment in the big sex scene where I had to go back and reread because I couldn't believe the author had written it. It would make me blush to go into more detail. (I'm sure if you look for more details in some of the other reviews, you will find out what I'm talking about.) Granted, I'm relatively new to any kind of erotica, so I may be a little prudish here. For me, that bit of the scene took a little bit of my enjoyment away; it was too much for me.

I liked this book more than the first book "Halfway to the Grave" but in this series it makes sense to read the books in order. I don't think the chemestry between Cat and Bones would come across if you skip the first book.
It's four years later and Cat still works for this government agency traking down vampires with her team. Than someone tries to kill her and she accidently runs into Bones at a wedding. She is still not over him and he is also pretty much the only one that can keep her safe from the person who tries to kill her.
I thought this books was a lot darker and even more violent than the first one. Halfway to the Grave had some pretty bloody scenes in it as well but some of the scenes in One Foot in the Grave are straight horror movie material. I also thought that Cat was a lot more aggressive. She got so easily pissed off no matter what anyone said and in some situations I just didn't understand what her deal was
However, I loved how Bones and Cat got on with their relationship I loved that they didn't let anyone get in between them. I also liked that there is a lot more about that whole vampire world and there is also a side plot with a Ghoul involved that I liked. I definitely will read the third book in this series as well but I hope that Jeaniene Frost will involve the side characters a little more (maybe a love story with one of Cat's team members since Bones and Cat are rock solid now).

So many things about this series totally makes me all giddy! First there is Cat. I have said it before and I will say it again, I LURVE heroines that can kick ass and take charge! Cat doesn't think twice about doing what she has to to protect herself and the ones that she loves! She gets the job done and does it well..even better than the strongest man! Girl power! (yeah I hate that phrase too but damn does she do it well!)
Second, Bones. Oh my dear sweet lord is Bones an awesome character! I love his swagger. He has everything that you need to make a great hero. He's strong, loyal, and dead sexy! Seriously, if Cat WASN'T romantically attracted to him, I would have thrown the book across the room! The two of them have wonderful chemistry and they make a powerful couple. I think they qualify as my favorite book couple.
I loved this book! I can't wait til I can read the next one

I just recently started this series and planned to space it out, but after the ending to Book 1, there was no way I could wait. And wow, did this one deliver memorable scenes. I was squealing and mentally jumping around at one scene (love poignant scenes within a series so much). I absolutely loved it. I liked how strong we see Cat become, and as always the banter was top notch. The narrator for the audiobooks is exceptional, making me prefer listening to reading this series.

I enjoyed the first novel involving Cat as the main character, it was a 4 star book. This book, however, I can't. I was bored out of my mind with Cat. This is my gripe, may be yours too, we'll see:
Spoilers:
* Superwoman takes on disposable lame villains. See, this is the reason why I ended up reading Spade/Denise book first because I tend to avoid books and movies with vampire hunters in them, especially those involving half-breeds of some sort. It's never consistent and every enemy in the story is made out to be some dimwitted, slow-moving, screw-up in order for the hero/heroine to come out on top. By the third page of this book I had rolled by eyes at least twice.
*Not only was Cat super strong, but she just HAD to talk SOOOO much crap in between each blow. How clichéd. This book was overflowing with bravado, each page was drenched in it.
*Can someone please tell me why not ONE vampire in the books was able to dodge one of her many, many, daggers? It was almost as if every vampire in the book just stood still and waited to get stabbed in the heart with her daggers. No one deflected a dagger, or caught one in mid air. You'd think with vampires being super fast, they'd see a big silver knife headed their way, but I guess not.
*Can someone explain to me why it seemed that cat was stronger than EVERY vampire in the book other than Bones and Mencheres? She even defeated Ian, who is Bones's sire. She took on a cave full of vampires on her own and managed to not end up dead, even outrunning a possible master vampire who may have been 500 years old. If Bones can fly and he's not even 300 years old, then why couldn't the other vampires as old as Bones or older?
*It got to the point, I skipped Cat's fight scenes, because they were far too unbelievable for me choke down with a straight face.
* Another reviewer mentioned the new characters, saying they didn't have enough personality for you to really develope a liking to them and it's true. Not only did the men on her team seem like a bunch of brown-nosers, they just didn't grab you. Tate with his constant whining seemed to border on self-masochism, and didn't make me feel one way or the other about him. The other two men where just "there". Then we have Denise who's supposed to be Cat's best friend, but you don't hear about her any more after the wedding which did seem like a plot device to get Bones and Cat together again. But Denise wasn't even an after thought when Cat was thinking about protecting the people she loved from her enemies. They watched her mom's house and her ex-boyfriend (forgot his name), but no thought about Denise.
The plotline with Ian, seemed unnecessary. It could have been handled easily just by them telling the truth. Ian only went after her because he thought she was free and unprotected, so he could claim her. Had Bones told him when he first spoke to Ian, "no, that's my woman and I'm going to get her back. I need you to back off." I'm sure Ian would have stayed away. Instead, it was like they wanted to grind an ax for no apparent reason. As if kicking Ian's butt wasn't good enough, she had to rub his nose in her crap too. That brings up the point another review made about "too much wish-fulfillment" and I couldn't agree more.
What I did like:
Bones is an attention grabber and he keeps me glued to every page with his name on it. I didn't mind him being strong, just seemed he was the only strong vampire in the world, even stronger than Ian and I don't see how that's possible if Ian is his sire. Didn't seem right.
I did like some of the scenarios in the books, the cat fight was fun, but it would have been better if Annette didn't get the floor wiped with herself and managed to save some face, having been a 2 hundred year old vampire. But no one could defeat the Cat, I guess.
I'm still intrigued enough with the other characters to continue reading this series, but I have officially wiped my hands clean of Cat, she's become a too overblown character in my opinion. There's no suspense in that.

The first book was good and this one is even better. As the second in the series, it keeps going strong and adds some dimensions to the story that I definitely didn't see coming.
Several years after the events in Halfway to the Grave, half-vampire Catherine "Cat" Crawford is still trying to adjust to her life without her all-vampire lover, Bones. The years training her team of special agents to be top notch vampire killers have kept her busy, but it hasn't been enough. And suddenly Cat is beset by constant attempts on her life. This time, they're coming from both sides: the living and the undead. And the only way to stay alive long enough to find out who's behind the attempts is to rely on Bones. The only real question is will she be able to walk away again?
One Foot in the Grave does a good job of developing the characters from the first book. The emotions are harder hitting, the humor is even better, and some interesting revelations about Cat's heritage are discovered. A definite must read for fans of the first book.

I have never been motivated enough to write a review on any book until I read this series. After finishing the Sookie Stackhouse series I was searching for something that would keep me occupied until the next book in the series came out. On the advise of book forum I found this series. After reading the first few pages of the first chapter online I was already hooked. The writing style and dialogue Frost uses is neither repetitive or pulpy, as I've noticed other writers from this genre use. Her use of description is also quite impressive. After reading the first book I found myself desperate to find out what happens next, and I quickly tracked down the remaining 3 books. The whole series is fast passed, romantic, action filled, and has a refreshing new take on vampires. The only bad thing I can say is that the author decided to write a few spin-offs from this series instead of writing the 5th book. Keep'em coming please.

