Readers who enjoy romantic suspense with extreme emphasis on steamy sex will like this book.
I liked the strong female main character, Eve Wolfe, but I didn't completely 'buy' into her being some super CIA agent. The main male character, Zane Archer, was a little more believable. I did find it annoying that throughout the book the two main characters continued to address and refer to each other by multiple names/aliases-like all those 'Zane-Archer-Sawyer' coupled with the 'Eve-Evie-Wolfe-Juliet' references. Stop trying to convince/remind me that they were both big, bad, undercover operatives with past CIA missions!
I thought the author did a good job with the suspense part of the story and I did enjoy the action sequences with Eve and Zane dogging and fleeing those who were out to discredit her and kill them both, while sabotaging the Aegis agency, Zane's former employer. However, the sex kept getting in the way of a good story! I like the romance element, which is why I love to read good romantic suspense, but between the flashbacks to their former sexual relationship, and all their mental detours into sexual thoughts while running for their lives it was too much. I counted nine pages at one point that contained nothing but graphic descriptions of them making love, and I was getting a little bored by that point with it all! One thing I really disliked was when Eve chose a major 'too-stupid-to-live' course of action near the end of the book, solely designed to put her all alone in the cross-hairs of her enemies. Of course, seconds before her capture, she realizes she has made a huge mistake in judgement! Yeah, that's the solid thinking and smart behavior anyone would expect from an experienced CIA agent!
I borrowed this book on the store Prime, but even if I had purchased it I would not be re-reading it.

Angst I like…romantic suspense I like…tortured romance I even like. This, however, read like a bad infomercial that just won't shut up and get to the dang point.
@40%, the h\H are still having multi-paragraph diatribes and monologues about how they cant decide if they want to kill or screw each other, love or hate each other, trust or want to abandon each other, etc. It was mentally exhausting to drag out so long, & the same repetitive flashbacks to their former sexual escapades turned into pure fluff that served zero purpose after about te 20th time; I get that they had lots of hot forbidden sex previously without having to be reminded every other paragraph!
She is a narcissistic badass that comes off cold. He's a pissy, whinny, supposed badass that comes off like an ignorant teenger dumped by the hot mean girl in HS. Otherwise, the two have very little personality nor sex appeal.
Couldn't finish:( Im amazed at the number of shining reviews. It makes me wonder if they read different book ?!?

Romantic suspense is my "go-to" genre that I tend to seek out when I want to escape. I love the pulse-pounding, adrenaline-spiking stories that cause my Kindle to sometimes overheat as the pages fly by. That's why I was so happy to see that one of my favorite multi-genre authors, Elisabeth Naughton (Stolen, Eternal Guardians, Against All Odds series), was releasing the first novel in a new romantic suspense series, Aegis Security. There have been been several teaser novellas published previously that introduced us to members of the Aegis Security team (see: Acapulco Heat in Bodyguards In Bed, First Exposure, and Sinful Surrender), so to say that I've been anticipating the publication of the first full length story, Extreme Measures, is an understatement.
Naughton is a master hand at mixing hot sex scenes with stories of suspense and Extreme Measures is a good representation of this. From the beginning pages when we're introduced to Zane Archer, an Aegis operative, and Eve Wolfe, his former CIA lover, you know that these two will be steaming up the pages. But first they have to overcome some mutual distrust, the kidnapping of Eve's sister, traitors within the CIA, and the anger of Aegis Security founder Jake Ryder at Zane's desertion.
I have to say I enjoyed the story, but to be honest it wasn't my absolutely favorite book by Naughton. Of the four Aegis Security stories to date, the strongest heroine title certainly belongs to Eve. In fact, it's the need to release the inner woman that seems to be key to this relationship progressing from Eve, the consummate CIA operative, to Eve, operative and woman. In contrast, alpha hero Zane is more in tune with his touch-feely side, though driven for quite a bit of the book by his desire to revenge himself on Eve for her perceived betrayal.
I'm definitely looking forward to future books in the series and am hoping some may focus on Eve's sister, Olivia, Aegis operative Landon Miller, Jake Ryder, and Jake's assistant Marley Addison. It definitely seems like they'll have stories to be told.
Extreme Measures is a great summer read. Really a perfect virtual pulse-pounding getaway to enjoy while spending an afternoon at the pool or the beach. I'd advise you to pick up the previous stories in the series to read first as not only are they fun, but some of their characters are mentioned in this story (and I'm sure future ones as well).
So if you're looking for a great beach read, pick up Extreme Measures, a four star thriller.
(I received an eARC of Extreme Measures for review from the publisher through NetGalley.)

