Was disappointed in this because it was a microbook. My daughter had this book when she was a child and loved it. This was supposed to be a Christmas present and I don't know if it is even worth my time shipping it back and attempting to find a standard size book. Guess this will teach me to read reviews first.

This is a miniature size book! So disappointing. I can't give this to a child- it's too small & part of what makes this book so great are its illustrations to bring the story alive & they're too small to enjoy :(

Very disappointed when I opened the book and the book I ordered isn't the normal size book but a book that measures roughly 2.5x2.5. I really wish they would've put a description some place saying that, I would've kept looking until I found a book that my son can see with vision problems. Very Disappointed!!!

One of the best books for preschoolers up to third grade. The book is so entertaining that two year olds sit through the story too! Munsch has a way to know what children WANT to hear--it's like he's reading their minds and writing a story about what's in there! The story is about a girl that loves markers--regular kinds, the type that "smell" and permanent markers--sounds boring but it's NOT:) A favorite of all kids for a long time!

I bought this book for the classroom. I read that it was paperback, which was okay, but I didn't realize that it was going to be a tiny 3-inch square mini-book. I had to use it under the doc camera with it zoomed way out to use it.

When I was a First Grade teacher, my students absolutely LOVED this story. It's great for any child who loves color, drawing and creating. It also is a great springboard for discussing or writing about "What happens next?"

I love this story but when ordered did not realize this book was a microversion. Very disappointed with that. There was nothing in the ad that stated it was a mini version of the book. When I was gettng ready to throw out the box is when I found the book. It should be boldy stated that this a mini version of the book!!!!

Apparently, this has been an issue since at least 2009, but the store hasn't updated the description to identify the fact that this is a TINY VERSION of the book.
The story is hilarious, but I was expecting the regular-sized paperpack. The look on my face when I pulled it out of the package was probably hilarious, too. I was like one of those duped parents in Munsch's tales. Classic surprise.
Buyer beware, the dimensions are listed in the product details. Now I know to look in the future.
Enjoy the story, you're going to love it so much, one day when this is funnier, I'll be glad to have a pocket-sized version ;)

Buyers Beware! I ordered many Robert Munsch books and they were all approximately 3"x3". The listing only said paperback and it did not list any dimensions or mention its mini size. It is not worth the price.

This story was a childhood favorite and I was thrilled to find it at such a "reasonable" price. I, like other customers, am disappointed with its tiny size. Shame on me for not reading the reviews first...even though now that I look, the listed dimensions say "9.9 x 4.9 x 0.4 inches." I definitely cannot use this for a read-aloud in my classroom as I had intended.

I really loved the illustrations in this book; they were so colourful and inviting, it definitely drew me in as I was reading! However, I found the storyline of the book itself to be a bit confusing as the little girl kept commenting on how the markers were not making her happy, and how she had wanted stronger ones. Her mother kept telling her no, then, she finally gave in and gave her the markers that she had wanted. It was a bit difficult to follow the storyline directly however, I did enjoy the colourful pictures, it made reading it exciting!

Yes! This is a whimsical story of an enthusiastic 6 year old who has a love for coloring, and no limits to her imagination and desire for wanting to upgrade her markers, from washable markers, to markers that smell like anything you can imagine, to, of course, "the super-indelible-never-come-off-till-you're-dead-and-maybe-even-later coloring markers", all in boxes of 500 each.
It is remarkable to witness her enthusiasm for her coloring projects and how she convinces her Mother to upgrade her to the next kind of markers. In all of this enthusiasm, Mom gives her support to Brigid because, as she says, "My kid is an artist".
Where does Brigid go after this? You will have to read the rest of the story to learn how she paints her way through the next scenario,
how she works through a coloring marker crisis, and how she gets her Dad involved in this colorful ending that will have you checking the next set of coloring markers that you buy for your 6 year old and her sister, or brother. Be there, when Dad becomes "the work of art".
Why this book has not been reviewed before now, I am puzzled. It's an excellent lead into teaching your child to be responsible with her playthings. Published in 1992, I have used this story "enthusiastically" with primary children in a school setting so many times, that it is scripted in my brain. Hope it brings a colorful message to you and your child. Happy Reading!

I bought this book elsewhere so not sure about the size per se, but I do want to comment that this is a terrific book excellently written, smooth to read, funny with well chosen words. Absolutely one of the best I've read to my child over these years.

This story begins with young Brigid's desire to have markers like all of her friends. Her anxious mother frets that Brigid will color on walls, floors, and herself. Brigid's plea is victorious when she makes her point for water color markers.
"They wash off with just water...Get me some of those." She gets a box of 500 water color markers. Brigid soon grows bored and makes her case for getting markers that smell, and then finally a box of "super-indelible-never-come-off-till-you're-dead-and-maybe-even-later colouring markers." Then, bored with paper, she starts coloring her fingernails....Brigid is a colorful character who slips into coloring on herself, as many young children do. Adults may fret that this book may encourage children to draw on themselves, but this story is funny because of the unreal solution to the very real problem of children coloring on themselves. The children that I have read this to seem to get that this is the real point to this book. This book is for every child who has ever preferred markers to crayons or colored pencils, and then wandered away from their original purpose.

[...]The story is cute and the illastrations are nice and colorful. One day, Bridgid, a little girl, asks her mom for 500 washable markers. Then 500 good-smelling markers. (Actullay, one of the good smelling markers smells like cow plops.) Then she gets some, uhh, the name is pretty long and sometimes I can't remember it. Something like, "incredible-won't-come-off-and-maybe-even-later markers". Kids will laugh along with the funny story of Bridgid getting carried away with coloring. Now something I don't like: It says her pictures are better then the real thing. I mean, sunsets that look better than sunsets?!? Why, how could it be?!? And definetly not with markers. Paints and colored pencils are the things for the job. The following complaint isn't as big as the cool compliment: Her mom dosen't scold Bridgid for coloring the dad! In fact, she says he looks great! Such a bad mom! It's her own husband and she dosen't scold her child? Blech! Here's what I think overall: Why not buy it? If my complaints bother you a lot, don't, but it is pretty good. Borrow it from the library if you'd like. Signed, StoryMaker. "Gotta trust the kid's review!"

I came across a picture a friend posted on Facebook a bit ago of a little girl coloring the backs of her Daddy's legs with marker as he slept and it reminded me of this marvelous, fantastic, stupendously funny book that was my eldest granddaughter's favorite long after she learned to read herself. Purple, Green and Yellow will keep the child in your life in stitches. Just do be sure to get the hard-cover version that is 8 inches by 8 inches rather than the 2 x 2 that is too small to read!
