"Just In Case You Ever Wonder" by Max Lucado (illustrated by Toni Goffe) is such a sweet children's book! I can't wait to read it to my own children. It's a great way to introduce and remind children why they are special (God created them) and that they are loved immensely by God and their parents no matter what.

Lucado's simple language and measured rhythm makes for a great bedtime or anytime read for children. The illustrations are beautiful and engaging as well. Part of me wished it was a little longer but I also know that it has to be short enough to keep a child's attention and it definitely met that criteria. I think it's great for elementary age children but definitely a concept that could use some reinforcing throughout childhood. Since the author has daughters (and the book was written for and dedicated to them), the illustrator used a female child in all the illustrations which, to me, would limit it's visual appeal but the book definitely still has a message that sons need to hear as well as daughters.

Overall, a wonderful children's book that I can't wait to read to my own children one day. Simple, precious and a wonderful message...just in case you were wondering ;)

I purchased this book because of the Author. I love Max Lucado, and I thought since it was a board book that it would be something my 1 yo would like. The story is very sweet, about how the child will always have someone there for them who loves them and it goes through different life stages. For a young child, the subject matter doesn't make much sense as they have no concept of a lot of the things mentioned in the book (monsters in the closet, being bullied, death of a loved one). I feel like even suggesting that there might be "monsters in the shadows" puts the idea into children's heads that they might never have thought of themselves. It talks about kids being mean at school and angry teachers, which, until it happens only perpetuates fear of school. Don't get me wrong, once a child has gone through those things, the book becomes more relevant, and sends the message that the child is always loved and wanted by someone, and by God. I would definitely buy this book for a 8-10 year old, but probably not younger than that.

Never, ever, ever grab a book by Lucado without having a box of tissue nearby.

"...As you grow and change, some things will stay the same. I'll always love you. I'll always hug you. I'll always be on your side. And I want you to know that... just in case you ever wonder."

How we want our children not just to know in their minds, this truth, but to feel it in all they do, wherever they may go as they get older.

From beginning, to end, this book shares and speaks perfectly to the love and devotion we all feel towards our children. Wonderful illustrations and a simple heartwarming message perfect for all ages.

Every once in a while, a book will come along that speaks directly to your heart and to the place of hurt that only God can heal.

I was so pleased to see that this book was being republished. I read it to my now teenage children when they were still small enough to sit in my lap. The book is a sweet story about how special a child is and how God created him or her so uniquely. God created the family to love and care and protect. The book tachess children of these truths of God's love "just in case they ever wonder."

What was so special about this book to me right now is that God reminded me of His truth in my life. My love for my children is a mere reflection of God's love for me. As fierce as I love my children, God's love is even more fierce. As much as I want to bless my children, God wants to bless me. Sometimes I wonder and need this reminder of how much God loves me.

Thomas Nelson provided me a free copy in exchange for my review which I freely give.

I've loved other books by Max Lucado, so when I saw this, I expected to love it. But I kind of didn't. And what I like the least is something I didn't notice any other reviewer mention. On the 5th page spread, it reads, "And since you are so special, God wanted to put you in just the right home... where you would be warm when it's cold, where you'd be safe when you're afraid, where you'd have fun and learn about heaven. After lots of looking, God sent you to me." So... what's the implication there? Because you're special, you have a good home. And kids who don't have a warm, safe, fun Christian home are... less special? God phoned it in when he sent them to be born? I don't think any of that is what Max Lucado means, of course, but I don't think he thought it through, and for any child who does think it through, it leads to a troubling conclusion.

A great book to read to the kids. My 3 year old can't wait for her 7 year old brother to come home from school so I can read it to him also. Both of them loves this book. The words are written in such a way that makes it sound like you are saying all those loving words directly to your kids. That God made us all different and so very special. How thankful parents are that God decided to make and send this so special kid to be a part of the family. That whatever happens God and parents will always love their kids.
As I was browsing through the reviews for this book. I was surprise at how some readers are offended that the child illustrated in the book is bottle fed. So if something like that is offensive to you. Do not pick the book. Otherwise, this is a great book to read to our children and to remind ourselves about how much God and parents love their kids.
I got this book free from "Booksneeze" in exchange for an honest review.

This was by far my most favorite bed time story to read both of my kids. they loved it too! We read it so much that I had it memorized and could "read" it in the car when I was driving. It is the perfect story of a child and parent relationship wrapped up with God our Father. This is an excellent book and I cannot reccomend it enough. It does not skip around or confuse a child. The pictures are not scary. I am now purchasing this book for every baby shower or birthday party that we attend! LOVE THIS BOOK!!

I was given an e copy of this book in exchange for this honest review.

Max Lucado spins a lovely poem like book where a parent is telling his or her child how much the child is, always has been, and always will be loved not only by parents, but also by God as well. The book speaks of the parents always being there for the child and how someday they are promised a wonderful place called Heaven, where they will not only be together forever, but be in the presence of God as well.

I have 3 children. This book sums up so well how much I love them and what I want them to know about that. I never want to leave them wondering if their parents or God care. I want them to always know that no matter what, we are on their side..even if we are angry because they did something wrong..that does not mean the love went away.

I would recommend this book to anyone with small children. It is wonderful!

I knew this picture book by Max Lucado would be great because everything he write for both children and adults is always wonderful!

Just in Case You Ever Wonder is a book both my children and I enjoyed. It's a sweet book to read aloud to them and teaches them that their father in Heaven and you, their mom or dad, will always love them no matter what.... just in case they ever wonder.

"As you grow and change, some things will stay the same. I'll always love you. I'll always hug you. I'll always be on your side. And I want you to know that ... just in case you ever wonder."

The illustrations are colorful and the story is short and sweet... though not too short. You can see an excerpt here. This book would make a wonderful Christmas gift!