EXTREME MEASURES is the first instalment in Elisabeth Naughton’s new contemporary, adult, Aegis Security action suspense series focusing on a group of former CIA operatives and Special Forces personnel. This is CIA operative Eve Wolfe and Aegis Security operative Zane Archer’s storyline-a story that introduces the players in international espionage and national defense.
The focus of the storyline finds Eve and Zane on opposite sides of an investigation into the manufacturing of chemical weapons and missing persons. From a time when Zane and Eve first met, years before, neither one has been able to forget their lust filled affair that ended with betrayal and heartache. Fast forward and, Eve and Zane find themselves the targets of homeland vigilantes and assassins trying to take them both down in a war between good and evil. But everyone will have a difficult time separating the good from the bad when all fingers point to someone they have all trusted-in the past.
The relationship between Eve and Zane is tempered by thoughts of betrayal and undercover dealings behind closed doors. As the storyline progresses, so too does the sexual attraction between our couple-one that is hot, steamy and addicting.
The reader is introduced to several secondary characters from Aegis Security and the CIA. The world building brings counter-intelligence, espionage and the Department of Defense onto the pages of a storyline that finds two people, with issues of trust, depending on one another for their very lives.
EXTREME MEASURES is a second chance at love storyline with action, suspense, mystery and romance. The reader is pulled into a moving, intense and dramatic story that will captivate as well as fascinate. There is heartbreak and painful revelations for two people who fell in love at a difficult time in both of their lives.
Elisabeth Naughton writes from the heart with an incredible gift of imagination and wondrous story telling. EXTREME MEASURES is the perfect start to a new series that everyone will surely enjoy.

This was an engrossing, page turning read. I loved it! Ms. Naughton writes engaging characters and page turning suspense. As much as I wanted to slow down and really enjoy the story I also wanted to read faster to get to the resolution so all the characters I loved would be (hopefully) safe.
I loved the chemistry between Zane and Eve. Enemies to lovers is not usually one of my favorite tropes but this one is handled so well. They both have so much baggage and I loved watching them try to work things out. The sex scenes between these two are kindle melting hot (or paperback spontaneous combustion, depending on your reading preference). Even when they’re having a hard time getting along they just can’t seem to keep their hands off each other.
The other thing I really enjoyed about this book are the secondary characters. We see Ryder the owner of Aegis security and his assistant Marley as well as another operator Miller and Eve’s sister Olivia. I loved them all and I sense more stories coming…the question is how long will I (and my very impatient self) have to wait for them.
I highly recommend this book. There are two earlier novellas you may want to read as well but you don’t need too as this book is a standalone (but I have read one of them and enjoyed it very much). If you are looking for a gripping romantic suspense read, pick this one up, you won’t regret it. I received an ARC of this book from the publisher through Net Galley in exchange for an honest review.

