As always, I love Julia Quinn. She gives you amazing characters you can't forget. I've always liked Iris in the other Smythe-Smith series and this made me like her even more. The plot line goes along a different path then the normal courting that we see in her books and there's a little more mystery with this just as the title suggests.

***Spoilers are included in this review***

This is the fourth installment in Julia Quinn's Smythe-Smith series and I was really anticipating this story because I loved all the previous books in the series. I have always been a huge JQ fan since I read The Duke and I way back when but I was just not a huge fan of this story line. I guess I wanted to be but this one did not do it for me.
This all starts out at one of the notorious Smythe-Smith Musicales where Sir Richard is attending with a friend because he is in the market for a wife believe it or not! I am sure all of London's mommas where excited about that one if only they knew! Richard is instantly taken with Iris and realizes she will fit in perfectly with his plans to find a bride fast. Richard is holding some secrets that are expediting his need to find a wife and fast. So how else do we go about this but with a scandal! With one little kiss Iris finds herself married to husband she was starting to fall for anyway but now is quite upset with the way it all unfolded.
Richard brings Iris back to his home and has some time before his two sisters return to try to woo Iris into being more accepting of his secret when he decides to tell her about it. However during all this time Iris is starting to wonder why her husband has been refusing to sleep with her (I was also starting to wonder because he OBVIOUSLY wants to). Then on top of all this Richard's sisters return and that's when Richard's secrets begin to be unraveled!
I know I rated this book 3 stars and I actually did enjoy the read because it did have all of JQ's favorite elements including her amazing wit! The draw back for me was the simple fact that his secrets could have been dealt with a lot earlier in this story and I would have liked to have seen a longer courtship between Richard and Iris. I guess I am more of a glutton for the thrill of the chase especially in Regency England when matchmaking Momma's are the thrill of the day and gossip spreads faster then you can blink. It is a JQ book and therefore worth the read for me but it was just not my favorite of hers. I am looking forward to her next book in March where we can travel back to the lives of Bridgerton's! Happy reading y'all!

I have been reading Julia Quinn's books for several years and even went to see her at a book talk. Her books are so well written with intelligence, humor, such wonderful character development, and romance. Her characters seem so realistic and thought out. When I saw her in person, she came across as a person I would like as a friend because she was so personable, friendly, chatty, and fun. I enjoyed this book because of the "secret" aspect, even though I guessed what it might be before the reveal. I think this one was one of her better books.

I always liked the Smythe-Smith series and Iris was one of my favorite characters. She is very witty and lacks the perfection we normally see with other heroines! I guess that's why I always liked her because she wasn't perfect, merely normal. The book was great with minor roles from other Quinn novels. The best part is I was truly intrigued as I couldn't figure out the climax without reading more! Great book now I can't wait to read all about Winston and Marie-Claire as they find their own loves and lives.

So, I absolutely loved the first 3 in this series, and was so excited for the long awaited 4th. I hate this book. Even the few funny, quirky moments weren't enough to save it. I'm so disappointed that I had waited all this time for this nonsense. I will save you the trouble, spoiler alert!

Richard needs to marry someone quick because his sister is knocked up and he tricks poor Iris into doing it by kissing her in front of her Aunt, forcing her to marry him. The whole time he woos her and tricks her into falling in love with him by playing head games with her, and emotionally destroying her on a constant roller coaster, only to find out about this mess. I'm so bummed out. I was so excited. She'll get no more purchases from me.

Loved trying to guess Richard s secret........the book kept me up all night.....I liked hearing about the cousins from the older books and had to laugh when iris read from Sarah Gorelys book....... Julia keeps you laughing keeps you interested. The only thing I disliked is that the series came to an end. Loved all her books and have re-read most of them....

This book was an enjoyable read. It kept you guessing for the majority of the book what Sir Richard's secret could be. Iris sort of went a little crazy at the height of the plot, but she was emotionally pushed past the brink with all the tempers flaring. So, it was understandable. I always love this author's books and highly recommend them to others.

This book was awesome!! Iris was a hoot! I really liked her. Richard was an idiot but a good one!he loved his sister! But as usual the last to know how to handle anything. He needed a smart woman to take charge and straighten out the mess his sister made. But everything turned out in the end and everybody happy. Now I can't wait for Marie-Claire's story. Julia Quinn never disappoints!!

I loved this book. The Smythe-Smith family is always full of surprises. The plot kept me guessing as to what secret Sir Richard was keeping. There were parts of the book that had me laughing and parts that made me sad for Iris. I would recommend this book and any other written by Julia Quinn, she writes great books.

I love Julia Quinn and this was another good story from her. But I hate to say this wasn't one of my favorites! My favorite book of all time continues to be the Viscount Who Loved Me. The Secrets of Sir Richard Kenworthy was a good solid read, but it didn't have me roaring with laughter or on the edge of my seat like most of her books. The best thing about Quinn is how she writes. I always fly through her books because there is always something to love. So even though, not one of my all time favorites, its a book I will go back to for sure because of my loyalty to the author.

Another lovely story from Julia Quinn. The Smyth-Smith family continue to amuse with their antics. I loved Iris and her no nonsense attitude, stronger with more depth than her appearance suggested, and poor Richard trying to do the right thing and making a total mess of it. A classic romance and enjoyable read.

I love the Smythe-Smith stories and this one stays true to form. Iris was never my favorite character but getting to know her in this delightful read has changed that. Now it's quite a toss up between her and Honoria, I'll have to read both stories again before deciding.

As always Julia Quinn is a genius!! I honestly didn't know what the big secret was until Richard's sister Fleur got out of the carriage and her younger sister said she had puked twice. I absolutely loved it??

This is another witty laugh out loud novel from Julia Quinn. The dialogue is well written as always and the love story is cute. Yes, Richard is an ass about the secret but I found it fairly realistic in terms of stupid male plans. And I found Iris's response to him made sense. She didn't just roll over and agree with the plan nor did she run away - 2 common plot devices. She stayed and worked with it and came up with a better solution. I felt that Quinn did a good job showing Richard's inner turmoil which makes him more likable. My only problem is that it was not very steamy. I get why but that is one of the fun parts of romance. Ignore reviews that trash the hero. He might be trying to follow some "evil" plan but in reality he is too nice to pull it off. That doesn't mean he isn't an ass at times but their story is more about what happens when ones plans go awry.
