A touching, funny, poignant personal account of Biden's long public service, from his point of view as a family man. I've been stringing this along as a "reading treat" whenever I need a pick-me-up at the end of a day. Makes one contemplate one's own life, and what's worth while.

In describing how he handled his important job and dealing with his sons illness made me realize what a remarkable individual Joe Biden is. One doesn't realize all the responsibility the vice-president has given to him.

One of the best autobiographies i have ever read. Joe has devoted his life to serving the public, a very straight forward, honest, good, and hard working man tells the story of his great loss and how he buries himself with work to forget the great loss. I wish him the best
The Mandibles: A Family, 2029–2047 :: The Other Queen (The Tudor Court series) :: Orphan Hero: A Novel of the Civil War :: The Lords of the North (The Last Kingdom Series - Book 3) :: secrets and murder - The Daughters Of Red Hill Hall

A beatifully written and heartwarming story of love and loss. The strength of Joe and his family is an inspiration to any family facing this type of challenge. I could not stop reading it, and am not ashamed to say that I cried when his beloved son came to the end of his struggle.

Loved his honesty. Loved how he talked about his family, you could actually feel the love thru his writing. I think he is a great man and after reading his book have more respect for him didn't care about the talk with all the leaders and such, lost me there. But think all should read his book. Joe for president.

Vice President Biden has artfully intertwined his love of family and his deep sense of duty to provide the human context for a unimaginably painful decision—for himself, for his family, and for the millions of us who long for a starkly different narrative than the one we are all living today. He is, at heart, a decent man of the people, the kind of fellow you’d like to live next door to, the kind you’d want as president.

Incredible. Plan to ugly cry, a lot. The Biden family is absolutely incredible, and I can't imagine being able to solve the world's most challenging problems while silently dealing with your son's stage 4 brain cancer. It's almost as though you can hear VP Biden telling the story. It provided so much insight into the relationship between Obama and Biden, and the respect that VP Biden rightfully earned.

This book is a must read, regardless of your politics! If you are a living, breathing, emotion feeling human, read it. I'm glad I got the audio book because having Joe Biden as the narrator made the book even more convincing and evoking.

Good read; interesting, sad.....but I'd have liked a little less of him and a little more of his son. It does show though that it doesn't matter how old you are, what your wealth status is, cancer is the great equalizer.....we all suffer the same....

Thoroughly enjoyed this book. Love Joe Biden, and after reading this book love him even more. The raw pain he’s had to endure to lose people he loved dearly is just heartbreaking. Somehow he found the inner courage to forge on. Not only is he courageous but honorable and sincere.

Joe is honest and speaks from his heart. I purchased the hardcover along with the audible version and I highly recommend both. Joe has a heart of gold and his love for his family, the country and for his late son is so pure and authentic. I admire him even more than I did before.

I have always had great respect for Joe Biden. This book did not disappoint. It was a great insight to him as a family man, their challenges and what was expected of him as the vice president. There were times I cried along with them and felt their pain of losing Beau. It was truly inspiring on how close they are as a family. It was an easy read and I would recommend to anyone,

As a very conservative Republican I enjoyed and appreciated Vice President Biden’s candor, strength, and heart. I’ve never met the man, but can easily imagine enjoying an adult beverage with him discussing a variety of topics- many of which we would disagree on. God must know how strong he is to choose him to be the witness that he has been to other families who have lost loves ones prematurely.

A good man!

Vice President Biden shows us his heart and soul in this genuine account of the loss of a son. Thank you Vice President Biden for letting us, the readers, get to know you , your son Beau and your family. Your story is no different than any other American. I appreciate your world view and hopes. A must read for anyone regardless of party.

The book was poignant, tender and told a personal story while also telling the story of real politics without minimizing its realities.

The family relationship is one many long for themselves. Makes you wanna be in the Biden family and wished the presidential election had worked in his favor.

I'm always impressed with his willingness to share his private pain. It often helps to relieve some of your own pain when you know you're not alone.
He is so open and honest that I sometimes feels he's in the room talking to me.

Not inspiring as I had hoped! Too much detail about his political life. Though I admire Biden, I had looked forward to greater emphasis on his relationship with the son he lost, but the book drags at the outset. As a mother who once lost a teenage son, I was hoping for that emphasis and inspiration.

I loved this book especially because VP Biden told the story on audible version. He and his family seem so rare these days when class, intelligence and integrity seem a rare commodity. His faith in God, true love and devotion to his son Bo are a story worth reading. I highly recommend this book.
