I have always enjoyed Megan's recipes and when the chance came to be an official recipe tester, I couldn't wait to start cooking. After 8 weeks of about 9 recipes per week I found myself making most of the delicious meals many more times!! The recipes are easy to understand, most are quick to prepare, and all of them are yummy blends of tastes and textures. Totally looking forward to getting my book which I pre-ordered and it should be here any day. Thank you Megan! Job well done:-)

Such a great follow up to her first book, Everyday Detox. Her first book is a staple in our kitchen. Just this week I made the Garlic Cauliflower Mashers and the "Beef" and Broccoli. What I love most about her recipes, is that they are true crowd pleasers. My husband is a pretty harsh critic, and he's constantly impressed with the recipes I make from these books. I can't wait to get started on meal prep next week, to cook out of her new book, No Excuses Detox.

Amazing recipes aside, I also love how she uses the first pages of the books to bestow some stellar knowledge upon the reader in regard to digestion, and overall health. Also, even though it's probably something no one really notices, I LOVE the fact that she includes the extra 4-5" extension of the front and back cover to use as a book mark! It drives me bonkers to have to "dog ear" a page, or search high and low for post it's to mark a page. So, this feature, albeit small and inconsequential to the overall integrity of the book, is a HUGE win in my eyes :)

If you're thinking of buying this book, grab her first one as well, Everyday Detox. Excellent recipes, with no redundancy between the two books!

I love all of Megan's recipes! Her first cookbook (Everyday Detox) is a staple in our kitchen and I've gifted it to almost everyone I know. I love this new book because it has lots of recipes that can be made ahead of time and are kid-friendly. Even though most of her recipes are vegetarian, they don't scream "vegetarian!!" and appeal to meat eaters too. Most of the recipes use basic ingredients that aren't hard to find and it amazes me how she is able to take such simple ingredients and turn them into complete dishes. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to eat healthier but not feel like you are depriving yourself!!

Previously purchased Everyday Detox and incorporated many of the recipes into my meal planning, but have to say this recently released follow up cookbook is not so impressive. Only a few sound that appetizing and wish there were more photos.

The cover and promise of quick, affordable and delicious food recipes that will make it easy to follow a healthy lifestyle every day had me sold straight away. This cookbook focuses on showing everyone that it is doable to start changing your eating habits and that there are literally ‘no excuses’ to be posponing the change. No Excuses Detox talks about the most common excuses and shows a wide variety of recipes that will please even the most complicated eater. I do admit I wasn’t convinced by everything that was talked about in the introduction and I think some of the points were a bit too complicated to be called simply ‘no excuses’. That said, the recipes are without doubt excellent and I liked that the author showed just how cheap a healthy meal can be. I have quite a few marked and I will be looking forward to try out more.

A plan to detox using vegetables, non gluten food and no dairies; it is not too difficult and tasty, so to make it easy to follow it till the end. Interesting, with clear recipes and beautiful pictures, it could be worth a try.

I don't normally follow recipes because they never turn out well for me. I'm more of an experimental cook. However, this cookbook is different. The majority of the recipes are so quick, simple and turned out delicious! I can't wait to try more out! Everything is so healthy but it's tasty as well, not bland like a lot of healthy recipes. I've got both of Megan Gilmore's cookbooks and I have to say they're my favourite cookbooks for using as an everyday working Mum :)

No Excuses Detox by Megan Gilmore provides 100 recipes that are affordable and perfect for people following a healthy lifestyle. The information presented is easy to follow and none of the information listed is complicated. She goes into detail about nutrition information and how affordable the items suggested are. There’s something for everyone in this book. From gluten free to slow cooker recipes…she lists them all. The pictures added to the usefulness of the book and I will be keeping this book close to me and using it as a reference.

This beautiful book landed on my doorstep and I had to read it right away - despite the fact that it is not a Plant-Based cookbook (which I am). But it is gluten-free with lots of vegan options – and many that are easily convertible. The goal here is “clean eating.” The author blogs at detoxinista.com which will give you some further ideas about her food and if it will work for you.

The design is attractive and enticing with front and back cover “fold-overs” so you have two easy bookmarks. The easy-to-use recipe layout has multiple circled annotations so you can choose vegan, dairy-free, gluten-free, egg-free, nut-free, soy-free, sugar-free and those with meat protein options are clearly noted as well. She also indicates: 30-min recipes, 15-min prep, kid-friendly, freezer friendly and slow/pressure cooker options (with specific instructions for the Instant Pot). The photos, not one for every recipe but a lot, are beautiful but sometimes don’t match the written descriptions exactly. And there are written descriptions – an interesting lead-in and often very useful notes at the bottom.

Ms. Gilmore is also a fan of food combining – that was big in the ‘70s and I can’t really tell if this is rejuvenation of that same perspective. But she suggests eating only certain foods together – and makes that easy if you follow her recipes and three week-long sets of menus that make sure that the recipes in those menus also follow that food-combining perspective. That concept requires more study on my part…..

I picked a couple recipes to try out. But first – some of the basics that I noted: Ms. Gilmore uses oil (sometimes a lot and sometimes a little) and she uses salt – sometimes with abandon. In many cases, those are easily modified – although she cautions about changing the ratios in baking when using coconut oil or trying to sub EVOO for coconut oil lest you create a major disaster. She also warns that mixing coconut oil and baking powder together creates a perfectly safe green (albeit surprising) product – with St. Patrick’s Day coming up I might just try that.

Skillet Breakfast Hash was my first try. Green cabbage, onions, and green peppers form the base. The recipe suggests topping it with eggs, sprinkling with goat cheddar (all ingredient cheeses in the book are from goat or sheep milk) and finishing in the oven. Since I actually had a couple of free-range, local organic eggs left by a guest, I put two on the hash. And instead of the two ounces of goat cheddar, I finally shredded 1 ounce of Daiya Mozzarella and sprinkled it on the top. The result was tasty although the Daiya was so finally shredded that its presence was unnoticeable. The eggs didn’t add that much so I think I might try this again with some tofu – or nothing.

The next recipes I’ll try are Baked Parsnip Chips, Butternut Mac ‘n Cheese (still looking for the one that really works), Deep Dish Chocolate Cookie and No Bake Brownie Bites.

This book contains some fresh ideas. New recipe concepts seem to be generated in the ether and then appear simultaneously in many books, blogs or sites. So when you read some new thoughts, that’s a good thing.

This book is beautiful. The recipes are delicious and manageable. Megan provides price per serving information, meal plans, shopping lists, and helpful tips to make this book so much more than a cookbook.
