We were disappointed to receive the textbook which came with a soft green/gray cover, later we got to know that it is called "International Edition". Same contents but the paper quality is not as good as the standard textbook printed in America.

I am always disappointed when I purchase student solution manuals. I hope for a tutor in a book. Not just looking for answers. I want to know how and why things are to get the answer. I'm not one for copying.

In the description of this book, they said there was a study CD included and this turn out not to be true. I was totally disappointed. I actually was looking forward to using that CD. Just give the actual description of the book and that will be just fine instead of saying things which ain't true.

Wrong answers and some entries do not correspond with the question in the text. This book has undermined all my confidence and the confidence of my classmates. Publisher needs a QA department and needs to fire the people who wrote the solutions.

Hope you have a good teacher. This text book blows. Uses overly complex formulas to explain simple concepts. excersise problems for the sections frequently do not have examples to reference to in the reading. Don't bother with the study guide either.

The digital rental/eTextbook not include Webassign access. It must be purchased separately. It does not say this anywhere in the product description, despite being a required element in order to use the effing thing. So, yeah. One star for the inconvenience and shoddy business practice of the publisher in making all this as clear as mud.

(This review doesn't necessarily reflect the quality of the book itself or any of the associated materials).

I selected this book primarily because I needed a book to go over the topic area with my son and it was one of the textbooks available on cramster.com (which is web site that has the problem solutions for popular college textbooks). It is very readable and has many exercises (probably more than the average person would ever need). The really nice feature that I wish I had when I was learning this material (way back when) was the use of many graphs, diagrams and the graphing calculator to illustrate the concepts and ideas. In addition, the end of every section has very thoughtful exercises that go beyond the tedious and repetitive problem solving route. Lastly, the chapter test helps to prepare for any real class exams.
As a parent of a college age student I wondered about the outrageous prices being demanded by college textbooks today - are they worth it? Well, this one is....and I purchased two books, one of me and my son and I am not disappointed. I have not even explored the online features available to assist students yet. In summary , all these features provided and the adherence by the authors to a positive pedagogical approach that benefits students add value to the book and make it worth while for anyone taking the course on their own or in a classroom.

This solutions manual has only the odd answers. If I knew that, I would not have made this purchase, however, perhaps being a more advanced course, I will need step by step solutions to the odds. Last semester's answer solutions had the even solutions as well. I also don't like the formatting of the solutions, it's very bunched up. As I go through the book, I will return and update my review.

Overall, this text book is well-written, making pre-calculus accessible for students at a college level. The the store price is almost half as much as the cost of the book in the college bookstore, making this an excellent bargain. And the super-fast delivery is an added bonus!

I ordered this, switched classes, and then had to return it. I wish I could have used it in the pre-calc class I did take, as this seemed to do a much better job of explaining things. I ended up with a Pearson book that vomited example problems without step by step guides and regretted my switch!

My 10th grade son is taking honors Pre-Calculus this year. This book provides a solid base for future calculus classes. His engineer dad was impressed the variety of problems, and states that he even learned some things from reading the book. It is thorough and challenging.

I have been a math instructor for eight years and have seen many precalculus textbooks. This book is by far the best. It clearly explains all concepts and often provides very useful proofs. Of course it is precalculus so naturally there will be plenty of negative reviews simply because some people are not capable of understanding the subject. For the serious student, though, this book cannot be beat.

My professor doesn't use any of the computer aided programs that every other teacher did use. The only down fall to this manual is that it only shows the odd numbered problems. Hence four star's, thankful that's all we are every assigned in my class. If you just want the answers to the problem go to the back of the book, however if you want to know how to solve something step by step then you need this companion book with it.

Overall it is a pretty good text, It covers everything that you need to know in order to have a solid base in calculus. Not just first semester but through all three (or however your school breaks up general calculus). For instance I thought that I would never see partial fraction decomposition again, but low and behold in calc 2 it reared its ugly head, except with integration thrown in for good measure.
