Bet Me by Lila Monroe is a standalone romance that will have you laughing out loud and feeling the "pain" of the main character, Lizzie. This plot is new to me and I enjoyed the originality. I already expected the steam and heat as it is a Lila Monroe book after all, but the hilarity of the entire situation and each character's behavior and reactions were priceless. Jake is to die for. The one temptation that may break Lizzie!

Well-paced and well-written, Lila Monroe is a MUST-READ author for me and this was no exception. Enjoy!

Lila Monroe's charming book, Bet Me was a winner! Although it was not a long book, Lila kept the number of characters and situations manageable. I frequently found myself smiling or laughing. Laughter is always good for me. I recommend this book and I purchased it.

Poor Lizzie Ryan is not having any luck finding a guy worth dating even twice. She meets once a week with her two married girlfriends, Tatiana and Della. They share wine and pretend to knit while gossiping and trying to help Lizzie with her lack of decent male companions. She is convinced that romance left sometime last century . He latest 'date' invited her over for beer, pizza and to watch a ball game. Not Lizzie idea of romance. She was so upset that she wrote a diatribe to her sister, only she hit the wrong button and instead of sending it to her, it went out to the world! She becomes famous/infamous. There are news stories and even talk shows about her rant. She keeps getting cheered on by women saying that they have joined her 'strike'.

Meanwhile her job at the Metropolitan Museum of Art is going well, with her latest promotion to head up a favorite topic romance and the older Hollywood movies and memorabilia. She is going to get to work with Jake Weston who has a reputation of being able to obtain the unobtainable. She is expecting an older gentleman with a paunch and balding. Instead, In strides Jake, a tall handsome athletic drool-worthy specimen of men. At this point Lizzie does not trust any men. When she finds out that the husband of one of her best friends has placed a $50,000 bounty on her. She really gets upset. Tatiana has joined Lizzie on strike, while Zach, Della's husband has decided to strike against Della! And, the huge met show is coming closer day by day and they do not have everything they need to make it a fantastic show. Lizzie is determined it will be a success.

The story has lots of funny lines and misunderstandings. We do get our HEA at the end and a really nice one it is. Go get your copy of this happy book! Thank you Lila Monroe!

Lila showed men and women at their highest and lowest points. Yes, both genders can and will excel and falter in showing their love, romantic side, and take for granted their lover, boyfriend, girlfriend, husband, or wife. Whatever label you are using, the end result should be the same. Want to keep a good man or woman? Then, kiss them. Not because you want sex but because you want them to feel loved and appreciated. Don’t allow your significant other do all the cooking, cleaning, chores, and so forth. PUT IN AN EFFORT! Oh and I firmly believe you should do small things every chance you get and not wait until Valentine’s Day.

Lila Monroe made sure readers understood that to keep your sweetums happy, don’t let the romance die because if you do your sex life (relationship) will feel the strain.

Men, you know stroking it gets old. Fake holes aren’t the same as the real deal.

Women, self pleasure isn’t always so fulfilling at the end of the day.

So heed Lila’s words and go give your man or woman some attention. Not because you want sex — expect it. No, give them it because you’re honored and amazed they chose you as their partner.

My headline may sound harsh, but I stuck with this book through 18 chapters and it was the same thing over and over. I am old fashioned and believe that true romance involves waiting for meaningful sex with the ONE you love. There was so much smut talk in this book that I couldn’t respect either the hero or the heroine. It was a total disappointment.

For every four Lizzy POVs, Jake gets one. Your in your out. Blah blah blah. Way too much woman in this one for my taste. What began as a well earned rant message to Lizzies sister somehow drunkenly ended up on YouTube. I thought it comical with head in lap asleep, GIGO Tinder BF, visiting her ex at his new digs with Jake, what a bitch for stating her BF Della takes her man for granted. Don't we all and don't they? It all evens out in the end; one way or another. Who is she to say? "Friends can’t live with them, can’t shoot them." (quote) My bad I understand it completely.

I get the mental image of Simon from the Mentalist as Jake. Not so what I wanted to envision.

Lila Monroe brings us another spectacular story that will have you laughing out loud, swooning from all the sexual tension, and falling in love with love.