I loved this book!!! From page one, the action, adventure, suspense, and romance jumped off the page and kept me engaged. Cat and Bones have such on-page chemistry that you just can't help but to them root them on.
Cat, saucy, sexy, sarcastic, and strong-willed, was an exemplary heroine. I loved her one- liners. I truly laughed out loud when she said Annette was like "Martha Stewart on crack cocaine." Literary genius, Ms. Frost :).
And Bones...are there any words needed to describe Bones. He is THE alpha male of alpha males. Dominant, strong, decisive, and gentle. He stood in front, beside, and behind Cat throughout the entire book. He was loving and protective but supportive in everything she did...including dealing with her harpy of a mother *shiver*.
This was truly a very enjoyable read.

I was readings a sample book and Cat and Bones were mentioned in the sample I was reading. So I decided to do a search for these characters and boy was I pleasantly surprise to find the series. I was at the library and read the first book and was hooked. I was happy to find out that this book was also really good. I really liked that Ms. Jeaniene Frost gave 2 strong characters, Cat and Bones, that are well develop and darn funny. Although their love for each other is part of the overall story, the book actually has a plot. The conversations that Cat and Bones have are witty and so funny I was actually laughing at 3am while reaing the book, once I started I couldn't put it down. And boy the sex scenes are HOT! And thanks to Ms. Frost I will forever look at English men in a different way. All though I checked book 1 from the library, I am actually going to buy the electronic version to add to my library... Mr. Frost; keep the good books coming!!

After the way the first book ended, I was a little wary on the direction this series was going to take. But this book met my every expecation and then some. The story opens 4 years after the first book ended. Cat now leads a team that hunts vampires. She has a great life, friends, and is good at what she does. But even now she still misses Bones, the love of her life. I don't want to give too much away, so let me just say that this a fun, fast read that will not disappoint. I think one of the best qualities of this book is the humorous dialogue and situations. I was laughing out loud at some points, something I never do while reading a book. Oh, and I'm not all about needing sex included in the books I read, but boy can Frost write a good love scene! If all writers could write them that well I would be reading a lot more romance novels. I hope Frost continues this series and if so, I can't wait to see the direction the next book takes!

A realistic setting, fast action, believable romance, cool vampires, fascinating characters, a grand plot and lots of gore. A thriller, mixed with a vampire novel mixed with an adult love story. The background information on the characters is so perfectly slipped into the flow of the story that there was no slow down of the action. It was never bland, boring and there was never a cliché. That I noticed. A book so great that I would compare it to the works of Anne Rice and Kim Harrison. Even a sexy cover.
It was so good it took me a few days after finishing it to realize that it was Book 2 in the series. It was THAT good. I've already grabbed the first book and can't wait to read it.
If you plan to buy one vampire novel anytime in the next year, this should be it. Get it. Used, new, from the library, whatever. Just GET it.

I was excited for this sequel for many reasons: Bones, Bones, oh, and Bones. Also, because it takes place a rather shocking Four Years after Halfway to the Grave (Night Huntress, Book 1) and, I have to say, I like that Jeaniene Frost was willing to take that big a leap with just her second book. Most urban fantasy series books take place right on on each other's feverish heels, yet the readers have waited sometimes a year for the second installment, and occasionally I find myself wanting more time to have passed for the characters as well. Add a little more gravitas to the situation. Like we've all grown up a little in the interim.
ONE FOOT IN THE GRAVE starts out in the middle of Cat Crawfield's new life as a federal agent working for a little known department of Homeland Security specializing in vampire eradication. Having forced herself (for his safety) to leave Bones and her former life behind, Cat has become Cristine Russell and spent the last four years literally consumed by her work, training up a team of vampire slayers lean and mean enough to make Bones proud. Unfortunately, someone seems to have discovered her secret and is leaving clues around her old stomping grounds. Cat and her team follow the clues home to find someone old and powerful has put a price on her head and all the undead bounty hunters are coming to play.
I definitely liked the premise of this story and the guys on Cat's team are fun, interesting characters who I hope will stick around throughout the series. The scene where Bones and Cat see each other for the first time in four years was just as delicious as I hoped it would be. And, who are we kidding? Any page with Bones on it is a good one. Make that, a great one. What I needed was more from Cat. She doesn't seem to have grown at all in the last four years. And while I understand she's sort of been hiding from a lot things she doesn't want to face, she's still got this great team of guys who will walk over hot coals for her, and (when he comes back) a protector and lover who will do anything to make her happy, and she still seems to spend most of her time drinking, fighting, swearing, and whining. All in slightly too extreme quantities for me to buy. That's not the Cat I remember. She's Cat sans the the sweetness and sense of humor that made her so endearing in the first book and that made me think she deserved the awesomeness that is Bones. Oodles of action (fighting and otherwise) seem to dominate this story when I wanted more character development and the Cat I remember. Maybe Bones feels the same way...Hopefully, we'll both find what we're looking for in the next volume, At Grave's End (Night Huntress, Book 3).

I cant wait for the next book to come in January. See, lucky for me though I just finishing reading the 1st book yesterday! So I had to run out and buy the 2nd immediately. I pity all those who had to wait to see what happened between Cat and Bones. I got to find out immediately.
This was a great follow up book for the first. Its sexy, fun, and hella-interesting! I love the how they dig into vampire culture.. at least in the vampire culture of Ms. Frosts world. Every series has a different set of vampire rules, and I liked how they got into the politics a bit.
I am anxiously awaiting the third installment. All I have to say though is I know that there has to be some conflict between Bones and Cat to keep the story interesting, but they are the main characters - when all is said and done, the need to end up together!

I loved this installment to the series. It was so exciting to see how many truths finally came to the surface. Cat's life is seriously rocked, and I couldn't stop reading to find out what was going to happen. I absolutely love that Bones is back, and I loved getting to know Cat's team. Luckily, there wasn't another killer cliffhanger in this one, but I still can't wait to find out what is going to happen next in book three. If you haven't picked this series up yet, do it already.

I love this series. Frost writes things so differently than a lot of the other vamp romance authors, so she really stands out in comparison. The book starts out with Cat longing for Bones years after she walked away from him (believing that was what was best for him to keep him alive). She's been working for an agency that keeps track of vamp violence and activities while running tests and things on the vamps, ever since she left Bones. In the first book, she expects to hate her job, but she's grown to really like it, and become really close to the people she works with.
But thankfully, Bones does come back. And Cat realizes that Bones never forgot about her, just like she never forgot about him. But her life is on the line when she finds out that a vamp master is after her to make her his own. This master turns out to be Bones' sire and one of his best friends. And in order to save Cat from this fate, Bones must find a way to break his ties to his sire to claim Cat as his own.
Frost is a brilliant writer. There were so many twists to this story. Things that happened were so unexpected and shocking, but they were perfect! I loved the first book, but this one was much better. Frost has created an excellent heroine. And Cat's inner ramblings are something that definately make the reader laugh out loud. Bone is the perfect character to go along with Cat. She can be very down on herself sometimes, especially when it comes to her half-vamp, half-human issues. And Bones is always there for her, telling her exactly what she needs to hear.
I'll anxiously be awaiting the 4th book to the series!

