My nurse practitioner asked me to read "What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Premenopause" so I came to the store to look for it and read the reviews. While reading the reviews, I found this book and read the reviews here. I decided I would read the Dr. Lee book and this one to begin with. I believe the books balance each other nicely. For some reason I trust this book more. I have gotten the short end of the stick from the medical community, but I still wouldn't go into a store, buy hormone cream of any kind and start rubbing it into my skin because a book told me to do it. I have finally found a doctor willing to listen and I am using this book to help me be sure I am educated about the topic he and I are discussing when I visit. These books will tell you far more than your doctor can during a regular visit. My previous doctor, a DO, put me on Zoloft and Welbutrin, told me she wouldn't be able to let me stop the medication and told me I would just have to get used to it due to my age (I'm 39, but 37 when she prescribed the meds). It is infuriating that this kind of stuff goes on, so read up on the topic and ask everyone all over town until you find a doctor or nurse practitioner specializing in women's health and hormones.

Hormones are not adjuncts of a healthy lifestyle. They are curcial! And balancing the two major female hormones, estrogen and progesterone, can be the key to physical and mental well-being. In this comprehensive and easy to understand book, Dr. Reiss gives a step-by-step guideline to individualizing hormone balance - different in every woman and different at different times. With each separate hormone (including estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, DHEA, human growth hormone, pregnenolone and melatonin), he lists the signs of deficiency and the signs of excess, explains what forms the hormone comes in, how to take it and where to get it. He further tells why natural hormones are vital and synthetics are dangerous. This book should be considered a most valuable reference manual.

As a female medical doctor I have battled against many colleagues to get this info to my patients and have it help them for over 15 years. I know both personally and professionally how important this issue is. Now, even my HMO patients are finally agreeing to try to manage their health with 'alternative and natural' approaches... with the help of reading books like this. The rewards are plenty from practicing medicine this way and have my patients giving me the "high five" on a daily basis. I love practicing medicine this way for all of my patients. This medicine is no longer only for 'the rich and famous' that I've treated for over 15 years! Kudos to all who continue to expand my patients minds and let them now come to me asking for these types of treatments instead of me having to convince them this stuff really works! DRMARAIO.COM

Recent articles in the Los Angeles Times have pointed out that pollutants discharged and mixed in the Pacific Ocean are so great, even in this diluted state, some male fish are developing eggs. This book and the companion titled "What your Doctor Might Not Tell you About Pre-menopause by Lee guides you on how endocrine pollution is effecting us and what to do about it. My doctor told me ten years ago that all his women patients that turned forty must read this book to be prepared when our bodies start to go through the change into menopause. I am now 51 and I'm back to buy another updated copy as menopause has hit me hard. My current M.D. put me on emergency medication of anti-depressants and I know this book will provide me with the tools to get off of them and get my heath back! This is the book that will teach you how to protect yourself so you don't get breast cancer (now one in 8 women), cysts, fibroids, etc. Anti-depressants do not protect you from this kind of pollution, they only treat the symptoms. Doctors were bombarded from drug companies that wanted to sell their patented fake hormones. Thousands of women died from these drugs and so now many doctors are afraid of any kind of hormone therapy. Natural hormones protect the body, which we need now to counteract estrogen based pollution. You can not afford to do nothing. Four of my family members got estrogen based cancers and none of us had the genes to predispose them for these cancers. Because these natural hormones can't be patented there is no big money to do the double blind studies nor is there anyone beating down doctor's doors to educate them. The doctors that have taken up the cause for natural hormone therapy do not have the high cancer rates in their patients as is found in the general population. Over ten years of experience is proof enough for these M.D.s to go against the norms as pushed by pharmaceutical companies.

The information in this book is invaluable. I have conditions that I never would have related to peri-menopause that thanks to this book I am better informed about what is happening with my body. This book has chapters for women of all ages. If you are coming up on "that age," you really need to get this book.

Natural Hormone Balance for Women is one of the finest books ever written for women living with ovarian failure(menopause). It describes very clearly the benefits of replacing ovarian hormones with bio-identical hormones (exact replica's of what the body naturally produces), and the benefits to the body. Dr. Reiss' passion for creating a true ovarian hormone balance is apparent and he more than adequately justifies every point he makes. His knowledge and respect for appropriate healthcare for women is also clear. Unfortunately, he does not offer any advice on how to extend the functional life of the ovaries, only how to supplement after they have failed.

