The book details inappropriate explicit sexual references that kids below 8th Grade should not read. Topics such as boys enjoying voyeurism, imagining a boy's erection, thongs, tampoons, etc. are definitely something that a parent should explain differently rather than graphic perspectives from a peer. These are not the values that we should impart to our youth.

This book tells the tales of what being twelve years-old is really like, and all the pressure that comes with it. (I would know this because I am twelve. ) I usually do not like books, but I could not put this one down

This book needs a warning label. Of course everyone is entitled to their opinion, but for those who have conservative values, please beware. I personally think that a book that is geared toward 5th - 6th graders should not be speaking of boys having erections and hard ons. Please protect your daughters (and sons) and stay away from this book and other ones from this author.

My 12 year old daughter just brought home this book from the library and I am mortified that I let her read it!!! I am usually really careful about what she reads. I saw this was a New York Times Bestseller. Seeing that, I figured that it should be fine. Well, she brought it to me and pointed out how they explained, IN DETAIL, what an erection is!!! :( I'm sorry, but that has NO place in a book geared for 12 year old girls!!! Aside from that part and another part describing how to place tampons, the book seemed to be well written. :( I am so sad that the author felt the need to put completely inappropriate material in a book that she knows that innocent kids are going to read! I wish she hadn't included those parts. She seems to be a good author, but this was just not appropriate in my opinion.

This book is all about the new changes Winnie goes through, middle school, and her new best friends. This is a great book and I hope you read it. After all, Winnie is 12 now, so who knows what could happen?

This book deceptively makes you think it is for kids 10-12 years of age, but when my daughter asked me to clarify what she was reading- I was shocked!!
It explains in detail several inappropriate and vulgar things, having to do with a boy's sexuality. It is totally unacceptable material for this age group, and I'm shocked that there isn't a warning for parents. This book should be titled "Fifteen" for it is definitely not for anyone younger than that--do not buy this book, which anyway my daughter said was BORING!

Lauren Myracle's books are totally inappropriate for girls under 15 or 16. My 5th grade daughter just read Twelve (it is recommended for girls 10 and up). It contains way to many references to topics that are not appropriate for upper elementary, or even middle school aged children including a graphic explanation of "hard ons" and references to "kids having sex." It also included alot of information about periods and tampons that really scared her. I was shocked when she brought the book to me asking for explanations. I should have been more careful. My sister in law had the same complete shock this summer when her 13 year old read another Lauren Myracle book L8rG8r that had passages too graphic to repeat on this forum. I should have paid closer attention then to the author's name so I would have known that Lauren Myracle's books are completely inappropriate for this age group. There should be a warning for parents on the cover of the book so they can make informed decisions about what is and is not appropriate for their children.

My daughter is 11 and this book is TOTALLY inappropriate for an 11 year old. This should be read by a 15 or 16 year old! There is talk about sex, erections and periods, and totally inappropriate content. Don't buy this book unless you don't care!

I liked this book because it is realistic fiction and that is my favorite genra. Also the things that happened in this book can happen to anyone and the characters seem like real kids not just story characters.

This book had parts that are totally inappropriate for any girl younger than 15. It explaines male erections in detail, and discusses kids having sex like its no big deal. If you are a parent who cares about what your young daughter is exposed to, do NOT buy this book!
