Interesting concept with the Middle East caliphate invading Europe and Great Britain. It started with the refugee/immigration process that included subversive agents, terrorists and special forces components. It evolves into a war scenario and various evasion scenarios - where some are a success and some are failures. I won't give away the outcome but again, a very intuitive piece of work and an enjoyable read!
On the same note - the author writes like an American author, even though the majority of the story line reflects on Great Britain to include England and Scotland.

I really wanted to enjoy this book, however the scenario was just too unbelievable to make sense.
The book itself is well written and the story detailed and easy to read, but the scenario just keeps popping up, for instance the middle eastern forces have more advanced aircraft than europe? Just how would that occur over time?? And the navies of teh middle east are more powerful than europes?
I kept coming back to the scenario and wondering how that would have occured?

Through the years the Fifth Column within in one's nation was examined in a number of literary works . A unified movement in this case religion in conjunction with the rise of a unified government in the Middle East would provide a possible reality . Today in the Middle East there are a number of nations that are trying to become centers of power. I e Iran , Turkey, SA They are not all unified but One can recall the OPEC Embargo of October 1973 That was economic expression and in America it was a real wake up for reality. I must agree the Open approach the the EU has with "Immigrants " lack of proper spending for military and the social progressive agenda can have an impact Understanding this was a good read of What If future history however in the present one must be fully aware of events, history , and policy that does not square with reason and security . In other words. Freedom is not FREE it is always a work in progress and one step ahead of the dark abyss

Londonistan, as is called now by many, suffers an invasion by Islamic troops. Even when is fiction, still is frightening and could eventually happen The plot is quite specific in regard to western cultures which need to stay vigilant not to lose their values trying to carry favors with other cultures which are not as tolerant of western beliefs. Invasion accomplishes two missions: It weaves different storylines into one page-turner of a novel, and it issues a warning that the consumerist and materialist West may be heading for a fall in the not-too distant future.
About 20 years into the future, an American trend towards isolationism, a shocking decline in the Western economies, and Islam, unified at last and on a march of conquest spell disaster for Europe. Islam has united behind one charismatic leader --The Holy One-- and the long-hoped-for Muslim Caliphate is now a reality, the inevitable outcome of the Arab Spring of 2011.Author DC Alden tells us that Western leaders misconstrued the upheaval as a mass movement towards democracy when, in fact, it swept aside old regimes in favor of Islamist rule. Under the guidance of the Holy One the caliphate of Arabia stretches from the Moroccan shore on the Atlantic Ocean, across North Africa and the Middle East, and into Central Asia.
And now Arabia, with almost unlimited wealth, manpower and weapons attacks Europe with the aid of indigenous Muslim populations, who kick off the Islamic conquest of Europe with a tidal wave of violent terrorism. Allan uses a number of storylines to craft a history of the conquest of England. We follow the story of the Prime Minister whose life literally explodes in his face. He is hunted relentlessly as a prize of war and a propaganda tool by the ambitious Arabic General directing the invasion and conquest of England. The novel also details the escape from central London of two policemen and a young woman under their protection as civil society crumbles under the hammer blows of terrorism and invasion.
With exciting interludes of combat action and narrow escapes, Alden gives us a story that never drags. Invasion is so compelling, I was forced to read it in a single sitting. Yes the editing could have been better: typos made it into the final product. But the mistakes ared trifling compared to the gripping story DC Alden has offered us. For 99 cents for the Kindle version, this is an outstanding bargain.

Mr. Alden has written a surprisingly accurate and scary glimpse into the near future. As events are unfolding in the Middle East that parallel the novel's portrayal of the rise of the new Arabian state and along with the disintegration of the European Union, the sense is that I'm reading tomorrow's headlines today.
Alden may take heat for his portrayal of the Arab/Islamic fifth column within Great Britain and Europe given today's PC sensibilities, but any serious study of the current state of affairs that takes an honest and rational view of radical elements within Islam will find that the events portrayed in Alden's book are plausible and frightening. As I turned each page, I wondered could this actually happen? Will it be the rise of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt or the closing of the Straits of Hormuz by Iran that offers the final tipping point?
Well told with good dialogue and action, it was a page turner from the time I opened it. Well worth the price...!

Well done Mr Alden, what a brilliantly crafted, exciting military novel you've written.
I know little about military hardware or the inner workings of military planning so can't comment on technical aspects of the book, but I can tell readers looking for a mighty fine techno thriller that Invasion fits the bill nicely.
In contrast to many kindle books in this genre, the author is that - an author - who can spell, craft a story, build characters and write excellent action sequences. Couple this with tight, plausible dialog and you have a great story.
This is money well spent if you're after great holiday reading that will keep you up all night. I loved it.