A read for just whenever. Its a filler book. Entertaining when you need it. The only thing that really bothered me alot . Is that the author doesnt know anatomy. Because if youre writing a vampire/urban fantasy book. You'd better know that the jugular is a vein not an artery. Do to the numerous references to biting the jugular for arterial flow. It ruined the story a little for me.

I am so happy I found this series.
A really good read, with tension, action in and out the bedroom and some bad guys to fight against.
Cat is in a secret team to destroy bad vampires. She is doing a really good job, but she can't forget Bones. She loved him, but to protect him she had to leave him.
Now the past is back in her life. The outcome?
Read the book, I am sure you won't regret that.
I am looking forward to read the next book in the series.

Frost's Night Huntress books are fun reads that don't take themselves too seriously. Think Buffy the Vampire Slayer in paperback form. Entertaining, vampire-slaying good time, and a little drama without a bunch of angst.
I was suprised to read that the sequel to "Halfway to the Grave" started off four years after the last ended. By now Cat has a well established team of vampire hunters, but still can't help but miss Bones. It's a good thing, then, that he is thrown back into her life.
I enjoyed this sequel more than the first. I was disappointed with Cat and Bones's seperation at the end of the last book so was happy to see that he is back and takes a leading spot in this story. I would like to see the other characters a bit more fleshed out and am interested in where the author takes the series.

I was very surprised to find out this book takes place four years later after Half Way to the Grave. Somehow, I was expecting it to pick right up where the last book ended, which in a sense it did, but now Cat who is half human, half vampire has been working for the government as a special agent for quite some time. Cat has grown up. She is more confident in herself and leads her team with all of the training Bones instilled in her. She is a tough leader and doesn't expect anything from her team that she herself is not prepared to carry out. She misses Bones but knows that her leaving was in his best interest. The book has plenty of action, great characters, and a poignant romance. I look forward to many more in this series.

Cat Crawford has adjusted to her life as a Special Agent, tracking down and killing vampires as part of her team. Her half-vampire skills have come in handy in her new role. She still hasn't forgotten Bones, the vampire who trained her, no matter how hard she has tried. Someone has now targeted Cat for death, bringing Bones back into her life. Will Bones and Cat be overcome the differences between them?
What a fabulous second entry in the Night Huntress series! If you haven't read HALFWAY TO THE GRAVE, stop right now and read it first. The relationship between Bones and Cat is a complicated one and the author establishes the grounds for the events of ONE FOOT IN THE GRAVE quite well in the first story. Without reading the first novel, I'm not sure if readers will get the full flavor of the depth of the emotions between Cat and Bones.
Jeaniene Frost splendidly adds to the world of intrigue she carefully crafted in HALFWAY TO THE GRAVE. Vampire politics are beginning to emerge and the intricate details that make up this world are starting to pull together into one very interesting picture. ONE FOOT IN THE GRAVE is not simply a book about vampire slaying but is instead a very rich and deep world in which we are given some new twists on vampires.
I love the way Cat's character is developing. She is still young but she is growing up rapidly. And who can't help but love Bones? The secondary characters that have been introduced add a lot to the storyline and I look forward to seeing more of these characters in future books as I suspect Jeaniene Frost has a few surprises in store for us.
ONE FOOT IN THE GRAVE solidifies Jeaniene Frost's place in the ranks of the top urban fantasy writers. If you are craving a new vampire series, the Night Huntress series is definitely one to check out!

I gave the first book in the series three stars, and wasn't sure if I would continue reading.
I didn't want to give up so easily, so I bought books two and three.
To sum it up, the Night Huntress Series is a mindless (which is not always bad) and fun story to read.
It doesn't require a lot of thinking and guessing as to what will happen.
The plot is often times repetitive with it's vampire slaying and vampire loving scenes.
The characters lack a certain depth that usually draws me into a book, but they all work well together.
From the beginning, I think I was expecting something completely different from this series; maybe that's why I was a bit critical.

Enjoyed this story in this second ebook. I had bought the Audible along with the ebook to follow the narrator's words by reading too. It is fun for me to hear the British pronouncement of words we have been taught to speak differently.
The only thing I can say about this storyline is I can put my kindle down several times and leave it a couple days before returning to the story. I usually fight fatigue to finish an exciting, excellent storyline, but not in this, therefore 4 stars. This ebook is still a good story.

What can I say - I liked the first one and this one didn't disappoint.
Overall it was a tight engaging story like the first, with likeable characters, in particular the secondary characters. I give it a 4 for a few weaknesses - for one I was a little weirded out by Tate (Dont' want to spoil so I'll leave it there) and also by the slight potential I smelled for an LKH Haremfest in the future. I'm not saying it seemed like it was going there, but it COULD, and lets face it - that didn't work out so great for LKH.
There were also occasionally phrases that seemed slightly out of place -- I think this was due to the fact that I honestly think it could have been longer and the editor/publisher hacked it down to an acceptable length for the genre. I personally would rather read another hundred pages and get a lusher book, but I realize that authors don't have a lot of control over it - if the publisher says that urban fantasy only sells if its under X pages then they'll slash it til its under X pages. a little more exposition, a little more description could have gone a long way here.

My husband and I listen to the whole series on audible since we are truck drivers I have to say that it made my 10 hours go by fast and I found myself not wanting to shut it off to sleep. The narrator just makes listening all the better, she's awesome. Can't wait to get the rest of the series as well as the world series . thank you for such great stories. I just love all the characters. One more thing, so for those who've read the books and say Kat is boring, you don't know what your saying finish the series before making that type of comment. Enough said thank you again Halfway to the Grave (Night Huntress, Book 1)

Summary: 5 stars. Like the previous book, there’s a lot of action, romance, mystery, and fantasy with great writing.
One Foot in the Grave is the 2nd Night Huntress book. After the events of book 1, Cat is going through the motions of her life without Bones. Until he comes back into her life! The romantic chemistry is as delicious as ever. I liked the mystery in this book even better than the one in book 1, and I also enjoyed the cast of supporting characters and seeing more of the UF world Jeanine Frost has created. The action scenes are great, and the writing is as always fantastic.

Perfect follow-up to Halfway to the Grave. Frost hits exactly the right note by setting the sequel several years after the original. One Foot in the Grave sees Cat leading a ragtag team of vampire hunters under the auspices of the government. When hints that her former vampire lover is getting close to finding her crop up, it's only a matter of time until nitro meets glycerin. An amazing story and captivating read. My only complaints (minor spoilers) are an anal sex scene, and a vampire hearing the report of a gun firing in time to intercept the bullets. The former was a turn-off for me, the latter was a physical impossibility since a speeding bullet travels much faster than sound.
Otherwise, the sex was hot, the action was intense, and Cat and Bones provided a sizzling sun for everything to revolve around.

