About ten thousand years ago, when the supply of woolly mammoths was dwindling, our ancestors came up with a new idea called agriculture. Instead of poking at giant animals with pointed sticks, they used the sticks to scratch holes in the ground, which they filled with seeds. The seeds sprouted into grain plants, which provided people with an abundant source of food. Unfortunately, this has turned out to be a bad idea for many of us. Grain contains glutens, which may make people obese and also may lead to chronic pain.
The book “No Grain, No Pain” is not an ordinary diet book. Most diet books emphasize weight loss. Many of these prescribe low-carbohydrate diets. No Grain provides a way to alleviate muscle and joint pain, inflammation, and intestinal problems. It does this by providing a gluten-free diet. Glutens are contained in the usual grains that we know: wheat, barley, and oats, but also in corn and rice.
The first part of the book provides real-life examples of people who were saved or benefited by changing their diets. After that we have lists of what not to eat and what to eat. For example, acceptable foods include artichokes, bamboo shoots, mushrooms, apples, black beans, cashews, to name a few. Things to avoid: grains, dairy products, sugar-laden beverages, and processed foods.
In order to get going, the author provides daily menus. The first day includes boiled eggs, blueberries, and almonds for breakfast, tuna salad, avocado, and apple for lunch, and chicken breast, sweet potato, and broccoli for dinner. There are also recipes. My favorites include the chicken-apple-avocado salad, Dijon salmon fillets, and the taco salad.
No Grain is well written with many examples and explanations. In addition to providing a means to alleviate chronic pain, the diet can also serve as a guide to weight loss when taken with adequate exercise and sleep.

I stumbled unto Pete Osborne's website a few years after being diagnosed with a gluten intolerance. I appreciated the content of the site and knew I would be able to have it as an arsenal for information when I would need it later on.
Years later after being gluten free (occasionaly I must add, but gluten free enough to warrant myself gluten free) I experienced another blow to my digestive system. The gluten free diet wasn't working and I found myself becoming unable to eat many of the foods I used to enjoy, meats, nuts, apples. I was in chronic digestive pain and was considering going on disability from the see-saw fatigue. Then I remembered Pete Osborne's website and his book No Grain, No Pain. I went on youtube and found some of his videos. Having a background in science I enjoyed his video as he explains things on a very molecular level that made a lot of sense to me. I was sold, and bought the book No Grain, No Pain on the store Kindle.
No Grain, No Pain is an amazing book that covers basic nutrition too. So if you have family members suffering from other things than a gluten intolerance, you will find his books and resources eye-opening. Within the book there are recipes, scientific explanation as to why you feel the way you do, good dietary and supplement explanations, the best part is his list of chemical/FDA names for things that contain grains that may be found on the ingredient lists to help you stay away from them during you road to recovery.
The recipes are very tasty and very simple, which is necessary for someone who is struggling from fatigue commonly associated with gluten intolerance or other autoimmune disease associated with inflammation triggered by dietary intake.
MY TESTIMONY:
I've been loosely following the guidelines in his book for about 3 months now. I no longer hunch over in pain after eating a traditional gluten free meal. I am not ravenously hungry all of the time. I have been having longer nights of fuller sleep (as I used to suffer from insomnia a lot). I have been losing weight (I never use a scale so I can't tell you how much I've lost but my clothes that were tight fitting and now I have about 2 inch slack room in all of them and I'm not looking flabby even though I don't exercise... this is the most muscle tone I've seen on me even when I did exercise a lot more being on the traditional gluten free diet). My coworkers are noticing the weight loss and are now asking me about going gluten free and grain free even though they know I've been doing this for the past 6 years. I still suffer from memory fog, but not as bad, and that's because I've been loosely following Peter Osborne's plan. There are different transition phases on the No Grain, No Pain plan and I'm just on phase one. I can tell you, buying this book has been the cheapest life saver for me yet. Many of my other aches and pains were coming from my diet that I would have never made the connection for if I never followed some of the items he suggests to eliminate ie I knew if I would always drink a certain soda I would feel worse than normal, but that soda had 1) corn syrup (grain) and 2) food coloring (which has a corn/grain based ingredient). So if you have a child with ADD or ADHD, the way Dr. Osborne presents how these processed chemicals/ingredients influence their behavior and attention span will be an eye-opener.
DISCLAIMER: This review was written in exchange for a discount. However, what I've stated in this review is totally accurate and true of my experience in reading the book and listening to Dr. Osborne's videos. I do hope that the rest of the medical community becomes up-to-date with the knowledge Dr. Osborne is sharing in this book and also to all the other research that is taking place on gluten intolerance in highly respected research journals. Unfortunately, I know that many community physicians don't continue their education in their respective fields and this is when you have to place your health in your own hands.

