An interesting look at what might happen if you die and it wasn't really your time. Lily finds herself in just such a situation; with an unusual proposal to get a second chance at life. She also finds herself with an outrageous guardian angel and is sent on a journey to hell. Enjoy!

This book had a great main character with really interesting and involving side characters. It was also very fast paced. I couldn't put it down until I was done because I wanted to see what would happen.

I hope this series continues as I would love to see the characters more fully fleshed out and I want to see what kind of trouble they get in to next. I was extremely happy with this purchase.

The story is okay. Hell is not as Dante portrayed it and I am kind of disappointed that demons cannot be killed without consequences. Seems like this writer believes in relative morality. So that's annoying. Overall if you dig afterlife fiction I guess you can give this a go. I would not read any follow up books to this series.

I did not like the foul language or the characters. Actually the book initial description was very misleading. I usually like a little spooky or a little Paranormal. This book was a lot. Of horrible. This author is not for me at all.

This book entertained me, but I found myself disappointed at the end. I had hoped for more romance. It really bothered me that tallis accent had to be spelled out....So thick....it was hard to read. I did however LOVE Bill! His potty mouth was hilarious..and he really cared about Lily which made him likable. I will read the next book in this series when it comes out, and hopefully it will be better.

I stumbled upon H.P. Mallory's Jolie series several months back...and have been happily devouring every single book not only in that series, but her very entertaining Dulcie series ever since. I was very excited to see that she'd started a new series and I was not disappointed. Lily Harper is a character I want to get to know better. These books are very entertaining. Can't wait for the second book.

H.P. Mallory is an excellent writer and as always her talent shines brightly with this new series.
Lily Harper cracks me up with her self help quotes and Bill is so "sophomoric" with his humor that he keeps me laughing. Tallis is so cool. I love his Scottish accent. I am a big fan of Diana Gabaldon so I'm used to reading "Scottish". I'm looking forward to more about Tallis Black. Yum.

UGH!! I normally really love HP's books, but this one is just awful. I couldnt even read it all the way through. I can understand that HP Mallory wanted the dialog to be accurate with someone as old as Tallis, but trying to read and understand what he is saying ruined the book for me. For me, it killed the flow of the book. I will not be buying the next book in this series.

Wonder why driving and texting is not a good idea? What happens when your guardian angel is not on the job? Ever wanted a new life with a new body? These and other questions answered in this entertaining story of life in the afterlife! ;-)

At first I was having trouble getting into this book. I was to used to the other characters of the other series by H.P. Mallory. It took me a few chapters to really start to like Lily. Bill is hilarious. I really liked how the story was evolving. The characters grow on you add the book goes on. The ending leaves you wanting more.

imagine dying a young unattractive virgin and then agreeing to go into hell to retrieve souls. One of the perks is now
you get to look like however you wish and get an Angel and a Demon to help you out. Very interesting and as funny as
it is scary. I look forward to reading the rest of the series.

Good premise & plot. Excellent characters. Though, the storyline seems rather familiar... This is a book that leaves a bit of a cliffhanger. Be forewarned, you'll feel a little bit of frustration when the story doesn't continue. I'm impatiently awaiting the books. Can't wait to get my greedy little paws on them!

O.K. Series sometimes annoy me. One of the characters definitely annoyed me, but otherwise a fair look into the netherworld and a loose look into Dante's Inferno - a fantasy nonetheless, so keep that in mind so it will be a fun read. Do I want to go forward with the rest of the series...nah.

I have read her other two series and loved them. I highly recommend this book. It kept me laughing all along. I have to say that the character of Bill is described perfectly. We all know someone like him in our lives so it was easy to picture him and his vocabulary plus his play on words is infectious. I was able to read this in a few hours and I cant wait for the next book in this series.I normally don't type reviews but in this case this book was worth it.

Luckily I stumbled on HP Mallory's other series after most of the books have been written so I could just pick up the next and keep reading. Much to the dismay of my husband who would be left to fend for himself for days on end. It says a lot about my interest in her books that I could block out things like sleeping and eating. Luckily for my husband, not so lucky for me, Better Off Dead is just the first book of the series. Better off Dead is a great fun read. I enjoyed the characters and can't wait for the next book. Following them on facebook, especially Bill, makes it even that much more fun.