Cat leaves Bones to save his life and to head up a new team for the DHLS- paranormal investigations unit. Justina, is her usual surly self. And poor Cat - she is miserable knowing she left Bones to save him and in doing so made herself (and everyone stuck around her) miserable because of it.
An impromptu vampire wedding and Max in a box - add a dash of wit, a lot of steam and stir!
Cat and Bones continue to give us what we loved in the first book making this a good follow-up to the in the series! I'm really loving this series - shame I hadn't found it earlier!

I really enjoyed this book, especially since we see Cat has grown a lot in the years since she left Bones. She still has a tendency to leap before looking but it makes good reading. Bones.....can I just say if there was ever a vampire I'd like to meet it be this one, he's such a hoot and Hallo....hot!

After finishing (and loving) the first book in this series, I was eager to read the next one. Well...what a disappointment. The story starts out well, and the plot is pretty good, but the same plot hole that bothered me in the first book remains. I won't add any spoilers, but every time I thought of this hole, I was dragged from the story.
Cat and Bones still have wonderful chemistry (a nice thing about the book), but what troubled me the most was the way the book goes from a PG-13 story to a rated XXX about midway through. I don't mind reading steamy novels, providing that they set this tone from the beginning. The Black Dagger Brotherhood is a prime example of this. It starts and ends with intense 'romance'. On the other hand, 'One Foot in the Grave' is very vanilla until that *one* chapter in which the author sees fit to explore beyond the ordinary (this was a very graphic chapter involving beyond the norm activity). That, to me, is a cheap shot. If that *one* chapter had been removed from the book, the story wouldn't have been impacted at all, and I would have upgraded my review to four stars.

Our half-vampire Cat has been working as a vampire-killer for a covert group since she cut off all ties with her vampire lover in the previous book. Of course, she still loves him, and when he finally tracks her down, struggles against the urge to renew their relationship while believing his association with her threatens his existence. When her boss and team find out, their trust in her is shaken, which makes it all the more difficult to combat the mercenaries who are out to kill her for the price on her head. And when she discovers the secrets her employer has kept from her, even more chaos ensues. This second book is action-packed and filled with enough romantic angst for the reader who thirsts for it, but for me it skirts dangerously close to the edge of cheesy at times. Still, despite the extended gratuitous sex scene at the end which really felt overdone and irrelevant, on the whole the book is entertaining and still leaves me curious enough about the characters to read the next installment.

Cat is your average girl-next-door, except for spending her evenings luring and killing evil vampires. One of those evil vampires raped Cat's mother; he was newly turned and therefore was able to impregnate her... with Cat. Cat's mixed blood explains her unusual strength and her special attraction to trolling vampires.
In the first book of the series, "Halfway to the Grave," Cat develops a relationship with a vampire called Bones. In this second book, they work together to tackle a criminal industry run by vampires - and local politicians - involving the kidnapping of young women.
The plot moves along well, and the characters are irresistible.

I had to laugh at the person who said this book had a realistic settting. So how many people you know live in caves? Work for a secret branch of the government? Walk into bars into a secret back room to witness vampires sucking the life out of three people? carry around silver knives strapped to their boots? And really, come on? Have you bothered to count HOW MANY knives they throw during a fight? It's absolutely absurd. This book is like a corney Bond's movie. Yet like the said famous corney movie, it does have a draw. I read it because it was strange and I enjoyed for the same silly reason, but I would not considered this excellent writing.

Cat Crawfield is a half-vampire vampire hunter in love with a master vampire. This makes her sound like one of those homophobic, closeted gays, but it's the human world that doesn't trust her, not the vampire world. No matter how often she lays her life on the line as part of a super-secret FBI branch, she can't earn the trust of her boss.
It's Cat's boyfriend Bones who drags the story down. He's perfectly handsome, has superhero-like attributes (strong, fast, smart, etc.) and has an annoying Central Casting English accent ("Give us a kiss, love"). Furthermore, he has only positive consequences from being a vampire - he's an ad for being a vampire. He can renew and heal a human by biting them. When being mortal is in all ways inferior to being a vampire, you lose a lot of the inherent tension in the human-vampire relationship. Why don't we all become vampires, and then we can do all the cool stuff that vampires do too?
One Foot in the Grave is the second book in the Night Huntress series. I admit to not reading the first book. It put me at somewhat of a disadvantage, as there were lots of background interjections that slowed me down trying to follow them, and I missed Cat's full back story.
Readers who enjoy supernatural series but are flexible about their vampire mythology [...] loyalists, this means you) might enjoy the Night Huntress series. More demanding readers should look elsewhere unless they're stuck at an airport.

It's a rare occurrence that has me giving a book a 5-star rating. But this one gets it and more!
One Foot in the Grave is a truly stunning sequel to Jeaniene's debut novel. She doesn't go for the hard sell as some sequels fall prey to that whole BS of bigger, more, better! Instead Jeaniene just does what she's good at.
Telling the damn story.
I laughed all the way through this book. (that is when I wasn't gasping for breath at the sexy sexy parts :D ) From beginning to end it was entertaining, heart-stopping, touching, and just plain fun. I'm not kidding, I don't think I've read a book lately where I've laughed quite so much, Jeaniene has a great way with quick, witty dialog that's not forced at all.
Everything from Cat and Tate snarking at each other, to Bones' great one-liners, to Juan saying (to a newly revived friend) "You have to come back, Tate is boring and all Cooper does is train!" (seriously I nearly hurt myself laughing there) speaks of her characters depth and personality - they have history and we know it.
I can't say enough good things about this story. It's truly entertaining and all-around awesome.

To start, this was no better than the first and I still bought it. If you read it before the true blood series or the fever series it's a good book- however if you have read those, don't read. There are far to many holes and lack of substance. It's an easy read-simple writing. When some one asks me for a good "vampire/romance " book- this will not make the list.
With that said- I will probably by the next one because I feel vested. I do want to know how it ends.

Fans of Anita Blake and Sookie Stackhouse.....this one is for you. Special Agent Catrina " Cat " Arthur half vampire by birth and all badass with an attitude. An agent of the FBI/Homeland Security with an unusual skill set for keeping blood thirsty/lawless vampires in check. I can't wait to read her other books in this series. 1. Destined For An Early Grave 2.At Graves End 3.One Foot In The Grave 4. Halfway To The Grave

One Foot in the Grave by Jeaniene Frost. This is the second book in the series. Its about Cat who is now working as a special agent for the government and Bones (Crispin) who she left behind 4 years ago. They meet up again and do battle with Cat's father who is trying to kill her and Ian who wants her under his control as part of his lineage. There are some great fighting scenes and one heck of a romantic/erotic scene that could possibly make you sweat! I love the writing of Ms. Frost. This book kept my interest all the way through. Highly recommend the first two in this series.

