This finishes the story from the last book. It is not as much fun as the early books, but brings a large part of the current story plot to a close. Not too much to add since I don't want to spoil anything. Only real negative was the last half-page. Nuttall was not content to end this story, he had to throw in a last-second cliff-hanger at the end. I find these just annoying - one of the reasons I like Nuttall's books is he usually (used to be?) good at ending a story properly. This is why I gave him 3 stars instead of 4.

Trust your readers Chris, we don't need an annoying teaser to buy your next books; just give us what made you popular in the first place.

Emily has gone through so much over the years, but this was the most mundane event of all. Hardly any magic is used whatsoever. If I wanted a courtroom drama, there are plenty of series I could choose to read instead. This whole book could have been summarized in a few chapters at the end of the last book. Hopefully now that she is out of school she can learn more unique magic and go at her fast pace with Earthly concepts instead of the schools constant pressure to slow down.

School is a fantastical place where learning and diligence are honored unconstitutionally. People explore the endless possibilities explained by those who came before. When a person is in a role that is unable to guarantee they will honor that role. When people define their lives by their roles they lose perspective and when people define themselves by their tasks they can lose their way.

This book explored just how closely how Emily defines her person was influenced by her role and her task. She appears to come very close to losing her way only to be saved by her friends. Everyone needs help sometimes.
Desperate Fire (Angel in the Whirlwind Book 4) :: Falcone Strike (Angel in the Whirlwind Book 2) :: The Sergeant's Apprentice (Schooled in Magic Book 11) :: The Nelson Touch (Ark Royal Book 2) :: Wedding Hells (Schooled in Magic Book 8)

I am addicted to this series. This
Book is a decent addition to the series , it seems to be building towards something interesting.
I'm a little miffed at the author ATM.
I got to caught up in another
Story he wrote... and you know how it is when a character you like gets killed ...anyways ...I recommend this
Whole
Series.

Still good, but the constant fretting about Frieda got old, as did the pressure applied from her added responsibilities. The series is at its best when Emily is applying her knowledge of Earth science to help with problems, and that has dropped off sharply.
Don't get me wrong though; I'll still buy the next book!

This book finished what was called book 13. The two should have been combined into a single book. I will keep reading the series, but the Author need to write complete books that are appropriate length.

These books are all interesting in their own ways and I thoroughly enjoyed each of the 14. Graduation day was a particular treat as I was very keen to see how Chris was going to square the circle of pulling all the threads together. He handled it wonderfully. Now we fans just have to wait while he writes more books. Hope he hurries because I am already 70 and can't afford to wait too long for the final resolution.
