I loved this book. Loved, loved, loved it. Someday I will use it in storytime. It is a perfect example for ECRR-talk. The labelling that is used for lifting, carrying, mixing, scooping, etc is awesome. It's a beautiful vocabulary builder--"towed terrifically," "carried carefully," dumped dependably," "mixed marvelously." I also put this on the "play" shelf because although the trucks are all working, it's a lot of fun and I can picture kids playing this story while reading it. At one point I wondered if someone decided to cram as many early literacy skills into a picture book as possible--in a good way. However it came about, whether it just sprang from the creative brain of the author or she researched and knows well all the early literacy skills and practices,(I suspect there's some of both, here) this is a phenomenal book that hits the mark. Often when you can tell someone is writing for the purpose of fulfilling an agenda other than telling a great story, you can tell. It often falls flat and feels preachy (ahem, Madonna?) This is not the case here! It is a great, fun book that I think kids are going to love. And it will be fun for parents and caregivers to read, too.

I would be surprised if this one doesn't make it to at least the short list for one of the CLEL Bells this year (and not just because I'm on the committee!)

We checked this book out from the library, and now that it's due back I had to buy it. My son LOVES it. He "reads it" on his own, quotes it while playing with his toys, and parts of it have become inside jokes in our family.

I love that it teaches traffic safely without even trying. When we are at a stop light, I now ask him to look for "little green" so that we can "GO!" and if we see "little red" we know to "STOP!" and wait.

I also love the fact that this book is not really gendered, I imagine that any little girl who is into construction would love it just as much as my son does. Clever story, delightful illustrations.

Awesome book for beginning talkers on up unto Kindergarden. Learn vocabulary in a fun way. It's use of Alliterations and action words are why I bought the book, after first checking it out from the library!!

My daughter love this author's cupcake book so much that I looked up another one. Sure enough this one has also become a favorite of ours. The story is very clever with a green light and stop light learning how to work together. Great illustrations too!
