The Unofficial Harry Potter Spellbook - The Wand Chooses the Wizard

I've known the author for many years. His interest and knowledge on the subject of Harry Potter really comes through to the reader. His hexes, charms and spells are quick and fun to read. I thoroughly enjoyed this book.

Awful, just awful. The so called "spells" in here are just definitions, one per page with no illustrations at all in the entire book. My child wanted to pretend to be at Hogwarts learning "spells" with her new wand and be shown by illustration or at least told the steps on how to perform the "spells" not just have the definition to them. No imagination in this at all. The book is cheap feeling, paper pages are thin. I'm sure a lot of kids (and parents) will be disappointed in this book. No imagination, just something threw together to make a buck. Pitiful.

Awesome: I've already tried out the Patronus, several times, & it helps keep bad thoughts firmly locked OUT OF MY HEAD!!

Going to have to see about some of these other spells, & another that usually has helped me, when I'm trying to unlock doors is Alohamora!!

(Just so there's no mistake, I am a FIRM believer in the spiritual/paranormal/occult/mystical/magic(k)al, always have been, always will be, probably in previous lifetimes as well, & DEFINITELY in future lifetimes as well)!!

Definitely disappointed. I knew it wasn't worth $20 when I bought it but my daughter really wants it for Christmas and I haven't seen any other book with the Harry Potter spells, so I bought this. I wouldn't have been nearly as disappointed had this actually been in color like in the pictures on the store "look inside" feature!!! The text and everything inside is actually BLACK AND WHITE. There are a few random pictures and they look very cheap. Like poorly printed out or copy machine copied pictures. I thought I knew what I was getting even with the varied reviews, but didn't know it would be quite this cheap. The black and white just REALLY bugged me! I think my daughter will like it but I hate that I paid $20. Makes me even more annoyed with the kid that "wrote" the book.

I have a MAJOR problem with this book.. Despite the advertising, none of the spells work too well in actuality. The levitation spell managed to lift a feather off of my desk, but that could be from the wind I was making by waving my wand.
I realize that the real spells may be dangerous for children, but can't this book be sold to adults only?
Somewhat disappointed..

This is more pamphlet than book. At 114 double sided pages, you're talking 58 pages thick. The major flaw with this book is that no wand movements are included. Anyone who has read the books knows that spells require specific wand movements. You can't just say a spell and have magic happen. It doesn't take a super-fan to know that.

Furthermore, for a spell book, a number of spells don't even include the incantation. For instance; "Bubble Head Charm" and "Throw Snowballs". Those aren't incantations, those are descriptions of the spell. I don't remember the Weasley brothers shouting, "Throw Snowballs!" before their barrage of snowballs assaulted Gryffindor tower.

This book was created by a 15 year old who cherry picked spells (not all of them) from the books and movies and typed them out. Now, because he slapped "Unofficial" on the cover, he's hoping to turn a profit off of someone else's intellectual property.

There are so many Harry Potter books out there (both official and unofficial) that are far better composed, thought out and executed than this garbage.

"Since the first book's publication back in 1997, the universe of Hogwarts and Nazguls has since taken the world by storm, " That sentence is from the book description. Ummmm, excuse me, Nazguls are part of the Lord of the Rings. Someone please get that sentence removed....or something.