I really loved Halfway to the Grave and couldn't wait to read One Foot in the Grave, all I can say is it didn't disappoint! This has to be one of the best books I've read all year!!! This is quickly becoming my favorite new series and I can't wait for the next Night Huntress book to come out. In the second of this series, One Foot we continue where Halfway left off. When Cat finally see's Bones again it's just hysterical! This couple has great chemistry. The characters are interesting, funny, and hot! The story line is exciting, and moves along at a fast pace, I was never bored. I just hope the next one lives up to the first two.

I almost put this book down after the first 50 or so pages. I can't stand how much the main character complains that her vampire boyfriend isn't around anymore. SHE left HIM, yet complains about it every other sentence. Thankfully they are reunited, so we don't have to put up with the whining for long. There is actual plot in this book, and a few interesting twists with her father and the group of vampires trying to kill her. Decent read overall, but in the group of books I've read lately it doesn't stand out as one of the best. The characters are just barely likable for me to continue reading the series, I really enjoyed the secondary characters introduced in this book. If you liked the first book in this series you will definitely like this one.

I wasn't sure I wanted to buy this book at first, since I liked the first one, I liked Bones, but wasn't sure the romance was enough for me. It read more like Urban Fantasy to me, with all the fighting. I must say, it is more Urban Fantasy, but Bones, Bones, Bones! He rules the book. There is a scene where he completely alphas out on Cat, and it is fantastic. The vamp gives me tingles. Very good followup and a great addition to the series.
I also just realized who Bones reminds me of - Clayton in Kelley Armstrong's "Bitten". Bones has the same kind of single-minded devotion, and I just love that. I also love that Cat didn't fight the romance this time, she just went with it, bless her half-vampire heart.

One foot in the Grave continues from Halfway to the Grave.
Cat is back in action, now working for a man called Dom and the government, hunting vampires and killing them for any wrongdoings. She makes her own rules, and trains others to fight by her side alone the way. Although she was blackmailed into doing it, she took the job to keep her mother happy.
Which meant giving up Bones, her master vampire lover.
She is slowly forgetting about her lover and with new friends made, and vampires to kick ass, it is easily done, but when her first boyfriend, Danny, the boy who hurt Cat, and the boy who Bones hurt, disappears, all fingers... or fangs... point to Bones.
Cat can't let herself think about him, wondering what could have been and continues on with her work. What she does not realise is that a hunter is hiding in the shadows, waiting for the right moment to show his face.
And what Cat does not realise, is that she is closer to the hunter than she realises, and finds out too late.
Bones is back and Cat tries to resist the lure she feels towards him. The fire kindling inside of her ignites. He is back for good, and he is not letting Cat get away from him again, especially when a master vampire, Ian, wants Cat for his own, and will stop at nothing to get her.
Just like the first book, this is a must read. Packed full of action and sex hot enough to burn your clothes off. You won't be disappointed!

To save the man she loves from the government, Cat Crawford left Bones years ago. In the meantime, she has adapted to her new life, exacting justice on rogue vampires as an agent of the United States. Thanks to Bones, who is himself a vampire, she is among the most adept at what she does, which makes her a target for assassination. Once again, she needs him in her life, although everyone else says it's a doomed relationship and he should be avoided. Bones is possibly the only person better at what Cat does than she is, and he does bring out her best. Though Cat planned on keeping things professional, Bones had other ideas.
***** If you want to read a book that follows a formula and is virtually indistinguishable from the last urban fantasy romance you read, or reads like a standard romance, except for the fact that the hero or heroine has fangs, fur, or both, then look elsewhere. The Night Huntress series is fresh, though it does have some of the hallmarks of the genre. Cat and Bones are a fantastic pair, perfectly simpatico, even when they are at odds. What's more, he's one of the most compelling heroes since J.D. Robb's Roarke. Don't just take my word for it though, read the books. *****

This is the second book in the series and I would recomend you read the first book first! Like the first book this is sexy action, sprinkled with a good dose of humor. If you dont take it to serious you'll really enjoy this series! I have read all the books, including the spinoffs and they are all great entertainment. If you want deep, soulful beautiful stories I would give this series a miss. If violent action, feisty dialog and a god love story with some decent sexy bits rocks your boat.. Read this!

The second book is as good as the first. The book has all elements to make it worthy buying.
Cat and Bone are great characters. Some of the dialogs made me laugh out and loud, some of it made me grin widely, some of it made me happy, sad and all the emotions, we readers are searching when we buy a novel.
It is a great mix of romance and action. The erotica part is mild and very well written, one of the best sex scenes in a vampire mating that I have read is on this book.
Great fun really!

I love this series. I was roped in from the first book and didn't stop till I finished all of them. This one picks up a few years after the first which I found really interesting. I'm not sure I've ever read a series quite like that. However, it does stand out among the other vampire books that I have read. This book is more intense than the first in my opinion and it only gets more involved as you go. But if you're looking for something different, interesting and fun...you must read!

Holy moley does this sequel pack a punch! Halfway to the Grave was easily readable due to the characters and how their chemistry unfolded in an action packed plot. It's always interesting to read sequels and see which path they take, and this one packed a punch for me. Slightly darker, more character development & a love scene that leaves you shakin... this book did not disappoint! All tied to an ending that rocks the paranormal mind & of course, leaves you screaming for more. Graves End, here I come!

The first book in this series was great in that the author created some new twists on the vampire & paranormal mythos and it kept the reader engaged in a solid mystery while also setting up for an enticing romance. I had been looking forward to book 2 in this series, as book 1 ended on a bit of a cliffhanger regarding the romance. Sad to say, book 2 did not achieve the same level as book 1. In fact, the 2nd of this series was predictable and struck this reader as being very formulaic. The mystery of the book fell flat; having little meat to it and too much emphasis placed on familial and work related politics. PLEASE note SPOILERS below!!!
The relationship Cat gets into with a normal human, her single female friend, and the brief glimpses the reader gets of her co-workers all point to a lonely woman devoted to her job. The human man she gets involved with comes across as so innocent, good-natured, & easygoing that it is very hard to believe Cat would ever date this man. There are a few scenes where he appears to be trying to show some backbone, but instead just seems whiny. When the longed for moment of truth finally occurs and Bones comes on screen again, the chemistry between he & Cat seems to have vanished. Bones displays a new repertoire of powers that he hints were hidden before. He can now fly, jump or run faster than a speeding assassin's bullet, and has tremendous ability for mind control, etc. He is sadly not the Bones from book 1 -- down to earth, straightforward, and outspoken about everything. In fact, the problem which led Cat to leave him in Book 1 -- that of her mother's hatred for him; is now resolved in a few pages. The mystery described on the back cover seems to be a different mystery than the one in the actual book; it seemed very unclear why exactly an assassin had been hired to kill Cat at this time and who had hired the assassin. I apologize for not wording this better, but twice now my reviews have been lost from signal interruptions.
For those who are considering this book I would say this: if you enjoy Harlequin romances, then this book will probably satisfy you. If you are more interested in a true urban fantasy and have little interest in the romantic entanglements of the characters, then this book may not be what you are looking for.

