It was interesting what Matheny said about youth league sports. Although I never stayed in a sport more than one year (until cross country and track in high school), it gave me a different look on how youth sports are managed today.

The right ides about coaching and baseball. We need more of his thinking and less talking about money. announcers should be talking more and more about the game they are reporting and less about other things. Baseball needs to more like Coach Matheny Manifesto. Thank you for writing your book.

I really enjoyed this book. Particularly things about coaching young athletes. Mike does a good job of looking into the life of a pro ball player. Recommend to all baseball coaches as well as parents of young players.

As a Cardinals fan, this helped me understand some of the game moves he makes that I had always questioned. He provides a limited look inside his head, why he makes the decisions he makes, etc. You get enough of his life growing up and through his playing career to understand why he manages like he does. Overall, a very good book that I enjoyed.

This is a great interesting faith based read authored by a guy who knows the game, played the game at the highest of levels and was a tough as nails catcher. If you love baseball, coach or play the game this book is an enlightening read.

Love it. Would recommend this book to any parent of a sports kid, any coach of youth teams and the players themselves. I have bought this book for our AAU coaches and have recommended it to some of the parents on our team. I wish more coaches would adopt this philosophy and change the focus from winning the game to developing winning kids.

Every parent and EVERY coach should read this no matter how great of a coach they think they are. Everyone can always learn and improve their approach. As a mom and not a player or strong lover of the sport, I couldn't put it down and was intrigued by it.

Such an inspiring story about what's important in life and what truly matters in the development of our kids today. Kids are the future and products of society. We should never forget that and bring the game into perspective when arguing over balls and strikes.

Excellent book and timely for an issue that is destroying youth sports. Between parents and transactional coaches (see Coaching from the Inside Out), kids are having the joy of playing systematically ripped away from them.

If you care anything about young people ... if you care anything about competing and doing it the right way ... This road map to sanity should be a must-read for parents -- not just of ballplayer -- but of ALL athletes.
