I just finished my advanced reader copy of this book. This was a really dark read and I wasn't sure if I would be able to finish it. Alana was kidnapped by Jacobs father and repeatedly beaten and raped. Jacob was basically In the same situation with his father but didn't get locked in a cage. They craved violence and came together years after she escaped after they killed his father. They were predators for the same kind of people as his father and to escape the law they would do anything.

This is an unusual love affair engaging into a dark and twisted extremely intense book that goes beyond into darker and disturbing. Both characters were full of amazing strength and able to push on after the hell they endured. It's a balance between a traumatic, violent relationship and a romance that the reader can buy into. Well written and an easy story to get lost and wrapped into the feeling of the burdens and harshness throughout. I recieved a digital arc and am voluntarily reviewing

I am honestly and voluntarily reviewing an Advanced Reader’s Copy of this book from Hidden Gems ?
Whispers in the Dark was shocking, disturbing, and horrifying, and one of the darkest books I’ve read. At times, I had to take a break from reading. Jacob and Alana were so damaged, but not broken. How they showed their love, commitment, devotion to each other was shocking. Be ready for the ride of your life, this was a tough read, but so worth it. LeTeisha Newton has a new fan.

I can't emphasize enough how dark this story is. If you have a weak stomach or don't like severe punishments, thia is not for you. Alana's first 18 years were normal an typically bright. That is until she was captured and imprisoned by an evil torturing captor. Her captorer has a son, born of another captive woman. He swears he will do anything for Alana. When she eventually escapes, Jacob follows in her footsteps. I was given this ARC from Hidden Gems for an honest review.

Definitely not a book for the squimish. Read the warnings. Now that being said if you like dark books this is for you! It was an awesome book. Very original. And I almost had to stop reading a couple times. The writing was that good. You feel like you're there in with the H&h and experiencing what they were. I didn't know how it was going to end until the last chapters, and couldn't wait to find out if the H&h worked through their issues, and if they could accept the other or change even slightly. I was given an arc and this is my own opinion. Now I must read some other books by the author, she's amazing!

HOLY DARKNESS!!! This is a twisted, dark, cruel but with an HEA. It takes Jacob and Alana awhile to get there and they have to go through hell, but they get there. This was a hard read for me, and if this kind of dark theme is not for you, please skip this book. I don't want to give anything away, so you will have to read this book.
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book and this is my voluntary and honest review.

Be warned this read is dark and intense. Alana and Jacob survive the unimaginable at the hands of Jacob’s father. Alana is finally able to escape however Jacob is left behind. Eight years later Jacob finds her again and this time he plans on keeping her for himself. Both Alana and Jacob are broken but try to do good in their own way. The story really grips you from beginning to end. A difficult read but a very good one.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review:
This is not a book I would typically choose to read. It is very well written, I applaud the offer for that. But the subject matter is dark, violent and disturbing. It isn’t BDSM, the sex is violent and honestly, disgusting. I nearly quit reading at several points, but I never DNF books, and I suppose curiosity got the best of me. If there are sequels, I’ll pass.

This book is by far the darkest, and most twisted I've ever read. This book bring every parents nightmare to light. Child abduction, rape of female children, rape of a male child, horrendous continuing torture. It includes self induced abortions and many many murders. There was no light anywhere in this book. I couldn't put this book down. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.

Alana and Jacob is a love story, a mystery/ horror story definitely not for the squeamish. It begins with the Alana’s kidnapping at 17 by Jacobs demented father. From that page to the last strap yourself in tight cause sh*t gets real and raw. Only thing left to say is hope they don’t reproduce because they redefined murderous mayhem! Edgy, explosive and dark story that had me holding my breath.
This turbulent read is not for the rain of heart...so you've been warned!
That said, sit back and enjoy this twisted story about a beth relevant issue.
How it's executed you'll have to read and find our!
Well written with an easy to follow flow, the story of Alani and Jacob is better left going in blindly!

This was a very disturbing read for me even though I’ve previously read other dark stories. The main characters, Alana and Jacob, go through so much that I had to reread and then stop to take a breather in order to gather my thoughts. I was pretty much worn out by the end of this book. Shocking read. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.

Yes. This is a DARK and twisted story. Probably the darkest I've ever read. So well written. Ms. Newton is very talented. The story is fast paced, well described, sick, twisted, very violent, very entertaining. Only read if you like dark romance. But, if you do, this is a must read.

