I liked the ability to skirt right up against current affairs but maintain fiction. The political dialogue made it seem so much more real, for me. I had trouble in the beginning, keeping all the names and functions of the characters straight.

Engaging! Once I started reading, I kept reading! Already looking forward to the next one! Lots of twists and turns all the way through. Learned a lot, too! Can't wait for J.L. Brown's next book!

I started this book very excited about the story, but it wasn't long before I tired of the negative one sided politics that dominated.
When I receive a free book, as this one was, I feel obligated to read it, but finishing this one was a challenge.
I liked the complex character, Jade. But, I can't recommend a book that is so negative.

Kissed (The Thorn Chronicles) :: Fallen Angel (A Raines & Shaw Thriller Book 1) :: Sick Girl :: A gripping psychological thriller with an absolutely brilliant twist :: The Winner's Kiss (The Winner's Trilogy)

I'm wondering if the other reviewers read the same book I did. "A little political"? This book should have a prologue stating "The Chairman of the Democratic National Committee approves of the content" and be listed as Political Satire. The entire book is a political statement with a (thin) storyline as an excuse to write it out...Ms. Brown must have had the DNC talking points on a checklist and guided the story so she could work them all in. That and the politically correct tone started as as a nuisance, moved to a distraction, then became amusing and finally hilarious as you wondered how long this could go...the answer is to the end. Ms. Brown even dredged up the oldies (FL's voting procedures, stolen election and courts deciding elections all got mentioned) while hammering home Fairness Doctrine and Income Inequality. Then there was "WWHD" - what would Hillary do - as our heroic Senator/Presidential Candidate deals with her husband's infidelity. Have to admit, I almost stopped there.
I should have been tipped off where this was going when the summary talked about "conservative talk show hosts" as opposed to "talk show hosts". I'll be smarter next time, and no more J.L. Brown or Jade Harrington for me.

When people become writers I expect them to be liberals. But there's a way to write without being a cartoon. This book is a very short FBI procedural stuffed into every cliched talking point from the far left.
A #1 rated talk show host, conservative (Gee, who could that be?) is the bumbling buffoon who says things the real host would never say proving the author didn't bother listening. Meanwhile, a liberal woman running for president is spouting the same talking points I've heard for 50 years. "Wouldn't it be great if we had job training and free healthcare?" "Evil capitalism, yada, yada." Yeah, and it would be great if Unicorns flew out of my .........never mind.
Along the way, the author kills off a successful female author, very conservative who is a outspoken critic of liberalism. (DUH)
In between the cartoon characters we get lectured on the "fairness doctrine" which died a quiet death years ago. Rightfully so.
I can tolerate opinions wrapped in fiction, but this was so sophomoric I hope it was written by a high school student.

Wonderful, thoughtful, beautifully-paced thriller. Think Baldacci-meets-Indridason. Read it as the page-turner that it is, but there is plenty to think about. Jade Harrington is a terrific protagonist--cannot wait for the next one!

I loved this book!! It was entertaining while also intellectually challenging, well-researched, full of mystery and suspense, and was written to keep you from wanting to put it down. Great for a debut book. Can't wait until the sequel!!

I do not like books with strong leaning politics. This is pure liberal leaning, not a hint of any balance. Writing is ok, just be prepared for a one sided view of the world. I will delete the book and not bother with any future books by this author.

When I read the brief description of this selection, the plot sounded very compelling. However, as the book unfolded, this once promising novel became just another “soapbox” for failed socialistic ideas. The FBI agent in charge investigating the assassinations of constitutional speaking radio talk show hosts is the liberal stereotype black, female, and former basketball star. Not unlike our present biased FBI, this agent has a close female friend who is blogs and is in chat rooms with Marxists . The sub-plot is that of a Presidential campaign where a female, Democratic Senator is running against a sitting Republican who is controlled by constitutional speaking radio talk shows. At one point the female candidate ponders WWHD ( What would Hillary Do?) I was sure that the novel would then include the killing of US Ambassador in Benghazi, the killing of her husband’s advisor, inside trading on the Agriculture Futures Market, the establishment of a foundation to aide people where only her family got rich, or at the very least the planting of a dossier implicating her opponent was dealing with the enemy of the United States. But alas, it only had her husband having an affair with a neighbor which was naturally the neighbor’s fault. If you enjoy reading Marxist rhetoric, the idea silencing of ideas by assassination, and law enforcement with political agendas, you will like this book. I was very disappointed in what could have been a very good book if the author was not trying to further her political philosophy.

