This is a story of persistence. Grounded because of an encounter with a bat that injured her wings, our young heroine learns to survive in an adverse environment. Using her wits and the ability to cast spells (an inborn instinct that must be mastered as it is learned) she becomes friends with several creatures that could do her harm. The conclusion demonstrates that hatred has little value but friendship is truly valuable.

Cute little book. Very simple with a good story to it. For young children but anyone can read it. It's about a night fairy who gets attacked by a bat and loses her wings. She must learn to fend for herself without being able to fly. She also learns that the things that frighten her might not be so scary after all.

As a reviewer above said, Amy Laura Schlitz has a way with words. She seems capable of handling any subject. I'm a 57 year old man and no wuss, but I can't wait to read this to my grandchildren if I ever have any. This book is beautifully done. It has the feel of a classic like Wind in the Willows or Beatrix Potter. The illustrations are wonderful and the placement in the story of the 2 page spread at the end literally gave me an adrenalin rush. I recomend this to anyone reading to a child, or to any child old enough for the themes of the book. Definitely should be on everyone's shelves to be read again and again.

I have been trying many chapter books for my eight year old daughter, who reads well above second grade level. She didn't care for the magic treehouse series or the rainbow fairy series. I found this book at their school's book fair and paid more for it than the the store price, but it was well worth it. She read it in under a week, telling me daily of Flory's adventures. The illustrations are beautiful as well. What a treasure to find!

Short chapters and beautiful illustrations make this an ideal read for the younger set. I gave this one, along with Celia and the Fairies, to a friend's daughter who loves fairy books, and both were a hit.

Feeling the need for a light quick read I downloaded as a kindle version. I enjoyed it so much that I ordered the paperback version and am reading to my 5 year old niece a chapter per visit. She is also delighted with "Flory's Story!"