A masterpiece of dark romance. You have to be ready for this kind of intense tale. Some parts could be disturbing so be prepared. *voluntarily reviewing ARC* ok, the story is dark and twisty. Not exactly what I would look for but kept me intrigued. Alana and Jacob find a crazy connection. They both crave the darkness because it is what they know best. Their lives molded by a sick man. At least they find love with each other

I don’t even have appropriate words. This is not an easy story to read. It’s beyond dark and twisty. It puts you right in the mind of psychotic people and makes you question if this is fiction or reality, as it literally is written , to me that is, as if Ms LeTeisha Newton was a priestess taking confession from those dark and crazy people and sculpted their words in to this story

Well goodness what a little gem this book turned out to be. Went into it totally blind. Let me warn you, if you have triggers or don’t like to read dark books, please stay away from this one. Or at least read the warning:
Warning: This book is full of triggers. It’s wicked dark, with created evil falling in love. People die. They are hurt horribly. The bad guys get away, and there is no apology for it. Hardcore trigger within these pages.
Alana was an all-American high school student. Living in the all-American suburb town. Just got the big yes from her father that he would be able to take her to the father-daughter dance. Life is GOOD. Walking to school, high on life, thinking of her blueberry pop tart…
Jacob has been raised by the devil himself. Never leaving the house except with his father. Never going to school, always homeschooled. Has been raised that women are brought into the house for the sole purpose of becoming a ‘toy’.
When “the devil” himself promises Jacob, a new toy is coming and will be Jacob’s toy only, it’s exciting to think his father deems him worthy of his own toy now. What Jacob has learned though is that when father tells you one thing, it’s not necessarily going to happen.
The journey is not a pleasant one.
Can these two survive? If they do survive, will they be able to live a ‘normal’ life after what they’ve gone through?

Oh my goodness, LeTeisha Newton’s WHISPERS IN THE DARK is everything that I have always wondered about: will a romance story that breaks every single rule in the genre work? Of course, it will be great if I love this one, and it will also be a nice way to validate all my grumbles about the safe nature of the genre. But you know me, I have to be honest so sadly enough, I have to admit that my reaction to this one is sort of 50-50. I like a big chunk of it, but the technical aspects of the story leave me cold.
Alana Rose meets the hero Jacob when his father kidnaps her to be his sex slave and captive. She is eighteen at that time, and the story spans the years when she is brutalized by her father and finding what little succor in Jacob’s comparatively milder and gentler attention, and it doesn’t end when she finally manages to get away from the two men. I won’t say say more, as there are plenty of interesting twists and turns in the story line that are worth finding out on your own if you want to read this story.
Now, I like the concept of the story, and I love just how well the author doesn’t sugarcoat her story at all. Everything that can happen to a captive victim of a psychopath happens to Alana, and worse of all, she is not the only captive of that sick animal, and hence, the sick animal also uses the other captive to torment Alana with guilt and worse. For example, he will hurt the other girl if Alana doesn’t play along, and we are not talking about a slap on the wrist here. I also love the way the author manages to create a believable kind of bond between Alana and Jacob throughout the beautifully perverse and nauseating story.
However, as I’ve said, there are some technical aspects of the story that jar me out of it. One noticeable issue is that these characters don’t speak like a typical person in their situation. For example, when the other captive meets Alana, she tells Alana, “Welcome to Purgatory.” Huh? Of course, that kind of statement may work if we want that poor dear to make a dramatic entrance, but it’s all wrong for that scene. That girl should be blubbering instead. It’s the same for other characters – they can sometimes speak in a tone that feels jarringly flippant or showy compared to the situations they are in, and each time that happens, I am forcibly reminded that I am reading a work of fiction.
The author is also guilty of using short cuts at times to drive home the whole “Alana and Jacob are meant to be” thing, such as this:
"''Don’t be frightened. I’m Jacob.'
"Jacob. It was a simple name, but one I could hold on to in this place, like Celia’s.
"Celia frowned at him. 'Why are you here?'
"Jacob winked at her, and my heart stuttered in my chest when he tossed her a lopsided grin. What the hell was wrong with me? When his gaze swung back to me, I shrank away. I didn’t want him to see me like this, and whatever he held in his hands wrapped in a paper towel terrified me. Was this a test?"
This happens early in Alana’s captivity, too early for Stockholm’s syndrome to realistically set in. I don’t know about anyone else, but if I were kidnapped by a sadistic villain, the last thing I will notice is how hot a guy is. Or have my heart “stutter” when he smiles at someone else. Again, scenes like this one remind me that I am reading a work of fiction. Such unrealistic instances also happen later in the story, especially frequently after Alana and Jacob meet again a few years after she is freed from his father, and I can only wonder whether, even after making her story so twisted and dark, the author is still feeling a twinge of insecurity about readers’ reaction to this story if she goes to undercut the effect of her story with such unrealistic moments.
At the end of the day, I don’t think I will forget WHISPERS IN THE DARK for a while, so I can’t say that the author hasn’t done her job well. In fact, this has been a remarkably painless read that frequently thrills the part of me who loves watching violent B-grade horror flicks. I just wish the story had been put together a little better. Still, if you want a read that will take you screaming down a truly sick and perverse dark side, this one is worth a look.