I stumbled upon this book while researching relief for my menopausal symptoms & what a find! I've since learned that Uzzi Reiss is well known as an expert in this field. This book is chock full of accurate information & useful advice. He is a huge advocate of Natural Hormone Replacement & openly abhors conventional hormone replacement (Premarin, Premphase & Prempro) with rationale that makes perfect sense to the lay-person. Immediately after reading his book 6 months ago I saw my doctor & began Natural Hormone Replacement & it has truly changed my life. 99% of my menopausal symptons are gone & I feel human again!
This book is a gift to women everywhere!

Finally!! After exhausting searches through books and the internet comes a valuable, easy to read book on women's hormones! Every young woman should have the opportunity to be informed of hormones.(Hormone loss starts in our late 20's & early 30's!) We are so programmed to "just deal with" so many female hormonal issues. We are under the guise that we have to stop having periods or have hot flashes before we can benefit from hormones! Oh how wrong! This book makes you feel empowered and SAFE! A priceless education. Every Doctor and woman should read this. I can't wait to get started on Dr. Weiss'recomendations. I now have hope!

Dr. Reiss clearly presents how important the hormones are to health, and how your understanding of them can help. This is a very accessible book, and a must read for anyone who has an interest in health (does that leave anyone out?)

This excellent book is truly a valuable gift for women of all ages. Easy and fascinating to read, the author clearly describes and defines the unique and wonderful (!) glandular system of women and provides priceless information about when and how to replenish hormones, with natural products, without resorting to synthetic pharmaceuticals. (Good grief! Who knew that most estrogen products are made from horse urine!?) Dr. Reiss supplies especially reassuring and useful information about menopause. This book is a keeper!

This book is user-friendly for laypersons, yet sophisticated and detailed enough for healthcare professionals. Dr. Reiss has clarified a confusing, sometimes worrisome subject and gives specific, easy-to-follow information. He is an experienced clinician and focuses on what actually works. I unreservedly recommend this book to any woman of any age to better understand how hormones work and how strongly imbalances can affect health.

Women my age -- and the physicians who serve us -- need this information to make smart decisions about hormones. Until I read this book I never knew that some standard hormone prescriptions have the potential to cause heart problems in women. This book tells me how to use natural hormones, and why, and how to make my physician a partner in achieving hormonal balance. I have never found these practical details in any other book.

This book has not only cleared up my confusion --and fears -- about hormone replacement but has given me the step-by-step guidance and confidence to self-adjust my hormones. I wish this book had been available before. Every doctor who prescribes hormone replacement to patients should read this book...and so should every woman considering taking hormones.

This is an excellent resource for anyone using bioidentical hormones. It helps you know how to dose yourself and how to tell if you are taking too much or not enough. I will always use this book as a reference tool.

I found this book to be highly informative and detailed. Most doctors do not go into this kind of detail or they don't know enough about hormones. My doctor is limited to only the what pharmaceutical companies tell them. I highly recommend this book to any female premenopausal, menopausal or postmenopausal.

Dr. Reiss's book is so helpful for women entering menopause and seaching for answers. His knowledge and empathy is so welcome. The information about loss of desire and how to enhance sexual response is excellent and useful. Since reading this book I have tried estrogen and testosterone cream as well as the nonprescription Viacreme. I highly recommend this book to all women.

This book, this doctor, changed my life for the better. I've purchased 8 copies for my friends to read. It's easy reading. I actually visited this doctor and within two weeks almost all symptoms of menopause disappeared. This is a great alternative to synthetic hormones.

I've read it thoroughly and still refer back to it regularly. It's THE BEST BOOK out there on this subject that really empowers women to have all the information they need. All symptoms of excess of deficiency of certain hormones are clearly explained so that you can determine through simple means (by paying attention to your body and mood) what you need. And you get clear information of what the normal ranges are for certain hormones, so that you can specifically ask your physician what to check. It took me a while to find a way to purchase some of the hormones since i live in Europe and my pharmacist had no clue what i was talking about when i asked her to prepare these hormones. But if you google bio-identical hormones you can easily find what you're looking for. It requires a bit of research and testing but it is beyond worth the effort. This book has changed my life!! I consider it a Godsend and I'm so grateful that Dr. Reiss took the time to write a book on this topic in such detail to give women the tools they need to take matters into their own hands. I completely disagree with the negative reviews on this book. I've never written a review on the store before, but this one motivated me to finally do it. I've had the book for years but finally saw some of the negative reviews and i just don't get it. If you want to feel and look good at any age get this book.
