My 5th grade students are lined up and waiting for each book. I bought 2 entire sets and I still can't keep them on the shelves. We have weekly book talks and the students "sell" these book every talk!

These are the first books my 4th grader has really enjoyed reading. She has come home talking about them again and again. I am now reading them and am enjoying them as well. We are racing to see who can finish them first.

Among the Hidden Review
This series, Among the Hidden, about a law that does not allow third children to be alive. The law dictates that the third child must be killed. Luke, a third child, left his family on a mission to help end this brutal law. Luke strongly felt and wanted to ensure the safety of present and future third children. Luke met people along the way in his travels and on his adventure. He created a group that included other third children. From the moment I picked up this book from page one, I was not able to put the book down. The book has many characteristics that would satisfy different reader likes. It is a natural thriller that makes the reader eager to turn the page, it is a drama in that it enables the reader to get lost into the story and get to know the main characters and get to know them personal. Each series carries the excitement and eagerness to turn the page to absorb more. The book contains suspense that will keep you on the edge of your seat. I would recommend this book to anyone into action and drama that doesn’t stop. Reading the book will have you thinking Luke Is your best friend. When he is in trouble you will be scared. When he is happy you will feel good. You end up growing a connection to this character that no other book will give. That is why I feel this book is great. Another reason why this book is good is because it’s realistic. The reader immerses oneself into the book and feels to be part of it. These are the books you can say, “Thankfully this is not happening to us.” As of now in China, there is a policy where you can’t have more than one child. It is called the “One Child Policy.” The author makes the readers appreciate the freedom we have.

My 12 year old son read the whole series through. He could not put the books down for a minute. These books even encouraged him to do some extra reading log for his class. Great series for teens. Great for WW2 addicts.

I bought these for my great-nephew. He read "Among the Hidden" in school and enjoyed it soo much that he wanted to read more books in
this series. He' s not that crazy about reading so I was more then happy to buy the complete series.
I hope he enjoys them as much as the first book.

"The Shadow Children" books were on a Christmas list. It was great to find a set of 6. I think there was a 7th book that wasn't included, but it may not have been out when the sets were put together. Prompt delivery.

I remember reading the Shadow Children series when I was in the 5th grade. Now I am about to finish my senior year of college and plan to buy the series. Of all the books I read throughout elementary school, the Shadow Children series was the most impact for three reasons: 1) It increased my love for reading, 2) It challenged me to think ethically about the world around me, and 3) It introduced me to the dystopian genre which has become my favorite.

It should say a lot that I am writing an review 10 years after having read the series and I am not even an elementary teacher, parent, or young adult fiction critic. I am just a huge fan.

I haven't actually read the series myself (though I will be!). I was having trouble getting my 4th grade daughter to read, so her teacher recommended this series, which she said she reads to her own children. I checked out the first book from the library, and my daughter wouldn't put it down. Soon I was scrambling to find the rest of the books. She started reading this series less than two months ago and has already finished all 7 books. Now I don't know what else to move on to which will capture her attention like this!

My daughter is not a low reader, but we were just having trouble finding books that interested her. I tried all kinds of popular series, and this is the first one since the "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" series that she has really liked. I have a younger son who is also reluctant to read, so I will probably end up buying the whole set to have around for when he's ready.

I think these would be good for middle school when kids can cognitively critique the political themes of theses books. My child was introduced to them on 4th grade. Although she loves them, I think the content is a bit disturbing for elementary school kids.

It does not make sense that the Kindle version of the series is almost $20 more than the paperbacks. ($30.40 vs $48.99)
My family reads; all the time. We have 5 Kindle devices and an iPad and computers with the Kindle reader software. We prefer to purchase Kindle versions of the books that we buy. I hope this is not the beginning of a trend. One of the selling points of the Kindle products has been that you can sometimes get the electronic books cheaper than the printed copies.
