So then why isnt it four stars? EDITING, Terry needs to get a new editor badly. There were typos everywhere such a yuo instead of you, some sentences even stopped halfway through. However the worst example is at a certain point in a book a man named Kaviel dies (not important) then a few pages later he is said to be attending a meeting of the soldiers, hmm how does that work? It then again says hes dead a few pages after that., its rediculous. How was this missed?!

Now for the rest, if you can manage to ignore the poor editing it is a great book. The author aplits it into two simultaneous stories, one in the past and one in the present. This creates a good alternating balance between the more action oriented parts and the meat of the story. Unfortuantly it also hurts the plot some making it feel choppy and not flowing easily at times.

All in all i feel this book is an improvement on the first and hope the trend continues.

HOWEVER i recommend waiting to see if the author will release an updated and IMPROVED version editting wise.

The Spellmonger book was great but this book was sensational! It had political intrigue, cloak and dagger, and (of course) a great deal of action. Our hero has matured into a full-fledged war mage and is leading "The Order" into battle. Wonderful detail abounds. This is one of the best books that I have read and I have read MANY. The author really went all out on this and it shows. There were quite a few typos, however. Exactly who is "Master XXXX himself took over his care"?

The Spellmonger Series is my favorite fantasy series. Terry has crafted a full world with an amazing history. This series has characters like Firefly and a world like Lord of the Rings. Simply amazing!
The Reluctant Mage: Book One in the Zandar Series :: Spellmonger: Spellmonger, Book 1 :: Knights Magi: The Spellmonger Series, Book 4 :: Necromancer: Book Ten Of The Spellmonger Series :: Enchanter: Book Seven Of The Spellmonger Series

Mt Mancour kicks a goal with this one..again. This is so much fun to read & the characters are growing & changing in a fascinating manner. I bought & read this book within 24 hours. I am now going over the bits I enjoyed the most. I can't wait for the next book. Warmage (The Spellmonger Series)

But way too much repetition. The Author keeps repeating the same background info again and again. Had to skip these sections to get to the meat of the story. Need some polishing, but it's a beta version... so cool with that.

Will buy the next in series, Magelord.

When there is money envolved, being able to tell a story isn't good enough.
Contradictions and typo's betray the reader and detract from the author 's credibility.
I find myself too distracted by the mistakes and inconsistencies to follow this author 's rambling and overpadded (overstuffed?) style.
A proper publisher might be able to save it, but it would be much thinner.
As a dedicated reader I would not recommend this book.
Having spent money on it I am disappointed with my purchase.

Having only read two of these books I cannot state that this is a "Great Series",however they are a "good read".The characters are reasonably well developed, the "universe" (i.e. society culture and history) drawn fairly well. While the overall plot is not original there is a sufficiently unique approach that the books are not a hackned generic set.The mixture of action, politics ,and personal life is well done.Having read fantasy since 1964 (as a teenager) this is not Lord of the Rings ,but is a good, solid read well worth the investment of time as well as money.

The spellmonger series (books 1-6)
Spellmonger, Warmage, Magelord, Knights Magi, High Mage, & Journey Mage.
I read all six books in one long set. I literally went from one book right to the next, no stopping to read anything else. Nor stopping to write a review except for book 1, which is why I'm doing it this way. I really enjoyed this series, and the great bit of news is that the series continues for at least 3 more books. The next book "Enchanter" is suppose to be out in June, 2015. Yay!!
This series follows the life of a male Mage who was procured for a war and following that just wants to settle in a quiet little town and be a simple spellmonger--using magic to fix warts, heal colds, etc.
But that's not in the cards for this Mage because a war begins with the Gurvani--short, black furred, upright walking creatures that usually live within the mountains and usually only venture out at night. There's an upset Gurvani spirit that comes back for revenge against the human race and presents himself as a God, Shereul. His goal: to wipeout the human race and take all of the land for the Gurvani. They kill, enslave and sacrifice humans. Shereul grows stronger with every sacrifice; so strong that he has become unstoppable. But the Spellmonger, Minalan will not give up the human race that easily. Min gains power thru stones of Irionite that he takes from the Gurvani Shaman. He shares the Irionite with other mages and begins his power politically as well as physically.
There are so many other characters in the story that I loved, as well: Minalan's wife, his apprentices and many others. The interactions between the Mage and his apprentices, is very loving, fatherly and funny. Pentandra- an old girlfriend from school, specializes in sex magic and he helped her study. ;) She becomes Min's "right hand man", especially in the political world as she comes from royalty and he comes as a bakers son. She is very light hearted, yet a great tactician.
They'll not only have the Gurvani to worry about but the political games, the likes of dukes and duchess's with aspirations to become king and queen, or secret societies with assassins: The Black Rat and Mother's.
With all of that power comes responsibility. Min pours much of that responsibility into a place of his own: Sevendor- a rundown castle and hamlet. He pours his power, money, love and affection into this place and its people and gains a home and loving community and much more for all that power is bound to change things.
I cannot say enough about this series. I really did love the characters, the storyline and how it just sort of sucks you into the story. It's well written and edited. I can't wait for the next book! This is a young adult(+) series. Once again I would implore the writer to brighten, dramatize and capture the essence of each book on the cover. That's how you gain a readers eye who hasn't read the author before. The covers are boring and not eye catching at all. The series deserves better and more people need the incentive and privilege to read it!

