What determination this man had. So thoughtful at even a very young age. If anything he shows us that even through the worse despair one could not even imagine one can find and make his own light and lift himself up. Amazing life, amazing man.

An excellent example of a well written and thought out book. Booker T Washington gives the factual life account if his rise from slavery to freedom. This book is encouraging and shows the reader to take charge of life and not blame the past for present and future decisions.

This book should be in the classroom in all schools-not sure what grade is appropriate but it is truly a wonderful and uplifting book to read. Glad, I now own several copies and pass them out as gifts!

This book is a must for todays generation and for those who feel in a minority. It is a great encouragement as to what a person or group of people can do if they set the mind to it and are willing to exert some effort. There have been times that my wife and I cleaned toilets for a living and we determined to do the best job we could. This book helps me to have another reason as to why we did that.

Superb story of a self-made college president, a story of intelligence, industry and determination overcoming all obstacles to achieve one's life dream. Goes to show that lack of resource may delay, but don't prevent one from achieving his dreams.

Mr. Washington demonstates pragmatism in the universal plight, plus or minus, of arriving in time in our package, whatever it is, and progressing through persistance and acknowledging the heart of his humanity.

the book quality was great, the content makes you think and reinforces your own beliefs. this book was like watching Fox News and then understanding why you like MSNBC so much. I recommend it as a good read. It was interesting how many issues mentioned in the book still remain today

Everyone in America should be required to read this book, not only from a historical perspective, but for a decent humbling. The education our youth throw away was treasured by this man, and everything that he accomplished is astounding.

The book arrived on time, in great condition. The price was excellent. I really enjoyed the read. I'd only learned limited, superficial facts about Booker T. Washington in grade school. He really is a fascinating figure and pillar of American History and it's educational system. This book truly reflects that.

This is a most interesting piece of American history. It demonstrates how a person of high principals can achieve beyond expectations. It should be a "must read" for US History students to give them a deeper understanding of the evolution of our black population. Booker T. Washington's concepts are the principals behind the BTW Society that will be shaping minds in the immediate future.

This is one of the most important works in American literature. We can learn from Booker T. Washington about American history, hard work, education, humility, cleanliness, ethics, race relations, public speaking skills and more. For educators, read it with your teacher's glasses on and you will be inspired!

A number of us pastors read through it and discussed the content together, my wife attended the discussion and decided that she wanted to read it as well. She also found it interesting and a delightful insight into the man and his times.

An exceptional man for the shamelessly cruel times in which he lived. Illuminating book about race, life and the dogged determination of one man to make a difference that lasts to this very day in the institution he left.

Booker T. Washington was the first president of Tuskegee Institute. This is a great look into the early issues for former slaves, the difficulties they experienced in becoming integrated into society. Booker's hope was that the integration would be very peaceful. He had wonderful plans for helping blacks learn the basic societal things they had never known. His view was that manual labor was admirable and should be perfected along with intellectual skills. The last part of the book feels a lot like "name dropping." However, when I read the commentary at the end of the book, I realized why. He was trying to point out to his contemporaries that it was possible for a black man to have good white friends. If Booker's dreams would have been realized, we might never have had the racial problems that have been so hurtful to our country. I do wish we would have learned more about his marriages and his life with his children. That was definitely downplayed.

Outstanding book and a must read. Booker T. Washington's story of perseverance and determination is an encouragement to all. As an educator I found his views and endeavors into education fascinating and inspiring.

Easy read, compelling story, striking humility only begins to express the sentiments felt as I contemplate the impressions made by this book. I love the heart of this giant of a man. I wish that I could know more about some of his heroes, esp General Armstrong.

Excellent book. Mr. Washington's amazing story should be read by all American no matter their color or background. The adversities he overcame and things he accomplished all the while never using his circumstances as an excuse for failure.