Deliciously dark. I happen to have a sick fascination with this type of book...and this one dives right down into the twistedness of horrorific triggers and unexplained attraction. This book will not be for everyone. If you are all rainbows and unicorns when looking for love and relationships, steer clear of this one. Even some that enjoy darker romance may not be able to handle all that this story throws at you so be warned. BUT for those of you that can handle the storyline, this book is phenomenal!!! The story is well written and explores the depths of the human mind and body after living through a horrific experience...how it shapes and molds your future, how it can change you completely and without explanation, and just how far someone will go to right wrongs even in their own tormented ways. This is SVU meets Criminal Minds from the unsub POV and I LOVED every word!! I can't wait to read more from this author.

Ever read a book where you flinch and wanna close your eyes but you need the light to get out of such darkness? This is that book. Dark, crazy, intense and so much more. Alana is a normal girl until one day her life changes forever. Jacob his whole world has been darkness until a glimpse of light called Alana. What a twisted insane story that I never wanted it to end. The characters make you feel so many different emotions it grips at your heart. Definitely a top 2018 dark romance of mine! 5/5 stars ****Reviewed by Sweet & Spicy Reads a voluntarily Advanced Reader Copy of this book ****

Ms. Newton weaved such an entrancing story taking us into the twisted world of Purgatory with Jacob & his dad and showing the weird limited formation the son got at his father's hand where he learnt that girls are meant to be toys: owned & tortured... It makes you further understand the character & why he is the way he is. Ms. Newton showed how the son and the kidnapped girls are both victims.
I enjoy books in which you see characters overcome obstacles they face and grow and this was one of them.
Although it's not your typical romance read and was a bit too much at times, it was intense and captivating.
The twists and turns in this book kept me glued and, I did not want to put it down waiting to see what would happen to Jacob & Alana and wanting them to succeed.

If you love Harley Quinn and Joker, you will fall HARD for Alana and Jacob. Darkness is the common denominator, and this book is NOT for the faint of heart. These two characters found love even through all the evil, vile things they've experienced. Ms. Newton shows incredible prowess in her writing through the depth of her plots and character development. No stone goes unturned. If you love seeing the monsters fall in love, this IS the book for you.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book. This is a dark book that quickly draws you into the lives of Jacob and Alana. The book starts with Alana asking her Dad to go to the father-daughter dance just like a normal 18 year old before walking off to school. That was the last normal day Alana ever had as she was taken by a crazed serial kidnapper. Alana is raped and tortured by the man. Jacob, the man’s son is also tortured by his father, and his taste of reality is only what he has ever seen his father do. Alana and Jacob form an alliance and eventually together end their captivity by Jacob’s father. But this is where Jacob and Alana part for many years until Jacob finds Alana again. Will their tortured pasts allow them to love each other? You have to read to find out.

First and foremost I'd like to reiterate the trigger warning. This book is dark and has many triggers scattered throughout. If you are even slightly uncomfortable when it comes to certain things do not get this book. Of course if you're like me and you like all things dark, the darker the better then you will absolutely love this book.
This book is written so well and proves that even broken, messed up people can find love in the worst of situations. I love all the dark elements in this book. I loved this deliciously dark romance and highly recommend it to anyone that loves the sick twisted things that can happen in a dark romance. If that's you then one-click today, you will not be disappointed.

Whispers in the Dark was really dark and twisted and I loved it.

This book comes with a content warning at the start. It should be read. This book is not for everyone. There's rape, violence and so much darkness in this book. But despite that it was a fantastically written book. No it's not for everyone. But if the darkest side of taboo is your thing, then Newton has you covered with this book.
