Here I am, reading along and thinking to myself, dang, this town sounds like Nederland! As a Colorado girl, all the details were exactly right. The people described are just like the folks around here. The book sucks you in holds you captive. I highly recomend this book.

Barely Breathing is definitely worth reading. Pamela Clare has once again shown us how talented she is with the first book in her new Colorado High County Series. I look forward to coming back to Scarlet Springs and continuing the journey with the residents.

I loved the characters! I envision the beauty of the Colorado mountains and small communities surrounding them. I love when there are recurring characters . I especially loved when Lexi dropped the key. That was awesome!

Lovers since high school, then separated by ambition. When Lexi returns home to help her dad run their inn, she knows the first person she will probably see is Austin Taylor. Lovers again the second time around. A fire and rescue romance.

Pamela Clare is one of my very favorite writers. She's a genius at creating characters and story that touch you and engross you. This is book#1 of a new series. I adore her I-Team series, which is romantic suspense, and I adore her historical Scottish brothers. :D There's a bit of suspense/danger in this book, but the focus is more on the romance. And I still loved it. The hero participates in Search and Rescue and is an expert rock climber. That side part--the rock climbing--was interesting and really engaged me. I loved the way the heroine found her true self and what made her happy. In addition to the hot romance, the danger/suspense and the great characters, there is a world of fabulous humor in the story. Should be a perfect mix for a romance reader. I'll be reading book #2 the day it releases. Rock on, Pamela Clare!

Pamela has done it again. Just after she tells us the I-Team series is finished, she brings us a the first of a new series. Her ability to bring a story to life with great characters, beautiful descriptions of the Colorado landscape, and interesting relationships is simply amazing. I don't want to until she releases the next one.

Wow, what an awesome story. So vividly written, I felt as though I was in Knocker's, and the forest. A tragedy with a feel good ending.
On the verge of tears a couple of times, to smiling at the witty banter.
Can't wait for the next book in the series...

Loved this book! Beautiful love story! Pamela Clare can do no wrong in my opinion - she is one of my favorite authors! I hope she continues writing in this series because I love all of the characters, and would love for them all to find love like Lexi and Austin!!!

Pamela Clare has another hit on her hands.

Barely Breathing has just the right mix of everything: humor, sex and suspense. The back story is very believable, as are the problems currently faced by the well thought out characters. Scarlet Springs could very well be a real place as the setting comes alive with Ms Clare's attention to detail.
Can't wait for the next installment.

This book no doubt had potential. However, what makes a good writer a great one is the ability to show without telling. There was way too much "telling" in my opinion. The main hero was less fleshed out than one of the secondary characters ( I.e. Eric Hawke). Given that this is the first book in the trilogy I'd like to see if the author's style improves in the next installment.
Overall, good but could be better.

I should have looked before I read the first book. I have a rule that I don’t pay more than $2:99 for a book. There are just too many books out there to pay more when the books are in a series you want to read. Too bad though as I would have wanted to find out what happened with this team. Both Lexi and Vic. Bummer.

Lexie Jewel returns home to Scarlet, Colorado when her father's marriage falls apart and her own career unravels. She left twelve years ago with no intention of ever going back, especially after the heartbreaking end of her relationship with Austin Taylor, now a park ranger and member of the Rocky Mountain Search & Rescue Team. Both blame the other but neither really wanted it to end.

At first I didn't think this story was going to be all that interesting given the set up (communication misunderstandings that take forever to resolve). Well, shame on me for not remembering this author's stellar writing chops. She wastes no time moving the story along and having Lexie and Austin behave like adults. And, these two turn the heat up beyond any temperature reading you can register. Loved how their relationship developed and these were two very likable, admirable characters.

I also enjoyed learning about the intricacies of mountain climbing, both in the contexts of search & rescue and professional climbing. I've a whole new respect for the engineering and athleticism.

There's just a smidgen of a suspense element that occurs at the right time in the story and bolsters the other aspects. The sense of community within the town and the team resonates strongly, which I found highly appealing. Everything about this story worked for me and I'm excited about the prospects of future books in the series.

(I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review)

When Pamela Clare announced she was writing a new contemporary romance series set in a small Colorado town and focusing on rescue workers in the mountains, I was thrilled. I don't always love contemporary romance, but I figured the odds of Pamela Clare getting it right were pretty good.

I was right to trust. The rescue and climbing elements were well researched and integrated organically which made the story come to life on a level beyond the romance. The setting is engaging and makes me want to visit the town (crucial for me to like a small town romance series). The romance itself is well rendered and sexy as hell.

Austin and Lexie were high school sweethearts until one fateful night when she tripped his abandonment issue trigger and they ended in a horrible breakup not long before she left for college and never came back. They haven't really been around each other for twelve years. She always wanted to leave their small town, but he always planned to stay. She's back because her dad needs her, but she doesn't plan to hang around more than a few weeks. He's part of the Mountain Rescue Team and he's a total hotshot climber while she's a CPA currently living in Chicago (and loving it) and planning her next move after leaving her job. Even with that obstacle and their past in place, their chemistry pops immediately and their relationship progresses believably. Their sexy times are fun and hot and they are very well suited in many ways.

This is the first in a series so many new characters and settings are introduced. PC does a good job of bringing them into the story in a way that doesn't overwhelm but intrigues. One place that gets some attention is a wildlife rescue center and I hope that continues to play a role. Mainly because I love wildlife and the work such centers do. But also ... a tiny fawn! Bobcat kittens! A pet wolf! Come on!

This is an independently published book and while there were a couple of minor typos, it's more polished than most pro-published books I've seen in a while. The price is right at $4.99 and the story and series launch is well worth more.

I can't wait to read more about this setting and these characters. Highly recommended.

Barely Breathing is my first book by Pamela Clare and, whilst enjoyable enough I have to admit I'm a little on the fence over it.

"...he’d been her first serious boyfriend, her first lover, her first heartbreak."

This could well be a case of it's not you it's me, I've had an outstanding couple of weeks with my reads, but this just seemed a little steady going. There's no denying that Austin and Lexi burn the sheets; they're very sexy together and I did like them, as I did the setting and the secondary characters, I just think too much page space was devoted to introducing many of them and the intricacies of rock climbing, which is likely paving the way for more in the series.

"The people we care most about are the ones with the power to hurt us."

That said, the story did gather pace later on and had this been the case much earlier then I'd have likely rated higher, because that to me was more of a reflection the authors writing-style. Barely Breathing didn't blow me away, but I certainly wouldn't discourage others from reading.
