I read the available portion on my Kindle the day Navarro's Promise was released, and was highly disappointed. I have read every Breed book, and agree with others that the quality of the stories has been in a continuous decline (for me starting with Lion's Heat). I absolutely love the Wolf Breeds most of all, but several things were missing in this book for me (in addition to the 10 pages LOL): 1) No 'breakthrough' scene for the mates. Best examples I can think of are the bathtub scene in Jacob's Faith and the shower scene at the cabin in Elizabeth's Wolf...those moments of true emotional bonding/intimacy that I never really felt with these characters. I anticipate that more than the sex scenes because they are so repetitive from book to book. 2) In Styx's Storm it is mentioned that Navarro was injured and suffered lingering disabilities, however that was never mentioned in this book. I was really looking forward to exploring that element for the character. 3) No 'what's next' for the mates. Do we assume that they will become part of the community at Haven? Live independently like Seth and Dawn? 4) Won't rehash the pitiful lack of editing, but it appears to be getting worse. I too have been wondering if this is a ghost writer; if so, PLEASE STOP!!! I pray Lawe, the new Nautis, and the Wounded Hearts, as well as the others, get better than this because Jordan Malone and Navarro got screwed.

I love the breeds, but lately the stories are becoming a little repetitive and full of the same dramas. I would like to read one which has a little more fun. But as I said I love the breeds, but it would be good to have one story where the romance includes humor.
Rule Breaker (Breed Book 29) :: Elizabeth's Wolf (Wolf Breeds) :: Dawn's Awakening (Breed Book 14) :: The Perfect You: A Blueprint for Identity :: Coyote's Mate (Breed Book 18)

I have read every book in this series. Recently, the books have been barely tolerable. While in spots, I found it a bit confusing...overall, I liked THIS one.

pros: Oh my this heroine is not even in the same league as poor Styx's mate. I liked the fire and confidence of this one. I enjoyed the new plot lines and potential by introducing the Native American ancestry. I am excited about the potential of prequel material with Honor Roberts story (AKA Liza, I think...since Johan is able to smell family ties). It was nice to hear an update about some of the non alpha couples, especially Dog (who everyone believes is Cassie's mate). I was intrigued about how the novella in Tied with a Bow fit into this storyline. It was a breath of fresh air to focus on a plot line instead of constant sex. Not that reading hot sex is bad, but without a plot, frankly, it is mild porn.

cons: you know there had to be some of these with only a 3 star...
the plot twisted a bit too much and droned on to no conclusion. I can see leaving threads open for new stories...it IS a series after all. However, as one reviewer stated, I feel as if this is part one only. It is possible to bring one part of a story to conclusion, while leaving enough unresolved to entice readers to continue reading the series, that didn't happen here. The prologue was a very helpful insight to Lawe's personality, though it fell a bit short. This concept was used to explain his motives to keep her safe, but this could have been used much more in depth. Diane's past was only explained in brief passages and I felt this could have woven in with Lawe's difficult past to bond them more. It was mentioned, but I had hoped it could be explored more in depth. The plot was there, but a bit confusing. I am OK with subtle, but it seems some important facts were skimmed over or left out. On this point I also agree with another reviewer, it seemed as if I missed a book or novella somewhere, though I am sure I didn't.

My last point is continuity...this series has a few issues, though mostly easy to overlook due to publisher changes, etc...some stand out. In the last books, we are told Gideon had a mate who betrayed other breeds to the council, all but him were killed and this was his motivation...he was dead inside and did not care if he killed mates. NOW, he was brutally tortured, escaped only to be recaptured and treated even more brutally, then escaped again. He is out for revenge on scientists? the person who saved him? Am I confused, are these two different breeds and separate story lines? He now SAVES mates? He knows Malachai? How, when? What does he owe Malachai? What the heck is the issue with Amber and the children? That was a silly point to bring up at the end of a story. The beginning with a few resolutions or theories would have been better.

Of the last three, I enjoyed this the most. Frankly, (aside from Elizabeth's wolf) I believe her novellas are the better reads...but this is entertaining and has potential for new story lines. As long as we don't get too carried away on arcs and come back to the fav's once and a while.

This is my favorite Lora Leigh book yet! The story was very endearing, emotionally charged, and contained just the right amount of eroticism. I have read all the books in the series, but I think the main characters of this novel were the most developed of all the books. Once I started reading the book I couldn't put it down, and even when I finished reading it, I didn't want it to end. This is a great read.

After reading Lora Leigh's book, "Maverick", I wanted another military type book to read. I loved Wild Card and read it within just a few days - you felt attached to the characters and could envision the scenes! It was an exciting read with great twists and turns throughout the book.
