Witch family owns a donut shop, and the donuts have no calories! Well that sounds good. Friend finds out her boyfriend is cheating on her at a party and they break up. She then becomes the lead suspect in his murder. That's always a good plot. But... the book was hard to read, wooden, poorly edited, and made being a witch boring.

The good part. I'm sure the writer can get better, smoother, more interesting. It just will take classes and practice and joining a writing group. I realize there are 3 more books already in this series and maybe they're better.

Added note: San Francisco is not called San Fran by people who live in Northern California, not even in Southern California, any more than Los Angeles is called Los Ange. You don't often get cloudless night skys where you can see the stars on the coast of Northern California, there is frequently fog and cloud cover.

Inexperienced writer makes a good try, but it is hard to read her work because of the obvious lack of understanding of writing norms. Info dumping is the most obvious flaw, followed by head hopping. A good writing course would put her on the right track. Pity she has three books to rewrite now.

Although horror/PA books are my usual favorites, I'm developing a nice liking for cozies! Especially the ones with witches or ghosts :)

Meg Walton is a witch living in Enchanted Bay, although the town doesn't know. A long-lost crush returns to Enchanted Bay, Connor, and he's working for the Enchanted Bay PD. He believes one of Meg's friends is responsible for a recent murder, so Meg's on a mission to prove him wrong. With a little witchy goodness added!

It's not long but packed full of fun and entertainment, I enjoyed the listen, and would definitely listen to more from the author, and narrator! :)

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
How to Hang a Witch :: Murder Of A Werewolf (A Brimstone Witch Mystery Book 1) :: and The Magic Tree (A Fated Fantasy Quest Adventure Book 1) :: A Witch Before Dying (Wicked Witches of the Midwest Book 11) :: and Hysteria in 1692 Salem - The Witches

I have read several of this authors books and have fallen in love with the style of her work. She writes at a comfortable pace and yet there is an urgency in the storyline that catches you off guard. I can't put them down. They have a quirky way that you enjoy reading with a very wide range of characters and Megs secrets are always at the top. Being a witch that has a sense of sleuthing ingrained in her makes for a fun read. She loves her regular job, running a donut shop with her mother does keep her busy but when her friends need help she is off and running. I just can't help loving her method of solving these cases and yet at the same time protecting her secret of being a witch. Great read! I received this from the author for an honest review.

My review is based on the audiobook.
Overall this was an okay story - it was a tad to predictable for my liking. I think because it is on the shorter side it is lacking in character and story development. I would have liked more magic and mystery. The way the main character takes it upon herself to investigate the murder is a bit of a stretch - just because someone watches alot of detective shows does not make then a detective. The narrator did a great job bringing the story and characters to life

Meg Walton ran the Enchanted Donuts Shop with her mother Beth. Meg, her mother and her dead grandmother Penelope who lives on in the body of cat, were real-life spell-casting witches. Beth makes Meg promise not to let anyone know they are witches. Meg best friend Lisa McGraw was in a relationship with Jack Jensen owner of a fitness club. On the night of a launch party for a new product Jack got into fights with several
people. Lisa found out that Jack was having affair with one of the married club members When Jack is found dead the next morning Lisa is one of the main suspects. Meg with use any means to prove Lisa is innocent even if she has to use witchcraft. The new homicide detective was Meg’s old boyfriend. This is a great first story of the series. Pickup a copy and enjoy.

I think another reviewer said it well. It's wooden. She must have paid for reviews like many self-published authors are doing. As there is no way people could rate this higher than 1 and be sane. Reading this was like watching paint dry. I am pretty sure i have seen five year olds write better than this. The plot was dumb. Murder happens, girl finds out, avoids the police and does her own thing, then suddenly figures it out when her cat tells her. Reminds me of Amanda's witch books which are horrendous too. Please.... I won't be reading the next book. There are much better reads out there.

This reads like the first episode of a TV serial. We learn a little bit about the main characters (Meg, her mother Beth, her grandmother as a cat, and Connor). The background (town, donut shop, and a few other places) are very sketchy. I did not get much on which to build a visual image.

The detective plot is okay. There was one minor whole, but overall it led to a logical conclusion.

The dialog between Meg and Connor seems stilted.

I hope this improves in the next book.

Disclaimer: I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This book was truly terrible. No flow, weak characters, the praise for a simple catch of a tongue slip was ridiculous. Will not read more books by this author and won't recommend them either.

Go for Juliette Harper or Amanda M Lee for fun reads.

Ms. Morgan please take a writing class.

I was thoroughly entertained while reading this cozy mystery about Meg and the witches in her family including mother Beth and dead but soul now in pet cat Grandma Penelope. This is a very light hearted read that I finished in just a few hours. It's very easy to read with a steady pace to the story while Meg investigates the murder of her friend Lisa's boyfriend. She stumbles into questioning each suspect while using magic spells when necessary to achieve her purpose. She keeps running up against her long ago love, Connor, who is the investigation police detective. It's safe to say that Meg steals the show when hunting down the murderer.

