This is an awesome beginning for an adventure which is altogether delightful. I was immediately hooked, and very soon realized that this would rate highly among my all-time favorites. I was not far into it before I ordered the second volume. But I could not go there before immediately re-reading the first volume.

And then I couldn't wait to begin it!

Joshua is a very talented writer with a perfect sense of humor. I'm on the 3rd book in this series and they've all been just delicious. His stories are well balanced, detailed, well researched, and just funny enough to make me laugh out loud on occasion. Well done, Joshua. I'll be buying more of your books in the future.

This start out pretty much what you expect but as the story goes on it changes for the better. The hero is someone you could relate to. He lives by doing the right thing even if he has to risk his life. Looking out for the underdog. Looking forward to the continuation of the story in book 2. Great entertainment.

Well this was a good solid space adventure. It reminded me of Flash Gordon. Lots of action. This is a story about misfit aliens and a human thrown together to destroy evil no matter where in the universe it may be. Light reading and enjoyed the story.

Every author of fiction, no matter the genre, must inspire a suspension of disbelief in their readers. That gets pretty "iffy" in this first book of the Omega series. The overall concept has been done and redone: Earth warrior encounters Alien Intelligence in a wilderness area. Winds up in control of said alien's starship. Proceeds on great adventures in outer space.

This type of science fiction began with Jules Verne, was continued by Edgar Rice Burroughs, and probably reached it's zenith in the works of E.E. "Doc" Smith. Those offerings were, at the time, given the status of the old "penny dreadfuls", and were very easy to write because the authors could assign any kind of oulandish pseudo-science to their story arcs that they could think up in their fevered imaginations. They got away with this because physics and such might as well have been Sanskrit to their readers. Basically, they didn't know any better. Thus, a man crawling into a mysterious cave in Arizona could wake up on Mars with super powers. I'm not dis'ing the Barsoom books. I love every one of them, just as I love Tarzan, the Lensmen, the 1920's heroes of Smith's Skylark series, and the excellent, if somewhat juvenile, fiction written by Andre Norton. The characters they introduced to us came from a simpler time, and the stories that brought them to us reflected that. I appreciate that. Of course, I also appreciate the works of Asimov, Brin, Heinlein, Clarke, Dalmas and the more modern authors that combine hypothetical extension of current technologies with believable, but complicated, characters and societies.

Mr. Dalzelle's effort here tests suspension of disbelief in a different direction: the interaction of the main protagonist with aliens that populate the ET universe he finds outside the Sol system. Very black and white, no gray areas. Some of them are bad guys, some of them are good guys. Jason Burke, the human who encounters them, is a good guy...of course.

In this first book, there's not much character development. Burke springs forth as a full-grown hero and you don't learn much about him in this first book. You certainly don't learn much of anything about the crew he picks up along the way, except that they are good guys and loyal to Burke 5 minutes after they meet him.

As indicated by the 4 star rating, I like this book. You might, too...if you can overcome your tendency to roll your eyes at some of the character interactions.

I came upon this series after having read the first of the "Warship" trilogy. The differences between that book and this one will leave you wondering if it's really the same author. In "Warship", the basis of future science, the framework of Galactic politics, and the depth of the characters seem to reflect the author's growth...to the point where he is a legitimate author of hard science fiction.

I look forward to continuing with the Omega series. I think it gives the reader a chance to travel with Mr. Dalzelle as he matures as an author.

Some parts Firefly, some parts Spinward Fringe, without the operatic feel of the former or the grim negativity of the latter. A team forms from unlikely circumstances, and tries (and succeeds) in making the galaxy a better place. Overall a good space romp. The characters are well-developed, the story is crisp, and the editing is nicely done. I like it!

Bought the book because the description sounded interesting. Found the concept fascinating and enjoyed the time spent. As in many "space operas" the hero is pretty lucky to have survived. The hero's consideration about the ethical dealings with his compatriots was very good (that's what piqued my interest to get the second book in the series).

Great to find good old fashioned soldiers of fortune, a moral point of view and a perfectly straight-up affect that has virtually disappeared from the genre. Great lessons from species-tolerance rather than racial tolerance.

Another well written space opera. The alpha & the omega (pun intended). This was very easy to read and very hard for mr to put down. Kind of sad when it was finished. Joshua was able to make aliens into Bob & Joe, while keeping them aliens. Very few misprints. I am looking forward to the next Omega Rising book.

I returned this book unread. It was printed extremely poorly, the worst I've ever seen out of the store's CreateSpace self-publishing platform – the author clearly doesn't care about books as physical products. The entire book appears to be a poorly formatted Word doc, in tiny Arial font (!), just thrown into whatever system the store provides, with no attempt to make it a properly formatted, readable book.

The lack of page numbers is a dealbreaker for me because I like to memorize what page I left off on, instead of using bookmarks. The tiny Arial font makes the book even harder to read. These big compromises in the physical quality of the product would be too distracting for me to be able to enjoy the book, so I returned it. The author also needs to hire an editor – there are some serious goofs and typos that should never have made it into the final print.

Self-published books don't have to be junky. Dennis E. Taylor is a good example of another sci-fi author who is self-publishing on the very same the store platform, but his books have page numbers, a nice, readable serif font in the right size for a trade paperback, etc. I don't know why Dalzelle doesn't care about the quality of his books.

