Terrific! A real science fiction action adventure first contact human interest story which manages to combine all the ingredients into a thoroughly satisfying whole. A strong-yet-vulnerable protagonist and good scary aliens. What's not to like?

A story with some unique and sometimes annoying characters. But, very well defined and probably u have run into these types at work. I enjoyed the story enough to wish that the tale went on for a few more chapters.

Before purchasing a book, I do read a sampling of reviews from all categories. I take low ratings seriously if they have merit. At the risk of sounding condescending, low ratings for this book are a reflection of the reviewer's limitations, not the book itself.

I really enjoyed this book. I look forward to reading the already extensive body of work by this author. I first read Dig by him and really enjoyed that book. This was a total departure, right off the planet! The characters we needed to know we're well done, the place was described nice enough to picture it. I enjoyed it enough to read through it rather quickly. The only problem I had, without giving anything away I hope, was the latter part that took place on the planet of the teams reason for being in space to begin with. Nothing about it I could say for sure, maybe it seemed a tad too long. I was annoyed with the inhabitants of the planet. Not to say it wasn't very interesting, kudos to the author's imagination.
Read it, you'll like it and if new to the author there is much more to read.

I find it really difficult to write book reviews without mentioning points of the plot that new readers probably don't want to know so this will be light on actual details...

The characters are great. Actual people instead of "playing pieces" being moved around in a story. Their relationships add depth and gravity to the story. The imagination used in describing their surroundings is top-notch. The otherworldly feel is right up there with the "Mars" series by Edgar Rice Burroughs - but with a much better story behind it. :-)

Short version... If it has "by Michael Siemsen" on it, just buy it. You'll be glad you did.

Had a hard time putting it down. Really enjoyed the character development. I could sympathize with the challenges each faced and their willingness to do what was necessary for the "family ". Just really enjoyed it

Each book Michael Siemsen has written in his fledgling career in writing fiction is a masterful piece of work. Siemsen's books alone make me grateful for purchasing my Kindle & exploring the the store Kindle bookstore. I eagerly await for Mr. Siemsen's next book!!!

Surprisingly original take on a venerable SFO theme, the earthers marooned on an alien shore. The principle characters are well rendered, but many of the rest are just silhouettes. Good aliens though. Mainly a survival story. There are a few holes in the plot- why does one person destroy the spaceship? Alien biology often confused and hard to visualize. But still far above the run of the mill.

Appalled and enthralled by the planet, the indigenous lifeforms.
Mesmerized by the futuristic communication gadgets, the advanced sociological norms and styles of the crew.
Enjoyed the rollicking, fast-paced story-line, but lost some sleep when I couldn't put the book down.
This is science-y and fiction-y all in one.

While it was technically well-written, I didn't really enjoy this book as much as I wanted to. Firstly it was't the book the blurb hinted at -- I can't really say more about it than that without spoilers, but I was disappointed that I didn't get to see what I thought I was going to get to see. There's a tiny bit of it but by that time we're 90% through the book and it gets yanked out of sight within just a few pages. Secondly, I didn't really care much for any of the characters, and all of them had qualities I actively disliked. People have flaws, true, and good characters have flaws .. but man, these were capital-f character-defining Flaws. If there were a sequel, I'd be tempted to peek just to see if any of what was missing in this one was addressed, but ... I wouldn't trust the blurb.

I had a hard time understanding what was going on at the beginning, but I soon caught on. It was a little tough to keep track of the jumps, but I was able to follow the plot.

I usually just quit reading a book when they introduce homosexuality, as I personally find it revolting. But I kept on reading as the author didn't try to shove it down my throat. Still, it was an unnecessary distraction.