I chose the book "just in Case You Ever Wonder" by Max Lucado because I actually thought, even if a little on the "child like" side, (maybe ages 4-8) I could share it with my newly Home Schooled 12 year old who is really struggling right now. I have read Max Lucados books in the past, and LOVED them! I can't say that I was quite as "awe struck" with this one.
It was a great story, that assures a child that just in case they ever wonder about the love and endurance of their parent, or of God; it remains always! Only after reading it; I don't think sharing it would be the greatest of ideas. One of his major struggles right now is that he is being home schooled. This book shares an illustration of a bad day at school.
The book also promises that we will be in Heaven together. Maybe I am basing my opinion from old wounds. But That is surely a promise I wouldn't feel comfortable making.
Do I believe I'm going to Heaven? Absolutely!
Do I believe what Gods word says about getting to heaven? Absolutely!
But I am not God, and I don't get to promise someone my eternity...that's for Him to judge!
Although, I feel as though the book could have been slightly more diverse, even for the christian population; A great book none the less, I will for sure be reading it to all the little nieces and nephews. And I would surely recommend it to others!

I received a copy of this ebook free of charge from the publisher for the purpose of review.

This children's book was a sweet story of a parent's love for a child. It was well illustrated with great pictures. It also reflects how a parent will always be there for a child as they grow. There was one picture in it my eight year old autistic child was uncomfortable with but other than that she enjoyed the story. It is definitely a Christian book because it assures that a parent will go to Heaven along with the child which cannot be guaranteed apart from the blood of Christ. So it would not be true if a true Christian was not reading this. Overall though it is a sweet children's storybook. In faith we can hope that our children will have their eyes opened to Christ and accept His invitation as well though. That is what any Christian parent would desire for their child.

A lovely illustrated book about a parent’s love for his child and how their love will always be there for them – thru all the changes of life and they’ll be waiting for him when he reaches heaven – also great at illustrating God’s love for the child and how they are so unique from everyone else in the World --- made me happy and even shed a few tears!

Just in Case You Ever Wonderis a children's book written by Max Lucado, published by Thomas Nelson Publishers. I received this book to review for free from the publisher. This story is told from the parent's perspective to the child. My children are ages five and seven and although they would listen to this story, it is definitely geared toward a younger audience, my suggestion is age five and under. The parent of this story tells his/her child how important the child is and what a joy it is to raise him/her and see the child grow.
This is a heartfelt and tender story, expressing a parent's love well for a child, from the time they were born to years later, seeing them grow up. The illustrations are nice and the parent does mention how God also loves and wants to protect the child. I recommend this book to any parent who wants to use a book to help show their child how much they are loved. As an adoptive parent, I was a little disappointed that the story starts from birth, as the parent recalls the first night with the child; my youngest child is adopted and my first night with that child was when he was several years old, so we cannot relate to the very beginning, like this story illustrates. Otherwise, this is a warming book that will help child and parent connect in a loving way.

I recently received "In Case You Ever Wonder" by Max Lucado for my 8 month old daughter and I loved it!
This book is written to show and remind children how much not only their parents love them, but also their heavenly father. Upon opening the first pages, this is what one reads: "long, long ago God made a decision - a very important decision...one I'm really glad that he made. He made the decision to make you!" How sweet. How precious. How encouraging to our children.
In an age when our children fight for their identity, this book reminds them that their identity can only be found in Christ. What a powerful message to read to our children in a way that they can understand and grasp. I love this book and will purchase it for future birthday & baby shower gifts. May you be blessed as you read this book!

Just in Case You Ever Wonder by Max Lucado is a children's book that reassures a child that his parents will always love him...just in case he ever wonders. This book starts with how God makes each person special and places him in a just the right family, a family that will take care of him and teach him about God and heaven.

My children and I enjoyed this book. The message is good and the illustrations are well done. However, when Lucado talks about parents teaching their children about heaven, he leaves it there. I don't understand why there is no mention of Jesus, the way to heaven. It seems like it would fit very nicely right there. I'm disappointed because I expected more of Lucado.

I want to thank BookSneeze for my copy of this book to review, but my opinions are my own.

I have loved this book from afar for a while. Working in a Christian bookstore for most of my working life, I know good books from bad.

And this is an excellent book, a must for every child's library.

I received this from BookSneeze on Kindle, so I will be reading this to my daughter quite often now :)

The story expresses what we as parents all want our children to know: they are very special, unique and have our hearts and this will never change.

The ending is perfect; it talks about heaven.

I just sat down to read Max Lucado's Just in Case You Ever Wonder to my 3 youngest children, aged 7, 5, and 2. When I finished, my 7 year-old commented, "That is a very special book."

Indeed, it is! I think the impact of the words would have been greater if it had not been for the fact that it was the first time I had ever read a Kindle book on my phone to my children and they kept wanting to turn the pages, but I think I'll be reading the book over and over to them.

The simple language, the pictures with lots of detail to see, and the frequent assurance of the parent's lasting love will make this a favorite with young children. My 2 year-old didn't like the picture that went along with telling the child to come to the parent when she sees monsters in the shadows, but we can flip quickly past that page.

My only complaint is that, when telling the child about Heaven, the book did not mention the fact that the way to Heaven is only through Jesus. Instead, reading the book could give the child the idea that he or she will automatically go to Heaven. Perhaps Max Lucado did not think that the book could properly address that, but I would have liked to see some mention of it.

Overall, though, I would agree with my daughter - Just in Case You Ever Wonder is a special book!

Disclosure: I was provided with a free Kindle version of this book in exchange for my unbiased review.

