I bought David Gets in Trouble because my granddaughters LOVED No, David. I was dismayed, disheartened and disgusted when I read David Gets in Trouble because with the exception of a couple of pages it is the exact same book as No, David. I really feel cheated by David Shannon. The hard back books are not inexpensive and I expected a book with a completely new story NOT a story that was the same as No, David. Shame on you David Shannon.

An open and delightful way of approaching taking responsibility for our own actions. David Shannon has a way of making his point without belaboring the issue or making a child feel as though he/she is a hopeless case.

The book is OK, but pictures like a child sitting with a bar of soap in his mouth for saying a bad word might not be appropriate by today's child abuse laws. the store is not allowing me to post thoughts on where I purchased it from, or the real condition of the book, so this is much shorter than original review.

Dude this book is terrible. If you're looking for a book to assist in teaching your child a valuable lesson, keep looking. This book is basically a list of 10 excuses and the last page (SPOILER ALERT) is "You're right. I am sorry" or some lame crap like that. It offers zero depth (obviously I know it's a kids' book, I mean it offers not even a little lesson-depth) and no reason for how or why David finally stops making those ten excuses the book just taught your kid about. Each page is approximately a three word sentence for a whopping total of about 40 words in this book, MAYBE. Just huge pictures and scrawled lettering. Each spread is exactly like the cover. Might pay $0.50, definitely not whatever you're about to pay. Skip it.

This book was in the worst condition imaginable. The seller had it listed as good. It has been taped together poorly and not fully keeping the book together. The pages were terribly crinkled. I paid more in shipping than the book was worth. Rather than returning it - I recycled it. Even children who need books desperately, deserve better.

Entering into the Library, I saw "David Get in Trouble" sitting on one of the shelf props, and I remember getting all giggly inside because I couldn't wait to get in for my children. Now, fast forward to that night when I sat down to read the short-story, I remember opening the book and being disappointed as each turned into another one.
During my childhood, I remember having this book read to me multiple times, and after reading it to my children I realized that those individuals must have embellished. The illustrations were amazing, don't get me wrong, but words were short and clipped. I feel like all he did throughout the story was scream and fuss, with nothing done for repercussions.

Definitely the worst children's book I've ever seen. It teaches kids all the typical bad excuses that any good parent wouldn't want them to say, so I'm finding it very odd that people are rating this so high. The artwork, if you can even call it that, is also incredibly creepy and just not very good. I'm not saying all children's book have to be cute or whatever, but David is just plain ugly and creepy looking. Some children's books artists may purposefully create artwork that looks like they were drawn by children in order to relate to the kids, but in this case, I don't think it's done on purpose--Shannon just simply can't draw and it is reflected on every page. There is nothing good about this book.

David Shannon has little boys and their behavior pretty well nailed here. David, the little boy in the book is soooo typical. He simply cannot stay out of trouble and, when he is inevitability caught, it is never ever his fault. He has an excuse for everything. To be honest, Daid is a pretty fast and creative thinker for a little one. You sort of have to admire that trait in a kid. Obviously most little boys will grow out of this, but it is a part of the fun of being a kid. I doubt seriously if a child will read this book and pick up "bad ideas" from it. Those ideas have already been learned from parents and friends by this age. The art work in this small book is great and quite appealing. Great story, great characters, great art and the kids love to have the book read to them. What more could you want?

Irrepressible David is back in all his little boy glory, and as he tells us on the title page, "NO! It's not my fault!" Whether he's skateboarding into furniture, making a silly face during class pictures, pulling the cat's tail, or eating the dog's biscuits, burping loudly at meals, sneaking a taste of icing off the cake before dinner, or saying bad words, he's got a logical answer for everything. "I didn't mean to!" "I forgot!" "I couldn't help it!" "No, it wasn't me!" "It was an accident!" "But Dad says it!" Nothing is really his fault, he's just a victim of circumstance. Or is he... Late at night, lying in bed, David has an epiphany, "Yes! It was me!" and apologizes to his mother as she tucks him, lovingly, back in bed..... David Shannon captures the essence of a busy, take charge preschooler, filled with manic energy, in this sequel to No, David! and David Goes To School. Little ones will easily identify with the trials and tribulations of David's world as he rockets through his day from one mishap to the next. Mr Shannon's exaggerated, bold and bright, childlike illustrations steal the show with marvelous facial expression and hilarious details. David Gets In Trouble begs to be read aloud at story time, and is sure to be an often asked for preschool crowd pleaser.

David is a little boy who is always into something. He goes about his day getting into lots of things he shouldn't. He unrolled the toilet paper off the roll in the bathroom. He refuses to eat his supper, uses the bathroom in his diaper, and will not be still to get dressed for bed! His mom has a hard time with him. When it's bedtime she reads him a story and tells him she loves him!
The book demonstrates that even when a child makes bad choices, parents love them anyway.
The book is great for babies and toddlers. It's made of sturdy board pages and has very little text.

This book is beyond awful. It will break your child and undo all of the parenting that you've done. It is a list of excuses for kids to use when they misbehave, and gives ideas on how to misbehave. The child spends the whole book lying and is a horrible role model. The "lesson" at the end falls on deaf ears. Buying this book is the second biggest parenting mistake that I've made (the first was buying "No, David").

Okay, I have very impressionable, incorrigible nieces and nephews. If they read this book, they would run even more amok! David gets in trouble on every page. I think it would be a cute book for the kid who never got in trouble, but with my rambunctious group - No way! LOL This seems to be a popular author, so I will try a couple of his other books and see if they are more in keeping with funny escapes (not just talking back and pouting) and occasional consequences. The illustrator is phenomenal though and really love the colors and expressions throughout the book.

In the story David Gets in Trouble By David Shannon I think it is a terrific book. It takes place in the house. The characters are David, and his mom. It is about a boy named David that gets in trouble all the time. Close to the end it is a funny part. The pictures are hilarious. The words are great. It is a fantastic story too!

I read this book to my daughters and was surprised by the jolting abrupt change from outright denial and lack of responsibility to contrition in the title character. He spends the majority of the book happily causing mayhem, and either lying about it or making excuses...and then, at night changes his mind...with no reason given as to why. There are no consequences to his actions, in only one page is he shown getting into actual trouble. He wasn't punished or told that what he was doing was wrong. It is an unsatsfying end, and misses teaching a lesson.

This is definitely not as entertaining as the original "No, David!" or even "David goest to school" but if you are like my kids and me, a David fan, you will still get some enjoyment out of it. Overall, like the previous books, it still manages to express the magic of childhood: the right to make mistakes, expect forgiveness and mosty importantly, love.

My( little stinker) grandson (3 years old) can't get enough of this book. We've read it so many times he can now 'read' it to me! I've now bought all the David books, and we read them all every time we are together.

This book is excellent for the PreK child. I introduced my grandaughter to the whole 'David' series when she was 3, she is now 6 and still loves her David books, and now she can read all of them by herself.

The first 2 David books are hysterical & had my kids rolling on the floor. This one needed some explaining as to why what he was doing was wrong. I was a little disappointed with this one, but a huge fan of the others.

I have put this book away indefinitely. Ever since reading this to my twins (almost 3 years old) they have decided to imitate David and pull the cat's tail. I am not sure I understand the message intended from this book. Is it funny to be naughty? David's does not experience enough consequences from his misbehavior.
