My 2 year old grand daughter started her independent 2's. This is a good book to read and talk about feelings and how to handle them appropriately. It is not wordy and easy to get through. They can relate.

I bought this book for my grandson and will deliver it (and read it to him) when I visit. I love the pictures and I think it will be most enjoyable for a three-year-old. I also bought another Mercer Mayer book because the illustrations are excellent.

Mercer Mayer knows about bumps in the road of life and can help young folk accept the fact that "there will be days like this". He brings humor and problem-solving techniques to children and makes them aware that they are not the only people who don't always get what they want all of the time. The illustrations, especially Little Critter's facial expressions, are so explicite they provide all sorts of discussions. Best of all, kids get the message that it is okay to be mad - you just have to express your anger in an acceptable fashion. I taught Pre K and Kindergarten for 33 years and relied on Mercer Mayer's books for reading comprehension skills as well as the message. This book was purchased for my grandson's 4th birthday.

My kids and I usually love Little Critter books, but this book talks about running away. I'd rather not put that idea in the mind of my 4 year old, thus we will not be using this book. May be ok for older children, but we are going to have to pass on this Critter story.

Terrible book. In the book the child gets angry and tries to run away. Until he gets his way on something. Then holds off running away until the next time he is told no. Terrible message - "if I don't get my way I'll just run away"

Nice illustrations, as is usual with the Mayer series, and a couple of chuckles in this one. I suggest you pass on this one, though. I'm not sure what the lesson is other than 'anger is a transitory and highly situational emotion that can be handled by distraction and change of environment.' Although this is not a bad lesson (and it is one that is certainly difficult to communicate), I do not like how Little Critter decides to run away from home because he is angry. Now, that may be a realistic response from a certain age group, but I don't want to condone escapism in any form with my children--not to mention that running away from home is an absolutely horrible idea. So, I usually skip reading this one because of this concern. I recommend you do the same.

I LOVED the Little Critter books when I was younger and was so excited to order them for my daughter so I can read them to her now. This one was one of my favorites. It's supposed to be FUNNY people. Those that are reviewing the book saying that it's terrible are a bit ridiculous. Growing up I thought it was funny. It didn't teach me to disobey or run away from my parents. Highly recommend all of these. They're fun reads!

Not only does my three year old absolutely adore these books, but all four of my daughters enjoyed them as small children. I've found them to be charming and well drawn, each one dealing with a normal part of life for a child.

This one shows the child critter being mad because everything (destructive) he tries to do his parents tell him no, but when he asks to go play, he's allowed to do that...which makes him AND his parents happy. :)
