Way too wordy with a boring character in beginning. .. took a lot of scan reading to begin to appreciate the story. .. jumping characters to tie it altogether not done fluently. ME BEFORE YOU was brilliant as recognized by film producer and couldn't wait to read follow up AFTER YOU

I personally thought "Me before You" was a much more interesting book in that the author might have had personal experience herself or is close to someone else who has.
"Windfallen" just didn't grab my attention in quite the same way.

I have just discovered this author and find that I want to read all her novels. Story centers on two young women in an English seaside town which caters to tourists. One girl is a part of a family who is considered one of the leaders in the community and the other is a transplant--a foster child- raised with the eldest daughter in the house hold. Story focuses on the relationships in this family, and what happens in the little town when a group of artists settle in one of the town's larger, modern homes. Its a story of outsiders vs. insiders, both the town's folks and the two women. It has a great sense of place. I really enjoyed it.

I enjoyed the twists within the Acadia families and friends. The unknown types of relationships between all the occupants. A marriage to discourage a gay lover or protect her? How paths cross on life and intertwine, bringing closure.

Can't read Jojo Moyes' earlier books fast enough although this one wasn't a favorite. It didn't hold my interest early in but soldiered on and was glad I did. Curious, though, about the ending. Why is Celia talking about 18 apples? Won't spoil by giving context, but what does that mean?