I took one look at this book tears welled up and knew it was a keeper; I bought it on the spot. It says what I think every parent feels about their "little angel sent from Heaven" (as my Mom always called me.)
The story begins by telling the child "long, long ago God made a decision...a very important decision...one that I'm really glad He made. He made the decision to make you."
The story truly expresses what we as parents all want our children to know: they are very special, unique and have our hearts wrapped around their fingers since birth and this will never change.
"...As you grow and change, some things will stay the same. I'll always love you. I'll always hug you. I'll always be on your side. And I want you to know that... just in case you ever wonder."
The ending is perfect; it talks about heaven. At the beginning and end, there are a few blank pages that I took advantage of and wrote some personal comments in my only daughter, Kaitlyn's copy. I know she will cherish this book forever and always know how much her Mom loves her. Isn't that what you want for your children? We are not immortal; leave something behind for your child to treasure. This book is a great way to do it.

This is a sweet little story that Max Lucado wrote for his daughters when they were all very small. It's meant to be read as a bedtime story and serve as a reminder to young children that God created them and their parents will always love them. I found it to be very basic however. There is more that Lucado could have done with this concept. The text feels like it is missing something.
The illustrations however of Toni Goffe are another issue. Beautifully done ink and watercolor paintings add to that void that Lucado was unable to fill. These illustrations are beautiful enough to enjoy in their own right.
Why 4 stars?:
While I enjoy the concept of a bedtime book reminding children of how much God and their parents love them, Lucado seems to have left something out. Goffe's illustrations help to make the book more complete however.

I wish I had read the reviews before I bought this book. I saw it in the store and loved the beginning, so I bought it. However, as mentioned by other readers, it is not for small children. My 18 month old loves books and we read all the time, but she doesn't really understand about monsters and noises in your closet at night, and I am not ready to explain them to her. And she is WAY too young to understand kids being mean to other kids and bad grades in school or mean teachers. I couldn't find the line about "when I am gone" that was mentioned in another review. Maybe the book has been reprinted? Also, as others mentioned, illustrations of breast feeding rather than bottles would have been nice. I am sure when she is older, she will like this book, but...it wouldn't need to be a board book then, would it? Also, as a mommy, I would have liked to see more illustrations of mommy rather than almost all of daddy.

I bought this book specifically for a conversation about death I was forced to have with my daughter who was 3.5 at the time. I had lost a close friend to cancer and my daughter was asking questions. I wanted a book with a message about love after death based on Christian principles but without pictures of heaven or overly precise descriptions of the afterlife. I thought this was an excellent book based on my needs at the time. We read it a few times over the course of a week or two and I answered basically the same questions several times until my daughter seemed to feel reassured and stopped asking.

I would not, however, consider this a book to be read on a regular basis for very small children. Others have pointed out that some of the pages about being an older child and the associated fears are not ideal for younger children and I agree. I think I actually skipped those. A preschooler can't really comprehend the idea of being a preteen/teenager and the kinds of feelings they will have then, so I don't feel like those parts were helpful and were more likely to confuse or frighten her than make her feel safe and loved. We've only read it a few times in the last year, because it is one she rarely asks for at this point.

I don't know exactly where this book came from, but it was sitting on my kitchen table this morning. Emma had one more book to read for her monthly reading award so we plunked down and started reading.
This board book is deceptive... it is written for a child: starting as a small baby and up to a teen and yet it can also be very much for the adult reading to the small baby up to the teen.
It describes how the parent loves the child and how God loves the child, asking the child to accept and know the answer to the question of whether or not they are loved "Just in Case You Ever Wonder"... and who doesn't wonder, "Does my family love me?" or "Does God love me?" or "What is there about me to love?"
Lucado lays it out beautifully for the child in each of us to know and treasure.
You will want to have a copy of this one around "just in case" a child wanders by who you might have the chance to sit and read for a while. You could even sit out on your front steps and wait for your neighbors to come out and offer to read to them for a spell.
I read it to Emma who then read it to two-year-old Sam and then to herself again and then to Sam again and then to herself again.
She started the day cranky and ended up going to school with a big smile on her face.
See what I mean about this book?
Read it to all the "children" of every age you can. It will be good for YOUR soul as well as theirs.

Max Lucado has written a poignant gem of a children's book in Just in Case You Ever Wonder. This sweet picture book is a heartfelt message of unconditional love from parent to child and as such, reinforces the concept of God's love for His children. I love the imagery in the story, that the same person that created the beautiful world around us also made each one of us, separate and with our own individual traits in mind. It just goes a long way to make the child feel truly special and loved and the accompanying illustrations are wonderfully drawn. This one is a great little book to have in your picture book collection.

My girls were really happy to get a new bedtime book though! I didn't really know what to expect from this book but I really loved it. My almost four years old loves to ask "why?" I just kept reading tonight when she would ask and she would smile when she heard the answers to her "why's". I can see this book staying on our bookshelf for awhile. It is a book the kids can grow into for sure. It might be a little above them right now but they get that mommy and daddy love them and so does God. My favorite part was actually the end of the book when it talks about Heaven because we have been talking about Heaven lately so it was nice for the girls to see and hear that mentioned again in another way!

I bought this book for my daughter several years ago from Goodwill, because I love Max Lucado books. It was the best $1 book I have ever bought! So, when it was available in ebook form, I jumped for joy! This book expresses love from God and parents in such a way that it has become one of my daughter's favorite bedtime stories. The reassurance that even when she has a bad day, that she is loved and valued is one of those things that every child needs. You and your child will grow closer by reading this one together! It is a great bedtime story!

Max Lucado has an ability to bring God's comfort and love onto the pages of a book. What a gift he has!

I bought this book for my daughter years ago when she was going through a very tough time. She was only 6 at the time, but life had become very painful for her. I wanted her to know that not only do I love her, but God loves her too...no matter what. It quickly became her favorite book and we often curled up together for me to read to her. She memorized each line and knew if I changed a word. The last time I read it to her was when she was 18 years old. This book brought her special encouragement during times of heartache.

My daughter was killed at the age of 19 and now this book brings me comfort becauses she never has to wonder again!