Check out my video review of One Foot in the Grave on YouTube. Search Shelf Addiction! This was a fun and fast paced book. If you've started this series, you'll want to continue on to read more about Cat and Bones! It's still early on in the series, but in my opinion, the story is getting more interesting and more complex as we go along. I'm hopeful that the next book will be equally as good if not better!

This is so far a fantastic series. I didn't enjoy this book nearly as much as the first, but it was still fast-paced, captivating and very exciting.
I was a tad let down at the climatic scene, yet with the way it ended, I can't complain. I love the dynamics of Bones and Cat's relationship and can't wait to read more.
If you enjoy reading, pick this series up. You won't regret it.

I just had to log in and rate this book, which is something I have never done, I just felt that strongly about it. The book was great, the writing was catchy and crisp, I was hooked within 10 pages. I loved Cat and Bones, *really* loved Bones. I felt the emotion with the characters, the story was fast paced and never left me wishing it would get to the point. I cannot wait for the 4th installment to come out. This book ranks right up there with BDB and IAD, great read!

I have been anxiously awaiting the release of One Foot in the Grave since the moment I finished the first book in the Night Huntress Series --Halfway to the Grave -- in October. My hope was that the sequel (One Foot in the Grave) would be every bit as good as the original. Guess what? It's even better!
The witty sarcastic tone of the first book (along with Cat's hilarious inner banter) is even more honed than before. This book retains the perfect balance of romance, suspense, action, and humor that made book one such a joy to read (and re-read.) The humor is funnier, the romance is sexier, the action is more edgy, and --as unbelievable as it seems-- Bones is even hotter. I would be lying if I said I wasn't grinning like an idiot throughout much of my marathon read today.
The main characters have evolved without changing the core of who they are. I was pleased at the presence nods to some of the characters from book one, and there were new characters that quickly become important to the reader, (which I hope to see again in book 3, At Grave's End)
All in all, it was everything I hoped it would be, and more. There is no doubt that Jeaniene Frost is comfortably finding her place amongst the most talented authors in the genre, and I expect to see many more great things from her.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I think I'll just order takeout for dinner and curl up for a reread of my new favorite book.

I love this series! Frost is a great writer and this second novel doesn't disapoint. I was dissatisfied with the ending of the first novel. However, this book picks up the romance a couple chapters in. The relationship between Cat and Bones really excels in this book. Also, we learn a lot more about the vampire world! Frost is an excellent writer and I'm looking forward to reading more! This is a definite must if you enjoyed the first novel :)

Cat is back and One Foot in the Grave is one of the best sequels I have read in a long time. Jeaniene Frost has written a new super-heroine that can play as dirty as the boys and won't take the injustices of life sitting down. The only other character I can compare her to in recent memory are Anita Blake from Laurel K. Hamilton or Eve Dallas from JD Robb.
One Foot in the Grave takes place four years into the future. Cat is no longer that naive, uncontrollable girl with a chip on her shoulder. Cat has grown into a sharp and intelligent woman who still kicks butt and comes up with the best comebacks and one-liners you can imagine. Cat is still a bit down on herself in terms of self-esteem and still thinks of herself as an outcast. She has become the head of an undercover group that works for the government. Even though she was basically blackmailed into taking this position, she has fought very hard to be in control and the "go to" person in almost every situation that arises.
Cat is half-human, half-vampire, and the department she works for is comparable to Homeland Security but for watching and experimenting on vampires. The powers that be want to know where vampires come from and how they can be stopped. In Halfway to the Grave, Cat hated her vampire side, now she is more comfortable in her skin and embraces it in a way. And the reason she does is due to her vampire lover she had to leave behind, Bones.
Cat has a hard time giving and receiving love, but when it came to Bones she was a goner. Cat has a lot of questions about her lost love. Has Bones wandered the world looking for her? Has he totally forgotten her and gone onto another lonely girl? Could Bones be dead? All these questions will be answered in ways you will not believe! I guess you can say it is not much of a spoiler since Cat and Bones are the ultimate couple, so you can expect to see him make an appearance. And with his appearance, Cat is yet again launched in uncharted waters. Bones may come across as a witty playboy type of guy, but he has great insight on a person.
One Foot in the Grave has quite a few twists and gasps that I did not see coming. Every thing comes out with a bang and you will meet some over the top characters that will make you laugh till your stomach hurts. And, the other thing Jeaniene can do very well is write a good quality love scene.
One Foot in the Grave is an excellent, paranormal urban fantasy that did not disappoint in the least. Jeaniene tightened up certain problems I had with Halfway to the Grave and wrote a story that is fast and furious.
One not to be missed!

I loved the first book in this series but I have to admit the ending left me a little worried. The author could have easily ruined the series by continuing along a pointless self sacraficing, give up the love of your life and whine about it the whole rest of the book senario. For some reason authors love to do that and it drives me crazy. But nope, Frost proved she has the talent to take a great first book and keep it going the way a good writter should. Cat and Bones still kick butt, and the storieline continues to evolve. Jeaniene Frost is quickly moving her way up my favorite author list and I think her books are going to end up with a permanant place on my "keeper" shelf. Can't wait for the next one!

Let me just start by saying out of all the books I own, this is my absolute favorite series. Period.
There really aren't any words to do these books justice. When I say these books have it all, I mean they have it all. Adrenaline pumping fight scenes, a love so intense it leaves you breathless and giddy, sex scenes so yummy and hot you're practically left hugging a fan for need of cooling off, and better yet-sometimes you get all three of those things at once. But Jeaniene Frost doesn't stop there...she even makes you cry. Sometimes from sadness, but more times than not, it's from laughing so hard at her incredible talent at being appropriately (or inappropriately-depending on your view) blunt and extremely witty, and you can't stop your eyes from watering with tears, even if you tried.
I could probably go on about these books forever, list every character and what makes them so awesome, 'cause let me tell you, they are all perfection of who and what they are when it comes to their rolls in these books; whether its someone you want to comfort, pity, love, laugh at, laugh with, kiss, punch, slap upside the head, or pretty much to just have your wicked way with ;) There's also just enough background character development on all the secondary characters that instead of feeling overwhelmed with unnecessary information, what information we do discover, Jeaniene made the incredibly smart choice of spreading it throughout all the books so that the characters actually develope and grow instead of having either several paragraphs or even page after page of unnecessary descriptions about a character so that they are then left with no where to go in the story.
As much as I want to rant and rave about the main characters (Bones and Cat), I will refrain or else this review would go on and on and on..., but I will say this to all you ladies out there: No matter how much we wish it, there is no man out there in the real world as perfect as Bones- flaws and all- hence his being a FICTIONAL character. Ok, so the perfect flaws and all comment was pretty much and oxymoron, but it doesn't matter because Bones makes it not matter. :)
Bottom line: if you want a great series, then read these books. I, for one, cannot fathom how anyone couldn't absolutely love this series (and also not drool over Bones...fictional or not, let me just grrrr....)