I really like books about serial killers and murder mysteries. That part of the story, about 25% of the content, was enjoyable. The rest was filled with the typical liberal fantasies about how perfect the world would be without any opposition to your agenda. It has been done before, numerous times. Each and every time it failed miserably and cost millions of lves in the last century. Global warming s a complete hoax. Conservative talk radio s a minute part of the media with the majority of it completely controlled by liberal corporations. ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, MSNBC, the NY Times, LATimes, and on and on ad infinitum, are all liberal voices. There is liberal talk radio. It is called PBS. It is so unpopular that is has to be supported with tax dollars because no company would buy advertisements because there would be no listeners. OK, enough of that. Please write a similar mystery without all the BS.

Very little about the mystery concerning the murders of Conservatives, lots about why Liberals are right, and Conservatives are bad and wrong. Can't finish it. I love a good mystery, just don't care for the propaganda.

Dems worship with no political balance. You might as well read the NY Times or Washington Post, or watch CNN, MSNBC.
The blatant bashing of Republicans is a turn-off. I did not finish the book and deleted it.

I came across this title and having grown up around Washington D.C. I like political fiction / thrillers. Throw in a savy female FBI agent and what appeared to be a lot of positive reviews.
Unfortunately, the reviews failed to mention that this book is basically the author using a story to rant about how great Hillary Clinton and the dems are. I was a registered Dem and helped on some campaigns ... then I had up close dealings with HRC. If an author wants to write a pro HRC and Dems book to so but don't claim it's a fiction thriller or at the very least put in the description that there is a lot of mention of HRC.
I wanted to like this story, but the further you get into the book the authors political views over power the story. It is truly a shame but I stopped reading and deleted returned it ... Kindle Unlimited. Thankfully, I didn't waste money on this HRC and Dems worship. I'm independent and don't have a lot of use for either party, but this book is nothing but a soap box to tout HRC and Dems as the best thing to happen to America. She did hit all the talking points ... no border wall, no immigration reform, no healthcare reform and so on.
After two years of the bitter campaign from both sides I didn't expect a FICTION thriller to be a rehashing to the Dem talking points.

The storyline had promise until it drifted off into a diatribe of hate for all conservative policies as well as men in general The hot shot women are all so stereotypical. We have the Woman FBI agent who is half black and half Japanese, her best friend who is a black lesbian, and a white woman senator who is married to a millionaire business owner. Don't waste your time or your money.

This is sick delusional book and it shows you how intolerant the lunatic left really is.They can't face that they lost the election and have come with their own make believe realality.Sick disgusting story I would definitely Not recommend. The FBI agent is supposed to this super top notch agent but I saw very little evidence of this. She actually came off as weird and creepy.

I really enjoyed this book. The characters are solidly written characters. I loved the solid thriller it is. I thought I had guessed the who did and the who didn't but I was wrong. The ending was a huge surprise for me! My only problem with this book to me is there was to much running political content going on. We just had an election way to similar to the book. Sorry.

J.L. Brown clearly has witnessed Washington, D.C. political life. In her first Jade Harrington novel, Don’t Speak, Brown’s manages not only to describe the issues and dynamics of the national political scene credibly, she also populates it with a believable cast of characters who quickly engage you with their authenticity and humanness. The main character, FBI Special Agent Jade Harrington, engages you quickly with her drive, intensity, and flaws. The opening scene pulls you straight into a compelling and multifaceted story. As a reader of many thrillers, I appreciated how Brown modulated the building of the plot, mixing fast and slow rhythms without losing the energy. The ending caught me by surprise, which is always a pleasure. I highly recommend this great read.

I haven't read anything by this author before now but I was really impressed with her style her characters were strong and the plot line interesting with a solid mystery, though I did guess the very end. I am looking forward to her next novel. I received an e-book in return for an unbiased review.

If you're Independent or Democrat, you'll like it. Whitney Fairchild is about to be elected, but serial killer during the campaign is after right wing talk show hosts. They're killed by serial killer all over America. This book was written in 2015, brought back those ugly days. Unbelievable ending will surprise you.

This was a very different type of thriller. Politics was mixed in as part of the story. Along with that the book was also making a political statement. Politics aside it was a good read. It brings up issues and has you thinking while reading an interesting thriller.

I am not a mystery reader but this book captivated me. I finished it in a few days. It was not only impressive the complexity of the plots but it was obvious that JL Brown took the time to do the research. As a 20 year resident of Washington DC the book was completely up to date with current events and the political climate. I'd recommend this book and look forward to reading more.

I finished the book despite our opposing views and the hero worship of the Clintons. I do not usually finish books like this one, but I liked the characters. Especially, the determined focus of the main character.

A typical liberal mantra disguised in a mystery detective story. All conservatives were hateful and ignorant, while all liberals were intelligent, beautiful and compassionate. Long passages reciting the authors liberal beliefs had to be endured. Unfortunate, as the author has a gift for creating suspense and good story-telling. Very disappointing.