I received this book free for an honest review. I enjoyed this book, love cozy mysteries but this one has a fun twist, the character is a witch who lives with her grandmother who passed away but her soul was moved into a cat before she passed away, now her grandmother is enjoying life as a cat and Meg has to try to solve a murder case because her best friend is a suspect. Very enjoyable book and I love the characters. Can't go wrong reading this book, I couldn't put it down.

This is a very enjoyable cosy mystery . I liked the main character, who is not only a proprietor of a donut shop, but a witch in a small town. The mystery is well written, with characters you fell as if you know. The mystery part is interest- catching & the end surprised and pleased me. I would recommend it to anyone who likes a little witchery in their mystery novels.

I would love to see longer plot, more fleshed out characters. Good beginning. I understand that the author is expected to put out a book every 3 months. This puts a burden on the author. However, she has talent which should be developed. The plots are good, the characters good. Just need a book that is more tham 3 hours of reading. Highly recommended.

A very middle of the scale writer....meaning simplistic and just okay. I read this because at the time, I hadn't found anything else interesting.

Much, much better books out there.

Also really tired of authors using the same cartoonish covers.

Everyone is using these.

I loved this cozy mystery. It had charm, murder, mystery, some spells and a bit of romance. The only reason I gave four stars is because there were several grammatical and spelling errors. It obviously wasn't proofed well. I liked the plot though and the story. Can't wait to read the next one.

I found this to be an enjoyable read. While simple in plot and some what predictable, it was a nice read. Gotta say though, there were many grammar errors. They were simple enough to overlook but they were there. All in all, worth the 99cents. I will read the others in the series.

Can't wait for next book. Quick, funny, and intriguing read. A heredity witch whom owns a donut shop turns sleuthing and solves her first murder to prove her friend innocent with help of magic. On the side her old boyfriend, a detective, comes back to town and things heat up for them.

Number one in a new series of "cozy mysteries" with a magical twist as our heroine uses just a touch of magic along with her interview skills to find the killer ... will she survive or will she push too hard and wind up alongside the slimeball who broke her best friend's heart?

Enjoyed reading this new cozy mystery. Meg is a witch and the family doesn't want her using her magic to find out who killed Jack. She proceeds to question all the suspects and figures out who did it. Light hearted reading and would like to see more from these characters.

I just finished my first "cozy" mystery, and it was a fun read. I got it for free, but it's worth twice the $0.99 price. Usually the "amateur investigator" is just a (whatever), but this one is also a real witch. This is a good, quick, read for when you want a quick entertaining book. I look forward to her getting better as an author, and learning to paint word pictures even better. Every author gets better as their career progresses, but not all start off so well. I'm looking forward to "Ax to Grind," the follow up book.
What's even better, is it's a _clean_ (G rated) budding romance novel. I cared about both the Main Character (a donut baking Witch) and the detective (love interest, with a history). If this is what a "cozy" is, I want to read more of them.

I enjoyed this tale of murder, a glimpse of romance with an old love interest returning to town. Plenthy of suspects and a witch. Just long enough for a quick, enjoyable read.

Constantly calling the characters by both their first and last name was very off-putting...especially by the 7th or 8th time. The characters were very one dimensional and the plot was very slow moving. Might be good for a teenager or young adult...kind of naïve.

This is just the beginning of a great new series. The characters are delightful, especially Meg and her talking cat. The book is easy to read while entertaining you with mystery, magic and romance. Can't wait till the next one.

Poorly written with horrible dialogue and unbelievable plot. Apparently the police with years of training and experience are not as intelligent or crime savvy as a donut baking witch. Awful book, do not buy, if I could give it no stars, I would.

Meg must save her friend Lisa from a murder charge. Meg with the help of her grandmother/cat and her witchy ways. Meg's lost love, Conner is back in town adding to the mix. How will she ever tell him she is a witch? 5 Stars

I have read all of the Enchanted Bay witches books, and enjoyed every one, they were nice and easy to read and made me feel warm and comfortable during the cold and dark winters days. People who were giving them poor reviews I am sure they weren't reading them in the right light of day, i.e. as easy reading books. Yes so some have witches who are cleverer, not so beautiful don't have a boyfriend who has come back home, but they are longer books which need just that much more thought to read them.

I am just starting to read this Cozy Mystery. If The Witches Of Enchanted Bay is anything like the other books of K.M. Morgan, this will be a joy to devour. All her books are quick, fun and great to read on a cold, snowy night cuddled in front of the fire, or a hot, sunny day at the beach! I always look forward to reading Ms Morgan's Cozy Mysteries as soon as they are out, I have never been disappointed.

This was my favorite book of this series. I enjoy the characters, especially that she is a witch and that her grandmother is her cat. Working to solve a murder with her boyfriend puts a spin on things.