I found this book extremely helpful in giving me evidence of why I should go grain free. I've been grain free for a month and have noticed a decrease in my muscle pain. I look forward to further healing. I'm very happy that I got this book as I can suggest the grain free diet to family and friends now.

Outstanding book loaded with research and clinical anecdotes that dispels many of the common misconceptions about the gluten sensitivity spectrum. The information on genetics is especially helpful for anyone struggling with symptoms in the absence of positive antibody tests lab tests. I recommend this book for practitioners and patients alike.

This book is invaluable. Dr Osborne does a great job of explaining why gluten and grain in general are not good for the digestive system. I know that I am on a journey to heal myself and regain the overal health and energy I had lost.

This is a well-written, well-organized book with everything needed to turn poor health into vibrant, radiant health with the best life-style choices. I find it exciting to learn what I can choose to eat and do to end pain and inflammation and become stronger and healthier, so it is no problem to me to stop eating/doing what it is that leads to painful arthritis and just annoying little issues that indicate my body is not functioning optimally. Thanks millions to Dr. Osborne for this definitive guide with all its resources, including recipes and meal plans to make choices easy and delicious. I recommend it to everyone I know, as most people are overweight and sick with one or more health issues. He covers all these issues thoroughly and in-depth. Buy it, read it and USE IT!

I am very impressed by Dr. Osborne medical knowledge of not only the GI system, but his knowledge of the human body on a chemical and molecular level. I am almost finished reading this book and I am slowly starting the program. I have already made changes to my diet. I will not say this is going to be easy. It will not be, but the relief from the pain will be worth it!. He also has real stories of people who have had successful outcomes. I feel that even if you do not have the autoimmune disorders listed in the book, everyone can benefit from making lifestyle changes suggested in this book.
Thank you!!! (the only reason I did not give it a five is because I have not completed the program)

OMG... So if you are reading this review, you are probably looking for some information on better health. GET THIS BOOK NOW. Peter wrote a very detailed book on how grains affect ALL of us in some way. Most of us do not even realize the side effects of grain on our health. And this is not just opinion based. Probably a third of this book is dedicated to details of the source material he used to learn and write this book. If you are suffering from ANY kind of skin disorder, AUTOIMMUNE disease (especially this one), gastro-intestinal distress or other chronic ailments... this book is a MUST read for you.

Well written, easy to understand and to see the big picture and how details fit together as best known at this time. My naturopathic doctor identified my gluten intolerance some years ago and we have together increased my health. Now at 75, I know I have benefited greatly from her keeping up with developments on this subject. Osborne has done a great job. Highly recommended!

Dr. Osborne has delivered a wonderful and informative product to the world in "No Grain, No Pain". This is an informative book that can save modern people lots of pain and suffering. Autoimmunity is the number one cause of morbidity and mortality in the United States (if including Heart Disease and Cancer) so this book could potentially save millions of lives and pain and suffering as well.

Dr Osborne continues to write books that enlighten the readers and offers a wealth of knowledge on the complex subject of glutens and I, personally, have experienced so much benefit from this knowledge because I now know how to avoid glutens in my diet and eat the right foods without worry. The recipes are great and offer variety, and I know those foods will be safe for me. I'm glad to have "No Grain, No Pain" in my library and I will recommend it to my friends so they can benefit from this information as well. Thank you Dr Osborne! Amelia B

Very resourceful and very well written with wonderful recipes. And so exciting Dr. Osborne is getting the word out there. His simplistic, crystal clear explanation as to why gluten is not healthy for people makes my life so much easier when I try to explain to family and friends. I just quote him and tell them to buy the book....get educated!! Brings me hope that conventional medicine will be transitioning over to functional medicine in the very near future. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU Dr. Osborne!
