Like many, Lincoln is my favorite President. Through his humble beginnings, he was able to connect to the common man in a way that few politicians ever could. His down home wit and wisdom is a national treasure.

The quotations are excellent. I am even trying to use them at every opportunity. Young people need to get a hold of this book and understand the wisdom it has between the pages. I will encourage every young person to get a copy and read it.

Only knowing what little they teach you in grade school about this man, i bought this book to learn a little more. This is a good book to do this. I found after reading this that i really like this great man. I would recommend this to anyone wanting to get a quick glimpse of Mr. Lincoln.
I hope this review is helpful to some.

Have read much about Lincoln and always felt he was like a Will Rogers of conventional wisdom. So, I was looking for his words. Found what I was looking for. Well organized, references given for context. Very pleased.

The book is arranged by topic, like: fools, generals, little woman, etc. which I find strange because some topics have only one short quote while other topics may have a multi-page passage. Regardless of what I think of the layout, the information is interesting. I was looking for a book of quotes attributed to Pres. Lincoln so I could use those quotes as motivational passages. This book was not quite what I was looking for.

What a fascinating man President Lincoln was. His wit and wisdom far exceed anything i have read about another single person. This is one of many wonderful books on Lincoln that the store.com has. My Lincoln library is growing by leaps and bounds.

As a US History teacher, this small and inexpensive book brings personality and life to one of our most beloved Presidents. An excellent value and one that is more likely to be read and enjoyed than larger, more in depth works. Middle School kids get a kick out of the quotes.

While this short book of quotes and speeches was interesting, I believe you have to be a big fan of Lincoln to get much out of it. Young readers would be running to dictionaries to figure out what a lot of the passages mean, while Lincoln was a "wordy" speaker, some of the short and "down home" passages can make the reader imagine Lincoln speaking with a twinkle in his eye as he told a story.

Although I feel President Lincoln was great, the book is average. This is strictly short quotes with no insight into the man behind the statements or the actaully meaning of his words. This would only be useful for quick quotes for research and nothing beyond that element.

Great book. However, I wish the ENTIRE "farewell speech" (leaving Springfield going to DC as president elect)was included. In the book, it is only a partial speech. The same can be said herein for the Gettysburg Address. How can this great, outstanding speech be limited to three brief lines? Both should always be written in its entirety. Always. No half measures even if this is a "thrift edition." It does Lincoln no great service and neither the readers!
