Great story that touches on the discovery of dinosaurs in US and the controversy those discoveries opened. The abuse of the native Americans is also discussed along with the discovery of Gold in the Dakota hills. Good story and well told of a time that we know little about.

This story has everything you expect in a western novel, with the added adventure of digging for dinosaur bones. The story of a spoiled young man quickly growing up through his travels adds to the fun. I recommend this book.

I love archaeology and was surprised and delighted to read about the discovery of the dinosaur bones. If you like the search for historical objects and the events of the Wild West then you will like this book.

Good book, clearly early Crichton.

Not as polished or well developed as his best work.

The ending also felt a little contrived...maybe rushed is a better description.

I'd recommend it, but gave it four stars because I don't want to mislead dedicated Crichton fans.

This is a fascinating account of the search and discovery of dinosaur bones in the late 1800s. It is historically accurate in the portrayal of the scientific discoveries, but also embellished with fictional stories that make the book a more exciting read.

Fast paced and fascinating! Crichton writes like it is history of the most interesting kind. The people are real, interesting and he makes you care what happens! You will cheer for the hero at the end!

Another amazing work of Crichton. I dearly miss his writing and was overjoyed when I saw another book of his was published from his archives. Timeline is my all-time favorite novel of which I’ve read multiple times. If the book has the Crichton name on it, I’ll read it.

This book while written in the typical Crichton pedigree does lack a certain element of detail. There has never been a Crichton book where you don't learn something new this was the case here. But it's still a great read nonetheless. Will recommend it to any Crichton fan or archeology buffs.

Truly a Crichton original. I enjoyed his love of adventure and wit, and as always walked away with a new respect for the science of things millions of years old. Thank you Dr. Crichton for having graced the pages of many wonderful books with your style and intellect!

Once again Mr. Crichton nails it! Bringing fiction to reality. As with all of his books, Michael Crichton tells a story rich with history, facts born from in-depth research and in a page turning tale of two combatants in the search for prehistoric fossils. I have learned something new in just reading his books of fiction. His non-fiction is just as revealing. He is sorely missed.

Nothing amazing, yet I really enjoyed this book. I was left with the feeling of wanting more out of each character and encounter within it. The actual fossil hunting unfortunately felt under used and really wished it and the rivalry was fleshed out more.

Wonderful recreation of a whole aspect of the American frontier untold. A story of Marsh and Cope recreated in a spellbinding fictional narrative that is entertaining and educational. About palentaleogy during the time of Custer's last stand. Loved it.

Dragon Teeth gives Michael Crichton fans one last ride with this wonderful storyteller unless his estate finds some more unpublished works to sell to his publisher. Let's face it, Dragon Teeth doesn't redefine any genre, but it provides fun. It's a historic western wrapped in paleontology. The good guys and bad guys (who are sometimes interchangeable based on circumstance) fight over dinosaur bones. The hero, East Coast rich kid William Johnson, befriends (sort of) and works for real-life fossil hunters Othniel Charles Marsh and Edward Drinker Cope in the Badlands right after Custer's last stand. Oh, Wyatt Earp and his brother make a rather important appearance too, and there are numerous other historical references interwoven throughout. Essentially, Johnson's allegiances are tested numerous times between Cope and Marsh, and he must decide how important it is to defend the dinosaur skeletons he's help to quarry from the rock. It's an adventure tale period. You'll read through it not really wondering if there's a twist, but always thinking "How's Johnson gonna get out of this mess?"

I'm not sure how happy Crichton was with Dragon Teeth in its current form, as he hadn't intended to publish it (I imagine). His widow found it and sold it to his publisher. Perhaps Michael wanted to do more work to perfect it to his liking. We'll never know because we lost him almost 10 years ago at an all too early age -- 66 is not old, people.

God bless the man's soul. Who knows if he left behind any other gems that need polishing before seeing the publishing light of day. If they can turn out like Dragon Teeth, I would welcome it.