The green stones have elevated the level of what is possible with magic to a level that is hard to "buy into". This installment is his second great story, this one obfuscated by endless battle scenes. Book 2 offers an a tactical level tale of the battlefront. but the main story is still defeated by endless battle, silly possibilities from green stones and a tiresome attempt at forcing humor into the storyline. Some humor, if it fits the character and the story is appropriate. However, in this case it really feels forced and detracts from serious situations within the story. Narration was excellent

We listened to the first one and were hooked. We have been listening to them when we travel and it makes the drive so much quicker. You are so drawn into the story you don't notice the time. We have been even sitting on the deck and listen to the stories. I would recommend it for parents and their kids when traveling. They get to use their imagination to picture the events.

This is well written, enjoyable, and very engaging. The characters are intricately crafted. It is a pleasure to watch the plot unfold and it has some riveting fight scenes. I very much enjoyed the first book and this second book did not disappoint either.

While I do think the sexual aspects of the book are a bit crass and over done, besides that I can’t really think of anything bad. The audible version is fantastic and definitely an enjoyable listen. It makes my hour commute, each way, fly by!

Problems with typos and editing made me give this book 4 stars instead of higher. Many sentences that were half finished. Many typos or using the wrong word e.g. their/they're, either/neither, bread/bred. The editing problems spoiled some of my enjoyment. Other than that, a fun book to read and great continuation of the spellmonger story! I like the often cheeky narrative and the adventure.

A little confusing with flashbacks but you get the hang of It soon enough and live/re-live some epic(and funny) scenes. Well worth the time to read I love a good long book rather then 8 150-200 page chapters so all around good choice

Fantastic author. All the 4 and 5 star ratings are well deserved. The battle is epic, the scale is almost epic, and his ability to spin a tale, using both current storyline and flashback is excellent.

Best to start with Book 1, but cannot recommend highly enough.

Watch your back at all times. Trust no one. Expect change.
Once moral fiber will be challenged with this book. Bonobos all about power. The pet peasants are for self-preservation all people die just went is important.

Like many of the reviewers I found the first book slightly better. Too much attention was paid too details that really didn't matter, or haven't mattered so far at least. This caused the book to be a little too long. I would have scored this book at about 3.5 stars except the last quarter of the book really pulled me back into the series. Now, I will definitely purchase the next volume!

I'm enjoying the continuing adventures of an often reluctant hero; the ways he gets in & out of situations is always interesting! I've just purchased book three, Magelord, for my Kindle so I'm in for the duration!

funny, fun, entertaining...battles with the enemies, and the politico/beurocracy, romance, life lessons...would recommend to any sci-fi/fantasy reader, and truly even those who don't normally read this genre, would probably enjoy it, if they gave it a try.

I like the series. Interesting characters and story. Books do have some sentences that just end mid-sentence (printing error I assume) along with a few grammatical errors, but not enough to take away from a good read.

I really enjoyed this book. There are some oddities in how the author runs the timeline in the story, but you get used to it. He does a great job with character development and the plot line is engaging and enjoyable.
