Basically a year one redux! This book picks up with one of Batman's first outings, a failure. While he has been trained by the best, he is very much a green super hero.

Lots of things in the mythology have been changed. Alferd is no longer a butler, but was hired by Thomas Wayne as head of security just prior to he and his wife's death. In present time Oswald Cobbelpot (the penguin) is Mayor and is implicated in the Deaths of Thomas and Martha Wayne. Martha Wayne comes from the Arkham family, and it will be interesting to see if future books expand on this mythology, as Batman himself is an Arkham.

For a Batman fan looking on a fresh take on the character this is an awesome read.

This fresh take on Batman really shakes up the classic formula. Old familiar characters have been given new backgrounds, changing what you thought you knew about them. This is a great novel for anyone who loves the caped crusader.

The first volume is alright, sets things up and seems to fly past really quickly.
I would recommend it simply because you should read this one before reading Volume 2 because that one's really good
The Long Halloween (Turtleback School & Library Binding Edition) :: Batman: The Man Who Laughs :: Curse of The Narrows: The Halifax Disaster of 1917 :: The Curse of Madame C (A Far Side Collection) :: Batman: Knightfall, Vol. 1

The book came earlier than what was estimated. I love the book! It is a very unique take on Batman's story, the art is spectacular! Couldn't ask for anything better! If you are a Batman fan, you have to read this book!

Without giving away any spoilers i have to say this was a very interesting take on Batman's origins. The writers here really tried hard to put the concept of a man, dressed up in a bat suit in the real world. Over all i think they did well. Not my favorite batman origins story but over all a good read.

This was a great story spilling and releasing a new kind of style of batman`s origin. This was mostly telling how Bruce Wayne turned into the batman, ready to stop crimes with non lethal attacks. There was a great big change in cobblepot dying, because of the fact he should have became the penguin later on, and not to his death. But still brought something new in batman. If this was part of the new 52 DC Comics, then it would have been perfect, bringing that origin in 52. So out of all, I give this 4 stars, an 8. You should really get this comic. I should also include that Alfred is a much different character, along with the looks, the style, and the past of him doubting Bruce he was ready to be batman. You should really get this comic.

Geoff Jones is wonderful writer. This book does a great job of laying the foundation to build the strong characters of Alfred, Gordon, Fox, Bullock, Barbara except Bruce Wayne/Batman!!!. It shows Bruce as a weakling and Batman as a confused and angry figure with a bad taste in Halloween costumes.
His portrayal of Penguin as a evil and a crude version of an Italian mob "boss" is horrible.
I still have faith in Geoff, let us see what he does in the second volume.

The Batman of a parallel universe. This is a very Frank Miller Year One-esque story. Because it is a parallel universe Batman has a new origin story which is just different enough to be interesting without feeling like it's something that doesn't belong in a Batman story. That's true for this whole book. Everything is different enough that you may not be sure how you feel about the characters and situations when they are first introduced but by the end of the story you will be completely on board. The art and writing are excellent and I'm really looking forward to the next volume in the series.

If you liked Superman & the Legion of SuperHeroes you will love this rework of the Dark Knight. As individuals they're amazing, together they're four color magic. Highly recomend any book that these two work on together. I would rate six star if I could.
