I loved the Gabriel's Inferno series. Slyvain Reynard is a wonderful writer and story teller. So I had expected her latest two books to be as good. I'm not a fan of Vampires, etc., Very disappointed. I miss Gabriel's story and the characters. Mikki

Mr. Reynard is certainly a gifted writer. His knowledge of his subject matter and writing flow is to be admired. I enjoyed The Gabriel series.
However, I will not be enjoying The Raven series starting with this prequel. I am not a particular fan of the paranormal, and only read this because I would get to revisit The Emersons. I am just bothered that the series I have come to love was a sham. I say this because the author has chosen to flip the script, and The Emersons are now part of a supernatural realm. I am bothered that it appears this prince fellow is going to be pursuing The Emersons through the Raven series bent on their death and destruction, the author just couldn't let them be at end end of book 3 with their HEA. I choose to leave them at that; and not pursue this any longer. Thanks S R.

Not great, but not terrible either. It was interesting enough that I'm definitely . . . maybe planning on reading The Raven when it comes out next week.

My biggest concerns are:

1. A surplus of unnecessary parenthetical statements (it was obnoxious and distracting--oh, the iiiiiironyyyyyy), and
2. The ridiculously unbelievable fight scene in which whom I'm assuming is to be the Object of Our Desire in the full-length novel bests two other vampires (<-----also an assumption) . . . by fighting them . . . simultaneously . . . with a sword in each hand, and then beheading them . . . also simultaneously.

I like the story, however there were many holes. I've started the new book Raven I am hoping it will answer a few questions like, who was the Prince's mentor. Who really stole the art the first time. And with that in mind why is the Prince holding the Emerson's solely responsible for thief. Wish this was on audible.

Well, I expected something totally different than Vampires. Really? The story could have been made to stand alone and not bring in Julianne and Gabriel. Why involve the couple from the previous books? Their Trilogy was more than enough. Now we have "The Prince" after them when their storyline was tied up nice and neat. I am hoping that the publishing house did not ask for this type of genre from Sylvain because there are others who do it much more justice. The author could have just started a whole new series without bringing in Vampires and the like to a previous storyline because that is what it seems like. I purchased the full novel that came after the novella and have not read it. Normally, I am an avid reader of a series when I finish one book and cannot wait for the next one to come out to follow the storylines and keep in contact, it seems, with previous characters. This time, not really. For some reason, I cannot make a connection with these characters even though they seem to be tied into a previous work. I am a big fan of the paranormal genre and look forward to certain authors, with good writing and storytelling skills, so I will have to see what I think of Sylvain's attempt when I read the full novel.

The story took an unexpected turn from the original plot from Gabriel's Inferno. It was a good story and can't wait to read the rest but Professor Emerson fans be advised that it is completely different from the story we are used to.

Blah. If vampires float your boat then by all means go for it. Loved the Gabriel series and so many ways to expand storyline without heading down the Twilight path. I am not a teen who needs random gore and "battles" to keep my interest but instead enjoy having my mind as well as senses engaged.

Let me add to this after many others seem to think that the 1 star review is for the genre....I too read the synopsis and fully understood that the author was starting a new storyline along the paranormal. From this writer I just did not expect such a banal treatment of subject matter.

I love Sylvain Reynard, I think the authors books are incredible. I have read the Gabriels Inferno trilogy so many times I can't count. When I read the author was writing more books, such as this one, I was super excited. Especially when it was noted the Emerson's would be appearing.
I rated this at a 4, because it's a novella (and thrusting us into another genre). I knew from Gabriels Redemption exactly who the character of this novella would be. I was glad that the author didn't throw the Emerson's into this book with them knowing about a supernatural underworld of Florence. I would be utterly disappointed if Gabriel and Julianne's story went in that direction.
Aside from this...it was hard reading a novella which was such a change from the original books. A lot was happening with the supernatural aspect, and as much as I hate to say it, it didn't hold my attention. My attention was only held when the Emerson's were brought up. The prince remarks on the scent if Julia's blood, noting the iron deficiency (which the reader was informed of in book #3), but then he goes in implying that she's very sick (?)...yes, we know she has the fibroids, but successfully delivers baby Clare, so as a reader I'm confused and worried about Julianne getting sick. This book also mentions a scene (never in book 3) where Julianne experiences pain during sex with Gabriel once while in Florence. They go on to have a ton of sexy times in book 3, all without an issue. So why is this random scene in The Prince? Why is the Prince saying how she's so sick?
I'm assuming since the Prince makes note of him not bring able to deal with the Emerson's for 2 years, we will be seeing them in the start of The Raven. Given the timeline, baby Clare should be around 1 year old if the Prince plot continues.
I rated this a 3, which pains me! It's due to the confusion at the novella. I know it's SR and he'll put out another amazing book line with The Raven, but this novella just didn't do it for me.

I was disappointed with this one. I did not realize that it was based on supernatural characters which I am not a big fan of. But do love the Gabriel series so I will keep with it. Kind of a learn to like thing. All in all it was a good story.

Absolutely loved the previous series and was so looking forward to more of the loving couple. I do not like this genre at all and was very disappointed! In my mind I will write an ending to the original series!

Very disappointing as I was somewhat expecting some form of continuity to the previous books from the series. It felt like this book was plucked out a completely different series and a different genre. Kept waiting for the book to start and then it was over.