This is my FIRST Elisabeth Naughton read. I have many books by her but this is the first one I have actually read. (Because I am a slacker... lol) And... (still searching for the right words) Just holy crap sticks. Amazing, insightful, suspenseful, HAWT and totally worth a re-read, soon.
First reactions...
The Story Line: Holy Crap! I never saw that coming!
The Sex: Sweet, Sweet baby Jesus, I feel the need for a ciggy after that!
The Plot Twists: I was clueless... And I love that fact.
My full review will be up soon but I will say I absolutely LOVED this story. the characters, the storyline and the totally hot and blush inducing sexiness of it all. This story has a little bit of everything a good romantic suspense is supposed to have in it. If I could give it more than 5 stars I would. Its totally worth 7/10... maybe 8/10.
Alright so, I have to say, again, I loved this book. This is a story that kept me on my toes. To the point where I was fussin' at the characters as the story went along. No matter whether I was on my phone reading or listening to my audiobook. Talk about getting funny looks. Ha. Aegis Security is not your average everyday security firm. No they are the Black Ops, can kill you before you see them coming type of security firm. The best of the best that are out of the 'business' so to speak. Retired military, DEA, CIA and all sorts of initials that just make you blink and nod.
Zane Archer is one of the members of Aegis. retired CIA operative that is now on a mission to catch Eve Wolfe. His ex-lover, ex-partner and his darkest desire. Archer is convinced that Eve sabotaged a mission which cost the life of the man they were there to rescue, cost him month's worth of time where he was laid up in the hospital after being hurt on that same mission. The anger and need for revenge grow and grow. A year later after six long months of tracking down untraceable "Juliet" he finds his woman. Though when he finds her.. he isn't expecting what happens to happen. Just as he is ready to close in a bomb goes off. Eve, aka Juliet goes down. Archer swipes her from the street and then the real fun begins.
When Eve wakes up in a dark room, having no idea what has happened or where she is she is overwhelmed to find Archer there. However, Archers plans of revenge have to be put on hold when someone busts into the storage facility he has Eve in. And the escape was no fun but they made it out.. somewhat unscathed. Eve does put Archer on his ass and yeah, that was kinda hot. Just Saying. This is when the real game of cat and mouse starts. Every time they think they have a pass something puts up a road block. If it's not their hormones it's a bad guy. And then another bad guy and yeah that cycle was frustrating the hell out of them. Why were they being targeted? What did they want? Why are they are on the chopping block?
Days go by and you know what time does for you right? Not a damn thing. Well in their case it gave both Archer and Eve time to get their heads out of their arses and start thinking like a team. For a little time anyway. The closeness that grows between them scares them, Eve especially. The things she knows could get her killed and on that same token they could get Zane killed. The people after her already took her sister once who is to say they wouldn't do it again. So Eve being Eve decides to take this into her own hands. She has to prove what she already knows. The man they think is bad, who happens to be her boss isn’t the guy they think he is.
Eve is trained. She is a CIA agent for Christ sake.. but she runs into trouble. Now its up to Archer to find her in time. And the clock is ticking

Extreme Measures is the first book in the Aegis Security series by Elisabeth Naughton. It is a fast paced romantic suspense novel focusing on Eve and Zane. Eve works for the CIA and Zane works for Aegis Security. They have a history together that ended when Eve ran and Zane was left believing she was a traitor. After Zane is injured during a covert mission gone wrong he becomes obsessed with tracking Eve down and making her pay.
I really liked Extreme Measure. The characters are interesting and the plot is engrossing. It's the type of story that makes you think. About how right and wrong isn't always black and white and about the hard decisions some people have to make. Eve is a very complex character that is haunted by the things that she has experienced and the decisions she has had to make. I'm always a fan of kickass heroines and Eve was that and more. I admired her and I felt for her. Her romance with Zane helped to soothe her soul.
I liked how Zane struggled with what he believed as truth as opposed to what his instincts were telling him. He never got over Eve and he just wants to find out the truth about her but even when he hears it, it takes some convincing for him to believe it. Their romance is raw and explosive. The chemistry is hot and the feelings run deep. The suspense is woven tightly with the romance and makes for a gripping read. We are introduced to other characters within Aegis Security and seeds are planted for future stories. I look forward to the next book in this series.
Extreme Measures is recommended to fans of romantic suspense.

This was a really well-written and fast-paced and entertaining romantic suspense novel of the military/special agent type. I liked it but for some reason, I didn’t love it. I can’t quite put my finger on what was missing because the execution from the characters to the drama to the passion and the romance was fine, but it just felt a little hollow. I can recommend this in. good conscience to people who like military/paramilitary action romance, but it’s not a book I’m passionate about. “It’s fine” and “there’s nothing wrong with it” are the lasting impressions I’m left with.

REVIEW:
Zane has never forgotten or forgiving the person who almost killed him in an ambush. For over a year he has been tracking and plan what he would do when he finally caught up with this person. Only one problem. The person he is after is also the person he is in love with. And finding her out cold from an explosion is not what he had in mind.
What was suppose to be a simple give me the truth and walk away session with Eve has turned into a run for our life's mission. Now the questions is who is setting them up? And what the heck does it have to do with Eve and Zane specifically?
Good first full length novel in Ms. Naughton’s Aegis Security series. Lots of action, lot of who do you trust and yes some romance. I really liked Zane & Eve. They are so well fitted together. I loved the side story of involving Eve’s sister Olivia. I am very much looking forward to what is next in this series. I am hoping for Miller and Olivia. Although I would love to see who is going to take down Ryder. :)

