"The Apocalypse (The Undead World Series Book 1) -- In the forward the author warns us that his book is not like another author (Molles), and this book is down and dirty. And it is. The writing is good, maybe one or two typo's, and no huge grammar snafu's to irritate. We follow the outbreak of zombies due to a Russian selling this virus to other countries, and its rapid spread. We see the ineptitude of the American government and the American military. The situation quickly devolves into mayhem for all involved. Then we have our heroes, and all are written with enough depth that we are rooting for them. But, alas, as the author warns, it is not a nice novel. Book 1 was a good read. However, the second book seems rather forced and we are introduced to a new character, Jillybean, and her stuffed toy zebra, Ipes. Jillybean talks to Ipes, and Ipes talks to Jillybean and instructs her on getting out of scrapes with zombies and the power struggle between the various factions that take over different areas of the country. This is where the series devolves, and it is just too much to believe that several adults start taking instruction from a 6-year-old child and her stuffed zebra. It strains credulity. So, while I would recommend the first book, and perhaps the second book, I am not going to spend the money and time to finish the series as it is just a bit over the top.

Not a bad book. Not an amazing one either, although it is a quick read, which it has going for it. It's hard to empathize with some of the characters, and the story is somewhat formulaic. Minor shock value with a couple of the characters, but nothing that World War Z (the book, not the abomination of a movie) or The Walking Dead haven't done better. I'm undecided on reading any more of the series, I might read something else first then come back to this set.

Good character development . I understand introducing each character and then bringing them all together. Great. However the editor for this book seriously humped the bunk on this novel. Rank with grammar, punctuation, spelling errors. Bring in a professional editor for the next book. I Will read it, even with all the errors.

I enjoyed this thoroughly. It tells the story of how the decimation of civilization happens. It moves pretty quickly to the breakdown of society and how horrible people become. At first I thought all the men in the story were just base animals, but it showed very quickly that not everybody is horrible and some keep their humanity and even find hidden strength.

I really enjoyed this book, and went on to purchase the second. The pace is good, the story is believable and the characters are very interesting. As the chapters alternate characters, sometimes I had to flip ahead because I couldn't stand to wait, he uses good cliff hangars. But I always went back and read the chapter I skipped..lol Loved it!

Very realistic look at an apocalyptic catastrophe and the likely gamut of human emotions and actions. I really liked that it didn't load up one many with a Rambo/Einstien combination of skill and intelligence that remind me of no one Ive ever met. These are realistic characters and scenarios. Excellent absorbing read.

Good zombie series. Great story lines throughout the series. The characters are believable which is a sign of good writing, but for me, I need to be rooting for the characters. I found all but 2 wanting. I am waiting for book 4 to be released. I just wish that Neil had died off in book 1.

The writing was OK in spite of some flawed editing. The story was run of the mill with no real standouts in the plot or the scenario. The characters were a bit 1 dimensional at first but slowly they started to grow into their own

I have read a number of zombie apocalypse books and this one is one of the better ones. It is easy to identify with any one of the characters and the story line is well thought out and divided into some of the main characters. I would recommend this book to any that like reading about the zombie apocalypse.

The book is very dark with realistic flawed characters. Some are likeable, some not. I am not crazy about the likeable character. I thought the book was interesting enough to read the second. however, so far on the second book, I am bored already. I read better zombie books -- this is just ok.

Couldn't put it down! Very realistically flawed characters: they are Everyman and Everywoman you have ever met. Fast-moving, unflinching, entertaining, and engrossing. You love some characters & hate others. No fairy tale here, just a great story.

This book series is fantastic! I fell in love with the characters & rooted for them. My husband was in the hospital & I would listen to this series to distract me. In fact, he got hooked listening to the narration going through chemo. Thank you for this riveting story! I hope they never end!

Very fast paced with a diverse group of characters. The author does a good job of showing the good and the not so good in people. While it is a zombie book I felt it was less about the zombies and more about how people react and adapt to a horrific crisis.

I throughly enjoyed the characters in The Apocalypse. I enjoyed how the story pulls together, quite different from most of the zombie books that I have read. I can't wait to download the next book!

Some reviews on here got me curious. Turns out this was/is a pretty well thought out and totally enjoyable book!! I will be looking for more books by this author. Glad it was all politically correct and more down to earth "real" Thanks for that!! Gifted author

This is the first in the series by Peter Meredith that will keep you coming back for more. You can't help but feel the characters pain and joy throughout this book. Peter has done a great job building up the diverse set of individuals in each and every chapter. Keep them coming.

I have been consuming a great number of apocalyptic novels and found this slow start arduous. When you slug through the start the fun begins, I enjoyed the realism of the characters, hard choices made at exciting times. The situations have a simplistic nature and are very believable.

I actually really enjoyed the story lines, it was the misuse of words that bothered me. It was if it wasn't properly proof read on a few places. I liked it enough to immediately purchase the next book in the series which has kept my interest also. I'll be moving on to the 3rd book in a day or so

This book is BOSS. You will meet my favorite character (Jillybeen)in the second book. Niel is sooo funny with his 'trusty broom-stick'. Cassie is a straight-out CRAZY. Ram is...well...Ram. Sadie is one of my favs.

IF YOU ARE EASILY OFFENDED, DO NOT READ THIS ONE!
That being said, I found the book to have great character interaction and development for the most part. Yes, there is room for some improvement there. Plenty of twists and turns to hook almost anyone. Descriptions were done in such a way as to allow the reader to visualize the places.
I feel that the author has forgotten that there are strong women in the world, who don't just go by their looks. They will stand up and defend themselves and others, not just roll over and let the bad guys do whatever. Mr. Meridith's misogyny against strong women is plainly apparent in this book.

I have been reading novels of this nature for over 25 years, and in all that time, I have yet to find another storyteller of this caliber. You have to read this!!! Jillybean awaits you, and that's what means you should spend the next month of your life dedicated to this amazing author and this incredible tale.

I think this author hammered the nail on this one. People would still expect to rely on the strong to survive and in a real apocalyptic world. the word fair would cease to exist. he'll it barely exists now.

I've read tons of zombie novels, and I thoroughly enjoyed this one. The story is action-packed, which you almost expect in a zombie novel, but the author also does a great job of character development. I didn't think about it at first, until I realized that one of the characters that was so annoying at the beginning slowly turned into a really likable guy. By the end of the story, I was cheering for him. Go figure. Same thing with other characters, although not all in the same direction. I was impressed with the characters, but really captivated by the story.
As another reviewer mentioned, I did find a few typos and many cases where the spell check apparently substituted the wrong word. This would benefit from a good editor, but even so, it was a great novel and I was disappointed when it ended. I'm hoping for a sequel.

I thought the objectionable character was over the top, but I appreciate that the author had the cajones to create a controversial character like that. Overall extremely well written. Not as good as the top zombie fiction but definitely in the top 10%.

Anyone that is a true zombie/apocalyptic fan should enjoy this book. The author offers a warning at the beginning of the book that this is not a politically correct novel and makes no apologies for it. This is what the real end of days would look like. Gritty, horrific kill or be killed world. Great read that at the end of the book makes you think "would I be able to survive?"

Excellent story with strong visuals and characters. A bit racisty (is that a word?) when it came to the evil antagonist. Loved Sadie the most. Strong character and I hope she is explored more in other novels.