So the first book was ok, even had some neat concepts and characters emerge. They never were fully developed, so i assumed they might be in the second but No...still very flat and silly really. Bones while sexy yes, is so trite asnd cliched, with his "Wanker" and "sod all" and "bloody this bloody that" Real Brits do not speak this way...never have. I still couldnt figure out why this character was in love with Cat to the crazy degree he is...? and the same for her!! I think this book was mysoginistic, and sexist to the point of laughing out loud at many parts. So...i never thought i would raise my IQ by reading this...and have enjoyed some other urban fantasy romance..but this second book, and the third by the way, were absurd. Just more of the same, page after page after page after page.... As if a Government agency that is state-of-the art and obvioulsy costs millions to fund, would work primarily to protect one agent...the author should have thrown in some other (world saving maybe) motivations beside saving Cat's as$ over and over again. All men want her, most love her, all women hate her, or are jealous of her...she cant loose in a fight, though she has been at it only 4-5 years...against 100+ year old vampires? I think the author was lazy...she could have actually ahd something here...character development..world building...some pacing, and timing. A little break in the butt kicking by something other than mind blowing sex. And that...i was not disgusted or shocked, but it did get boring...doesn't poor Bones get a little effort shown toward him, or is he the only active particpant..every time..gees allot for work for the old guy. No sexual tension..no building up, denying what they want etc...I guess i have to say i tried..but just not my thing i guess. I think the Darkfever series was much much better. Anmd wioth that, back to literate, novels that make you think, feel, laugh (with not at), cry, pnder, learn...this was garbage

This series was recommended to be by someone in B&N that I had just met. I'm so glad that I remembered the name and bought it. They are hard books to put down, as she writes very well and her characters are well developed. You can't help but love Bones and Cat, or can't help but sympathize with their relationship struggles. It was hard not to be triumphant when something awesome happened, or to not bite your nails when there was a suspensful scene. Can't wait to get through reading the rest of the series! Hope you enjoy it as much as I thouroughly have. :)

I have read so many "3"s lately that I was shocked to find a "5". This book was fun and fast paced. The cover fit the book content perfectly. Fans of Kim Harrison, Charlaine Harris, and early Laurell K Hamilton, will like this book. I particularly liked that plot could be enjoyed without the romance details. However, if you are looking for romance, which I am not, there is still plenty of it in this book.

When I got this book, I was already I love with the series, but this book just took that up a notch. The trials faced agianst Cat and Bones is touching if not a little frustrating at times. I love how much cat has grown up from the first book to the second. There are a lot of surprises in this book, and it's fun reading how the mysteries reveal themselves throughout the book.

This series just gets better and better! I love that Cat and Bones can't get enough of each other and they have great chemistry..I am not sure if she is writing more books, but I am praying she plans on writing like 12 more books! This book they introduced more important characters and Cat gets to finally meet her dad, meet him not kill him, but I am praying we will see him again in the future. I love the scenes with Cat and Annette fighting over Bones, cracked me up!! Keep them coming Jeanine!!!

I prefer Urban Fantasy to Supernatural Romance, and I knew going into this series that it was SR. (Frankly the covers drew me in, and the jacket promised enough kick-buttery that I felt I could probably overlook the romance angle). I felt the first book was quite entertaining, but this one never quite connected with me.
I'm not entirely sure why that was, but here, I think are some factors:
a) New facts about the supernatural world revealed when they make for convienient plot twists. I'm thinking of two items in particular, which I'm not convinced the author had thought of during her pre-series "world-building".
b) The heroine's "job" never felt right to me. I've worked with (though not for) an number of government agencies, and "freewheeling" is not a term that pops into mind when I want to describe the process. The heroine gets to call her own shots with no oversight or paperwork way too often to be credible.
c) Too much "wish fulfillment". For instance, the fate of the cad who deflowered the heroine in book one comes to mind. Yes he was a cad, but he didn't rape her, and the continuous dishing out of punishment to him just seems spiteful and over the top.
d) Too few consequences. I'm thinking particularly here of a scene near the end of the book, which devalues an earlier scene.
On the plus side, the sex level is amped up from book one, there is some good humor (the two actually cross when the heroine decides a screaming orgasm is the best revenge..) and the government seems to be getting some idea about "good vampires" and "bad vampires".

Can't believe this series started in 2007 and I just learned of it... great story-line and the characters are written so well you not only feel you know them but you actually become emotionally invested. Looking forward to reading the rest of the series and seeing what happens.

When I found Halfway to the Grave I was enthralled by the characters and as soon as I finished I could not wait for the sequel. Much to my dismay it would not come out until months later. But let me tell you it was worth the wait. One Foot in the Grave picks up 4 years later after Halfway to the Grave and we get to see how Cat has tried to move on. We see as she tries to forget about Bones and as soon as she realizes she can't look who shows up. Lots a twist happen but Cat finally starts fighting for what she wants. I loved this book and I am back in the boat I was in before. Now I have to wait more months for the next one and I hope it is just as good as the ones before it.

I am so falling in love with this series! Jeaniene Frost has done it again, and created a wonderfully sexy and captivating sequel. The heroine has matured and Bones is still as charismatic and sexy as ever! Filled with pulse pounding action, solid endearing characters, interesting plot twists and one heck of a sex scene, this book will not dissapoint!

If your looking for romance I suggest this series. Cat has a whole new life in front of her and shes working for the government. She doesn't except to run into Bones but luckily she sees him at her friends wedding. We get a old lover of Bones that appear and tries to scare of Cat but shes not going to make that mistake twice. Plenty of wittiness as usual from Frost.

I liked this book. The down side is you must read the first book to make total sense of this one. Bones and Cat have a rocky relationship but he has finally found her again and doesnt intent to let her go. Theres a lot of action and twist in this installment of the night huntress series.

First book was great, second book was even better. I love Cat. I love Bones. And I love the way they love each other. This book has very graphic sex scenes...just a heads up. I love this author! She is so TWISTED! Seriously though, its a great series. It has a very engrossing story. Its just as addicting as Twilight, only directed towards a much more mature audience. Keep an open mind, folks. Its hardcore.

With the first book it took a little bit of time before the author hit her stride and took off with her story. This time I was hooked right from the beginning. I could not put this down. I can't wait for third and a fourth and a......... Wonderful way to spend the afternoon in the sun! A great escape from the normal world. Highly recommended.

I like characters I can root for, and I'm always hoping for stronger women who can handle dealing with messy lives. Frost definitely delivers with a female lead who kicks ***. At times, the dialogue was a little sappy for my tastes, but overall, it kept me engaged. No long, boring descriptions in this book - you learn about things from people talking, so things move along. Overall, an enjoyable read.

This is one of those books that is just wicked. I loved everything about Bones and Cat, Jeaniene threw down when she wrote this book. It is funny,
hot with action going left and right I hated finishing it. Keep up the wonderful job of this series I just loved everyone don't get much better than this.

With so many reviews already, I'll just add to the overall rating and add a few comments.
Thus far, this series has been the best in the genre. I think the reason is that, finally, we have a heroine that can even come close to competing with the big boys as a hard hitter.