Lizzie has been unlucky in love and now believes romance is dead. Where are all the good guys? The ones that want to get to know you not just try to get into your pants. After a disastrous date, she makes a video for her sister but instead of send it to her she accidentally uploads it the internet. The video goes viral and her life takes a turn she never saw coming.

Jake is a man that knows how to please a woman, after all, he hasn't had any complaints. He's tall, dark, handsome, rouged, and completely available. But there is more to him that just his looks, he's smart, caring, loyal, and charming.

His job is to find things that hard to find and his next job bring him to the Met and a woman that tempts him like no other, but she's not a yes woman. She's a hard working, never settle for second best, smart, and sassy woman. She also believe in romance and love, something he doesn't think exist. But little does he know, he's got a past with her and she's about to turn his world upside down.

So can a man that doesn't believe in true love and a woman that want romance ever get together for long haul? Or are there just too many obstacles standing in their path?

I admit to being completely in love with Lila's style of writing, and Bet Me is another marvelously entertaining book. It's sweet, funny, heartwarming, and flirty book that will keep you engaged until the end. The chemistry between Lizzie and Jake is off the charts, I had to stop have a cool down a few times throughout the book. And I absolutely adore Jake's grandfather, what a charmer that man is. I loved all the classic Hollywood movie references, they just don't make movies like that anymore.

So if you are looking for a flirty, funny, charming, witty, and seductive read, then I suggest you pick up Bet Me today. I promise you that you'll enjoy it because Lila Monroe always aims to please.

Not totally a realistic storyline with the viral video, but the characters are real. I felt both characters feelings. The happy, sad and sexy ones. Lizzie is relatable. Its nice not to have the same drawn up boring self loathing "I'm not pretty", but is actually gorgeous character that seem to make appearances in romance novels now a days. There are a few editing mistakes, but nothing horrible.

This was such a great read .Lizzie starts out venting to her sister about the loss of romance but accidentally puts it on the internet. Jake comes into help her get ready for the big movie exhibition. He is a gorgeous playboy covering up a true romantic. As Lizzie and Jake work they become closer and hotter.

I had skipped this when it first came out because of the negative reviews.
But it turned out to be a good read. Sure the h acts like a horny hormonal teenager but it's not to the point of complete annoyance.
I would love to know if Miles has a book. Or Della.

Okay, so after finishing Fake Fiancee and it was not a Goodread for me, I hope that this RomCom would redeem me. However I was wrong. Reading the summary, it sounded hilarious, but once I dove into it, I was very unsatisfied, kind of like a bad date.

I was unable to find the humor in anything. Lizzie is a 30 year old woman living in New York and she just can’t seem to catch a break when it came to mean and romance. Her fiance Todd, had left her after she helped him get through law school. He basically jumped from her bed into another woman’s a week prior to Christmas. So New Year’s Eve she gets a little tipsy and meets a gentleman, Jacob. They sneak into Todd’s apartment and decide to do a little low key vandalism.

They go back to Jacob’s house and things start to get a little hot and heavy, until Jacob passes out face first in Lizzie’s vajay, right in the middle of oral.

Well fast forward three year’s and Lizzie is working at The Met, she is forced to work with Jake Weston, lo and below…THE Jacob from three years prior.

After going on date after date of guys who want to drink beer and get in her pants, she goes on a video rant, supposedly to her sister, only it has gone viral on YouTube. A rant that states she isn’t going to be having any sex until men shape up and learn some romance.

Well, Dapper, a men’s magazine has basically put out a bounty on Lizzie’s vow of celibacy. Every man in the city seems to go crazy over this and tries to win the money. The only one actually capable of winning is none other than Jake Weston.

But he wouldn’t do that just for the money, would he?

Ugh, this book. I feel like the author was trying so hard to channel Carrie Bradshaw just a little too much. The age of Lizzie seems a little off. I am nearing the big 3-0 and I don’t feel like I act as immature as Lizzie and her friends. And I can’t say much about the men these days with romance because I haven’t been on a first day in ten years.

I was bored. I didn’t see the humor, I didn’t laugh. It was just bland to me. Even Jake was not a romantic guy, or at least I didn’t think so.

I don’t know, maybe your thoughts will be different on this read as well.