This book is in desperate need of an editor. Many technical issues as well as malapropisms, such as using "bespoke" when talking about people speaking, or "wondering" when people are wandering around.
The story itself is a bit pulpish, without any of the sexiness that made pulp fiction successful. The protagonist's character shifts dramatically, with great frequency, throughout this piece. After the initial dubious start of the story, it proceeds with a "there are no other options" direction, which sets our protagonist up for the second half of the novel, where he is finally able to make his own decisions. From the mid-point on wards the motives of the characters become more and more inscrutable, with characters forming an instant camaraderie after only a line or two of dialogue (or an instant suspicion that proves accurate, citing special 'character reading' powers). The action of the novel, while fast paced, is effortless and hardly gets a rise out of our heroes. Their two major operations doesn't even result in our mains breaking a sweat. In fact, once we've given the ship a crew and the lead is in charge of it, all obstacles of any sort are completely nullified easily and quickly, including instant alien knowledge, just add water (or nano-tech).
The end wrap up sees these characters transform into a cartoonish space-version of the A-Team. Clearly they are off to enforce their version of justice on the dark and lawless universe. They are simply missing masks, capes and an earnest red headed boy saying "Gee Willikers!".

For less than $1, this story isn't the worst purchase out there. It also isn't the finest space opera available. This reads like the first story written by a high school student. It is a good effort and is somewhat entertaining, but definitely not a place the author should remain, as a writer. There are many lessons this author can learn about pacing, character development, story plots and the importance of an editor from this particular piece. This is a reasonable first novel, but hopefully this author aspires to much, much more.

As a positive note, this author is talented at writing combat, pacing wise. Many authors zip through their combat scenes, leaving important details out, or spend all day describing the tiniest details making the reader anxious and uncomfortable. This author has managed to land nicely in between, getting the combat pacing spot on. However, the actions within the combat need more work (as again, every action taken by the heroes was effortless, making for very short combat sequences).

I really liked the story and the characters. Yeah it's a little unbelievable at times, but that's part of a great story teller. It kept my turning the pages from the get go. LIked it enough to download the next book in the series and am reading that now. If you like a good space exploration story, its a good read for you.

I liked this story from Joshua Daizelle very much. The scope of this story is over and beyond most others in character portrayal and many different alien species incorporated into this accidental abduction first contact story. I highly recommend this entertainment to you. W.D. Wall

I like science fiction with technical background, swashbuckling fun and adventure with out Boogeymen in Space, or, blood and Gore. I enjoyed the way the story developed and characters were added. Thanks for not including monsters that can't be killed. I'm looking forward to reading the next installment.

Good characters and story line and easy to read,it got a little off track hear and there with the story lacking a bit more detail tending to rush through when a little embellishment would have been better especially around the characters, other than that I am looking forward to the next instalments.

We all wonder "What's out there?". Joshua Dalzelle tells you in "Omega Rising". I thoroughly enjoyed this book with its fun cast of characters and and otherworldly setting. Looking forward to the sequel.
Would have rated 4 stars but too many grammatical errors.

If you're looking for an entertaining and easy to read science fiction saga, this is a good series (I've only read the first two so far). This is, essentially, the A-Team in space. Don't look too deeply for scientific validity to this work. Although the author makes an attempt at keeping to the science, some license was taken to allow the story telling to proceed.

Excellent, well written. This writer knows how to tell a story. Lots of action, and funny at times. Unlike some writers this one knows how to impart a sense of honor in his hero. I am anxiously waiting for the sequel.

Very well written and thought out space adventure. I'm very definitely looking forward to finishing the series to see where these adventures lead. Really liked the wildly different characters that were very well developed in words and actions.

So if you're looking for some light science fiction action adventure, then this is the book for you. The main protagonist is a modern day military veteran that is kidnapped into helping an alien. The story builds from there, introducing what is ultimately an intergalactic A Team. If you're looking for a book that offers an escape for a fair price, then this is your bag.

The characters were well defined and the action was easy to follow The concepts were believable if fantastic, but that is the idea to stretch your version of what is possible. I hope Mr. Dalzelle keeps on producing this quality I read a lot of this genre and look forward to his next offering.

I bought this with few preconceived notions. While the plot moved rather quickly it was pretty good fun reading it. Also I found few if any of the grammar errors normally found in inexpensive kindle books. I liked it enough to purchase followup book, hope it is as much fun.

The story started well and it was soon evident that this was in the style of a good old-fashioned space opera. I was looking for a light read and this seemed to fit the bill. However, once the textural and grammatical errors started creeping in I found myself editing the book rather than enjoying the story. It was as though the book had missed out on the final proof-read prior to being published.

This is a decent book that kept me interested and was not too long, often very long books boor me. Its worth picking up and I do not say that about many books.

The only reason I gave it a 4 is because the last 50 pages or so are very rushed.

Absolutely wonderful book! I couldn't put it down and just had to buy the next one! Unfortunately, they are ALL great. So, instead of having a series to read for the summer, I have burned through all 8 books in a single month. Every book is a page turner. Great job, Mr. Dalzelle!

First time review for me. I purchased many books through the store and wanted to review but always seemed a little disappointed. Books need a beginning and an ending. It can be a long series but I need a stopping point in the story. If I decide to purchase the next book in the series I don't want to feel like I'm still looking for the ending. I like to start another adventure, another chapter in the characters life, this book didn't leave me hanging on until the next book. Great story, good guys, bad guys, and they get what they deserve.

I have read a great many Science Fiction novels available on Kindle and this was one of the most enjoyable. I would recommend it to anyone interested in the genre who is searching for a light entertaining novel that is well written and a joy to read. Should be a great series.

This book started so down to earth that the unexpected and fantastical aspects that evolved made the book even more original and interesting. It is truly hard to believe where the book ended up but somehow the author pulled it all together. He has an interesting and fast paced style that keep me engaged to the end.

An interesting premise, but the main protagonist did not respond to any situation like any human being I could possibly imagine. Even the Synth, you just let some aggressive scared alien walk around your ship with a rifle?