DC Alden has created a very scary and plausible future for the United Kingdom and Europe suffering a blitzkreig invasion from a united Islamic world intent on ushering in a global caliphate.
The story primarily deals with events from the viewpoint of the British Prime Minister. There are a few secondary characters but they tend to be purely to give you another view on the invasion of the United Kingdom (except for one pretty neat twist). From the initial attack and his escape from Downing Street we follow the Prime Minister as he moves around England and the final retreat of all British military and political power into Scotland for a final confrontation.
This is a very well crafted tale and moves at a cracking pace. This novel reminded me of early Tom Clancy but thankfully Alden does not take 2 pages to tell us how a handgun operates.
What I found to be particulary interesting is how the Islamic invaders are not portrayed as foaming at the mouth extremists, their military is portrayed as capable, efficient and very human. At times I found myself shouting at the book because it seemed the Islamic army had a touch too much of good luck but as much as I hated the lack of resistance they faced I think that could be very accurate.
Very quickly into the book you realize there is not going to be a happy ending but that did not stop me wanting to see some last minute miracle happen.
For $2.99 this is a fantastic read. For an ebook I would easily pay twice this much for a book of this quality.
I look forward to reading more from DC Alden.

A book that is well written within the boundaries of its genre the premise though is so far fetched and down right silly that it loses maybe 2 stars. The underlying Islamophobia that permeates the book is also off putting.
In a series of swift, well coordinated terrorist/black-op/military operations Europe is caught off guard and taken over by a Caliphate that stretches from Morocco to Pakistan. Russia (once referred to as the USSR) and Turkey join in on the attack.
The geopolitics of this are just dumb. Really Shia will join with Sunni in an enormous empire with one leader who is called "the Holy one". That admittedly is not gone into that much because it is just not going to happen. Oh yes this a by product of the Arab Spring 20 years later.
The other silly part is that it is simply not possible for 500 or 600 surprise attacks across the whole of Europe to actually happen without some sort of intel getting out before hand. A continent the size of Europe is not militarily defeated in a few months by surprise attack.
So forgetting the silliness and implied nutty racism, the story is quite well written and is a page turner. Not great literature and certainly in the league of La Carre but for a pot boiler not bad.

Bought this book because the teaser story line sounded interesting. However, the scenario presented is just too unbelievable. There is no way that the massive forces employed by IS in the invasion could have been assembled, loaded into numerous ships, massed on the Bulgarian border, huge number of transport aircraft carrying several paratrooper divisions airborne over North Africa at the same time, without Britain and the US let alone NATO being aware that all this was happening and being totally caught with their pants down. Not to mention that the buildup of all these forces over time went completely undetected by intelligence. The sea lift for the invasion forces of armor and infantry would have involved hundreds of ships heading for England, the French ports - all completely overlooked, apparently. These forces conveniently overwhelmed every location they attacked, having complete surprise - involving many locations just precisely at the same time with no warning.
If one could accept the opening premise, the subsequent story line is able to hold your attention, but seems disjointed when jumping around to follow the individual key characters, and the battle scenes do have some Clancy - like descriptions with nice tech details. The end of the plot seems to just Peter out and we never know really what happened except that the rest of the world apparently tacitly accepted the conquest of Europe without any real response. I found the overall plot to be just too implausible and found myself saying to myself at several points while reading, " oh, come on, this is just too unbelievable." I cannot recommend the book.

Wow, talk about a story that could've been ripped from current headlines ! And talk about a narrative that hurtles along at a gallop (except the first chapter which seems a bit odd, but makes sense when the story concludes). I love Books based on what-if scenarios. I actually got chills while reading this, and then looking at articles on CNN and Sky News. This might as well be a textbook on how to pull off an Invasion. I look forward to reading The Horse at the Gates.

The book Invasion is an excellent book and warrants further writings toward another book Two. I would recommend this book to numerous friends without reservation. Author covered many areas of the book in detail and it was easy to read.

The story is well paced, it keeps you rooting for the overwhelmed British. The plot and characters are well thought out, the author doesn't bog the storyline down with trivial information. I'm looking forward to reading more by DC Alden.

I accept that it's alternative history, but it still came across as being too right wing for me. Well written, but it left me with a bad taste in my mouth. I'm not the most bleeding heart liberal, but still too much for me.

The idea behind this book is better than the story written. I enjoy possible future visions of what may be and whilst I did enjoy this novel, I feel that it got somewhat rushed towards the end, jumping forward in time with many questions unanswered. Feel that a sequel may be intended in the future and I would like to see this happen.

Rather spoiled by those who think it could really happen. A powerful new Caliphate unites the Islamic world A a better slightly more believable opponent would be a resurgent nationalist Russia. A united powerful Arab state is to unbelievable although this was written in 2010 before the Arab spring where corruption and repression was replaced with more corruption and repression with a side order of anarchy.

This is a very exciting and entertaining novel that began as a movie script (and what a movie it would be!). The scenario, though currently fantastic, communicates a plausible credibility given the elements of the invasion plan. The characters were well developed and their individual challenges thoroughly engaging. I did find the British PM a little cloying but he was balanced with the competent General Bashford. The main plot is how a desperate Britain attempts to hold on under the onslaught of a surprisingly superior force. The novel took me back to Cold War books that explored a Soviet invasion of Europe. Invasion was a random find that I greatly enjoyed.