I first received this bookas a gift in the hardcover version when my daughter was born. It may have been the messed up hormones after giving birth, but I balled the entire book. Recently we received the Kindle version of the book and I am thrilled that we have it in our electronic library. It is such a heart warming book that introduces children to the concept of heaven and reassures then that God created them and made them special and chose just the right family to give them to. This will be a book that I continue to read to my children through the years. By the way, I was choking back tears as I read it to them again (no post-pregnancy hormones to blame this time.)

Ever since my daughter was just an infant, I have collected many books that have a common theme - the love that a mother has for her child. I say, "I love you" every single day to my children; however, they simply can't grasp the intensity and magnitude of this love. The authors of the books I buy have such beautiful words that convey how I feel.

I was first introduced to Max Lucado's books while participating in my RCIA classes last year. Although I haven't read his books for adults, I simply fell in love with his children's books. I really enjoy reading them to my daughter. "Just In Case You Ever Wonder" is now one of my absolute favorites. My daughter does not yet know that her father and I lost two babies prior to having her. She doesn't don't think she will understand this until she is older.

One of the things that I love about this book is that Lucado also talks about the fact that no matter what happens and the fact that your child will grow older and change, you will always love them.

"I'll always love you.
I'll always hug you.
I'll always be on your side.
And I want you to know that...
just in case you ever wonder".

Lastly, Lucado talks about how God wishes for parents to teach their children about heaven and explain that it's beautiful, there's no pain, and nothing to be afraid of. One of my favorite lines is in the end when it states that "I will be there, too. I promise. We will be there together, forever".

This book is so sweet and I highly recommend it to parents.

Max Lucado's Just in Case You Ever Wonder is a sweet story of family love and sends a message to young readers about their incredible value as children of God. The artistry is beautiful and the truth simple, clear and poignant. This is the kind of book that would make a perfect bedtime story; the tone is so soothing and I love the idea of my little one falling asleep with a message of how precious she is.

I opted for a digital version of this sweet story, but I think it would be much better in print. Kids need to hold books in their little hands and turn the pages over and over again. I found the digital version to be a little confusing because you couldn't really see the pictures and words on a "page" at the same time. However, we were reading the book on my husband's Iphone. If you had an Ipad, you wouldn't have that problem at all.

I'm giving the book a 4/5 stars, but really only because I don't recommend the digital version of this story. Get the real book! The story is so sweet and would make a wonderful addition to any child's library.

The resounding message, God made you, carries through every page of this beautifully illustrated book, along with reassurances that your child was created in a very special and unique way by God. The wonderful thing about Just in Case You Ever Wonder is that not only does it speak about when your child was a baby but also as they get older, grow and change. The child will hear the words that you will always love them, hug them and be on your side. So sweet!

And straight from the book:

Most of all, I'll be here to teach you about God. He loves you. He protects you. He and His angels are always watching over you.

Beautiful!

I highly recommend this book! Wonderful book for baby showers, baptism, birthday, or a Christmas gifts.

I bought this book as an after thought. I have a running joke with my 3 year old son that his hinney is mine and he tells me "no mom God made me and it's mine" Well my husband recently deployed and my little boy really misses him and is having some concern over is daddy coming home. I got the book to support the family joke, but got much more than I expected. I can't tell you how nice it is to have a really up lifting way to explain Gods love and mommy and daddy's love and how some day we will all be together, but in the mean time "just in case you ever wonder"...I will always be here for you ( even if daddy can't be). He asks me to read it every night. I agree with one review about the monster. He really noticed that page too. I think every child can gather strength and and a stronger sence of self from this book. I am now looking at getting them all.

Are you looking for a little book for those Easter baskets? Just in time for Easter {or maybe not} Max Lucado's, Just in Case You Ever Wonder, illustrations by Toni Goffe.

Just in Case You Ever Wonder is a children's book about unconditional love, the kind of love that parents desire to give and a child longs to receive. This book illustrates that no matter what happens a parent's love will never change throughout their child's life.

I wanted to love this children's book, because I do love Max Ludcado, but I found the wording to be a bit too strong for little ones, and not engaging enough for older children. The book seemed lacking in cohesion, and then there are the scary moments and the languishing end focusing on heaven. Heaven is a great topic, but it seemed disjointed from this book, and I was disappointed that there was no mention of accepting Jesus to enter heaven. I do think the book might have been better as two, one about parental love the other about heaven.

Overall, the book does leave you with a nice feeling of what unconditional love looks like. Since the book was dedicated to his daughters, I can see where this book was written from and would not disregard it completely. And, if you are dealing with the sensitive issue of death with younger children this book might be a terrific jumping point for that discussion. The illustrations were beautiful, I would definitely recommend this book in paper context not digital. I also believe that there will be those that will cherish and love this book, I just didn't. However, for that reason alone I would give it three stars.

**I do receive complimentary copies of books in return for my reviews via BookSneeze, Thomas Nelson.

This is a bedtime story book from the well known author and bestseller Max Lucado. It's simple illustrated and written with such an easy language that makes the idea accessible even for the youngest children. This book is also suitable for children of any age.

Have you ever felt like you can't find the right words to tell your children how much you love them? Have you ever tried to explain how big what you feel for them is? Well this book will ease those moments for you. It will help your son or daughter understand how unconditional God's love is and how we, as their parents feel the same for them. This book will reaffirm God's love for children, no matter what. Lucado presents a few "real life situations" that children encounter and shows how God cares about them it those moments. He also explains that God made children with intention and that is was not by chance. After reading this book to your kids, they will feel valued and with a purpose in life.

I recommend this book to every parent who wants to leave a warm and lovely feeling to their children before going to bed.

No child tires of hearing "You're Special." This book reaffirms how special and unique each child is. It praises a child's one-of-a-kind physical appearance, mentions how his/her home was hand-picked by God and stresses how he/she will always be loved throughout all of life and it's changes. It ends by explaining what it will be like in Heaven and how we will all be together forever and the importance of loving God. It's sweet illustrations and calming words make this a good choice to read just before bed. My own children enjoyed reading this Ebook version on my phone. I have read the promises in this book to all of my kids, ages 0-7, and they each enjoyed it.

