206 Bones: A Novel (Temperance Brennan Book 12)

Kathy Reichs has lost the plot with this book. Her early works revealed details of forensics that made her books interesting and exciting, drawing the reader into a world largely hidden from public view. Perhaps the plethora of CSI type TV shows (and now Bones) has removed the voyeurism inherent in this kind of story and left Reichs with a thin story based on the characters that includes some side references to forensic details to justify the genre. The writing is dreadful - one liners, interminable questions (a poor literary prop), few attempts to set scenes and dialogue that is frankly unbelievable (does anyone talk like this?) and the reader is left with the impression that she is writing a television script rather than a novel. I guessed the outcome of the story within the first third of the book as it was so obvious, and only kept reading becuase there are so few words on each page that I could confirm my guesswork quickly. This is the last time I buy a book by Reichs - she has gone the same way as Patricia Cornwell - writing pot boilers of little consequence.

A really great story (of course). Filled with humor and fun and fascinating facts, Reichs always delivers a great story that addresses relevant issues of our times while giving us lessons in the sciences and history of the areas that her stories take place in.

As always, the reader DOES learn a lot about archaeology and forensics, but this books just fell strangely flat as really being entertaining and mysterious. Perhaps Reichs has spoiled us in the past, but this was just thrown together and not up to her past standards of storytelling and intrigue. Finished thinking - "Was that it?" Huh.

As usual Kathy was thorough, complete and entertaining. I have read the first 13 books now and am ready for the next episode of Tempe's life, loves and career.

A pity that the television show on her books are a turn off for a devotee.

Kathy Reichs educates with vivid descriptions of the anatomical selections in her writing. There is just enough forensic detail mixed with individual descriptions of the characters and the local...... I also love the way the transitions from one chapter to the next. Always thinking I nailed the conclusion....being wrong did not bother me.

Just when you think you know "who done it", something changes. You don't want to put the book down. I like the technical aspect of the books. Proper language and the explanation of what is being talked about. Not dumbed down. Really enjoyed it.

The beginning of the book was a little unsettling as you would expect the book to be, once past the first chapter it read more like the t.v. series which I enjoy. Anyone who watches the t.v. series will find this book a page turner and hard to put down. It is both funny and intelligent. It is a selection from my book club.

I am reading all the Kathy Reichs Temperance Brennan books in order, and this one was the most engaging since the first or second ones. I just wonder when all the head injuries are going to catch up with Tempe:)