This was so surprisingly amazing. I subscribe to Pixel of Ink, and this was one of the free books. I read it in one night, and HAD to buy the second book immediately, I actually paid for it! It's such an original idea, and writing style. I felt like this author lived with me and my roommate, studying us for this series. Just the language alone. I absolutely loved it. I am fiending for the 3rd installment. Come on H.P. Mallory! I'm addicted!!

I laughed so much reading this book. Bill, a Guardian Angel, has the language of a sailor. Lilly, who dies before her time is paired up with Bill to learn how to survive in the here after. I really enjoyed this book. Not for young readers due to the language.

Easy read, but enough detail to make the characters become real for you. Story line is definitely intriguing as well as unique. Love the chemistry between the three main characters, nothing seems forced or unrealistic, the quips ,nicknames and one liners are engaging and I may even use a few myself! Can't wait to read the next!

The premise of this book was so interesting that I had to buy it and read it, even though I am not much into supernatural romance. But this book was so much fun and so different that I also read Book 2, and am eagerly awaiting Book 3.

H.p. Mallory never fails to thrill and amaze. This new series is a big change from her usual writing and will have it's own following. We are still dealing with the paranormal and supernatural, but in a totally different vein. I hope all of you will give it a try and enjoy it as much as I didn.

What an imagination this author has! This one's so different and funny, that I couldn't believe it. It was hysterical and enjoyable. A very different type of story and filled with fun scenes. I loved it!

even though the story was slow starting I enjoyed the story. have never read a book with a twist like this one has. I really liked the story line but had an issue with the main character choosing a new "body" for herself. but all in all....Great book!

Honestly, I couldn't even get through it, but after 100 pages, if it hasn't picked up, it probably won't. The female protagonist doesn't seem to have any redeeming qualities, the guardian angel is annoyingly obnoxious and the sword maker is brooding... I didn't read into the book enough to see if he gets any better.

I loved Dante's Inferno during my English lit classes in school and seeing the cute mix with HP's storyline is fun. HP has become one of my favorite authors and she never disappoints. The characters are great. Can't wait to see what happens to Lily, Tallis, and Bill next.

This woman is hilarious! I loved her characters. It's amazing how H.P. can have you scared, laughing, and love struck all at the same time. Her style of writing is a breath of fresh air. Can't wait to read more by H.P. Mallory.

I felt like the Scottish accent was to strong. Making it very hard to read smoothly. My husband and i read at night to eachother, he gave up by the 3 chapter. :( We have read both other series by Hp Mallory and we so excited to start yet another masterpiece... but the book fell short. The plot started out intreaging enough. Funny wity and unique, specially the drunken Angel. Then when "conan" joined in the book became confusing. The description of how he appears is ugly and not handsome... her descriptions verses the other books I felt were vague. I never felt as if I were in the story ir even a part of it. I already support H.P. and will probably buy the second one just for occasional waiting room book. But feel she could do so much better.

Loved this book ! It was a little slow to start, but once I got into it I loved it! The development of the characters was unique, Angel Bill was so funny! I could see me having a guardian angel like him! It was a funny & light read! H.P. Mallory did it again!

This book started out sounding a lot like Beetle Juice but I kept reading and fell instantly in love. It had fantastic humor, great adventure and a sexy hero wearing a kilt...what more could a girl ask for. Five stars all the way.

The story line was good. I enjoyed the characters. This was a bit different approach to the usual story. I didn't like the use of profanity coming from the angel, Bill. Not cool. Way out of line. The rest of the story was good.

Lilly should have never texted while driving. MIA guardian Angel and you end up in a mess. And your choices narrow down to working for Afterlife gathering wayward souls. Long and drawn out. Did not liked the foul mouth Angel.

First there was Rand and Sinjin, then Knightly and Quill, now HP gives us Tallis and... Bill. I LOVE Bill. This story has everything a urban fantasy reader wants: mystery, weird creatures, sexual tension (only from the virgin Lily though, but I have hope!) Death, all bundled up in a hilariously funny package.

Once again, HP Mallory creates a fantasy world with lovable characters and tension to keep your eyes glued to the book. I would have given it a "five" if it wasn't so short. One tenth of the book was a sample of her other series.

H.P. Mallory writes the best series. Love this book about Lily, Talis and Bill the Angel. it was humorous, suspenseful, and exciting. I'm hoping Lily and Tallis get together, he sounds hoot. highly recommend.

Mix fae immortals with religion and classic literature, and move it to the modern day. We ride along with the protagonist and learn together what happens in the afterlife. Deities and demons and damsels and degenerates.