I couldn't finish this book. It was hard reading about people who are so detached from human decency. The book is about a 30ish old woman who can't control her libido but decides she won't have sex with men until they give her romance. The men, in this book are cliche Man Whores. All they do is play games just to get laid but insist they are honest with the many women they sleep with by suggesting they "know the score." So, this woman goes on "strike." The supossed male lead figures she'll give up real soon. He's more upset that more and more women are going on "strike" too. Is this really going on in real life? Have we stooped so low that one-night stands are the norm for everyone? I find it gross. I just could not read it anymore. I'm no prude, believe me. But I find this 'love' story very disturbing.

This story fell apart around the 70% point. Up till then, I was enjoying the story. It is light hearted, with some amusing moments. I liked that the characters were in their late twenties to mid thirties and the author did a good job portraying people in that age range. I also liked that even though the "H" had money, the story didn't revolve around how wealthy he actually was(not another billionaire Cinderella theme). So what happened you are wondering? Besides a few editing errors, for one example; the "h" is said to have hailed a cab to the airport and in the following paragraph is riding with the other main character in a convertible to the airport.
SPOILER ALERT AHEAD!
Where the story really goes off the rails happens when Lizzie confronts the character who is responsible for the bounty and he realizes the potential legal ramifications as well as other reasons and agrees to remove the bounty. Immediately. Then until the end of the story, the characters, especially Lizzie, continues on acting as if the big confrontation and subsequent removal of the bounty never happened.
Basically the last 30% of book doesn't make sense. I'm so glad I have kindle unlimited or I'd be more peeved. Can't get my time back though. I kept reading thinking surely this would get corrected by a character as part of the story, but it never did.

Overall Opinion: This was a pretty light, funny, and sexy read. I liked it more than I thought I would, but it won't go on my favorites shelf or probably be all that memorable in the long run. It doesn't get all that deep into the characters, and we don't get any time with them as an actual couple (except for the epilogue which was brief). Otherwise, it was enjoyable and would be a good one for in between some heavier reads.

**See Goodreads.com/NMmomof4 for my full review with spoilers**

Brief Summary of the Storyline: This is Lizzie and Jake's story. The story starts when they meet again at work when they are assigned to procure items for a new exhibit at the museum that Lizzie works for. They had actually met before, and there are leftover sparks flying from that interaction. One night, Lizzie accidentally sends out a drunken rant about taking a strike on sex until she is treated well by the men she dates and it goes viral. Eventually a men's magazine puts a bounty to end her strike and things get a little crazy. In the meantime Jake and Lizzie heat things up, but Lizzie is hesitant because she is unsure of his motives. There are some funny dramatics, some sexy times, and some miscommunications...but they do get a HFN ending.

POV: This alternated between Lizzie (mainly) and Jake's POV (personally, I would've liked more from Jake's POV).

Overall Pace of Story: Good until the end. The end felt a little abrupt to me, but it flowed well and I never skimmed otherwise.

Instalove: No, they take a while to develop stronger feelings.

H rating: 3.5 stars. Jake. I liked him, but I wish he was a little more upfront with Lizzie about his intentions.

h rating: 4 stars. Lizzie. I liked her. She was funny, sassy, and took her mistake pretty well -- all things considered.

Sadness level: Low, no tissues needed

Push/Pull: Yes

Heat level: Moderate. They have some moderate tension, chemistry and scenes, but not so much it takes away from the story.

Descriptive sex: Yes

Safe sex: Yes

OW/OM drama: Mild

Sex scene with OW or OM: No

Cheating: No

Separation: No

Closure: This had ok closure with what I would call a HFN ending. I would've liked more time with them as an actual couple and maybe a (farther) jump ahead epilogue with some more concrete commitments for the couple.

How I got it: It was part of my kindle unlimited subscription.

