Dr. Hendricks has produced a masterful help in learning how to study the Bible. By using his method for two years now I am getting to know Jesus and the Father better than I ever could have without it. Thanks Dr. Hendricks!

Hendricks and Hendricks Living by the Book is outstanding. The volume helps people understand how to unleash the power of the Bible in their own lives. Rather than being a dust collector the Bible is designed to transform those who study it. This book helps unlock the ability of ordinary people to understand God's love letter to them. A must read!

Admittedly the Bible is a difficult book, when one tries to attempt a "cold-turkey" entry. Howard and William Hendricks' book LIVING BY THE BOOK possesses the following virtues to implement a good entry: 45 bite-sized chapters; an understandable presentation using every-day language and illustrations; easy-to-complete homework assignments; a chuckle a chapter; the building-block approach of the chapters- introductory chapters and then the three main principles of tackling the Bible, observation, interpretation, and application. Admittedly the book is not complete: there is no mention of dispensations as an indispensable key of interpretation. Other books present the dispensations in a short, understable format: C. I Scofield, RIGHTLY DIVIDING THE WORD. Hendricks' LIVING BY THE BOOK, however, provides an excellent start. It has no rival on the German market. Ronald Furst, Southern Germany, Nov. 25, 2011.

Living by the Book is beautifully written by a retired professor at Dallas Theological Seminary. His Work is quoted in many publications and sermons. The book's message: How to make the Bible understandable and living. This book can also be used for a home Bible study.

The content by Dr Hendricks is great. The actual video, however, is a little dated (the clothes they are wearing, the writing on an overhead projector, etc...). It looks like a seminar conducted in the 1990's.

I found Living By the Book a good technical exposition on how readers can glean the most substance in their daily study of scripture. In my eyes, some of the insights were to some degree obvious or repetative, and I found myself reading the chapters as quickly as I could merely to get through them. Though heavy on the technique (yes, as the subtitle states, the science) of studying the Word, I was disappointed that this book contained very little actual studying. I had hoped that this book would demonstrate how God's Word comes alive through application of techniques by demonstrating the acquired skill; unfortunately, aside from a few rare examples, this book taught the technique, but only occasionally put it to practice.

A wonderful and balanced look at how to read your bible with observation, interpretation, and the most challenging of all application. I am Catholic and I found this to be an amazing and easily applicable guide. Would also strongly recommend the workbook.