I can't believe so many years went by since her leaving! That was kind of shocking. I can't stand Tate. I have a terrible feeling he's eventually going to come between Bones and Cat.

The other vampire books are nothing compared to this one from Ms. Frost. The characters are all so real and the plot is not overdone. The mixture of adventure, mystery, suspense and love story made it all the while worthy of the time spent for reading it.

One Foot in The Grave was exactly where I wanted to see the story line go. Once again Jeaniene Frost sucks you straight into the world of Cat and Bones. If I say too much I am afraid I might ruin the book for others. I just have to say, if Halfway to the Grave left you with any feelings of injustice for Cat and/or Bones, One Foot in the Grave will clear all that up and put a smile on your face!

I didnt read the first book in this series. I probably should have, though, but I didnt. The back cover doesnt do it justice. It gives you a vague sense of whats supposed to happen, but there is alot more to the story than what it actually says. This girl is the Red Reaper...the one and only bogeyman of the undead. Its a great story and I recommend it to anyone interested in this type of genre.

I got this book from my sister. I didn't know it was a follow-up so I am reviewing it based on this alone. The main character, Cat, is a bitch. I don't like her and therefore, don't really care what happens to her. She just treats people like s***. Besides her character. The plot itself is fast and hard to follow. I'd like to see more description; I find myself reading the same page over and over just to "get it". I haven't decided whether I am going to finish it or give it back to my sister. I'm glad I didn't spend money on this disappointing read.

It was Bloody Brillant!! ...and I mean that literally!
While the first book was really good, I liked this one even better.
I don't want to give anything away, but I liked the way her past,(Bones) and her new life,(FBI team) came together. I thought it was really cool, especially the end.
It's an excellent book- five stars!
I can't recommend it enough!

In Manhasset, Virginia, FBI Special Agent Catrina "Red Reaper" Arthur puts a knife into the heart of vampire Liam Flannery; one twist and he will be gone forever. However she recognizes him as Ian a friend of Bones, who she still loves. For Bones, she lets him go and thinks back to her hometown in Ohio where she and her lover Bones the vampire killed the governor for selling girls to vampires; her grandparents died in the slaughter and she was considered a mass murderer. Don her current boss knew she was a half breed and placed her on his special top secret team to eliminate vampires. She left Bones a goodbye note.
Don informs the team of a graphic murder in the Ohio house that belonged to Cat's grandparents; a note left behind states: "Here Kitty Kitty". Someone knows of Cat. She and her team travel to Licking Falls to look at the crime scene. One corpse contains limestone from a nearby cave, which leads Cat to believe Bones is involved. She enters the cave alone. Seven vampires greet her with one explaining the bounty on the Red Reaper. They bring her beloved to her, but it is not Bones. Instead it is a creep she dated once as a teen. She kills the vampires, but not before a member of her team dies.
At her friend's wedding Cat and Bones meet for the first time since she disappeared four years ago. She explains why she left and he tells her Ian wants her, but will not attack her; he will go after her loved ones. He promises to help her as he still loves her.
This is an action packed second chance at love romantic fantasy stars a solid lead couple and a strong support cast especially her team. The key though somewhat comic book in nature is that the government agency seems genuine. Although the good guys win each encounter too easily, readers will enjoy this exciting sequel to HALFWAY TO THE GRAVE.

As an avid reader and writer of both erotica and romance, I am so grateful to Ms. Frost for the incredibly hot scenes she writes. The interplay between Bones and Cat in the bedroom is some of the best I've read. I absolutely love that she introduced Cat to "the backdoor" in this mainstream urban fantasy. I wanted to say that I absolutely loved the first book in this new series, Halfway to the Grave and I was eagerly anticipating this next one in the Night Huntress Series. I very quickly realized that it was not what I had been hoping for.
In the book, One Foot in the Grave, four years have gone by since Cat Crawfield last saw Bones, her former lover. He quickly reenters the picture and helps her out like he did in the previous book. As a reader I did not feel like any time has gone by and the characters certainly don't act like their separation, due to Cat's well-meaning attempt to protect the people she loves, has been much of a trial at all for either of them. I was extremely disappointed when Bones meets up with Cat again and has almost no hard feelings for the way she ran and hid from him for over four years. It felt completely anticlimactic and I was left wondering why the author would even bother setting up this separation in the last book only to be so quickly resolved in this one.
I had other issues with this book, one was this general sense of choppiness in the storyline but also with the characters. We're quickly introduced to her best friend Denise who we do not really see too much of and really is only used as a way for Cat and Bones to coincidentally meet again when they both attend Denise's wedding. In the beginning a member of Cat's team dies and yes, we've been told they've known each other for four years, but I really couldn't have cared less. I especially did not like the attempt at an emotional ending when they brought him back to life as a ghoul because I kept thinking, who is this character and why should I care?!
Having said all that I am not giving up on the author. I think this was a transitional book in the series and hopefully the next one will have better timing and character development.

I actually thought a teenager had written these books because they were so adolescent. Cat is very childish, bordering on unlikeable which isn't a good idea when you want the audience to root for her. The sex is graphic and doesn't add to the story much - and, I have to say the 'bottom sex' not a good idea, this really shows the age of the author cos no woman over 30 pretends that it's fun or turns them on.
Daddy dearest wants to kill her, after reading all the whining, I'm fully on his side. Then we have Tate lusting after her, which gets old really really quickly, but it's dragged on and on - like a child - not attractive. Not a keeper, not a brilliant book. This author will amuse teenagers until they come across better authors eg, Kresley Cole - Superb, every book a keeper. Gena Showalter - very good, JR Ward - very good.

Please RateBook 2), One Foot in the Grave (Night Huntress
The Night Huntress series is toeing the line of way too much sexuality for me personally, but I think the plots are great and will keep reading for the cleverness of the writing. Much like the Black Dagger Brotherhood, these books are not for the easily offended.
Chapter 32 went too far. I know I'm probably all alone in that thinking, but that's how I feel. There was more emotion for me in the tenderness of Francine Rivers' Redeeming Love (some of the best Christian fiction ever written, in my opinion) than the extremely descriptive scene in chapter 32.
It's funny that earlier today I was thinking of going back to the Anita Blake series---I stopped after Guilty Pleasures due to ghosts and zombie/corpse reanimating squeamishness---when at the end of this book we witness a corpse three months dead transformed into a ghoul (which seems awfully similar to a zombie to me). If this continues I may be done in...
Just One Gripe:
Besides my embarrassment over chapter 32, my main gripe is the continued use of "plasma bags" to nourish vampires. Plamsa is not the same as blood---it is the yellow liquid component of blood (it looks like cream soda) in which red blood cells are suspended. So, if a vampire needs blood to survive, plasma alone would not be enough. I believe Frost should call them "blood bags" or even "packed red blood cell bags." Look it up on Wikipedia if you don't believe me. FYI, I know this from working in a hospital.
The Best Thing About This Book:
I like the plot and the fast pace of this series.