A sweet story of how much a parent loves their child. I give it three stars because it just did not fit our family situation very well, as it mentioned the parent being presented their infant child and holding them as a baby for the first time, but in our situation our children came to us through adoption as preschoolers. It is a very short book, as if for a younger child, but written in a way that might be appreciated by those older than board-book age (as our edition is a board book, I thought this was worth mentioning). Very sweetly and soothingly written, though.

In the book, the parent is telling the child the story of how God made her special and chose just the right home for her. Then it looks back on the child as a baby, happily reminiscing and then commenting on how she's grown. But mainly it emphasizes that the parent loves the child very, very much and will always be there for her. Just the kinds of things that are so important for children to hear.

I really love reading this to my 8-month-old and I almost always tear up at some point. Even though she doesn't understand the words yet, I hope she understands that she is loved and safe with us. I love that it teaches her about God, and that it tells her to trust us. I'm looking forward to when the words will have more meaning to her.

Be aware that it does talk about heaven, which might lead to thoughts or questions about death, so some kids might need to be a little older to understand. (Although I'm not sure - I only have a baby, what do I know!) Also, it goes into some things that the child might be afraid of or sad about, and although the purpose is to provide reassurance, I can see how it might put ideas into a young child's head. But again, I only have a baby and I don't know how she'll react to it when she gets older.

Overall I think it has a wonderful message and one that I feel very strongly. I'm keeping this one around for sure.

"Just In Case You Ever Wonder" is a Christian children's book that looks as if it were meant for young children-- not many words, lots of pictures. But the content is really geared more towards older children. The basic premise of the story is sweet and innocuous enough: told from a parent's point of view, it is a reminder to children that their parents will always be there for them and will always love them. A good message...

... until I got to the part about scary noises at night and seeing monsters in shadows. That bothered me. I can see how such a notion can be planted into a young child's head and cause problems. I get that the idea was to reassure the child that their parents (and God) will love and protect them even when they're scared, but I think better examples could have been used. Not every kid thinks there are monsters under the bed, and maybe now they will! It was dark when I read this e-book on the iPad to my son at bedtime, and even *I* got the willies!

The book then trails off into the topic of heaven and how wonderful it is. Which is also nice, but seems strangely out of place in a book that starts strongly with the message that a child can turn to his parents and to God for love and support.

All in all, I thought the *overall* message of the book was nice-- "I'm here for you no matter what"-- and that's something I definitely want to impart to my child. But the way this idea was presented felt rather disjointed and disorganized, on top of the use of some poor examples. I definitely think there are better ways to present this idea, with better examples and better-flowing content.

I am so thankful for the recent opportunity I had to review Max Lucado's children's book "Just in Case You Ever Wonder." When I read "Traveling Light" by Max Lucado for the first time several years ago, I was hooked. He is a gifted writer and minister, and I was anxious to read a children's book written by him. While "Just in case you ever wonder" is packaged as a children's book, this book's message is truly meaningful for people of all ages.

The message to our children is simple--I love you, and God loves you. We are on your side, and you are special. You are deeply loved. Come to us, and we will be here for you.

As I sat down to read this book to my daughter while she sat contentedly in my lap, I really almost cried. "Just in Case you ever wonder" is a precious book that should be in every home's library.

This book will likely be more appealing to older toddlers than to younger toddlers since the illustrations aren't as bright and colorful. We will absolutely treasure this book. I know it will be a perfect bedtime story as my daughter grows older. I give this book my highest recommendation and suggest it as a perfect gift for children and expectant parents.

I loved this book just as I expected. I almost cried through the whole thing. It not only covers that God made everything, but it always tells them that they are special, not only to you but are unlike every other person in the world. That is a great message to send to a child. Every single paragraph in the book reminded me of my kids growing up. It also reminded me that time goes fast but I will always be there for them. I love it. Hayden liked the book too. I asked him what he thought about the book and he told me that he was special and so was everyone else. And of course that we love him. I can't wait until he can read it to me. I recommend picking this book up and reading it to your child or grandchild... no matter how old they are.

As a Kindergarten teacher, I would recommend that this book be read in full to the older child who is entering first grade but told to younger children while they look at the pictures. That would allow you to leave out the portion about leaving one another to not upset the child. You could end it by saying God and I will love you forever. I realize death is real and that is something a parent should handle delicately when speaking to a young child about.

It is not the teacher's job to do this at school either. Several years ago we had a senior killed in car wreck on the way to school. I did not mention it to my students all day as I did not want to approach the topic of death with them. Before the day was over, I found myself in the mist of a quandary. A grandparent came into my room while I had gone to the restroom and told my children about the accident. WOW! I don't remember how I handled it but I prayed for the words to say. Luckily, not many of the students knew the girl as she drove to school.

This book is a wonderful way to let your child know that God is loving, understanding and will take care of them when they leave this earth. It is a book that reassures we adults of His love and the love that we give to our children as unconditional.

It is a beautifully illustrated book and well written by Max.

Oh, I love this book, and I Love my 3 year old asks for it every night. It's such a wonderful story, about how you (his parents) will always love him, even as he grows up and changes, even when his grades are bad, and his teacher is mad. :) Even when he sees monsters in the closet (which my son always points out, Monsters are only pretend mommy) and that God made us and he loves us, too. we also love You are special about the Wemmicks and Punichello. I don't know if my son really "gets it", but it makes Mommy cry EVERY time. Get this book and You are special and you'll love reading it and cuddling with your child before prayers and night night time. We love it!

First published in 1992, Just In Case You Ever Wonder, by Max Lucado, a winner of ECPA's Medallion of Excellence, has been warming the hearts of children as well as adults for over a decade. Inspired by the author's bedtime promises to his own daughters when they were younger, the message of a parent's unconditional love for their child is eloquently conveyed in this charming children's book.

