Got this book for my friends' baby shower. Met her while in college and we're all engineers, including her hubby! I think they'll both get a kick out of it and I'm sure baby will find it educational too. :)

This book has great pictures and starts out strong and cute by giving the letters of calculus different personalities, but it definitely gets random and confusing by the end. It tries to go through the alphabet naming things that "x" can do with "f," and you can tell it was difficult for the author to come up with something for every letter. Other reviews say that it is a kid's book (instead of a "calculus for dummies" style book), which is true. However, It uses way too many big math words if it is actually trying to be a kid's book. I got it as a gift for my mom (an AP calculus teacher) to read to grandkids, and she loved the idea, but I'm not sure it will be one that we keep going back to.

This is an excellent gift for a math-minded father (or mother) to be! Clever ABC book. It was received with delight by both parents, who both love math yet know it's not everyone's first choice. A nice change of pace from baby animal abc books!

My three month old daughter is not as interested in this book as I would like. I wish the book came in a hard back version. I'm glad it's in our collection. I love taking book selfies with my daughter and this one is my favorite. That alone made it entirely worth the price and the five star rating. I just hope the book holds up to our life style. I have to wedge it between two hard back books on our shelf so it doesn't get bent.

Pretty much an ABC book, but with variables instead – the description implies a little more conceptual stuff than it delivers (very little in the book is really specific to calculus). But it's still cute.

Purchased this for a friend with a 16mo old. They loved it. Baby might not learn real calculus (Obviously) but it's cute all the same. It basically just shows calculus graphs and names them in a funny little story about f and x being good friends.

For me, taking limits more or less defines calculus, and this doesn't really get there. Indeed, it would have been impossible for a youngster if it had. What it does is introduce functional notation, the use of the "=" sign as used in analysis and the concept of graphing a function. Still a lot for a youngster, and perhaps it tries to achieve too much. As a math picture book that starts to familiarize the child with math concepts, this is perfect. Given the target audience, how could you expect more?

The story is fantastic. The story is about lonely little X and how no one likes him. He meets fun and fabulous F and together they discover all sorts of cool functions f(x) can be. The moral of the story is to be yourself and be nice to others.

Some of the drawings are really weird. The cover, for example, is two paintbrushes painting a gaussian. I thought it was two snakes looking at each other. There are some other drawings that I found difficult to decipher. Otherwise a very adorable and cute book!
