A riveting story from beginning to end. I couldn't believe how much Irene went through in her young life and what a wonderful person she was. I would recommend this book to anyone - such an incredible life.

This book is completely captivating. It shares a deeply personal story of Irene's experience during the holocaust, her personal sorrows, fears, and triumphs. It is a story of true heroism in the face of violence and abuse. Some descriptions of her experiences are difficult to read--there are so many and they are heart-breaking. The words cut into the reader's soul and are unforgettable witness to the evil in this world. But for those seeking confirmation of the great good in the world, this book can answer. Irene can answer. I am grateful for the gift this book has given me. As a student of psychology, as a woman, and as a member of the human race, this book has changed my life.

I enjoyed reading this book as I am always interested in learning more about those who lived through and survived the Holocaust. It was a true story written by a survivor which made the book even better. I would recommend this book to others also interested in this period in history. Well written

A great book and beautifully written. It is poignant with emotion and will move you. Descriptions of the love between her, her family, and those she protected from the Germans will touch you to the core. Many times I had to stop reading just to weep. I could not stop the emotion. A must read for everyone who needs to refresh their tired spirits. What are my troubles as compared with hers. She struggled against such evil for no reason other than to save lives.

A good account of a young girls struggle with wartime occupation and her efforts to not only survive, but to help others from "the Jewish solution". I did however have a feel there was a deeper story with more emotion that did not show thru, yet recognize that some of the terrible things experienced in war time are not easy to put to word. All in all, deserving of four to five stars.

Amazing doesn't depict this book...it is more than that! It is almost like a unbelievable nightmare what this gal had to go through. She was a total survivor, and took unbelievable risks to save some of her Jewish friends. God bless her!

I had the good fortune of hearing Irene Opdyke give a talk many years ago. I shall never forget her. What she did for the Jewish people during the Holocaust was extraordinary. It is nothing short of miraculous that she herself survived. I also had the pleasure of hearing her daughter speak recently. I recommend this book to everybody.

Amazing story. I was deeply, deeply moved by the maturity and moral courage of this teenage girl. After finishing the book I immediately went on You Tube to see her speaking in person and that was also a profound experience. People like Irene renew our faith in people and inspire us to be better human beings ourselves.
