Powerful lessons from a guy who has looked war in the face and lived to tell about the lessons learned - many good life lessons, learned on the field of battle. Occasionally very intense reading, I was a little upset about how much was redacted by the censors.

I, too wished the book was longer. Although I should be reading my textbooks for my master's degree, I put aside a few hours this week to read it. The narrative is not linear but like most reviewers said, the book flows well. The chapters have themes which I also felt it was a great way to organize the book.
I was very much moved by his discussion of PTSD at the end of the book. It was heartbreaking to know that despite how close the relationships are in the SEAL teams, it's apparently not alright to discuss with your brothers your feelings regarding the emotional trauma of war. He only alludes to the effect his service and continuous deployments had on his relationships. As he wrote in No Easy Day EVERYTHING takes a back seat to being a SEAL.

As a fireman, I struggle sometimes with the hints I have seen. Reading this book helped me in coping. It let me see that their are others like me that deal with such stressors. I always look up to my other brothers(military) because they have so much to offer us in the fire service.

Mark Owen gives an outstanding detailed account of what it takes to become and maintain oneself to be a Navy SEAL. He is a true American hero. We all should heed his advice when facing obstacles in our day to day lives. I know I will.