One of my favorite genres to read is Romantic Comedies, as I always find myself chuckling away and feeling refreshed after a good laugh not to mention a good book. Bet Me started off with Lizzie having a bad date after bad date and finding her Tinder guys just aren't clicking. What she wants is that old classic romance like Rhett Butler in Gone with the Wind, movie stars like Clark Gable and Cary Grant. After another bad date, Lizzie records a message she believes is for her sister - a rant about how she is going on a Sex Strike and about how real romance doesn't exist anymore. What Lizzie doesn't realize is that she accidentally uploaded the video to the web and now her drunken rant has hit viral status. Now everyone wants to get a piece of Lizzie. If that wasn't bad enough, she has to work with Jake Weston - a modern-day Indiana Jones - Treasure Hunter as they scour for unique pieces for her Hollywood through the ages display at the museum she works for. One thing leads to another and Lizzie starts to fall for Jake and vice versa, and he may very well be the one to break her dry spell. What will happen though when one of Jake's friends puts out a bet to the world in the male magazine he owns? When Lizzie finds out, she will have to make the decision about Jake and wonder if he does love her or is he just in it to win the money as there is a $50K bounty on breaking her sex strike? Bet Me by Lila Monroe had a lot of my favourite things in this book from having a Fool's Gold - the movie starring Kate Hudson and Matthew McCounaghey feel to Museum curators and ones who are like the Librarians crossed with Indiana Jones to Hollywood films throughout the ages as Lizzie and Jake work on the display throughout Bet Me.

This is a fun, exciting, hot and steamy adventure! Lizzie is still reeling from the breakup of her longtime boyfriend a couple years ago. She has been trying to move on, but is tired of how little effort men put into dating. After one too many horrendous dates, she accidentally posts a video rant to her sister on line. She has vowed to never have sex until a man puts effort into romancing her and sweeps her off her feet. She has been infatuated with the glamour and romance of classic Hollywood since she was young. Lizzie now has the opportunity to combine her passions and create a classic Hollywood exhibit at the museum where she works. Her boss brings in Jake to help find some key acquisitions for the show. Jake is cocky, condescending, and drop-dead handsome. He may look like he stepped off a 1952 movie set but he doesn't believe in romance. He does believe in basic human decency, honesty and no games. They clash much of the time, and are always trying to have the upper hand. Their banter is witty and it only serves to increase their chemistry and sexual tension. But Lizzies strike has gone national, and not only has she become a hero and inspiration to women, but seen also as a conquest to many men. Lizzie can't trust the intentions of any of the men who are trying to woo her. As Lizzie and Jake get closer, they find they may just have more in common than they thought. Will Lizzie be able to trust Jake, and their irresistible sexual attraction? Or is she a conquest to him as well? This was such a fun and heartfelt story. I really liked Lizzie and Jake was so charming and thoughtful. They challenged each other and had great chemistry. There are so many hilarious interactions between Lizzie and her dates and also with Jake, but there were many emotional scenes as well. This story had it all, it was fast paced, likeable characters, witty banter, funny, heartwarming, and hot and sexy. I was engaged from start to finish and enjoyed every word!

Well the first thing I have to say is, Holy Crap! I loved this story. Every single word drew me in and as with any book of Lila's, there is never enough. I want more of these two!

Lizzie is the kind of girl that believes in the happily ever after like you see in the movies. It's a passion, no, that's not giving her enough credit, it's a way of life. A way to stay on a path that leads her to her .

Jake is the hot, over confident man that doesn't believe in true love. However, he is the man that with a grin and his charm is able to get anything he wants. He has the drive to make it all happen.

You put the two of them together working on a project for The Met, add in a sex strike for Lizzie and all bets are off... or on depending on who you talk to. Lizzie never expected a drunken ramble about a sex strike to turn her world upside down. But that's what happened. All the while she had a man who was slowly pulling her towards him... the only thing for Lizzie was.... is it real?

Jake and Lizzie are two individual people that both have their own life plans. What they don't expect is that the whole "opposites attract" thing. Does true love exist? Can you truly have a happily ever after?

I'm the end, the only thing that matters is what their hearts tell them. It's a bumpy ride and one most people may travel, maybe not in the same manner that they do, but it's there nonetheless.

I really do with there was more to this story. It's a total winner on so many levels!

This was such a light and funny yet highly enjoyable story. In it I was introduced to Lizzie and Jake. These two meet one night in the midst of heartbreak, but their reactions are polar opposites.

Fast forward a bit and they are brought together again for work purposes, but while the spark they had from the beginning is still there, they are both determined to fight it.

Jake doesn't believe in love or romance, and Lizzie is tired of settling for anything less. When Lizzie posts a video swearing off sex until men step up and begin bringing more to the table regarding relationships, it sets off a hilarious and entertaining chain of events.