My own children love to be read to; so, when I sat down with this book, they eagerly joined me for story time. While the book didn't quite capture the undivided attention of my two-year old, my four-year old loved the book and stopped me several times to discuss the book. They both loved the wonderful illustrations provided by Toni Goffe. The artwork on the book cover alone is particularly captivating and the illustrations throughout the book were quite effective in furthering the author's perspective.

In the last few pages of the book, the author's introduction of the basic concept of eternal life in Heaven and the Christian parent's responsibility of conveying the Gospel to our children was basic enough to be understood by my children as well as an inspiration to me.

I would absolutely recommend the book as a great addition to any children's library.

Just In Case you wonder is a beautiful hard cover book with simple pictures but a profound story about a parents love for their children. It also can be used to relate to how much God loves us. A reminder for your child of Who made them. Reminds us as parents to be there for our children and take time to invest in them and their heart.

The story talks about situations and feelings that many children have and how parents are always there for them. It is a great way to open up a discussion with your child and affirm them and their thoughts and feelings. So cuddle up with your children, take your time and read this touching story with them.

This is my first review for a childrens book and I am so glad I did this. I can`t wait to read it to my little boys!

One disappointment though was the page about monsters. My toddlers do not even know what these are and I did not want to expose them to them.

Just in Case You Ever Wonder is a book I think my daughter will appreciate more in the years to come. It's not the best book for a 17-month-old to sit still through, but the message is very powerful. It tells your child that no matter what happens as they grow, you will always be there for them and will always love them. "I'll always love you. I'll always hug you. I'll always be on your side. And I want you to know that... just in case you ever wonder." The images are in soft colors, which again I think will appeal to my daughter more when she's older.

Overall, it's a book that I personally appreciate very much, but will need to wait a couple of years for my daughter to appreciate it.

This book was given to my through Thomas Nelson's BookSneeze program in exchange for my honest review of the work.

Max Lucado writes and endearing assurance to his child about how much love he has for him/her and takes this all the way into an even further assurance of eternal togetherness through faith in Christ.

My 5-year-old daughter's usually protest when I tell them I'm going to read this at bedtime, but it never fails, they are both smiling up at me by the time we get through these few short pages.

This is an excellent way to say something to your children that maybe you never knew how to before. At least, that's what it was for me.

Let me start by saying that I LOVE MAX LUCADO BOOKS!!!

However this one fell short of LOVE fro me. It started out great but somehow it missed a few very important factors. One thing it was missing was there are no little boys in this book. I chose this book due to the fact that I have 2 boys and thought this would be a great book for them. I had trouble explaining why the author only chose to have little girls in it.

No one gets tired of hearing how special they are, especially children...trust me, I don't ever hear it so I make sure my boys do and believe that they are special, not only to me but to God as well.

Plus I wonder why he doesn't mention Jesus when it comes to getting into Heaven. Maybe Mr. Lucado needs to refresh his memory and reread his Bible.

This book also seems to make promises that NO ONE can make except for God!!!

I hope my son knows how much not only I, but how much the Lord loves him. Although this book is written for parents to read to their young children and I am a mother of a 20 year old ,I didn't let it stop me from reciting parts of it to him like "But as you grow and change some things will remain the same... I'll always love you... I'll always be on your side...and I want you to know that... just in case you ever wonder." I believe that no matter how young or old you are, a person needs to hear they are loved. The book is written through a parent sharing with their child that they are there for them from birth through heaven. Not only are they there for them but God is too. To me as a parent that is one of the most important things we can teach or children, God's love. That love is like a parents love, He protects and He is always there... just in case you ever wonder.

A sweet little book that helps to give a child perspective about a father's love. This example of a father's love helps to begin building a bridge of how God also loves them. I enjoyed the way he describes the uniqueness of the child and how God took such pleasure in creating them.I liked the examples of what things could be bad in a child's life and to give them a sense of knowing that father's are there for them even through the hard times. I love that it talks about teaching them about God and heaven. I see this book could become a favorite for our home. Thank you book sneeze for providing this book for us.

My favorite thing to do with books is to give them away. I love to find the perfect book to meet a need, give as a gift or share with a friend. I have given this book away to every person I know who's had a baby in the last 10 years. It's the sweetest story of parents promising to be there and a God who never leaves. Told with Max Lucado simplicity, it leaves the reader reminded that God is love and that people are, too.

I bought this book a long time ago, back when I only had two children. If you haven't read it, you should. It's a great book to reinforce how much you love your children, how much they were wanted and cherished from the beginning.

When my husband deployed for the first time it was very hard on my oldest, who was five at the time. I remember reading this book to him and sharing with him how much his Daddy loved him, "just in case you ever wonder."

After the initial aww I love this book factor, I reread the book from a "would I buy this book for others" perspective. A few things stood out that made me that made my decision a bit of a hard one. It reminded me of the kids book Love You Forever, which isn't necessarily bad, but I wasn't sure if the kids would be able to identify between the two books. It also didn't help that the illustrations were a bit dated in my perspective. I again read the book and felt like something was missing then I realized that it was like two books in one so in the end felt unfinished.

In the end, the kids loved it and i got more teary eyed while I was reading it to the kids themselves. I would give this as a gift to other parents. My daughter was captivated by the book. Overall a great kids book.

My daughter is a very bright. She had just turned three, and mortality (mine in particular) hit her very hard. I was talking with her about my grandmother, and she asked me where she had gone. I said, she died honey, she's with God. But I want to meet her. The res of the conversaion went "Am I going to die mommy? Are you are going to die Mommy? But I will miss you when you die mommy" followed by a sobbing 3 year old (quite the sensitive little soul.)
Well, I tried to explain that God put me here to take care of her, and that I loved her and he loved her, and I'd be around as long as she needed me, and that no matter what I'd love her, but I didn't feel like my words conveyed everything that should be said.
About a month later, I was at a religous book store picking up a first communion gift. I asked the woman working a the store if she had anything for my daughter. She recommended Just In Case You Ever Wonder to me. I read it in the very crowded store and started crying my eyes out (hmmm, sensitive mommy, sensitive daughter?)
My only complaint is the page with the monster on it...daughter's imagination get's a little over worked by things like that, and it doesn't make for the best bed time story in our house.