Second chance at love between CIA operatives who meet up again - well, except he’s convinced she’s a traitor and she’s convinced she can never love anyone when she works as a spy.
The Good
I got this as a Kindle Unlimited book - the story is interesting, the pace doesn’t let up, Archer is an interesting hero and Eve is a strong heroine. They’re a real partnership - they save each other, in more ways than one. Also, the usual trope of having one of the MCs closed off to their feelings actually has a genuine feel to it.
Eve lives in the gray areas as a spy and has done things for the greater good that aren’t always easy to live with. Archer is angry at first when they reunite, but the action takes them on the road and their feelings develop in a way that didn’t feel forced or unnatural. The mystery surrounding who is the mole within the CIA wasn’t a huge surprise, but it had enough of a twist at the end that I didn’t feel cheated.
The secondary plotline involving Eve’s sister Olivia and Archer’s friend Miller really intrigued me and I’d happily pay to read their book. There is no cliffhanger and this works well as a standalone, though I understand there are a couple of novellas based in this ‘verse already.
The Could Have Been Better
This is going to sound weird, but….there may have been a bit too much sex. They’re on the run for their lives and they had no problems finding time to hook up. Mind you, those were some pretty sexy times, so this really is a minor quibble.
The Bottom Line
A solid romantic suspense/action thriller. I’m wondering when the next book comes out.

*I received this book free from NetGalley by the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
Elisabeth Naughton’s new book is the beginning of a new romantic-suspense series. Eve Wolfe and Zane Archer were lovers a long time ago while Eve was working undercover for the CIA. Zane quit the CIA to work for Aegis, a privately owned organization that is a lot like the CIA but with less red-tape and restrictions. They are both in love, but do not say anything because they seem to be unaware of it. It all ends when Zane catches Eve doing something illegal, and when he accuses her of treason, she claims innocence and they both leave with hard feelings.
The story picks up years later when they meet again and begin a love/hate relationship. Both Eve and Zane are accused of treason, and they must prove their innocence while trying to stay safe while keeping other innocent people from dying in place of them. There is a side story about Eve’s sister that is so enthralling, I am hoping that she will be the heroine in the next book in this series.
This story is non-stop suspense, action and suspense. Once I started this , I could not put this book down! It mesmerized me so much that I couldn’t wait to see what was going to happen next. I will be honest and say that I have never read a book by Elisabeth Naughton before. But based on the quality of the writing and plot of this book, I intend to go back and read them all!

Eve and Zane have a long history together but not all of that history is good. They love each other but due to circumstances, neither is sure they can trust the other with national security issues. Who can be trusted? Suddenly, Eve and Zane have to decide whom they can trust with national security and their lives. Will they figure out that working together is better than working alone? Will Eve and Zane get their happily ever after?

A very entertaining spy romance. Lots of action and plot twists to keep the reader turning pages. Zane and Eve's courtship isn't smooth in the least, but the shower scene was a bit overdone for me. However, Naughton gave her hero a dry wit that made him so much sexier than other heroes in this genre. It was a welcome change. Zane cracked me up at times and I found myself rooting more for his HEA than Eve's! But it requires all of his kick ass qualities, patience and tenacity to win the girl and save the world. Since Eve is pretty kick ass herself there's never a dull moment.

I received Extreme Measures in exchange for a fair and honest review.
Elisabeth Naughton has been on my ‘auto TBR’ list since I picked up
Marked, the first book in her Eternal Guardians series. Her characters are smart, witty, brave and honest. Some are more than a little broken and whether she is writing PNR or Contemporary, she grabs my attention with action and suspense from page one. Extreme Measures was obviously no exception.
I’m not sure which one of these characters pulled me in more. I’m not saying that they both didn’t drive me nuts at times. They just took turns. ;) The author split time with the characters’ POV, which I really like. That time wasn’t limited to Eve and Zane. There were a lot of players involved, which definitely kept things interesting.
The action never stopped, the players kept shifting to the point that I almost needed a score card to keep track. The romance was both hot and sweet and intense. There were times that I wanted to shake both of these characters and just as many times that I wanted to hug them. The same goes for the supporting characters. This was pretty much the perfect set up for what promises to be an excellent series. As if I had any doubt.

I really enjoyed this book. The action was intense. The plot was intriguing, had a lot of suspense to it. The story also had a steamy hot romance going on between CIA operative Eve, and Aegis Security agent Zane. I've always been a sucker for a good thrilling action filled CIA book with a dash of romance. This book did not disappoint.
Here is a little sample from chapter two - The van exploded in a fireball that shot flames thirty feet into the air. Eve's body went sailing. Screams echoed around her. She hit something hard, registered a sharp stab in her skull, knew consciousness was leaving her. But before she blacked out, she saw the shops lining the street, the van, even the umbrellas outside the cafe she'd just been sitting in, all engulfed in flames. Flames that looked like they signaled the end of the world.

