Jon Klassen is one of our favorite illustrators. His hat books, as we call them, are always top choices for my kids at storytime. We Found a Hat is right on par with his other books in that it is simple and easy to understand, but with incredible illustrations to round out the overall tone of each book. If you like the other hat books, you will enjoy this one as well.

A must-have for children's library collection. My daughter and I really love reading this book together. The language of the book is simple and the art, while minimalist, still evokes charm. Two turtles find a hat but decide that since there is only one fair, neither of them should have it. One turtle is tempted by the hat but eventually love and friendship prevail. It's a rather simple story. The (inner) conflict takes place in between the lines which I greatly appreciate as some stories over-emphasize in-fighting and squabbling a little too much for my tastes.

I would think that this book would be a great read for early readers since the print is large and the sentences and word choice are very basic. Highly recommend for a read or a buy!

A simply brilliant story which notes the importance of letting go of more material things for the sake of a friendship that is worth much more. An important message for children of this age group who first form friendships and begin to sort out what it takes to be a good friend. The clever nuances depicted in the characters eyes (with a hint of sarcasm) tell a whole story on their own. I can picture parents pointing out these nuances to their kids to explain the story through these characters thoughts and actions. The plot shows how there are different ways of solving a problem, and how it’s the decisions you make that help you do so. The two loveable gender neutral characters make the story appeal to both girls and boys, and their relationship appeal to both children and parents. I absolutely adore this book.

This book tells a very powerful moralistic story with very little text and simple drawings. I tell my boys it has "invisible words" in it. We try to guess what they are, especially on pages with no text. I have never seen a book this profound. No words are wasted. Would be great reading for some adults, although they may not see the invisible words <coughs loudly>.
