Enlightening, provocative, and new. Some the store people I spoke with had not yet heard of this book. Takes the 14 Principles off the wall and makes them addressable. Inspiring with a push to action.

An interesting account from an insider who has bought into the the store 14 point leadership principles. These principles are truly enlightening but John points out how they have been used to create an ultra competitive environment setting aside common courtesies. John even gives personal accounts of Jeff Bezos embarrassing his inner circle, the S team. I think its no coincidence that John did not stay at the store for very long. It's commonly said in sports, a team is a reflection of its coach. After reading this book and many negative Glass Door reviews (John suggests this), its clear to me the success and angst at the store are solely a reflection of Jeff Bezos. It's also clear that employees at the store must have thick skin to survive and thrive.

I read this book over the weekend and absolutely love it. I am in charge of a lean software engineering department of a mid sized company. As I was reading through this book, I realized how much self-induced pain I was causing myself by not applying several of these principles. The first thing I did when I arrived at work today was to order several more copies of this book that I can distribute to my team.

This book does an excellent job outing a no excuse, results based method of project management.

John Rossman offers some interesting insights into the leadership principles that have spurred this company to constantly innovate. the store is the ultimate industry disruptor. Whether you admire or hate Jeff Bezos, you have to respect what he has created. I love books that allow me to quickly find the nuggets and aren't repetitive. This one fits the bill and is worth your time to read. It has lessons for everyone from entrepreneurs to CEOs of Fortune 100 companies.

The book only really touches on the culture and lists 14 principles relating to private sector businesses only. Some of the principles could apply to public sectors as well but the finance suggestions are interesting but not elated to fed/state orgs. The part the author left out is how much stress the employees are subjected to by Jeffry Preston Bezos. If they would dig deeper into how these principles affect real living people, perhaps modifications would make a better book. So read the book as interesting propositions (with a grain of salt) but also consider how strict adherence to such principles does not mean the work environment is desirable. Bezos is certainly egocentric - and when he meets his maker, he will learn the folly of his ways.

For readers who would like to learn more about the 14 leadership principles of the store, the book provides background details of what each of the principles means. After reading, I like the fact that I have obtained a concrete image of how the store produces the services and products and recommend this book to those who would like to deepen their understanding of the 14 principles.

One point to keep in mind is that the book is based mostly on the author's experience, and so most of the narratives and examples are from his prospective. It may help to reference more sources to get a complete picture on the the store way.

Most of the material is a culmination of publicly available information - news stores, Jeff's annual letters to shareholders. There are occasional block quotes from the Everything Store book even. The book is sometimes repetitive of public quotes from Jeff. The structure of the book is the compelling aspect -- aligning the narrative to each the store leadership principle. The Appendix is a great "in-book" profile (some may say advertisement) for the author's past work and what his firm might do for prospective clients. Overall, it's the story and not the writing that's interesting here.
