Welllllll... I really don't know what to say. There have been very few times that I been as disappointed in a series conclusion as with Demonhome.
From years of medieval time lifestyle stories and setting overlain with magic and wizardry to end in dimensional travel to post apocalyptic modern times facing AI and modern weapons and computers was a shock and very off putting.
I am sorely upset at one of my most favorite authors that this is how he finished the series and am, quite truthfully, as disappointed as I can imagine being.

Michael Manning is always at the top of his game. This book is definitely in the style of Mr. Manning. Absolutely Fantastic. The plot takes the reader to a high expectation level and drops us down to another adventure that wasn't anticipated. Mystery, Magic, Technological realms that only a writer like Michael could invent and make it seem possible. I have never been disappointed with any of Michael's works and I assure you, future readers;, if you have never read any of his works before, I guarantee, you will back pedal to the beginning of this series. I am awaiting his next offering as soon a possible. Kudo's Michael, you did it again!

I generally like the author's books since they provide an interesting basis to make magic a science with rules and limits rather than a vague concept mostly used at opportune moments to change a story's course. This book makes a trend started in the last book in the series, Centyr Dominance, that the author is straying from his core formula. It seems like he wants to get into scifi but he does not have any new ideas for the genre or the comparative depth of the fantasy parts in comparison to much less elaborated on scifi elements gives scifi elements of his stories a cliched result. I felt like I was reading a fantasy infused kids version of terminator (the movie) the much of the time I was reading it.
Additionally this book does not feel like the end of a series, it feels like a set up book for a conclusion elsewhere. It would have worked better if this was book two and Centyr Dominance was book three since the story arc that binds the books together actually concludes in book two.

TL;DR: Fantasy author dips toe into scifi. Ends up rewriting Terminator.

This book brought a new and interesting world into play. The dedication the character shows to helping a stranger is inspiring. The book is wonderful and full of surprises. I cannot wait for the next one.