Over the course of the story, they have to deal with overzealous suitors, illness, misunderstandings and their own desire for each other.

I really liked Lizzie. She was a good woman who was hurt by a man she loved and then went through many bad dates afterwards which led to her video post. I absolutely understood her frustration after everything she went through. I found myself rooting for her the whole time in hopes she would find her happy ending.

Jake was one of those guys that I slowly fell for. I think if maybe I had gotten more of his history and what lead to his pessimism towards love, I would have fallen for him faster. But in the end I loved his gentle and caring side. I loved the heart I saw.

Overall I took pleasure in reading this story and would recommend it to anyone looking for a nice and steamy romantic comedy to get wrapped up in.

This book is AMAZING!!!

Lizzie is tired of what dating has turned into, so until she gets the romance she's looking for, she's going on strike. But in her haste to send her video rant to her sister one night, Lizzie inadvertently uploads it and it goes viral. And that's just the beginning of her problems...

This is the third Lila Monroe novel I've read and I haven't been disappointed yet! And I don't expect to be either!

Her books are hilarious, yet so full of love and heartwarming moments, wicked sex appeal and swoony gestures, and fantastic characters that you wish you could bring to real life.

Lizzie is one of a kind. Her good intentions never really seem to pan out they way she intends, but like a trooper, she rolls with the punches, no matter how awkward and embarrassing they might be. She might appear to be a mature, put-together adult, but she's all jumbled up like the rest of us, and that makes you fall in love with her even more.

And our leading man in this story? Jake Weston? Can you say hubba-hubba? He has to be one of my favorite book boyfriends of all time! He has this persona as a player, a playboy, and a commitment-phobe, and based on his past experiences, he has every right to be. But despite that fact, you can't resist him, no matter how hard you try. He's sinfully sexy with a dirty mouth, just the right amount of cocky attitude, and charming wit that you'll adore. Oh, he's not totally perfect, but that just adds to his appeal.

ONE-CLICK THIS BOOK! It cannot be passed up!

Such an enjoyable read. I LOVED this book, the well written storyline and the amazingly well developed, witty, sometimes stubborn characters. Such an entertaining, giggle worthy story that will have you smiling, frowning, gasping, and shaking your head at the situations that Lillie find herself in when her online rant goes viral! Overnight she becomes an unlikely hero to women all over the world, and all because she wants someone to date her, really date her, like it was done way back when. When men called on you to take you out to diner, brought you flowers just because they wanted to, to bring back the romance into a relationship, not just go out to some sports bar and expect to jump in the sack when the night was over. In other words, she wanted what pretty much all of us want. It is one disastrous date after another, until the ante is upped by an online magazine. Let The Fun Begin.

Then there is Jack, the one she met a couple of years ago, one New Year's Eve night after her boyfriend dumped her a couple of weeks prior. They set out on a mission of revenge and end up beginning what should be a night of passion, until the unthinkable happens.....zzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

You will thoroughly enjoy this wonderful romantic comedy and I highly recommend this book to everyone...and I mean everyone! It's a 10 star hit!

Warning! This book is NOT for readers looking for a "clean" story. The characters all use the F-word frequently and the sex is quite graphic. That said if you're okay with "unclean," as I am, the story is a lot of fun.

Lizzie Ryan is an assistant curator at NYC's Met. She has an idea for an exhibit about the "glory days" of Hollywood. Three years ago, her longtime boyfriend, who she put through an advanced degree by working two jobs, broke up with her saying she was "not ambitious enough." Since then, Lizzie landed her curator's job and has been on lots of loser dates. She drunkenly video-emails her sister declaring to be "on strike" from sex until she can find a decent man. Unfortunately, since alcohol was involved, she accidentally posts it to public media. She instantly becomes a media star.

Jake Weston is a "finder," meaning that he locates items that people want for a price. The Met has hired him to help Lizzie obtain the items she needs for her Hollywood exhibit. Trouble is that Jake was one of Lizzie's "loser" dates (okay, they hooked up at a New Year's Eve party) and he doesn't even remember falling asleep during sex. Lizzie is understandably annoyed at having to work with him.

Of course, they are terribly attracted to each other and both try hard to deny the attraction. That puts them in some funny and awkward situations before they realize they love each other and find their HEA.
