I purchased the book for my youngest granddaughters. They are 2 and 6. They were totally thrilled and entertained by the illustrations as well as the words. I feel the book will be a favorite for many years to come.

Julia Donaldson has done it again!!! The genius who brought us The Gruffalo shows that she has many wonderful tales to tell. Stick Man is the best picture book I have read this year. Buy it!!!!! I've used it with children of all ages and they love it!

This is an excellent non-religious holiday book for younger children. We discovered this at a used bookstore "story time" where the grandkids used empty toilet paper rolls and pipe cleaners to make their own stick men after listening to the story.

This was enjoyable, but not nearly as good as most of Donaldson and Scheffler's many other efforts, the best of which include: The Gruffalo 10th Anniversary Edition,Room on the Broom,The Snail and the Whale ,The Spiffiest Giant in Town, and A Squash and a Squeeze. (Of these, the latter is probably my favorite.) I was surprised to see Santa Claus make an appearance in this book -- perhaps it would not be the best choice for kids/families that don't celebrate Christmas. If this is your first experience with Donaldson and Scheffler, please try some of their other titles!

What a cute story! Stick man awakes early and sets out for a jog and before he knew it, he was part of a dog's game. Stick man wants to go home to his tree where his Lady Love and his stick children three awaits but now his life has become a journey. So what can you do with a stick? As you read along in this fantastic children's story, you follow along in Stick Man's adventure as he moves from one scene to another as animals and individuals use Stick Man in their life. Whether for fun or for survival, Stick Man is helpful in many situations. After all, he is a stick. All the while, Stick Man chants, "I'm Stick Man, I'm Stick Man, I'M STICK MAN, that's me, And I long to be back in the family tree."

I enjoyed that the story is told in rhyme and I was surprised at the stories length. As I read about Stick Man adventure, I realized just how many things are done with sticks. The illustrations are bright and colorful and the font was bold. I liked the energy within the story as Stick Man drifted throughout his ordeal hoping to be reunited with his family. I will definitely be picking up a copy of this book after I return this to the library- I think children will love it.

I came across this book while looking for a craft. I volunteer at the library and we do an outreach program with a daycare center. I was looking at stick people crafts. I think reading this book and having children create stick people out of sticks, glue, googly eyes, and scraps of material will be a hit.

A great book for youngsters to read during winter/X'mas time, STICK MAN from the artists of ROOM ON THE BOOM offers another unique story about the family tree dad who is content with his beautiful Stick Lady Love and stick children three, is one day chased away from home by a dog and hurls into worlds of danger. No one can see he is "a stick man" that is needed and loved by a family - the girl throws him into the river, the swan weaves him into nest, the man makes him a sandcastle flag, the children makes him into a pen, a bow and a boomerang. Poor stick man has suffered and loses his hope of returning home and as he finally gets picked up as a stick to be burned for the fireplace, only a miracle can save him. And miracle does happen on Christmas night! The Stick Man is in the right place to save the "Stuck Man"(the gift-delivering Santa stuck inside the chimney). Carrying home by a grateful Santa for his family reunion, this book ends with a heartwarming note that may teach children to use their imagination and extend their compassion and love to be gentle to all living things for even a twig may belong to a family. The readers will have fun looking at the stick family holding hands, carrying their baby for a picnic and enjoy quality playtime together just like all of us.

I love reading this book to my son around Christmas time. To the negative reviews about this book being bad because the main character is an inanimate object and that teaches kids that sticks have feelings... It's called imagination people! Personally, I love this book and love reading it to my son, age two. I think that it's an adorable and creative story that has a very happy ending. The Stick Man gets lost and carried far from home via things that you do with sticks, gather wood, float in a river, fetch with a dog. Eventually, Stick Man makes his way home with the help of Santa and is greated by his stick kids and stick lady love. I think it's great!

I love reading Julia Donaldson books to my daughter. They have such a nice rhythm. It is also a lot of fun to try to find the characters from her other books in these books (Can you spot to graffalo and the cat?). I've read it so many times that I have my own theory on what really happens to "stick man". Spoiler alert - I think he actually dies in the fireplace and the whole "santa" part is wishful thinking. Of course I'm not telling my daughter or any child this version. We read this book even when it isn't Christmas.

As a grownup I was finding this book pretty funny and hilarious. My son and daughter (6 & 4) didn't find it as funny. They saw it as more of a sad book. The story is funny and has some repetitive phrases which is nice because the kids could say them along with me. The illustrations were great. I enjoyed the book but may be better for a little older age group since my preschool and kindergartener did not grasp it. A good read though!

Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler have done it again with this wonderful tale of the perils of Stick Man! Both you and your child will love Stick Man's humorous adventure in the world and his eventual safe return to his wife and family. This is a great book as we head towards Christmas since it features Santa (aka Stuck Man) stuck in a chimney. If you enjoyed other books by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler, such as The Gruffalo, The Gruffalo's Child, or Room On The Broom, then this one is for you.

This is a heart warming book about a stick, named Stick Man who goes on an adventure accidentally. The story starts out with Stick Man going for a jog, and then he gets picked up by a dog. The story continues with Stick Man traveling from place to place trying to return to his family.

This is a rhyming story that would be great read aloud in a classroom. Children will enjoy chiming in on the repetitive bits.

We have a full collection of Julia Donaldson books and every new one is added to the collection - and even though my son sort of have outgrown some of these they are still old time favorites which are brought out time and time again and he often reads them himself now that he no longer needs to have them read out to him - a truly great book

Stick man gets seperated from his Stick family via all the things you might see a stick involved in or you'd do with a stick (fetch with a dog; drop in a stream with other sticks for a race, etc). I ordered this thru our Schoolastic account and can't recall what the description said that made me think "Oooo! this will be fun". Nope. Boring and uninteresting....nice that Stick Man ends up on a pile of wood to go into a fireplace (Uh-oh Stick Man fell asleep on a pile of wood! What's going to happen to him?!) but wakes up to hear that Santa's stuck in the chimney. Stick Man lends a hand and as a result finally gets back to his own family. So, I guess the moral is to do good deeds and you'll be rewarded. But still, very unimaginative. I'd suggest that this book might be exciting to a toddler/early pre-school, but really dull to a kindergartener. Not a terrible book, but there's much better out there that would be more of a hit than this. Buy if you simply LOVE sticks.

What a stupid and depressing story. I loved the gruffalo books and room on the broom but this just sounded like the author plugged random objects into her typical rhyming formula to try and meet a book quota. He's missing from his family for most of the year and nearly gets burned to death? Awful.

This book was one of my few disappointments this year. The illustrations are okay, the story is okay, but it was not great. The story is that of a Stick man who gets chased by a dog, then thrown in a river. All he wants is to return home to his family.

Stick man is mistreated and separated from his family the whole story and is only rescued after almost being burned alive. And then he is saved by Santa? Thanks but no thanks. There are way better messages and books out there.

Stick Man is a huge disappointment. Three disturbing themes are within this story. The first mistake is to portray a stick as a living thing. It is bizarre to read serious adult reviews about being nurturing to a stick. Second mistake demonstrates a parent figure giving up on life!?!! Third mistake is having Santa find and return a missing person. What is the author's purpose? I mistakenly purchased the book thinking it would be a comical variation of the gingerbread man. Instead I'm worrying about children in families with a suicide history and hoping Santa will return a lost loved one.