This is a wonderful story depicting a great message. What a reassuring lesson that God and a child's parents will always be there for them.

This is quite a 'wordy' book, so it didn't keep my 10month old's attention for long but I know that this will be a great one when she's older.

It did bother me that the only image of feeding the baby in this book is with a bottle. I'd like to have seen the mother breastfeeding.

This is an excellent childrens' book. I remember first getting it when I was very little and my mom reading it to me. I read it constantly. Even today, being 12, I'll still sometimes pull it out of the bookshelf in my house and read it. Max Lucado is an excellent writer-for Childrens' and Adults books. Believe me, I've read both his childrens and adults books. They are all excellent. I highly recommend buying this for your child.

Let me start by saying I've enjoyed Max Lucado stories and books, but I am about to throw this one in the trash, not even give it to friends, relatives or Goodwill so someone else would read it. I didn't "pre-read" this one, after all, it was a noted Christian author and looks like a beautiful book. However, it is definitely meant for possibly a preteen or teenager, however, the book is a thick hardboard book that you would think was meant for preschoolers. I got this as a gift and my 4 and 5 year old asked me to read it to them. They became stuck on the page with the ominous "monsters in the shadows" picture that has a dark tree with gnarly arms and forboding eyes peering out. Not something you want for a bedtime story. On the page before it also talks about dark nights when you hear noises in your closet (along with a picture of a coat and hat with what looks like glowing sunglasses.) I don't like to put ideas in my children's minds that their might be dark things in the closet, and this book will do the opposite. We pray at night and get in a good atmosphere that is conducive to sleeping. An older child (10+) might understand, but definitely not a younger child. After passing thru the scary tree / closet pages, I had to spend time convincing the children that trees do not have faces, and there is nothing to fear, Mommy and Daddy are here and the Lord protects them and watches over them. --in fact--I just got down putting the 4 year old back in bed because she came out here scared again.

This was dedicated to Max's daughters, and to me, it should have stayed a private book to them, not meant for public. It's not an innately bad book, it is just not a book for toddlers and there are so many other better Christian stories out there. Sorry, 2 big thumbs down for me.

This is a beautiful, hardback book. The story is really beautiful and I look forward to reading it to my children as it establishes God's heart for them and how much He loves them and is a part of their world. Children need to hear this message and hear it often.

The illustrations in the book are average. They are fairly simple watercolours, nothing outstanding in my opinion.

I believe books like this are powerful is growing children's perspective of God and Christian worldview. I would definitely recommend this book for any parent wanting to instill more of God into their kids. It's a keeper!

My sister gave this book to me after buying one for her own children. I am usually a little leary of how books could be interpreted by my son (that was adopted). As a grandmother of six I found this book an excellent way to help introduce parting to my little grand children who's paternal great-grandmother and paternal grandfather both died last year within six months of each other. My six year old and three year old grand-daughters had to face death. What a better way than to teach a love that lasts forever.

This book is not just for parents with children, but grandparents for their special little ones.

I highly recommend this book and You Are Special (another Max Lucado book) for all grandparents.

This book has really excellent, meaningful text. The illustrations are pretty. However, the text is too long and the pictures too pastel for young babies to appreciate. This book is more suitable for ages 2 and up; even the text talks about the baby being big now and not a baby anymore, which implies a child well into toddlerhood.

I cried the first time I read it & it still gets me teary. It says what I just can't seem to find the words for. A great book to establish/reinforce to your children, grandchildren or any child in your life that they are valued, appreciated and so very special to you and God. My Granddaughter who is eight now, just recently found out that this book isn't actually about her. She thought it was, because as early as she could remember, I would insert her name in it as I would read it to her. This book has so touched her little heart that it's her favorite bedtime book request when over. I have now purchased her an additional copy for her to have at her home. Everyone needs to hear that they are special, valued and loved! A must have for every home with children!

Everytime I read this to my child I am reminded of how much I adore her and how God blessed us with her. This book expresses that love to my daughter and helps me tell her that I will always be there for her, always love her, always take care of her. I remember books that my parents and grandparents read to me as a child and I'm sure my daughter will remember this one- I hope it really comes back to her on those hard days when she is scared or hurt- to know she is loved and cherished.

It is a wonderful book!

This was my introduction to author Max Lucado and it's amazing that anything he has written has compared since (though he's failed to disappoint me yet!). I purchased it when my daughter was four years old and now that she's 6, its simple comforting message that both parent and God are looking after her has not gotten old for either of us. "Just In Case You Ever Wonder" brings tears to my eyes when I read it to my daughter and it brings such comfort to her when she hears it. I'm not quite sure for what audience this "bedtime story" is intended -- the child doing the listening or the parent doing the reading!

This book is such a wonderful book for parents to read to their children - natural born and adopted. My husband and I do foster care for drug affected infants and will be sending one to each one of the babies that we have had in our home and that have moved either into an adoptive home or back to their biological parents. I think that it is so important for children - especially these children to know that they were put on this earth by God for a purpose and that not only will I always love them, but more importantly God will always love them. The best line in this book is about the "hug". Now you have to buy the book to see what I mean. God Bless!

I read this book after giving birth to my 4 month old son. We had been dealing with my two year olds jealousy. I felt guilty for having to punish him for every little thing (so it seemed). I read it and just about cried. It was everything stored in my heart for my child and now children. I bought it for my two year old to read and keep for his children. I must say I have NEVER had a book touch me like this one. Max, you truely were given a talent and you have used it well. That is the only book I have ever read from Max. I look forward to reading more!!!!

