I adore all the Pern books, the Crystal Singer books, the Rowan books, the Freedom books, and... know I'm forgetting something. But this book, with its powerful queen rider in the prime of her life, with grown offspring, entering into a forbidden fling with a Holder, on the cusp of an epidemic that could wipe out the population of the entire planet, really hooks me.

Wonderful book! I like the authors ability to keep turning out fresh new plots with each book, no easy task when a series has gotten SO big. a delightful combination of courage, devotion, and tragedy, but we expect nothing less from the author. a very powerful book, you won't be able to put it down, and it really, really brings out the deepest parts of the human soul.

I got this book in high school, after reading other books in the Dragonriders of Pern series and hearing about Moreta through those characters. Moreta's story did not disappoint; she's strong without being overbearing or Mary Sue-ish. I was in tears at the bitter-sweet ending. I read this book until the cover was in tatters, and I still keep it in a special place on my bookshelf.

Finally the song is explained. Moreta is the seventh of the Dragonriders of Pern series and by far the most moving. The story is engaging and a quick read. It is well worth the time put into it, not only for the satisfying feeling that comes with the understanding of the Pern saga, but for the chance to see Pern as it was. A fabulous book that I'd recommend for any dragonlover or fantasy enthusiast.

Anne McCaffrey is the quintessential writer of fantasy books pertaining to dragons. These books are always wonderful, well written, and perfectly characterized. All of her series are great but the ones that take place on Pern are the best of all.

This book is about Weyrs and Holds catching a mysterious plague while other self-contained holds aren't getting the slightest bit ill, Moreta a Weyr woman tries find the cause of this plague, and is sent on a fantastic voyage to try and defeat the plague.

The Pern series of books from Anne McCaffery are great. Better if you read them in order, (look online at her website for recommendations). This is futuristic science fiction, but if you liked Aregon, you would probably like this series too

Oh goodness. I love the Dragonrider of Pern series, but this was one of the best. One thing bugged me though, I HATED the sad ending, ans I hate sad books. But other than that, i am fine, in fact, I LOVE IT!

One of my favorites in the Dragonrider of Pern Series (I love them all, though). The heart and courage of Moreta and Orlith are inspiring. It's interesting to see the devastation that a common ailment today could cause on an unaccustomed population and what it drives people - and dragons - to do.

Moreta is supposed to be some sort of mythological figure in Pern history, of some sort. She is the rider of a queen dragon, and while at a festival she discovers the outbreak of a disease, along with some others.
Some of her fellows take the ostrich approach to the situation, and her queen is pregnant, so to try and get the cure to areas ahead of the disease wave she has to borrow someone else's lizard.

The author, Anne McCaffrey, shows her true power of writing in this tale of our beloved Pern. Well developed characters and the amazing set of circumstances make this book unforgettable. I believe that everyone needs to read this book at least once.

Anne McCaffrey has outdone herself with this book and she herself should get at least four or five stars for just being one of the greatest fantasy writers of all time. I loved the book Moreta; Draognlady of Pern. The way that it deals with everday life and the inevitability of such thing as "timming it." The secret love that blosomed between her and Alesson could never have been any other way and it is truely dear to all those who wish something like that would happen to them. BRAVO!
