My little grand-daughter lives on the opposite coast and those 3000 plus miles seem like a million miles at times. I send small packages and cards often to keep "grandma" in her consciousness, ha! This was a perfect fit for our friendship....thanks!

I homeschool and this is a good book for teaching K and 1st grade kids their "place" in the world. It starts with a girl mapping her room and extends all the way to her place on the globe. It is a really fun easy way to introduce geography/maps.

I needed a book to create a social studies lesson plan for an elementary age class for my college class. This book was perfect for a lesson on maps. It was simple enough the kids weren't confused and interesting enough that they didn't get bored!

This is a great foundational book for introducing students to the basic concept of map and to the physical map. It is very simply written in a very understandable way. More enhanced books can be used as bricks for building on this book. We homeschool, and we have used this book. The girls are ready for more map study now.

My granddaughter loves this book, BUT it fell apart after about 6 months of use. The binding was very poor. All of the books in this series are wonderful with exception of the binding. I ended up buying it with library binding.

Was very disappointed in this book. Felt the book should have more demonstrations & reading. My Grandson is in 1st Grade and he was bored with the book. Would not recommend purchasing this item.

This is an excellent way to introduce mapping to young children. I've used it successfully with children ages 4-8 and it's never failed. I love the way that it starts with the child and then moves to the child's room, their house, their street, town, state, country and world. It has a nice message about how everyone fits on the map.

Perfect book for introducing geography and your child's place in the world (earth, state, city, street, home, and bedroom). We also used for inspiration on drawing our first map (bedroom). Later on, we will use it to draw our own maps of our street, house, and city. The next to last page is pretty sweet too. Its children all over the world,..."everybody has their own special place on the map." Buy this one.

In all my years as an elementary school librarian, this has to be the best introduction to maps that I have seen for primary grades. It is written at a 1.7 reading level, which makes it accessible to first through third grades. In our school, the third grade teachers do a unit on communities, and this title ties in beautifully with that.
I like the way Joan Sweeney starts with, "This is me" and builds the concept through "my room," "my house," "my street," and on to town, state, country and the world. Then she goes backwards until she concludes with "...everybody has their own special place on the map. Just like me."

A very simplistic but impacting look at maps from a me/mine perspective beginning with her room, house, street... all the way to world and then back to room. The theme is "everyone has a special place in the world and this is how you'll find me"; using a map. The illustrations of the map are very vague in terms of detail, but gives a great relative perspective of the area it comprises. It will introduce the younger children and provide a more vivid explanation to the older ones. I would recommend ages K-4th grades.

What a great book. Great pictures. After reading it we sat down and made a map of my 4 year old's room. If only it explained the difference between living out in the country (like on a farm) and living in a different country (like China or Australia). But I can't complain. We love it!

This book mirrors the approach to learning "place" that I had envisioned when I began teaching my daughter. It starts with the girl making a map of her own room, then moves outward to the whole world. Then it spirals back from the world to her room, showing how you can find your place on each map. It is so simple and so perfect. My daughter read it out loud endlessly starting when she was almost six, and it kicked off an intense interest in maps and places. I'm going to try another book in this series ("Me and My Family Tree").