Naughton always writes great books! This one had all the good action I expected and good heat and tension between the characters, there was too much sex for me though and I found myself feeling the need to skim through some of those scenes. Also, nearing the end I was having trouble with the fact that neither character could believe/trust the other with their feelings.. That said I LOVED Landon Miller... I wanna say I have read about him in one of the other novellas also... and hope he gets his own story. I kept longing to read about him and I found after reading about him Zane wasn't as appealing as I wished he'd been. Even though this all sounds like a lot of negatives.. it really isn't. This book is definitely a worth a read. Very much looking forward to her next book!

I am normally not against a good steamy sex scene. It can add that spicy flavor to a good story. This book, however, is almost half sex scenes which detract from a good storyline. Yeah, yeah, I know there are readers who want that percentage, but it is a waste when a talented author falls into that trap.
I have read other books by Naughton that are more equally balanced so I won't get discouraged after this one book.

Extreme Measures, Elisabeth Naughton
Review from jeannie zelos book reviews
This book is the first in a new romantic suspense series from Elisabeth. It's written in her usual tightly plotted style, with numerous twists and turns. So many in fact that I was way off base in my ( ever changing ) guesses at who was behind everything. I loved Zane, he's so protective of Eve, even when he thinks she may be a traitor. Eve is in love with him, from when they were on a job together a while back and they had a secret hot and heavy fling. She doesn't want to get her heart broken again though and – very importantly to her – she thinks she'll bring Zane into danger and that if he knows all that she's done he'll turn against her. Better to get out before that happens, so after that last job she stayed out of contact. Now after a job has gone wrong Zane is back in the picture trying to help her, to get the truth from her, but they are both plunged into a nightmare scenario where its clear there's someone pulling strings but not who...
I love the rapport between Eve and Zane, that he doesn't get to trust her straight off after all those months of feeling she's to blame for the last mission. It makes for an edgy relationship where they are both angry with each other, won't or can't let the past go, and sexually the attraction between them is visceral and hard to ignore – but they try – for a while...
I enjoyed this, its a great story and as ever I'm awed by how writers pull together such a tight story when the questions raised are myriad. There must be a huge amount of research goes into how diffferent Gov departments work. It's easy to feel that this could be real – that official bodies take a pragmatic view of lives and do whats most efficient and effective, what will keep their secrets hidden for the good of the whole...
Stars: 4.5. If you like thrillers, you love this fast paced and sensual novel.

Another terrific story in this Aegis series. Alas I have read the books in reverse order but they are all free standing stories and enjoyable ones at that. From a thriller with erotica at times it reverted to erotica with thriller however this is the style of these books and it certainly livens things up. It's a strong story with loads of little twists in it and thoroughly smooth and well written. Highly recommended as well as the other 2 +0.6 books in the Aegis series .

Fantastic storyline about a security for hire firm based on ex military. Fast moving with lots of action. Well written story covering the plot and revenge. Character descriptions were fantastic. One could almost visualize each person. Love just above everything associated with this tale except felt no one really needed the hard core sex scenes. Some romance would be fine but unfortunately all the descriptive sex made the book a little trashy.

This was a pretty good read! Action-packed with good characters. I liked that Eve was the tough, hardened one and Zane was more open and honest; it was a nice change. The plot wasn't the most engaging part, it was definitely more of a character/romance story, but the action scenes were well done. I'll definitely be checking out the other books in this series!

I could do without the explicit romance, but all in all, it was a great story with a good plot. Caution on the audible: it strays more than most and changes one of the names of the characters at the end. Threw me off.

Such a beautiful adult contemporary novel that is packed with action and romance. It is just right up my alley. It is like watching the TV series Alias, Covert Affairs, or Nikita but way better in my opinion. The story is so entertaining. The author has created great characters who bring out the best out of them. I can't wait to read the next installment, Lethal Consequences.

If very graphic sex makes you uncomfortable you should probably not buy this book because it is a skinny thriller heavily padded with chick fantasy. The plot was promising even though the characters are a bit sketchy, for example, the heroine never seems to need to bathe. I understand this is fiction but I prefer my thrillers to be somewhat believable.

This book has more "romance" scenes than it does the actual storyline. Personally if I want this much bedroom action, I will get smut books or watch porn, but the story was pretty good, once you find it.
