A light read evidently intended to help followers of Flavia pass the time until the recently published novel became available. The question is: has the author refocused his efforts to appeal to a younger audience?

I was disappointed by this super short, super simplistic, mini mystery. The cover and the write ups made it seem like a not-to-be-missed gem and it turned out to be a tossed off story without much there, there.

This is a children's book, told by a child with no further depth. The solution was easy to guess, the characters all stock, and the storyline and style not especially interesting. Oh, well: it was nearly free.

This is just a short story and falls far , far from what is expected from Bradley,s creation of Flavian de Luce. I should have realized , since it is identified as a kindle single. Hey, even in a short story, she should still be the wonderfully obnoxious little genius we all love.

This one doesn't deserve one star. It's too short, forced and contrived. There is no development of characters and too "all wrapped up" for us with too much explanation and too little action. A better short story would have dealt with repairing Gladys and a conversation with Dogger. This one is not worth the short time it takes to read it.

I feel like this short story was written for a third grader. There are a few complex words that would not be understood by the younger crowd, but all in all, i wasted my money. I enjoy mysteries, and this story DID NOT satisfy. If you like Kathy Reichs or exhilarating murder mysteries, this is not for you. I more than likely will not read any more works from this author.

I have been a fan of Flavia de Luce books and have read them all. This sort - short story was a surprise. It was not worth the dollar and a mistake on Alan Bradley's part to think of selling a few page story cheap and make some money. Bad decision, a discounting of a key character and an insult to his fans.....or should I say past fan.

Did I pass over the fact that this was a short story, or was I dazzled by the price? I came for dinner and got hors d'oeuvres. Clever solution for those who like figuring out solutions, but tedium for those of us who like the story and the people who populate it and want to visit their world for a while. Sigh.

This is really a short story (and a short, short story, at that). I read it in a Kindle, but I'd be surprised if it was 20 pages printed out. It's a fine story, but the focus is on the mystery, which, candidly, I don't think is Bradley's strong suit. He's created a phenomenal, funny protagonist with a troubled home life and a certain unwillingness to grow up. I enjoy Flavia's stories because I love to see her interact with her family, neighbors, and Inspector Hewitt and the rest of the police. These are well-drawn characters and the dynamic between them is great. Bradly is not as great at creating plausible mysteries.

Because this is such a short tale, it's almost entirely focused on solving the mystery. The plot is clever, but how Flavia solves it isn't really plausible. But there is a nice scene in which she hangs out with a bunch of school boys as part of her investigation.

I really have enjoyed reading the Flavia de Luce books. so refreshing, and very human. This little novella was great before bed reading when I just needed a little something to take the edge off the day. Can't wait to read the next installment.

Even though I knew it was a short story, I wasn't too thrilled because it lacked the excitement I was expecting. It was a straight threw story, no mystery it went from crime to ending with little in the middle to work up to the conclusion.

I liked the short story form featuring a beloved character. It was concise, fun and interesting. However it was clearly intended for someone familiar with the series, anyone else would have been lost.

Mr. Bradley has captured my imagination with Flavia de luce. this short story is a hoot and Flavia is so entertaining. it fits perfectly in the Flavia book series. it's a short read and if you have not read any of the books read this first then start at the beginning of the series, it's important to see the progressions of all the important little things that show in new books.
keep up the good work Mr. Bradley.

Well, Flavia is on her way to Canada. What will this do to her? Have we, like Flavia, been cut off from the carefully crafted world in England and the beloved (if sometimes aggravating) characters we have come to know? Is the Flavia deLuce series ever going to be as good as it was? Is this the spoiling of a great series?

No spoilers here; you're going have to read this excellent volume to find out. I will answer that last question for you. NO!

All these books are so interesting and fun. Each character begs you to discover their innermost thoughts and depths. I simply loved this series as an adult and hope more young girls read them and become a Flavia fan!