This book has so touched my heart that I have found myself giving it as a gift for baby showers, graduations, baptisms, and confirmations. It gives words to the unconditional love that is so hard to express to a child...of any age.

I bought this book based on an the store recommendation and upon reading all the wonderful reviews. I wrapped it up and gave it to our 6 year old for Christmas without having read it first. On Christmas morning when she unwrapped it she wanted me to read it right away...I did with no problems until I got half way through it and got so choked-up that I could hardly finish!! It's right up there with "I'll Love You Forever" in my book!! A must have to remind yourself and your children how much you love them...no matter what.

Let me start by saying I've enjoyed Max Lucado stories and books, but I am about to throw this one in the trash, not even give it to friends, relatives or Goodwill so someone else would read it. I didn't "pre-read" one, after all, it was a noted Christian author and looks like a beautiful book.

My father passed away this year. During the Christmas season I found this book by chance. I couldn't get through it without crying right there in the store. It reminded me of all the love my father had given me in life and how he will be there when I get to heaven some day. I bought it for my two children and it has fast become my favorite and most cherished book. I would recommend it not only for baby showers but when someone passes away too. It was a great comfort to me.

This book has touched a special place in my heart. It expresses all the sincere, encouraging and loving thoughts all children should grow up hearing. It leaves me in tears whenever I read it. It is one of the best books I have ever read. It is appropriate for all children at all stgaes of life. My family and I recently adopted a little boy. This book continues to inspire us and remind us of the special job we have been chosen to perform.
Good job Mr. Lucado! The illustrator also did a great job.

I purchased this book three years ago @ Christmas. I gave a copy to my 7 year old son and my 20 year old daughter. The words in this book express my deep love I have for both of my children. It says everything I feel and have never been able to put into words. I don't care if your child is 2 or 92 this book is a treasure to give at any age.

In a world where both parents work and children are neglected, children need to know they have someone to turn to at anytime. Children need a relationship with God. When I read this book, I thought, "What a great message to tell boys and girls that they are loved unconditionally by God."

This is by far the nicest book I ever read. With weekly visits to the book store and library I have read my fair share of childrens books, this is the most beautiful and touching book I have read. The first few times I read it I actually had a hard time reading it because I was getting choked up. I give it as gifts and everyone I have given it to have said that they love it. It has just the right amount of religion. I highly recommand this book.

What a lovely little book!! I am buying copies of this and On the Day you Were Born for all my friends' and relatives' new babies. It beautifully puts into words the depth of feeling that comes with being a parent. I can see my little ones reading this even as teenagers as a way to remember their childhood and the sweet feelings we have shared together. let's your kids know that you will ALWAYS love them- no matter what happens.

This is a wonderful book and helps to give a special connection to your child about loving them. I bought this as an extra present for my oldest son's 16th birthday...together, we thought it was *precious* Today he is married with a child of his own and he reads it to her. Children's books aren't always for the little ones. I hope you enjoy this as much as we have.

My 2 year old became too interested in the scary shadowy ghost like figure in the book. She would just sit and stare at it. Shortly after this she started having trouble sleeping. I ended up throwing it away. There are so many better books for parents who want to raise their children Christian. See my reviews for better options.

This book was given to my 5 yr old for her birthday. I hadn't read it before and as I started to read it to her that night I got a knot in my throat and my eyes welled up...it is a GREAT book! My little girl loves it and it's just an overally beautiful story of God's love for us and reiterating to your child how they can always depend on you and your love for them.

I read this book to my son last night. It's everything I've always told him about love and God and heaven, but he was thrilled to see it actually in writing! The ending of the book is the best - my son reminded me that my mom, his grandmom, is in heaven waiting for me. Hard to get through with dry eyes!

After reading the other rave reviews, I thought I would buy a copy for a gift and one for myself. I have a 4 year old boy, and I would not read this book to him. I think the ending talks about death more than I would want to at his age. I asked a very religious friend to see if she would like it better than I did. However, she felt the same way. The beginning is sweet, the ending is not.

We have the boardbook version of this book and my three children love to snuggle around their us when we read this to them. It makes each child feel very special and loved to know that God chose us to be their parents and to know that we will always be there for them.

I cannot say enough about this book. I found it in the store today and had to sit on the floor and read it to my child then and there. It brought tears to my eyes. In todays world, children need to hear how special they are on a consistent basis. They also need to hear about Gods love for them. This book is the best childrens book I have ever read.

This is one of my favorite books. As you read it to your child, you are letting them know how unique and special they are to you and to God. At the end of the book, you promise you will be with them in Heaven, so you are promising to live a life putting Jesus first!!

This book is absolutely wonderful and straight from the heart. Your child will always know that you love him/her no matter what and you will always be there. That is so important to a child. This book is well written and will be a standard gift for anyone I know having a baby.

Ok, I'll be the one to do it. I gave this book 1 star. I just want people to be aware and purchase at their own risk because like some of the other reviewers, I couldn't read it to my child after the first time. The monster part put ideas into my child's head. I LOVE the story otherwise. I though maybe I could rip out that page but it wrecks the flow. How in the world is a lovely book supposed to be read over and over when there is a terrifying page in the middle of it????

Lots of things are written for children about God...I have to say this book and my book I illustrated: DOES GOD KNOW HOW TO TIE SHOES, written by Nancy White Carlstrom, are on the mark, with answers to children's questions about God. You will be able to fine my book also at my website: EslickART.com

Thank you,

I was quite disappointed that the only image of feeding a baby in this book (at least in the edition I have) was one of a mom bottle feeding. Given that this is a Christian book, I would have at least expected breastfeeding to have been given equal time as God invented breastfeeding. I will not be reading this to my child as I do not want him to get the impression that bottle feeding is the norm. I understand that people chose to bottle feed for various reasons, but would have at least expected breastfeeding to be represented in this book.
