This is absolutely the best book to read about children with autism. The author shares her experiences and is very in-tune with her child. I bought several copies to hand out to family to help them understand a beautiful autistic child in our family. Very good and easy read.

I read this book with great interest in seeing...or trying to comprehend what my two autistic children feel. Just reading the introduction I was struck by how many things can affect them...amazing. It will be required reading for my daughter and sons who live with their two brothers, my husband, my parents and all his aunts and uncles. It is important to understand what these kids are dealing with.

Fourth quarter 2010: two of our three sons are diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
First quarter 2011: Dad, with a new stack of books on autism in his office, chooses the one on the top to read.
Time will tell if that was a fortuitous or unfortunate choice, but this book makes sense as I related it to Jonah and Evan, now 9 and 7 respectively. There is a lot of food for thought for the parent in our situation now, and some ideas to try. Perhaps it would be a good idea to check back and re-rate the book in a few years, but it seemed like a good place for the parent just struggling with this issue to begin.
As a Bible-believing Christian the last story about the author's experience with a psychic was very off-putting, but I'll try not to hold that against her.

I love this book and have recommended it to everyone I know. It was so incredibly helpful right after we got the diagnosis. Even though our child did not display all of the same characteristics of her son, I was able to relate and better understand what was going on. And she was very clear on her goal for her son, which helped us see the goal for our child too and see which way to go. It was easy to understand and relate able.

My son was recently diagnosed with Autism. Our extended family was very confused and didn't know what to think. I went thru this book and high lighted the helpful things that applied to my son. This book is very simple for any level to read. A must have!

I have a client/ friend who is an autism specialist. I was so inspired by her work and dedication that I wanted to learn more. As a clairvoyant, I am interested in picking up the unspoken language of autistic individuals.

This book touched my soul. It explained so many things about my children's behavior that I just didn't understand until now. I am so moved, I am buying additional copies of this book as end of year presents for my sons ABA teachers! I think a poster of the "Ten Things" should be up in every school in America! Can't wait to read more of Ellen's work. I highly recommend this book to everyone!

Very easy read but more informative than any I have read. Opened my eyes to things that I never realized or as my wife says 'we knew that but never realized that we did.' Most books on autism are detailed and often too complicated for average readers to understand. This book summarizes ten very important issues from the perspective of an autistic child in clear, easy to understand terms. Anyone who deals with autistic children in any capacity must read this book. I have a grandson with autism and I want my other grandchildren to read this book too.

My mother has temporary custody of my neice's child who is a lil fellow who happens to be special needs child. This ready-easy reference has raised our awareness of what he's thinking and gives apparent clues and answers to how he behaves.

Absolutely must have book for a BASIC and clear view of dealing with autistic kids. Gave one to all of our immediate family, now they say they "get it". They interact with and understand my daughter so much better now. I (and she) no longer dread family holidays and gatherings. Easy to read and understand. HIGHLY recommended.

Fabulous book. Gave a more comprehensive way to reach some understanding from a non- clinical perspective. As a educator, I felt the new ways the book has taught me to look at things, (eg.reasons for behaviour etc) will be useful for all children I engage with. Who better to write it then one who lives through it every day.
Thank you for being brave enough to share your stories to benefit others. I'm confident it already is helping others in a vast range of ways. WHAT AN EXCITING PIECE OF WRITING!!!!

In The book Ten Things Every Child Wishes You Knew. You will find that it explains the sensory challanges in basic english. So if you do not know what sensory challenges are this book will be a great help to you.I wish I could have read this book when my daughter was first diagnosed with autism.

I bought this book immediately after my son was diagnosed. After reading it, I ordered copies for everyone in his life. Grandparents. Friends. Preschool teacher. OT. SLP. Everyone. Read it several times - and use it as a reference guide. Good good good stuff!

My son was just diagnosed with Austic Spectrum Disorder at the age of 12. I love this book as it's easy to read and understand. One of my biggest problems is that I was expecting more from my son because of his age, and this book really helped me to understand what he can't tell me himself.

I really thought this book was very informative. It made alot of
things more clear and I understood afew my grandsons behaviors more.

I would definitely recomend this book to anyone with an autistic child, and
even to the schools that handle autistic children.

This book is very easy to read and well organized. I'm a grad student studying speech pathology, and I bought this book so I could better understand ASD and better serve this population in the future. I enjoyed reading this and would recommend it highly.

This book has become my lifesaver so many times! I can't say enough about how encouraging it is, informative and easy to read! I highly recommend this book to any mom, dad, professional, and especially family members who need to see autism through our children's eyes!

My great grandchild is five years old and is soon to be tested in school (head start) for what they are classifying as "disability". This book has helped me to take a new perspective on his learning abilities and hopefully be able to be a better teacher and encourager.

I bought this book because of the other reviews, so I thought I would add my "2 cents". Even though I had already read other material that gave me a basic understanding of autism, this book takes the clinical aspect out and puts the human aspect in. My husband, who does not prefer to read about autism because of the negative focus of most material, actually read and enjoyed this book and I can tell that it helped to increase his understanding of our son's needs. This is a must-have for those who have family members that "don't get" your loved one with autism and why they do the things they do. Excellent.

GREAT book for friends and family members who either just want to understand what your child has been diagnosed with or, as sometimes unfortunately is the case, NEEDS to understand what your child is going through and why they behave differently than the societal "norms" and that their behavior is not misbehavior but rather just different behavior.
